OOC: So you're staying with your new list and not the Drilbur one?

One of the rarer places to explore among all the other trainers in this Easter Capture Contest, you happily entered the area with your Houndoom. Without much delay and sightseeing, you are quickly ushered into the volcano named Mt. Deckbi right away.

As you make your way through the highly uneven path in the mountains, the heat proved to be most distracting as you sweat constantly due to the volcano pool that was right beside you. You did not have much of a choice as there was only one path available to you now - a cramped path with many small rocks and boulders that lead you forward, around the bubbling hot volcano pool.

"Well, here we are Shadow! We are finally in a place you like and can enjoy." I said, patting my partner and most loyal Pokemon on his head. Today him and I decided to join the capture contest in order to obtain new and rare Pokemon. We decided this was the best place to be because, one we both sort of knew this area pretty well, and two with the sun shining down strong, his Fire powers would hopefully be enhanced greatly. We were going to catch whatever rare Pokemon came our way, so long as we were interested in it that is. Stuff like Charizard or Tyranitar we weren't too incredibly interested in. No, we wanted rare stuff like Larvesta, Onix, or Litwick. Hell, even not so rare Pokemon like Sandile, Gliar, or Rhyhorn would be cool. I wasn't going to be completely satisfied until we captured one of those Pokemon, or until we won this event. I knew Shadow and I could win this, especially with nub entrees like Ataro!

As we entered Deckbi, we began strangely drawn towards the volcano. I wasn't totally sure why we were going there, but something was making us want to go there. As we closed into the volcano, I noticed a path that led into it. I wasn't too keen on going in, but I knew that I'd have a better chance of catching a rare Pokemon by going inside. I just wanted to win this thing and take the prize. For sure though, going inside the volcano would prove to be dangerous, stupid, and life threatening, but also beneficial to us winning.

We began down the cramped path. Shadow led the way, as I followed behind carefully so that I wouldn't fall into the boiling lava pool that was too close for my liking. I wasn't sure what was in store for us, but both Shadow and I were ready to take down whatever came our way. Nothing was going to take us down... except maybe the volcano exploding.

"Bzzt... I knew Shadow and I could win this, especially with nub entrees like Ataro! Bzzt..."

Unknown to the trainer, the Mecha Pidgey that was guiding Jerome was actually a spy sent by fellow ranger and trainer, Ataro. Jerome's rival had already bribed the entire National Park and the staff to send in a corrupted Mecha Pidgey. Jerome was in for some hard time.

As Jerome and his Houndoom walked down the cramped path cautiously, the cave started quivering violently! It felt like an earthquake and the lava had almost spilled out of their crevice. The quake forced a couple of boulders that seemed to be attached to the top of the cave to drop down. Jerome's only path was blocked immediately by the huge boulders. But more importantly, a flying scorpion Pokemon had appeared right in front of them, frowning very unhappily.

It must have been disturbed by the sudden quiver, and was looking for a battle. Will you run away from this Gligar, or attempt to catch it?

I had barely took notice of the Pidgey that had been guiding us. I was too excited about winning this competition that I sort of missed it. I was quite amazed at how this park was adding guides like this, but also worried about my job. Well, not particularly my job, but the jobs of my fellow Rangers. I knew I wouldn't be losing my job since I had connections with one of the Elites, but with mechs like this Pidgey, people like nub Ataro would probably end up losing their jobs in the near future.

As we continued walking down the cramped path, the cave began shaking quite violently. I quickly became worried and a bit scared as I saw the lava come onto the path. The force from the shake also caused some of the boulders to drop down, blocking the path. Going further down that path was immediately shot down. I was definitely not climbing over that rock, not with these sporadic shakes going on. I could fall off the rock and into the lava and die. That would make Ataro auto win, I’m sure he’d like that.

