Decided I'd do these runs in size 1 font. Aww yeah.

    ***

Coming down to Meteor Valley, you look around yourself curiously. Dismal clouds loom overhead, threatening to burst open with rain upon your head. A creature, attracted by your footsteps, approaches. With a negligent flick of a purple tail and a quiet meowing noise, the feline sits in front of you, staring into your eyes. It's a Purrloin!

Do you decide to battle or to flee?

Akinai, awaiting her turn to enter the Valley, sat patiently with the remaining Trainers in the outpost. Judging from the look on their faces their emotions ranged from confidence to slight stage fright... after all, in a way they were all competing against each other to find the rarest Pokemon of the event. So this must be what it's like for the daily Capture contests in Johto, Akinai wondered silently. Even though she had yet to visit Johto proper, their Bug Capturing Contest was well known throughout the globe.

Beside her, a Gallade kept glancing over at the exit, fidgeting about nervously. Zen had been eager to participate in this event earlier, it appeared he was starting to get impatient. <When will they call us in? Almost everyone else has entered already!>

We'll be told to head on in soon, I'm sure of it, Akinai replied back, though she was curious what was taking so long as well. After all, she and Zen had been one of the first to arrive... maybe the line was dependent on something else entirely?

As if he could overhear their silent conversation, the official standing guard by the exit called out her name, then nodded to give the green light to go ahead. After receiving her items and thanking the official, Akinai dashed into the gate with Zen closely following behind.

Even though Akinai had entered Meteor Valley a couple times before, something appeared different about this place. The sky was overcast, with dark clouds giving an almost ominous warning of what was yet to come. In addition to her own motivation to find a Pokemon that she was interested in as quickly as possible, this run would be quite different indeed.

Zen, hearing something approaching, immediately adopts a battle stance as he waits for the Pokemon to show itself. Fortunately, or possibly unfortunately for the wild creature, it's a Purloin. <Don't suppose you're interested in this?> Zen asked, though he was fairly certain what his trainer's response would be.

Let's finish this quickly so we can head on ahead, Akinai replied, a little disappointed that they ran into such a common Pokemon but glad that it was one easily taken care of. You won't need much energy for this one, a single Drain Punch should do it in. Even though all Trainer Pokemon used for the event had a form of suppressor attached to them to negate the effect of healing moves, the damaging effect of Drain Punch should still come into effect for this situation.

Zen gave a single nod and dashed forward, his blade-arms glowing with a white light as he charged up his move. Once he was in range of Purloin he jabbed forward, attempting to faint it as quickly as possible.

In one single, fell swoop, your Gallade dashes towards the Purrloin at high speed, slamming his blade-like arm into the Purrloin, almost as if he was trying to punch the creature. On impact, the glowing fist drains Purrloin completely of its health, and it collapses to the floor, knocked out. You decide to move on, your Gallade energised for whatever would come next due to the energy sapped. You walk for a little bit, coming across nothing interesting, until your Gallade notices a sleeping creature, floating in the midst of the path.

It looks like it's sleeping. The pink creature, furled up in mid-air, opens its eyes, however. The Munna looks directly at you, but seems to be curious about something. Do you stay to fight, or do you decide to flee?

Nice one, Zen, Akinai remarked, seeing Purrloin fall in a single hit. It appeared as if the wild Pokemon in the area had been weakened as well to make up for the fact that Trainers could not heal using secondary methods. That or Zen had simply become a lot stronger since the last time they had entered this area; one battle against a surprisingly durable Unown stood out in particular, taking a few hits to go down. While she hated to use such aggressive moves right at the beginning of a fight, they were on a time limit this time around. After checking for a short moment to see that Purrloin had simply fainted, the two headed deeper into the Valley.

Though they had walked a short ways, not a single Pokemon appeared to be in sight. While this could be possible due to the fact that they had been one of the last to enter the area, something else seemed wrong, as if they were all hiding. Zen appeared to share this sentiment, staying on edge and darting his head towards any new sound that was made. It's almost like a ghost valley, Akinai silently muttered, Zen giving a slight nod in agreement.

