OOC: Charizard can keep using those Solar Powarz of his

"Ugh, come on guys, we've got idiots to save." I muttered to my elite Pokemon team under my breath.

When the call had gone out for volunteer trainers to search the newly discovered caves, I had been far to pre-occupied defending my gym on a daily basis to take part. However there had been enough interest from others that at the time, I had thought there would be at least some trainers who weren't completely terrible. As it turned out, I was wrong, and not a single one had been heard from again.

And so the call went out for the more experienced, elite trainers to take up the role, and not only search the caves, but also to search for the dumbarses that some official body had deemed not-shit enough to go in the first place. And so here I was, accompanied by four of my best Pokemon, after I had been asked to volunteer, by which I of course mean conscripted, to take part.

I began to walk forward into the caverns, and it soon became obvious that I wasnt going to be able to see shit without some light.

"Charizard, out you come. Light this place up a bit would you?"

After a blinding flash of red light, the flames from Charizard's tail danced and flickered against the walls. It gave enough light to see shadows and murky outlines, but it was hardly enough to search by. This seemed like a good time to try out a new technique. After my last battle with a Ghost type trainer, who had managed to plunge the whole arena in darkness, I had developed some cool tricks.

"Charizard, let's try that Sun Sphere. That should work pretty well in here..."

Charizard brought its clawed hands together, focusing the power of his Sunny Day technique into a small ball. It seemed to be working, as he passed the radiant ball of light over to me. It was hot, but no so much as to burn the skin. I had no idea how long it would last though.

"Well then... Guess we should get going." Charizard grunted in reply, walking alongside me as we ventured into the caves.

"Oh look, a Geodude 2.0" I sighed with disdain. So many of these recently discovered Pokemon seemed like long lost cousins of the ones back at home in Kanto. It was almost like the Poke-god of creation had just run out of useful ideas, just making progressively worse creatures after the first 150 or so.

Of course the caves would be full of rock types that in general wouldn't be too bothered with my Pokemon's fire attacks. Just my luck. Still, years of training had resulted in Charizard possessing an arsenal of over 90 moves, so it wasn't exactly like I was out of options.

"Charizard, use Brick Break. Just smash it with your tail and we'll follow whichever direction it goes flying in."

I saw the shadow of another Pokemon up ahead and held the ball of light up high. "Huh, a Staravia. What the hell is a bird doing in a cave like this, particularly this far away from Sinnoh? It's almost like I'm in some sort of badly written story..."

Charizard roared at the bird, startling it as wisps of smoke shot out of his nostrils with a snort. The bird turned and glared at us, deciding not to run away. Brave, but stupid.

When it doubt, kill it with fire. "Charizard, Flamethrower! The bigger the better. Guess we'll keep heading north after that."

The bird appeared tougher than I originally thought! But it was not to worry. I had plenty of other moves at the ready, and birds were generally shithouse at dealing with Electric techniques. Charizard had picked up the Thunderpunch technique from a TM many years ago, and it was one that I used often in deling with the water-types that so often frequented my battles.
"Alright Charizard, hit that bird that appears tougher than I originally thought with a Thunderpunch! Right in the chest, those feathers should conduct it nicely. Then we'll try moving North again."

The bird finally flew off, and I noticed something lying on the ground. I pointed at it, and Charizard swung his tail, flicking it up to me.

"....Candy Corn? Why would a Staravia have Candy Corn?" I asked aloud to no-one. Charizard snorted and shrugged. He seemed as bored as I was with this tedious rescue.

"Alright, lets move on to the north. It doesn't look like there's anything here." The walls were shiny faintly in the flickering light from Charizard's tail flame. They must be made of some sort of crystal, possibly fallen from the Outer Heaven. It was helping light the way. This was beginning to look more promising...

It looked like a dead end. I walked around studying the chamber. There didn't appear to be any way to go further. I cursed under my breath. Stupid bird with its stupid candy corn leading me down here. Stupid mission to find stupid people who were stupid.
Charizard snorted in frustration, waiting for me to hurry up and stop looking at the walls. "Looks like there's nowhere to go this way. Better turn around Charizard."
Charizard snorted again and turned around. Whoever was writing the story of my life seemed to have wasted enough time looking at a dead end cavern, and I followed Charizard back up the way we came.

I continued trudging back up the path I came from, towards the South. Dead ends were boring. Charizard followed along, equally annoyed by the tedious ordeal. Time was running out though, those lost people had to be found soon.

"Charizard, you might as well heal up while we've got time. Roost, there's nothing here." I sat down and waited. Charizard hadn't been hurt much dealing with the low-level Pokemon around here, and it didn't take long. Walking back into the original cavern, it widened and the light began to return. I didn't know which path I'd be taking next, but I could only hope it would be better than this one.

"Alright Charizard, I don't even remember what we did before, but I can't help but get the feeling heading North was a total waste of time. Not that any other direction wont be, but LETS GO EAST!"

Charizard roared and shot a small flame down the eastern path to light the way, and hopefully scare off any lingering Pokemon pests. I followed him down the passage way, wondering how long it would be before I remembered to keep looking for the missing people next time.