As I was looking for another way around the boulder, which by the way wasn’t looking possible, a small purple, bat-like Pokémon appeared. It had two blue wings with pointed claws at the edges of each wing. It was Gligar, he snapped his two purple pincers on its forelegs at us. I could see his stringer swinging violently at us as he landed on the ground on his two short hind legs. He licked his two front fangs and prepared for battle.

I was quite satisfied with my encounter. I was very lucky to have run into this Pokémon for my first encounter. I was definitely going to capture this little guy. With the amount of room in this cramped cave, Gligar wouldn’t be doing much flying.

I knew Gligar was a Flying and Ground type. I also knew that based on the size of his stinger, that he was a male since females tend to have smaller stingers. Gligar glides through the air without a sound as if it were sliding. This Pokémon hangs on to the face of its foe using its clawed hind legs and the large pincers on its forelegs, then injects the prey with its poison barb.

“Alright, this Gligar shouldn’t pose much of a threat.” I said to Shadow. “We can take him.” I was mainly just saying that so that Gligar could get worked up and hopefully not think straight. I wanted to do this as quickly and efficiently as possible. I also wanted to have Shadow take as little damage as possible as well. His health also counted in the scoring at the end. The higher his health, the better the score we got. I wasn’t going to waste too much time here, but I did want to play with the Gligar a bit to wear it out.

“Shadow, use Smog to blind him, then Double Team.” I said. The idea here was to disoriented him. “After that, try using Howl. I don’t really need you to raise your attack, but I do want him to become confused in who to attack.”

The goal was for Smog to hit Gligar in his face. In doing so, he will have a hard time seeing with the smog around him. To further disable his accuracy and raise Shadow’s evasion, I was having Shadow use Double Team. By using Double Team, Shadow would be able to duplicate himself into many copies of himself. There wasn’t much room for too many duplicates, but enough to get Gligar confused, which was primarily what I wanted. Then, if all went well and the first two moves went according to plan, Howl was next.

What would happened was either Shadow, or one of his clones would begin to Howl. Then right after that, another clone, or Shadow himself would also begin to how. This would continue for a few moments to disorientate Gligar. Once that was complete, we could proceed with our assault and slowly take down Gligar’s health. Wasn’t sure what moves I would use next, but I was more of a go with the flow kind of guy. It would come to me eventually. I was pretty good at using what was around me in battles. However, there wasn’t really much to use here at the moment. Just lava and a big rock blocking my escape route, and that was basically it. Not much to work with, but it wasn’t going to be a problem. We were having a great start in this competition. I was sure to get some good points from capturing this Gligar. I wondered how that nub Ataro was doing. I knew that area of the park was going to have Thunderstorms today, which was both fortunate and unfortunate for me. It was fortunate because then Ataro would probably get scared and go home, but it was also unfortunate because it was during these Thunderstorms that rare and powerful Pokémon would come out, which was exactly what he was going to need to take the win from us.

The trainer had called for a Smog, Double Team, then followed by a Howl. The complex string of command was considered simple for a Gentle Houndoom. As the Houndoom huffed a puff of black smoke from his mouth, the Gligar took advantage of the concentration required by Houndoom and dropped onto the ground. He started to punch the ground repeatedly with his pincers, creating a cloud of sand that seemed to flicker briefly with a purple shine.

Before anything could happen, Houndoom had already spread himself into several clones. Well, there was only two additional clones along with the real Houndoom. They stood in a arrow formation and one-by-one, they started to howl non-stop. The Gligar didn't seemed to care however, and continued punching the ground. Soon, the cloud of sand was created just as the Smog was about to reach Gligar. The Sand Attack managed to slice through the smoke and splashed towards the clones in a barrage of missile-like attack. The clones quickly dissipated and the real one standing at the foremost was struck with what seemed to be a generic Sand Attack. But upon looking closer, the sand around each spike was simply a camouflage, for what was hidden underneath each sand pellet was a fuchsia purple-colored sting. The Houndoom winced briefly in pain, but thankfully it was not strong enough to cause much damage or poison the target. It did seemed to affect Houndoom's vision by a little though.