<Something is up ahead,> Zen relayed, looking straight down the path. <It's definitely a psychic presence, but no idea what it is exactly.> He appeared a little uneasy about this; usually an unknown presence meant that he had never fought this particular species before.

Akinai frowned, looking ahead as well. She could just barely make out something in the distance, but it appeared to be...pink? Are you sure you're not sensing a Clefairy or something? She asked uncertainly. There were no pink Psychic-types that she knew of offhand.

<Clefairy don't give off telepathic waves,> Zen huffed, now annoyed that his powers were being questioned. <Whatever this thing is, it's definitely emitting those.>

They approached the wild Pokemon carefully, both now more curious than alert once they saw just what it was. It was tapir-like in appearance, similar to a Drowzee, but the similarity ended there. It was indeed a pink color, and sported a floral pattern that would make the creature easy to spot from anywhere. For the moment it simply hovered in mid-air, curled up and clearly fast asleep.

What in the world... Is this one of the newer wildlife introduced a year ago?
Akinai couldn't help but stare at the creature in confusion. Either this Pokemon was powerful, or it had chosen a terrible place to take a nap. How had nothing else stumbled upon it yet, when it was right in the middle of the trail?

As if it had been somehow listening the entire time, the Pokemon's eyes shot wide open, now fully awake. For the moment it appears to be content simply staring at Akinai, as if waiting for something.

Akinai, uncomfortable with this new change, took a step back. She had never been a fan of being stared at for a long period of time, and this strange Pokemon appeared to be analyzing her at the moment. Any idea what it is yet? she asked Zen. One of these days, she really needed to shell out the funds needed for a Pokedex, or at least buy a more recent guidebook...

<None at all,> Zen replied, walking in between the wild Pokemon and Akinai. <For the moment it appears pretty focused on you, and keeps blocking my signals. What's the plan?>

For now, just keep trying to get a message in, Akinai responded, moving slowly to the side in an attempt to break eye contact. Tell it we don't want to fight if possible, and try to see if you can find out its name as well. If it makes any aggressive moves, knock it off balance with a Shadow Sneak.

Zen stayed silent, choosing to focus on his current goal instead. The Gallade attempted to establish a temporary link with the second Psychic-type, letting it know that they meant no harm and were just trying to get by. If they were forced to though, he would retaliate with all due speed.

You and your Gallade attempt to walk past, but the Munna whirls in your way, glaring at you as if this is a bad idea. However, Zen reacts to this rather quickly with a Shadow Sneak, slashing into the Munna with virulent force. The Munna seems startled by this quick movement, but it reacts quickly, charging up a Shadow Ball and blasting it off, hitting easily. It then draws back a little, seeming to charge up energy, beginning to crackle slightly.

OOC: I just realized: you have Zen's old moveset saved :/ new moves were added before the event began, can check “last edited” timestamp if you wish.

Even though Akinai was unable to hear just what the wild Pokemon and Zen were saying, all signs were showing that the Gallade's attempts at negotiation were failing. The creature's face, before sporting a look filled with curiosity, suddenly twisted into anger. Whatever Zen had told it, it appeared to be the wrong choice. The Psychic-type glared at the Gallade a moment more before shifting its gaze over to Akinai, clearly ready to attack.

Zen reacted quickly, vanishing from sight and reappearing right next to the wild Pokemon in an eyeblink. Seeing that it was startles from this sudden turn of events, the Gallade did a quick upward slicing motion with one of his blades, scoring a hit on his target. <Shouldn't have taken your eyes off of me,> Zen muttered, in a tone low enough that Akinai had barely been able to “overhear” the remark.

What did you tell it? Akinai inquired, taking a closer look at the wild Pokemon. While Zen's blow had cut deeper than she had anticipated, it still seemed fairly healthy. If anything, it appeared far more irritated than hurt at the moment, it's red eyes glinting with anger. The creature's pink form had uncurled, revealing a rotund body with four short limbs. Now it was clear why it floated in place; with those legs, it was most likely impossible to run away from any predators. That could hardly explain why it had a purple flower pattern adorning the hide though...

