The Ranger's body was tingling with excitement as she awaited her first Trainer for the special event happening in the Park. Wild Park Pokemon were eager to have more elbow room on the Island, it seemed, and were intelligent enough to communicate that wish to the Rangers through their psychic-abled peers. So it was that the Rangers put their heads together collectively and decided that they should have an event for the Easter season, and to let Trainers compete on how creative they were when capturing wild Pokemon, with prizes for the winners. This, of course, attracted a ton of eager young Trainers who wanted to fill their teams full of tough Pokemon and Trainers who wanted to show their capturing finesse.

Zor checked the file for the Trainer that was about to come in; Medericus. She assumed that was the only real part of his name--Commander Medericus Badass just seemed too far-fetched to be true. Then again, stranger things had happened before... She vaguely recalled seeing him in the Park at one time. He was taking a seriously long time capturing Pokemon with Ranger James, or "Chainy" as everyone tended to call him. The door to the Ranger Outpost opened and the blonde Ranger looked up to see her Trainer walking through the door with a single Poke Ball at his hip. Zor's Pokemon, Dusk, perked up and fixed the young man with his red gaze.

"Ah, Medericus, right?" she asked with a smile. "I'm Zorayda. I'll be your Ranger for today. You can just call me 'Zor', if you want," she added, winking. "This is Dusk, my Umbreon. Don't mind his grumpiness, he takes everything a bit too seriously." She patted down her Ranger's uniform, making sure she had everything she needed. "Okay, seemed that's all in order. Are you ready to go?" she asked Medericus cheerily.

"Alright Magic, there's the outpost. Begin to descend, alright buddy?"

The mostly purple blimp let out a ghostly wail, along with some gas to slowly lower herself and I down to the ground. It had been quite some time since I last visited the park. I decided not to bring a whole bottle of Jameson like I did last time. Instead, I decided to bring just a flask of Jack Daniels. I was banking on the liquid keeping me a tad bit warmer at the cold, frigid mountain known as Mt. Oktori. Some might say it's crazy to bring a Flying-type to a place filled with Ice-types, but I had faith in my Drifblim. She was really ecstatic when I told my team that I was planning on entering the contest, how could I not take her?

"This is low enough, I can hop off from here. Thanks for the ride Magical Hot-Air Balloon of Hopes and Dreams, now let's go kick some ass!"

I hoped down from atop of my floating Ghost blimp. The white cotton fluff on top of her head ended up being the perfect seat. I hopped off and landed with a thud, fumbling with her Pokeball in my pocket. The door was small, so I decided that it would be better to place Drifblim back into her Pokeball. I recalled her to her tiny temporary sphere and attached the ball to my hip. I knew this wasn't going to be a cake walk. Drifblim needed as much rest as she could get before our mini adventure. There are even Dragons at Mt. Oktori, and if we unfortunately run into one, we had to be ready.

I took a quick swig of my flask before walking through the door. Inside was a cute blonde Ranger waiting with an Umbreon. "Ah, Medericus, right?" she asked with a smile. "I'm Zorayda. I'll be your Ranger for today. You can just call me 'Zor', if you want," she added with a wink. I wasn't too sure, but I think she was hitting on me. Either that, or the Jack Daniels is hitting me a lot quicker. "This is Dusk, my Umbreon. Don't mind his grumpiness, he takes everything a bit too seriously. Okay, seemed that's all in order. Are you ready to go?"

"Yep! Commander Medericus Badass, ready to make some Hopes and Dreams. Let's get this shindig on the road!"

Medericus's easygoing attitude was infectious; the Ranger found herself smiling in spite of his bad habit of swearing. He seemed to be a laid-back, happy kind of guy--someone she'd enjoy the company of. Perhaps after the run, she'd linger to chat a while. Zor arched a brow briefly when she smelled a trace of alcohol on Medericus's breath, but shrugged it off easily. So long as he wasn't slobbering drunk and irresponsible with his Pokemon, she could let a little of the liquor slide. When he messed about with the Poke ball at his belt, she also noted a pair of dice tattooed to the inside of his right wrist. For some odd reason this intrigued her; Zor wanted to ask why he'd gotten that particular tattoo. She withheld her questions, though, and led him through the door, where a huge crowd was vying to get into the Park for the contest.