Gligar seemed to be skilled in using complex move combinations.

Gligar appeared to be unaffected by any of our attacks, nor did any of them even work, which was going to be a problem. Smog didn’t even do damage to Gligar, Double Team didn’t work for shit, and How didn’t even raise his attack. It was just basically a turn wasted. What was even worse was that Gligar made the first damaging blow. Wasn’t really much or powerful, but it did damage and temporarily blinded Shadow on one eye.

We were going to have to change things up if we wanted this battle to start going in our favor. The first thing that came to my mind was adding a status effect onto Gligar. It was to my best knowledge that Gligar knew the ability Poison Heal, or at least I knew Gliscor did. That meant that I was not going to be using Toxic on Gligar yet, I didn’t want him regaining any health… not that he has lost any yet anyways. No, I wanted to burn him. Shadow had this move called Will-o-wisp that would instantly burn the opponent if it made contact. That was what I wanted Shadow to use. That would give us the edge we needed to take this battle back.

Now, I wasn’t quite sure what move to use after that. I didn’t know whether or not I wanted to go on the offensive, or stick to the defensive strategies. In my opinion, we needed to continue with the defensive strategies, but Shadow really wasn’t the defensive type so he didn’t have that many moves that helped his defense. The only thing I could think of was Taunt. That was a move that angered the opponent and usually caused them to rush at you. It was something that could most definitely be useful here.

I just wasn’t sure whether or not it would work, at least not after seeing how Double Team, Howl, and Smog didn’t work. It was a risk doing so, but I was going to have to take it, I wanted him to come rushing at Shadow angrily. Since Shadow couldn’t see with both eyes, there was a chance his attack could miss. With Gligar charging at him, he could hit Gligar once the flying poison scorpion-bat thing was close enough.

“Alright Shadow, here is what we are going to do next.” I began to instruct him. “I want you to use Taunt. Try to get him as mad as possible so that he comes charging at you. As soon as you see him get close enough, hit him with Will-o-Wisp. It is important that this move hits him, otherwise, the attack he will come charging at you with might actually do damage if you can’t evade it in time.”

Shadow nodded and began making faces and jeering at Gligar. I wasn’t sure if it would work, but I hoped it did. Once that was done and whether or not the Gligar came charging at Shadow or not, Shadow was going to release a Will-o-Wisp attack at Gligar. Will-o-Wisp was just a ball of blue, ghastly flames that were extremely hot and burn on contact. That should put us back in the advantage in this battle. Gligar was at the advantage by partially disabling Shadow’s vision, getting the first move in, and already knowing this area quite well. We needed to surpass him and gain control of this battle. So far, this seemed like it was going to work, I could only hope that it did and didn’t turn out badly.

You start to get anxious at the bad start that you seemed to have had in the battle and call for a Taunt, followed up by a Will-O-Wisp. Just as you had suspected, Gligar was trying to raise his attack powers with a Swords Dance by crossing his pincers in some sort of formation. This was forbidden by Houndoom, whom had started making weird noises and funny faces at the Gligar.

Gligar was not too impressed and started to get angry indeed. He started to glide around your Pokemon in the cramped room and dived towards Houndoom several times, but missing it. You start to think if the Gligar was using Aerial Ace, but the power and force of that attack was much stronger. Just as the Gligar dived down a final time, your Pokemon quickly released a burst of burning wisps and they struck Gligar by the wings. The sudden attack was enough to weaken the oncoming attack slightly, but not strong enough to stop it. Gligar then slammed into your Houndoom with an Acrobatics, before dropping back onto the ground near the edge of the lava, suffering the aftereffects of the burn damage.