<All I did was ask what exactly it was supposed to be!> Zen shot back, though something seemed off about their connection at the moment. While normally calm, the link seemed shaken by something. It shifted wildly from surprise, amusement, and eventually a tinge of embarrassment. <Apparently she didn't take kindly to that.>

Judging from the way the creature's eyes blazed even more from that reply, as well as simply greeting a Pokemon would only enrage the most short-tempered ones out there, Akinai was willing to bet there was more to the story. Really now... are you sure you didn't accidentally slip something else in? she remarked in return.

Before Zen could reply, the wild Pokemon acted first. Its mouth opened widely, revealing a large maw that appeared almost comical on the creature, and a ball of energy quickly materializes, the sphere a sinister midnight shade with a flecks of violet swirling about in the mix. Before Zen could even begin to move, the Shadow Ball struck him dead-on, causing him to stagger back from the blow.

<I may have accidentally added the word “ridiculous” into the mix,> Zen finally admitted, wincing slightly from his opponent's attack. <If it means anything, at least I got an answer that time: she's a Munna, and is really not happy at the moment as you can see.>

Akinai sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose with her thumb and finger as she tried to fight back the urge to reprimand her partner for his lack of tact. While Zen normally kept to himself, he appeared to have all the subtlety of a brick wall sometimes. After seeing other Gallade in action and talking to their trainers, she supposed this was a species trait. Still, this was hardly the first time this had happened and was hardly likely to be the last. Just... let me handle this then, all right? Think she'll listen to me instead?

Zen immediately shook his head, clearly positive that it would not work <She's completely walled off her mind. While she can most likely hear your voice if you speak out loud, I doubt Munna will listen. Has quite an impressive vocabulary of swear words though, its sort of surprising.>

“So much for avoiding a conflict,” Akinai muttered out loud, trying to figure out what to do next. While she had never encountered this Pokemon before, she had no idea if Munna were fairly rare or not; even though she had been in this area before, this zone was home to numerous creatures. The last thing she wanted to do was waste Zen's energy on a Pokemon that they had a decent chance of running into in the future, then end up being unable to battle if they ran into a much stronger opponent. She did a quick mental checklist of the items that all Trainers had received when they joined this event: they mostly consisted of capture devices, though they had been warned that these particular ones had a guaranteed chance of breaking if the capture was unsuccessful, along with a couple other assorted items. Though she was not positive, she was fairly certain they had been given at least one healing item as well. May as well capture now, and release later if we run into something stronger, Akinai finalized.

Seeing that Munna was begging to spark with electrical energy, Akinai readied her next command. Get the drop on her by using Teleport to appear behind her, she advised. Once you have a clear shot, go with a Poison Jab. While possibly poisoning their target was a risky move, she didn't dare risking a more powerful move like Night Slash- if Shadow Sneak, a weaker-damaging move had done a number on the Munna, the stronger move would faint it outright.

Zen once more winked out of sight, attempting to position himself just behind his target. Afterwords, if he had a clear shot, he would strike out with the butt-end of one of his blades, the limb laced with a powerful venom to both damage and possibly poison the Munna.

All my posts have been edited accordingly. Sorry, I had just read the post that I had quoted, instead of your original one. Didn't realise the two were different. Also, Munna gender?

Your Gallade disappears as the Munna tries to zap him, and he quickly reappears behind the pink creature. Having a clear shot at this stage, his blade glows a purple colour, and he slams it into the Munna as it frantically looked around itself. However, by the time it remembered to look behind itself, Zen had already slammed his blade into it, knocking it away. It closes its eyes for a moment, and several orbs shoot from a glowing aura around its body, green in colour -- Hidden Power. It had to have been super-effective, evidently, as Zen took a step back, not expecting the pain that came of it.