"Mmkay, you're going to Oktori, right, sugar?" she asked, the pet name coming easily. She figured that a guy like Medericus wouldn't mind her somewhat chatty and borderline flirtatious demeanor with the opposite sex; hopefully her instincts proved correct. They got to the docks and took the little boat to the river bank that led to the mountains. Zor turned to Medericus, expression a bit more serious. Dusk sat next to her, tail curled around his toes. "Okay, you'll lead the way, with me following close behind, okay? Since this is a test of you and your Pokemon's bond in battle, and the creativity used in capturing wild Pokemon, I'll be in the background for most of this tour. I won't give you advice and I won't comment on how you're doing, all right? Now, let's get going!"

She followed behind the taller man, smirking a bit since she got to watch his backside as he walked. Perhaps she was being a little bit of a perv, but with the way his hips moved, she really couldn't help herself. They stopped suddenly when the first wild Pokemon appeared; its pointed edges looked sharp and dangerous as it floated in front of them. It looked innocent enough; like a huge snowflake, but Zor knew better. Its eyes glowed from within its hardened body. She could feel the icy chill of its power from where she stood. The Ranger stood by and watched Medericus to see how he would react to the sudden appearance of Cryogonal.

"Mmkay, you're going to Oktori, right, sugar?" she asked me. I was caught off guard by the pet name, but it felt nice in a way. I nodded yes to her question, flashing a quick smile too. We made our way to the docks where a small boat awaited to shuttle us to the mountains. "Okay, you'll lead the way, with me following close behind, okay? Since this is a test of you and your Pokemon's bond in battle, and the creativity used in capturing wild Pokemon, I'll be in the background for most of this tour. This was an honest surprise for me. I had expected it to be more like my previous run with my ranger leading. I suppose it made sense though. This was a capture contest; of course the rules would be different. I detached Drifblim's Pokeball from my belt. I felt a lot more comfortable holding the device in my hand, never knowing when I was going to need her to come out.

I did as I was instructed and took the lead. I had a strange feeling that all she really wanted to do was check out my butt. I was going to make a comment about it, but then a chill filled the air. There had to be an Ice-type Pokemon around. Sure enough, a snowflake floated into view. I almost started laughing because of how ridiculous it looked. It had an almost comical face; a face that looked like it was in constant pain and agony.

"Ice-types aren't really my type, so I'd like to sneak past this if we could," I told my ranger.

Zor rolled her eyes at the pun, but smiled in spite of herself at the cheesy joke. She eyed the Cryogonal and watched it carefully as they made their way past the Pokemon. It only turned and stared as they left it behind to go farther up the mountain. After they were a ways away, it turned and floated off, seeming satisfied that the two humans weren't going to try anything funny. As Medericus and Zor walked on in silence (Zor was still stealing glances at him when he wasn't looking), they saw a shape waddling around awkwardly on the mountain's path, leaving stubby tracks in the snow.

A white-shelled Pokemon with two yellow eyes stared up at them warily, stopping when it saw them. The Shelgon didn't make a move towards them, but it wouldn't move out of the way, either, as Trainer and wild Pokemon stared each other down.

Luckily for us, the Cryogonal didn't seem to want to cause a ruckus; it let us pass by. I let out a sigh of relief. I really didn't want to risk any early damage to Drifblim, especially against something as potentially dangerous like Cryogonal. I decided to lead us a bit more up the mountain trail. It seemed like a good place to go for Pokemon.

As we made our way up the mountain, we spotted a white creature waddling through the snow. It looked like a shell with some grooves on the upper half and short gray legs. The creature turned to face us, revealing two yellow eyes hidden within the shell. No doubt about it, this Pokemon was a Shelgon. The Dragon-type stood still, watching me. I had no qualms with this Pokemon and had no plan to catch it.

"I'd like to avoid this battle if all possible," I whispered to Zor.

The pair of them ran past the Shelgon quickly after Medericus made his wishes known; not interested in a fight, the Shelgon allowed them to pass, continuing on its way. Zor and her Umbreon followed closely behind the Trainer as he walked on, following the mountain's trail.

Soon they encountered another wild Pokemon--this time, a small, blue humanoid figure with a gold crest upon its head. It flexed its muscles threateningly at them in case it needed to scare them off, but didn't really look as if it felt like fighting. Zorayda looked to Medericus to see what he would do in response to the Machop's threat.

