(OOC: You can ask me questions through VM or AIM if you'd like, and remember you can attempt an escape if you don't want to battle something. I advise catching at least one Pokemon, though. This first post will not have a battle in it so I can gauge your roleplaying skill and act accordingly. Remember, the quality of your posts is what matters, not length, although very few short posts are high quality.)

The Ranger smiles at you as the machine beeps twice to indicate your Octillery is in perfect health. You're not sure why they needed to check this, but you're relieved to be ushered out of the medical tent. The expanse of Meteor Valley lays in a jagged edge in front of you. Multiple paths lead down into the darkness. A small camera can be seen hiding in a bush, and you remember that the camera system is how you will be tracked during the contest. It's time to decide where you will go: will you make a beeline for the bottom of the canyon, or do you think that the rarer Pokemon hide in the cave systems around the edge?

Sharcus Creek, with his ever-reliable Octillery, had just entered the Easter Capture Contest in the National Park, choosing Meteor Valley as their location. They were greeted by a cool breeze upon their arrival, and numerous paths trailed downwards from the jagged edge before them.

“Oh boy, this place takes me back,” said Sharcus, his hand brushing over his spiky, brilliant blue hair, “reminds you of the fiasco back at Meteor Falls, doesn’t it, Pacifica?”

“Octang—Octa~” replied the red cephalopod beside the Aqua Grunt dreamily.

Sharcus patted Pacifica on its head as though the octopus were some many-legged pet. Pacifica seemed to like this, and “purred” accordingly.

“The map I saw back at the medical tent said there’s a large pond north of here, and I think that’s where the rare Pokémon will be, so we best go down one of these trails.”

The Octillery agreed with its trainer, and the pair began their descent towards the depths of Meteor Valley. Sharcus began humming the tune of Castform’s Blues, as his partner Pokémon emitted a small fire from the tip of its snout by using a weak Fire Blast, so as to provide light while they went deeper towards the Valley.

“I wonder what Pokémon we’ll meet first?”

The idea to go to the pond is a sound one. All living things need water, Pokemon included, and especially in the strangely dry surroundings of Meteor Valley. The water source is small, perhaps the size of a small room. A lone tree with sparse foilage is present. You hear a screech and look around before realising that the sparse foilage is actually a Pokemon!

The trip downwards did not present much trouble for the Aqua Grunt and his Octillery, as the two made their way to the pond with relative ease. The water, as Sharcus saw, looked as though it was molten opal—the pond must be reflecting light from some an unseen source. It was a very odd, mysterious sight, which seemed to fit just right with the rest of Meteor Valley, as Sharcus thought.

Pacifica was still maintaining a small fire from the tip of its snout, so that the Water Pokémon resembled a great, tentacled, blowtorch. It provided minimal illumination, for Sharcus and his Octillery were now at the bottom of the two hills margining Meteor Valley on either end, and here light was scarce.

Sharcus then noticed a single, curious looking tree some meters away from where they were presently. The Aqua Grunt didn’t know why, but something compelled him to investigate this peculiar plant. Pacifica followed as Sharcus approached the tree.

    “Mandiii!”
    screeched the tree.

But then Sharcus remembered that trees couldn’t screech—the odd mass he had mistaken for a tree emerged from the shadows, spread its dark wings as though it were some Angel of Death, and swooped down, landing viciously in front of him.

The Mandibuzz screeched again, and this time Sharcus saw the Bone Vulture Pokémon’s geierian features more clearly—it had a pink face, feathers of black and brown, and possessed a rather hungry look in its eyes. Two more things Sharcus noticed was that the Mandibuzz had a great ruff so that she looked like some forbidding queen, though the effect was ruined with the skirt of bone the Dark Pokémon also had, which gave it a primitive look.

“Look at that Pacifica, it’s a Mandibuzz!” said Sharcus animatedly. “She looks like she’s out for our blood, or maybe that’s just her natural look—either way I’m not stopping to battle this oversized cluster of feathers, so it’s a good thing those Rangers threw in a Poké doll we can use to escape.”

    “Octang, Octaa~”

Sharcus produced a small doll that looked like a green, baby Rhydon, and threw it unceremoniously to the Mandibuzz as though it was a piece of meat.

“Let’s walk the other way, Pacifica. Hopefully there’ll be more interesting Pokémon elsewhere…”

The Mandibuzz swoops down and begins pecking at the PokeDoll. Its lack of attention for you seems to be permission for you to leave. You continue down a path leading away from the pond and you see a cave in the distance. Before you can reach it, though, a Pokemon levitates out onto the path from behind a rock. It challenges you with a metallic cry, and you doubt very much that getting away from this one will be as easy.
