(OOC: You can ask me questions through VM or AIM if you'd like, and remember you can attempt an escape if you don't want to battle something. I advise catching at least one Pokemon, though. This first post will not have a battle in it so I can gauge your roleplaying skill and act accordingly. Remember, the quality of your posts is what matters, not length, although very few short posts are high quality.)

Your Ninetales looks around curiously as you are ushered into the Botanical Gardens. Your starting area has a few picnic tables, relics from an age gone by, and a couple of barely functioning vending machines. There are two very noticeable white signs, pointing in opposite directions. One shows the way to the flower beds, and the other leads to the greenhouses. Which way do you feel like investigating?

"Well, here we are, Helios," Arcus said, nonchalantly, while stroking the Ninetales' back to calm him down, "The National Park... it's fascinating. let's see... we can go to the flower beds or the greenhouses. I can't imagine there'll be as many Pokémon in the greenhouses, and I'm sure your fire attacks will be able to deal with the grass Pokémon that are no doubt around here." He paused for a moment to adjust his hair, which was in his face. "Well then, let's go." He began walking along the path to the flower beds with Ninetales in tow.

Your Ninetales enjoys the walk towards the flowerbeds, but you hear a buzzing sound. The sound becomes louder until you see a bright yellow bee Pokemon emerge from within a flowerbed. It doesn't look very happy to see you.

Arcus was ecstatic upon seeing his first Pokemon on this island.

"Ah, the first volunteer to feel our power!" Arcus said, "Okay, Helios, we're going to try to weaken it, so we shouldn't go all out this time, and we'll need to incapacitate it immediately to conserve your energy for any future encounters, so, quickly, use your Confuse Ray before it gets a chance to attack!"

Helios heard Arcus' command and dashed forward, eyes glowing with brilliant red light, and purple energy arcing from Helios' tails towards the Combee. Ninetails tried to really pick up the pace for the attack, since he would need to strike first.

The mysterious light of your Ninetales' Confuse Ray successfully mystifies the Combee, but the little Bug-type seems to retain some control over itself. It begins to buzz loudly and its rapidly-moving wings whip up a frenzy of moving air. The gusts strike your Ninetales and push it backwards a little bit, but thankfully the Fire-type seems to have taken no major damage.

Arcus grimaced at the shock of the Combee's attack, but knew that they had to continue fighting. They would need to do some damage, and soon.

"Helios, I know you can do this!" Arcus commanded, "Use Ember, but make sure to be careful not to damage it too much! And try to dodge its attacks, if you can. "

The Ninetales shot some burning projectiles out of its mouth at the Combee, and simultaneously prepared for evasive maneuvers by getting into a suitable stance for dodging.

The Combee brings up another gust of wind, but this one isn't meant to be used offensively. Instead, flower petals begin to dance around the battlefield. Your Ninetales is way too entranced to even consider dodging, but it does manage to spit a few fireballs in the Bug-type's direction. A few of them explode against the flower petals, but most of them strike the Combee successfully.