    (OOC: Male)

Zorayda and I managed to slip past the walking eggshell. Along the way up the trail, I decided it would be a good idea to let Drifblim enjoy this crisp, fresh air. I clutched the Pokeball in preparation to let her loose. “Come on out Magical Hot-Air Balloon of Hopes and Dreams. Stretch your, uh, limbs?” I said, unsure. I tossed the ball to the ground, and with a bright flash of light, Drifblim appeared from its spherical home. “Sorry girl, I’m never too sure what to call those things.”

The half Ghost, half Flying-type Pokemon let out a small cry of joy. It wasn’t even intimidated when it saw my ranger’s Umbreon; Drifblim was too carefree and jolly to be scared of the Dark-type. Hopefully, when it came time for a battle, it would be a bit more in the zone. At that moment, a small bluish-gray figure that was roughly human-shaped emerged from some bushes. I noticed the gold crest atop its head; the flexed muscles of this Pokemon. It was a Machop; one that I had every intention on catching.

I looked back at my ranger and gave her the affirmative nod that I was going to try to catch this Pokemon. I then looked at Drifblim, gave her a thumbs up and said, “Alright gal, looks like I let you out at the right moment. We’re gonna catch this Machop. Let’s start this battle off by setting up some defense with Stockpile, and then I want you to fire a Thunder Wave at it to keep it under control.”

The ghostly blimp began to inhale a massive amount of air from her red underbelly, becoming nearly fifty percent larger than it originally was. Shortly after, she raised two of her appendages up to the yellow X and fired a blue jagged bolt of electricity at the Fighting-type foe. She was aiming for the ridged crest on the head; a decent size target that would hopefully hit.

The Machop punched his fists together and shook his head back and forth as if preparing himself for his next moves, trying to land critical hits. He winced as the Thunder Wave hit, but he pushed on and came at Magic full-force, landing a neat chop to the balloon's bouncy side. It didn't seem to bother the ghostly blimp too much, however; she was strong to Fighting-type moves and resisted the hit. Her added air pressure inside her body made her defend much better, as well, even if the Machop landed a critical blow.

Machop let out a cry and stomped his feet, ready to attack again if necessary.

"You're doing great, girl!" I shouted encouragingly to my Pokemon.

I began to think of a plan in my head. Even though I had the type advantage completely in my favor, Machop's Karate Chop did more damage than I thought it would. Machop was definitely a strong Pokemon. I had to think of a way to use that strength against it. Maybe if I could find a way to control its fists and feet. The only move that Drifblim knew that could potentially to do that was Constrict. It was a risky chance, but one that would undoubtedly be worth it.

I started to envision how this would all play out. First, Magical Hot-Air Balloon of Hopes and Dreams would get in close enough to use Constrict. Drifblim would ideally slip behind the Superpower Pokemon and wrap each of her appendages around Machop's limbs, specifically his wrists. Drifblim would then hopefully be able to act as impromptu puppeteer and somewhat gain control over the humanoid Fighting-type Pokemon. Next, Magical would use her grip on Machop to force the strong foe into slapping and punching himself.

After Machop gets some self-abuse, I would follow up with a quick Gust to his back to create some distance again. Drifblim would release a quick, compressed stream of wind from her small, red outlet underneath. The Flying-type attack should give a decent amount of space between the two, not allowing Machop much of an opportunity to retaliate with a close quarters attack. Hopefully whatever moves Machop decides to do between these attacks don't throw a wrench into my plans.

"Alright Magical, here's the plan: start off with Constrict. Try to get behind Machop and latch on to his limbs. Then I want you to beat him up with his own fists for a bit. See how he likes it getting chopped like that. Finally, use Gust to create some space. Wouldn't want to give Machop an easy shot now, would we?"

The Drifblim waggled her limbs happily at Medericus's idea, happy to have a Trainer that liked to use creativity in his battles. But before she could use her moves, the Machop came in fast, fists blazing as he landed multiple fast, focused blows upon the bulky Pokemon blimp. The Steel-type Bullet Punch made Magic wince for a few seconds but she kept going, wrapping her arms around the Machop's wrists in an attempt to get it to hit itself. The Constrict worked, holding its arms back and disallowing movement, but it seemed that was all Magic could do. The Machop was simply too strong to be controlled by sheer force; the Drifblim and the Machop were in a stalemate. Magic used her Gust attack, making the Machop angry as it thrashed about it pain, breaking loose from one of the bonds but succumbing momentarily to the paralysis Magic had inflicted upon him earlier. Drifblim held fast to the Machop's right wrist, where she remained like a strange balloon tied to a child's hand.