Zen's attack, thanks to his well-placed Teleport, had worked perfectly. As the Munna looked about, clearly confused as to where her opponent had disappeared to, the Gallade had plenty of time to charge up his next attack and get a quick blow in. As the attack struck its target, Munna reeled back once more, whirling about to face her opponent once more.

Seeing her opponent was much closer than she had anticipated, Munna prepared her next attack with a clearly impressive speed. After momentarily closing her eyes a moment to focus, the Psychic-type's body began to glow a light green color. Immediately after, the aura split off into orbs of energy, homing in on the nearby Gallade. As the orbs slammed into him Zen involuntarily took a step back from the blow, surprised at how much the attack had hurt him.

    Zen, are you all right?
Akinai asked, worried at seeing Zen in so much pain from a mere two attacks. Either this Munna was quite powerful, or the suppressors attached to all Trainer Pokemon earlier had a secondary effect to them, possibly granting them a higher attack power in return for a weakened defense. If so, this event was about to get a whole lot more interesting.

<I'm fine, but we need to figure out what to do as quickly as possible,> Zen responded, wincing slightly as he adopted his traditional fighting stance once more. The Gallade watched the Pokemon warily now, impressed with its total choice of moves so far; for a Psychic-type, it was using some pretty non-Psychic moves for a Wild.

Munna, for the moment, gave an equal glare in return. Judging from the way she was carrying herself at the moment, the wild Pokemon wasn't in the best condition at the moment; Zen's attacks had struck deep, and she appeared to be forcing herself to keep hovering in place. Even still, she held her ground admirably despite her wounds.

Let's wrap this up then, shall we? Akinai relayed to Zen. Try to land a Hypnosis, since she seems to intent on having a staring contest with you. Then, whether she falls asleep or not, go with a False Swipe. I'll take over from there. While Zen may be able to squeeze in another move before resorting to False Swipe, Akinai didn't want to risk giving the Munna an opening to launch another attack. She would already have to use one of her healing items on Zen as is, no need to make his wounds any worse by stalling the match out.

Zen continued to lock eyes with Munna, this time emitting a soothing wave of psychic energy, trying to lull the Pokemon into slumber. Once this move was complete, he would try rushing forward and attempt a clean swipe with one of his blades.

As soon as Zen was finished with his two moves, Akinai pulled out a Parkball, waiting for this moment ever since her partner had warned her to end this quickly. Seeing the False Swipe fade she aimed quickly, throwing the capture device straight at the Munna.

ZEN TRIES TO USE HYPNOSIS. BUT IT MISSED. AHA. In the time Zen takes to recover from that particular failure, the Munna fires off a green-coloured sphere of energy, slamming into the Gallade. Taken aback, the Pokémon retaliates with a False Swipe, slashing down at the Munna once more. The Munna, now a little too weak to attack properly, simply somersaulted in mid-air, and sound waves blasted from around it, slashing at the Gallade in the form of a SonicBoom attack.

Akinai was surprised to see the Munna pull off two moves in such a quick succession, especially since it had appeared to be quite slow earlier, but shrugged it off for now. Seeing that the wild Pokemon had collapsed from Zen's last attack, she threw the Parkball straight at Munna. The sphere shook feebly twice, then let off a small pinging sound as the capture succeeded.

<Finally...> Zen, due to taking even more damage in return, held his ground shakily. One of his opponents move, a sphere of brilliant green energy, had especially taken a toll on the Gallade; for the moment, he only wished to rest.

Maybe we should leave early, Akinai thought out loud, looking over at Zen worriedly. If he was hurt so badly after only one serious battle, and they had three left, it could end badly. Seeing Zen shake his head in reply, she sighed and pulled out one of the Energy Powder packets from her bag. As Akinai held out the packet for her partner to grab, Zen stood frozen in place looking at something directly behind her. Curious, she turned around to see what the problem was.

Barely ten feet away from them a Kirlia danced in place, apparently happy that it now had company. It faltered a moment as it saw Zen, as if it never saw a Gallade before.