Shadow was already taking too much damage. At this rate he would be down to three fourths of his max health points by the next attack. I was going to have to weaken the Gligar up a bit now. I didn’t want him staying at full health any longer. I had just the move to take his health down a good amount. Shadow was lucky enough to have a Hidden Power that dealt Ice type damage. Ice type moves were not just effective, they were super effective. Both Flying and Ground types are weak to Ice, Gligar being both just made him weak to it by times four. It was the perfect move to bring his health down with. I was hoping it did a lot of damage, but not enough to knock it out. That would not only be a complete waste of time, but it would also take points off of us because Shadow lost a significant amount of health already. I couldn’t have him losing anymore. That being said, I did have some potions I could give him to heal himself back up with later on right before we ended this run.

“Okay, Shadow, use Hidden Power. Don’t knock it out, but don’t hold back either. I want some good damage done on Gligar. Be careful though because it is already burned.” I called out to my trusted partner. Shadow began forming small light blue orbs around his body. They floated around him as they grew in size. Once they were softball sized, he launched them simultaneously at Gligar. This was it. It would either do enough for me to capture, or do too much and accidently knock it out. I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best.

You start to go offensive on the Gligar. Taking advantage of Gligar's impairment by the earlier Will-O-Wisp, you follow up with an extra super effective Hidden Power, hoping to blast the wits out of Gligar. Gligar was defiant however, and rushed in with a Quick Attack before your Pokemon could do anything. Houndoom simply brushed the attack aside for it had barely left a scratch, and released his Hidden Power. The attack pushed Gligar all the up against a boulder and he started to pant heavily from all the damage he has received.

"Alright Shadow! Well done buddy!" I called out to him. "All we have to do now is stall. Use Protect if Gligar attacks you with any move. Once he is hurt by the burn damage, we shall throw this Parkball." Shadow howled happily and braced himself for whatever the Gligar was going to throw our way. He was going to block it off and stall until the burn damage finally took in. Once that happened, if it happened, I would then throw my Parkball and hopefully successfully capture this Gligar. I wasn't sure if anyone else had captured anything, but this was sure a win for me.

You decided to stall for more damage while using Protect. The Gligar whom was not as well-trained in battle as your Houndoom, started hammering the barrier with repeated barrages of knocks using his pincers. Finally deciding to give up, the Gligar turned back and used a Guillotine on the cave wall instead, much to your horror.

As the mountain started to quiver violently, the rocks at the ceiling started to separate and drop down. Luckily for you, the area you were standing at was relatively unharmed, but rather, the rocks had all flooded the lava pool, and created a narrow bridge instead! The Gligar fell back onto the ground after the attack and winced in pain as the burn damage started to hurt it again. You decide to take advantage of the situation and throw your Park Ball.

The Park Ball sealed shut and captured Gligar easily. With no other choices in your routes, you decide to take on the newly created path thanks to Gligar's Guillotine. The rock boulders were extremely uneven and one wrong step could land you in the lava, and you take your steps cautiously and slowly through the lava via the 'bridge'.

You've barely reached the middle of the 'bridge', before a Cubone walks up to you from the other end of it. It whacked its bone on its arm and started shouting at you in some weird Pokemon language. It must have been disturbed by that earlier vibration. Will you try to scare it off by having your Houndoom to intimidate it or attempt to capture it?

“Haha! That was well done Shadow!” I praised him. “You never cease to amaze me.” I walked over to pick up the Parkball containing Gligar. This was going pretty well so far. Just as I was picking up the sphere, a small brown colored Pokémon with a bone mask and a long bone club emerged. It appeared angry for some reason, probably because of the tremors that Gligar caused. It must have assumed that it was us that were disturbing the area.

“I am sorry for having disrupted you. We didn’t mean to. We just want to pass by.” I said, hoping the little guy would forgive us and let us pass.