"Shit, I was afraid that might've happened," I mumbled under my breath. "It's alright Magical, just hold on tight to his wrist, this can still kinda work for us."

I had to think fast. How could I possibly underestimate Machop that much? It's a really tough Pokemon, of course it wasn't going to let me control it that easily. Though this new turn of events might pan out better. Instead of spreading out Magical's strength across Machop's whole body, she can now concentrate on only his right wrist for better control. There were a couple of options that came immediately to mind. The first option was have Magical keep a firm grasp onto Machop's wrist and use his own momentum against himself. This was definitely the riskier of the two. The whole plan relied solely on Machop's move. If Machop chose not to attack, the whole plan would fall completely apart. However, if Machop decided to use a strong enough move, Drifblim could jerk Machop's arm causing the Fighting-type to either hit himself or force him off balance; putting Magical in prime position to deliver a devastating attack.

The second option seemed more favorable. Magical Hot-Air Balloon of Hopes and Dreams would start off with an Astonish. Being that close up to Machop would hopefully creep the slate blue human-like Pokemon out, maybe even causing a flinch! Whether the flinch happened or not, an Astonish with such little distance between the two would definitely startle Machop. This would hopefully buy enough time for the next phase of the plan: Drifblim floating upwards with Machop in tow. Whilst still grasping onto Machop, Drifblim would ascend a few meters up and then release her grip on the Fighting-type opponent. With a little luck, the fall will damage Machop a decent amount.

“Alright Magical, here’s the plan. I want you to startle Machop with Astonish. Then when he’s distracted, float up and drop him!”

The Drifblim floated into the air, confusing Machop as to its intentions until its feet began to lift off the ground. In a panic, it struggled fruitlessly with its one wrist still attached to Magic, who floated lazily upwards like a living blimp. The Machop, angry, punched the side of the Drifblim with an ice-coated fist, landing a critical blow and gaining power in adversity from its paralysis. The Drifblim wailed and nearly dropped the Fighting-type in a fit of pain, but she held on tightly until they were high in the air. Drifblim turned back to the Machop and screeched loudly in a ghostly, nails-across-chalkboard type of noise, making a creepy face along with it and making the Machop stop struggling long enough for Magic to loosen its hold on the blue humanoid Pokemon. Then, with a sense of finality the Machop was dropped, unable to get his footing as he landed with a solid crack. The ground was shaken and a large human-shaped hole dug into the ground from Machop's sheer strength and force in body. The paralysis made it unable to react for a good long moment as the Drifblim slowly came floating down, shivering from the icy attack and looking a bit tired from the intensity of Machop's attack.

"That was perfect! Stay up there gal, this battle will be over soon!"

The plan worked perfectly. Drifblim screeched at the foe while carrying him up in the sky, followed by the drop that sent him crashing back down to earth. Machop hit the ground hard, landing with a loud thud that cracked through the air. This was the moment. My gut instinct was telling me that the time to catch Machop was now, but before I go for the capture I wanted to make sure that Magical Hot-Air Balloon of Hopes and Dreams would be safe from another attack. I contemplated two solid options.

Option A was straight forward: use Minimize. Drifblim would shrink herself down to a fraction of her size making it more difficult for Machop to land an attack. Option B was to create a makeshift cover with Haze, concealing herself in the thick smoke that would result from the attack. However, the downside to using Haze would be losing the Defense boost from Stockpile. I dug into my pocket looking for my lucky coin. The only way to decide this would be by chance. I flung the coin up in the air, watching the silver glare back at me with every spin. I caught the coin in midair with one hand and slapped it against the back of my other hand. I grinned and muttered, "Tails. High risk; high reward."

I looked up at Drifblim and called out, "Alright Magical, use Haze around you! Conceal yourself in the smoke and hide." Drifblim let out a gleeful noise and began to spurt out a dark, thick fog from her tattered red opening, completely covering herself and the air that surrounded her. I glanced back at the hole that Machop was in. I reached for one of the Super Balls that was in the basket and got a firm grip on it. I took aim at Machop's head and chucked the ball at it.