“Zen, listen to me,” Akinai spoke in a low tone to the Gallade, switching to speaking out loud so he could focus on her voice. “That Kirlia is not Lia, nor is it likely that it's one that you know from your old home either.” She ripped open the packet and handed it to Zen, continuing on, “We need to get out of here. Eat that to heal up, then let's look for another way to go.”

Your Gallade is healed up majorly as you feed it the Energy Powder. As you try to walk in a different direction, away from the Kirlia, it disappears in a white light, but reappears in front of you. It twirls negligently, glaring at the both of you -- it's not going to let you escape that easily, to your misfortune. Are you going to try running again, or do you feel up for a battle now?

As Zen finished off the Energy Powder, Akinai looked about for a way to get past the Kirlia. It had gone back to its mysterious dance, so it was possible that maybe they could just walk past with no trouble at all. Akinai motioned for the Gallade to follow, pointing dead ahead, and began to walk forward- and suddenly the Kirlia was right in front of her once more, having teleported in front of them. Judging from the way the Pokemon's dancing became more frantic, it wanted them to stay and watch.

<Do we really have to do this?> Zen said, a tinge of regret clear in his tone. He never really cared for fighting any fellow Ralts evolutions, and especially not Kirlia. Plus, this Kirlia appeared to simply want someone to view her dance. While it was a shame that they could not befriend this one, the rules of this event were clear: either battle the Pokemon you wish to capture, or move on.

We could try to run away once more,
Akinai replied, sounding somewhat uneasy as well. While she was a fan of the Ralts line, she had no more room on her team for another one after capturing Lia. I really don't want to waste a Doll on this if we can't get away though. What if we run into something stronger along the way? Looking over at the Kirlia once more, she decided to take another approach to this.

“Excuse me, but we're in a hurry and need to get by,” Akinai said, facing the Kirlia. “We can watch your dance, but once it is over I'm afraid we will have to move on. Is that all right?” Zen, If she launches an attack get ready with a Night Slash, she added silently to her Gallade. While Akinai doubted the Kirlia would give them any trouble, some Pokemon could have quite a sinister personality despite the species.

The Kirlia gives a lapdance to Zen, and then allows you to pass by with very little trouble indeed. You walk on further through Meteor Valley, the clouds clouding about above you. Out of nowhere, however, a Solrock spins in your way, looking all sunny and stuff. Your Gallade telepathically mutters something to you about Kai-Mei's knickers, but he waits for your command, wondering whether or not to attack the Solrock.

Well, do you stay to fight, or do you run?

Kirlia, fortunately, agreed wholeheartedly to Akinai's offer. After giving a short performance to them she she gave a low bow, indicating that they could go on their way. Akinai politely clapped in response, and continued forward on the path.

After they had traveled for a few short minutes, Zen immediately halted in place, as if listening to something from far away. <Stop. I think you should see this,> he said, his mental voice alternating from slight amusement to outright shock.

Hm? What is it, Akinai replied, looking about. The area looked deserted as far as she could tell, though the feeling that she was being watched that she had felt ever since entering this area was still present. I take it you feel that presence as well?

<More then that, but I can see him,> Zen responded, then held out a blade-arm to Akinai. <Look...>

As soon as Akinai took hold of the Gallade's hand, the world around them appeared to shift backgrounds. After a moment, their surroundings took the form of a shimmering room, with a shadowy figure typing away at a computer screen. Judging from the snickering and the tone of voice, Akinai felt it was safe to assume that it was a male and was highly amused at the moment. A couple minutes later another figure entered the room and glanced over at the computer screen. This figure, female judging by the voice, didn't take well to what was on the screen.

“A lapdance? Really? What in all the nine hells, Buoy...”

The seated figure responds, but is cut off early with a wave of a hand.

“And what's this about Kai's knickers? Akinai's going to be ultra confused with this. And furthermore, about your run...”

The scene fades out, and both Akinai and Zen blink dazedly about a moment as they absorb what was just seen. “What in the world was that, and how did that person know my name?” Akinai finally asked out loud, hoping that some omnipresent figure knew the answer.