The Cubone nodded adorably in response to your apology. And guess what? It started to lead you to safety! Unknown to you, there was actually a secret tunnel to your right after you have crossed the bridge. The Cubone punched a seemingly usual cave wall on the right three times with its club, and the 'wall' collapsed and you see a new entrance instead. As the Cubone brought you in, your Houndoom began to light up the dark cave with his flames, to which you note that it was just a room with a long passage.

Just as you start to brush it aside as nothing unusual, you began to notice the huge rectangular golden chest that was sitting at the edge of the passage, all the way up front. Curiously got the best of you and you started to approach the golden chest with excitement. Suddenly, you're stopped by a trio of brown heads that emerged from the ground. The Dugtrio is in your way. Will you attempt to catch it, or ignore it and move forward to check out the chest?

Cubone accepted our apology, which I was grateful for. Most Pokemon here weren't so understanding. We truly didn't mean to disturb it in whatever it was doing and I was glad it could see that. Cubone decided to lead us to a new path, which I was also thankful for because I really had no idea where to go from there. With his bone club, he hit the wall three times and the wall collapsed. We proceeded forward and saw a small golden chest up ahead. I was quite excited and didn't know what in the world would be inside. It could be treasure and we could be rich. I thanked Cubone, and without wasting any time, I quickly made my way over towards the chest. Then, a Dugtrio got in our way. Like any other Pokemon that we encountered, it wanted to do battle with us.

"I don't want to battle you guys right now, sorry." I said, tossing over a doll to them. I then proceeded towards the chest and began to open it.

You decide not to battle the Dugtrio that has stopped you and instead walk forward and open the treasure chest. The Dugtrio was not pleased though and continued standing there, to which you responded by throwing your PokeDoll forward, which easily distracted it. You bubble with excitement as you open the box, and a bright flame of fire instantly lit up the room. A magical (?) horse galloped out from within the chest. You start to wonder how is that even possible that a Rapidash could fit inside the chest, but the Mecha Pidgey smacks your head and squawks out loud to ask if you want to battle your second last encounter.

As I open the golden chest, my body is quickly filled with excitement. So much could be in the chest, even if it was nothing, merely finding it was exciting. I liked finding stuff like this on my expeditions. As soon as it was fully opened, the room went into flames, and somehow, I guess magically, a majestic Rapidash galloped out of the box. I wasn't quite sure how the hell one was put into there anyways, but regardless, it was here.

"I do not wish to battle you, you magnificent creature, but will you let me ride you!" I called out to Rapidash. I felt like a knight and this was my trusty steed. I knew the flames on its back would not burn anyone it trusted, and I figured it would trust me or at least not burn me since I did set it free from that box.

You were rather disappointed with the Rapidash but asked to ride it instead. Rapidash got mad and kicked you with its hooves, before a familiar Pokemon hopped out and begged for Rapidash's forgiveness for the sake of you. It's a Houndour! It must have been a child birthed by your Houndoom and another female Houndoom while you didn't notice.

A small Houndour lept out from behind a rock. I wasn't sure if it had been following us this whole time or not, but that seemed unlikely since Shadow would have left me know as soon as he detected it. The small Houndour pleaded with Rapidash to leave us alone. I was surprised, I hadn't really had any wild Pokemon defend us before. I wasn't quite sure why it did, probably because Shadow was the same species as him. It was sort of cool. Once Rapidash left, I walked over to the little Houndour and patted his head and thanked him for defending us.

"Thank for that, I don't know what was wrong with that Rapidash or how it even got into that box in the first place." I said to the Houndour. "Looks like we're done for today, so we'll just be heading over towards the front gate. You are welcome to follow us if you want." Then I handed Shadow an Energy Powder.

    @Ataro; I am done!

You pat Houndour's head appreciatively but decided to pass it up still. You handed Houndoom an Energy Powder, before walking proudly back to the official gathering zone for all returning trainers and realized that you're the first to arrive! You quickly passed the host your Pokemon and the host started to take out a recording chip out of the Pidgey Mecha that was following you throughout.

It is time for judging your performance.