Machop lie on the ground in utter defeat, shivering from the effects of Paralysis. Magic's Mist clouded the field, making it nearly impossible to see. The cool, wet air seemed to pull quiet in with it as Medericus finally pulled out a ball and threw it with a sense of finality at the Machop that still lay stunned upon the ground. With a final click, it was captured, leaving the misty mountain peaceful and quiet once more. Zor nodded at the Trainer and went to pick up the ball, putting in on her belt before leading the Pokemon and her Trainer onward.

Next they came upon another Fighting-type; this time it was a small Pokemon holding a plank of wood and glaring at them as they approached. The wild Timburr looked ready to fight them if it needed to.

    *ding*

"We did it!" I shouted out to my Pokemon, still hiding in the fog. "Come on down Magical, let me heal those wounds of yours."

Drifblim span round and round, arms extended, clearing her of her smoky hiding place. She floated down gleeful, delighted by her assist in the capture of Machop and her first battle in the National Park. I rummaged through the basket looking for an Energy Powder; it was the only thing available in the basket that could heal a Pokemon's health. Inside the basket was a neatly tied red pouch that had a tag labeled "Energy Powder". I loosened the string a bit and took a whiff of it. The contents inside had an earthy aroma to it, a fine powder that tickled my nostrils. I looked at Drifblim with a puzzled look and asked, "Hey, gal, how does this work exactly? Do you, like, eat it? Or do I rub this on your wounds?" She shrugged her limbs. I guess it didn't really matter. To be on the safe side, I rubbed half the powder on her wounds, massage the powder where Machop had stricken her with Ice Punch, and fed the remainder to her from the opening underneath.

"You did great back there Magical, I'm proud of you. Now let's keep going, only two more encounters left!"

I gave a nod to Zorayda, signaling that we were ready to continue our journey. The four of us continued up the mountain, when another roughly humanoid creature appeared in front of us. However, this one was mostly tanned colored with pink bulges looking like veins on its outer body, equipped with a plank of wood. It was a Timburr. I was satisfied with Machop though, and didn't wish to tussle with another strong Fighting-type.

"If ya wouldn't mind Zo, I would like to get away from this without a fight."

Zor nodded and they attempted to back away from the Timburr, who watched them with careful eyes but ultimately let them alone when it realized that they weren't going to attack or cause it any harm. It trotted away, dragging its little plank of wood with it. The pair of Trainers climbed up the mountain further, the cold creeping in as snow fell softly upon their faces. Soon they came across a lumpy figure, snoring until it heard them approach. The thing lifted its head, revealing huge eyes and a mean set of teeth. Unfurling sizeable red wings, the lizardlike Pokemon bore down upon them, its intimidating facade threatening to attack. Its blue body shook the earth with each footstep, a true dragon in every right.

Lady Luck must have been on our side, as we managed to avoid another unwanted battle without a fuss. The four of us continued up the cold, frosty mountain towards our soon to be last foe. I had no idea what awaited us, but I was anxious. One more, and this contest was over. Up ahead was a relatively large blue and red sleeping creature. It perked its head up, gazing at us with its beady eyes and huge fangs, standing up to show its full body. The fearsome Salamence gave an intimidating look, showing that it was the true alpha male of this mountain.

"Fuck this, I'm not taking any chances of running. Let's toss it a doll and scram while it's busy."

Zorayda snorted at the comment and watched as Medericus chucked the doll over the side of the mountain. The Salamence's eyes followed it and it spread its wings, diving down the ravine and disappearing from view. The Ranger smiled and looked to her Trainer.

"Well, Medericus, it seems you've come across all the Pokemon you've been allotted in this run! Time to go back now," she said, and soon they trekked their way to the bottom of the mountain once more, thankfully not running into anything that impeded their path. She led Magic and Medericus to the office where she filed their information and took the ball containing Machop out. "I'll keep this for a little bit to be judged--come back once the Contest is over and you'll either receive this Pokemon or a random Egg from your list, okay?" she informed as the Trainer began to leave. But Zor wanted to say one more thing, her face turning a light shade of pink.

"Um, wait, Medericus. I was wondering, well... I'm not your Ranger anymore, so I can ask this I guess." The blonde bit her lip nervously. "Do you... want to go for coffee with me, sometime?"