<Your guess is as good as mine,> Zen replied. <You may want to stop looking about though, that Solrock is starting to wonder if we're insane.>

Akinai, who had been more worried about how these two people appeared to be writing their current story, had not even noticed the Solrock approach. Let's just keep moving, she said to Zen, switching back to their mental link.

Still a little confused, you try to make your way past the Solrock. However, the rocky thing spins in front of you like a lunatic on lunatic tablets, i.e. in a way full of lunacy. It stares at you dangerously, obviously not wanting you to go past next. Hey, at least this thing won't give lapdances, am I right?

Do you try to flee again OR WHAT?

Seeing that Solrock was completely determined to not let her and Zen pass, Akinai took a deep breath and silently counted to ten, determined to not let this floating rock creature lose her temper. Great, now we're worse off than before. Even though I'm pretty sure these things don't evolve, it looks stronger than that Kirlia we just passed. Even though she was nearing her five Pokemon encounter limit, she had no desire to capture a Solrock.

<Should we use force this time?> Zen queried, giving an unimpressed look at the Solrock. So it could float around, big deal; he could make rocks do that as well, so it didn't seem like such a great power. Still, it looked rather sturdy.

Akinai shook her head and stepped forward, trying to get around the Solrock once more. If it was still determined to block her path she had a free hand in her pack, holding on to the lone Pokedoll they had all received at the start of this event. While she was wanting to save the Doll for a quick getaway in case they wan into another Gallade or something, they were almost done anyway. If bad got to worse, she was determined that she could have Zen go all-out if there was only a single opponent left.

You try making your escape once more, but Solrock spins in your way once again, glaring at you. It appears that it really does want a battle, even if you do not. Zen looks threateningly towards the creature, but the rock-like being is unperturbed by the intimidating glance. So, seeing that you can't escape by normal means, you decide to rely on your Poké Doll. Lobbing it at the Solrock, it gets hit across the face with the plushie. Picking it up through psychic power, the Solrock grudgingly floats away. You continue on, but before long, you come across an intimidating creature with THREE HEADS. It (or they) looks down upon you, floating in the air. Its hand-faces snap at you dangerously. Do you want to stay to battle, or flee from the creature?

Unfortunately, the Solrock appeared to be adamant upon battling Zen, hovering firmly in place and moving whenever one of the two attempted sidling past. Sighing, Akinai lobbed a Doll forward... only to have it smack the wild Pokemon full-on in the face. It still managed to have the same effect as always somehow; the Solrock grudgingly moved to the side, levitating its new prize in front of it.

Think we'll ever discover just what draws wild Pokemon to such strange toys?
Akinai asked rhetorically as they rushed past, the thought crossing her mind every time she used a Doll to escape. She could understand if the Pokemon was a Cleffa or something, but to see such a stoic Psychic-type like Solrock act in the same manner was both strange and amusing.

Zen simply shrugged in response, <No idea, but they just seem like a normal doll to me.> Before the Gallade could add more, he looked to the side and froze once more, then shifted to a battle stance, <We got company!>

Akinai looked over as well, and violently swore under her breath. Hovering less than fifty yards away was the imposing form of a Hydreigon, all three of its heads staring straight at them. Judging from the low growl it was emitting at the moment, it was clearly not happy to see them.

Fantastic, just what we needed. Akinai owned a Hydreigon actually, but rarely used the creature due to it being almost as disobedient as Magi, her Spiritomb. While this would be her fifth and final encounter, she really did not want to spend the rest of the day trying to capture this Pokemon. Let's try to just head on out. If it blocks our escape, power yourself up with a Swords Dance and finish it off with Close Combat. That should make short work of it.

The Hydreigon stares you down further, but you ignore it, full of swag. You turn slightly, and barge straight past that Hydreigon. That'll teach it who's boss. You pass it easily, your hips waggling like some kind of geriatric Mick Jagger, although I don't know what he has to do with anything. I have to say, though, he has a massive mouth. In any case, you swag off like some kind of hipster into the sunset, your Gallade by your side.

    Dat a$$.
