This would be my final run through the Enigma Ruins for this event. Being my fifth run here in a relatively short amount of time, I was sort of sick of the place, but it was my job so I sucked up going there and readied my equipment. The person who I was taking into the Park was a well traveled trainer, one who had many Pokemon and badges. I wasn’t sure if had tackled the Elite Four or if that was a goal of his, but if he wanted to I saw sure he could provide a good fight for that strong group of trainers.

The three Pokemon he was taking into the park were powerhouse, except for Golduck, and this team could give any trio of Pokemon a fine battle. Coupled with his skills I knew that this Park run wouldn’t give him any trouble, especially since we would only be running into basics.

My role would be just to guide him about, he knew the park well enough. Long as he didn’t break any rules this would be an uneventful trip for me. I plugged the last of the run information into the central computer, and donned my equipment. I went over to the teleporter and teleported to the entrance to the Ruins.

I usually liked to use Alakazam to teleport about, but I had decided that I would give him some extended rest and was using the park teleporters until he was ready. As usual, I arrived at the gates early. I pulled up his park file and waited for him to arrival.

"HAHAHAHAHAHA. IT IS I, NEON!" A voice boomed from the horizon, "YOU THOUGHT THIS PLACE WAS THROUGH. IT WON'T EVER BE CLOSED UNTIL I'M THROUGH WITH IT."

The voice came from the average trainer walking to the gates. He really had no reason to be yelling and being all serious like he was. In fact, he really had no room to talk being late to his appointment. In fact, he was pretty late. He wasn't even sure if his ranger would be there for him or if he would even showed up, but he pressed on just the same. He had at one point been excited to get this thing going, and he was going to see it through to the end. What kind of basics would he run into? Would he get something cool and nifty? Neon certainly hoped so. He fixed his belt and the pokeballs faceted to it, and adjusted his pack with all of his park gear on it. He was excited as he finally came upon the gates to these peculiar ruins. He looked around and saw what appeared to be a skeleton wearing ranger gear. He hoped that wasn't an ominous sign, found a nice rock, and took a seat to wait for whoever would be taking him through on his adventure.

The ground exploded beneath me as I flew directly into the park before the trainer I had to take.

"I am here to eat bacon, and take you through the park, and at the rate you move through here I'll be dead from all the bacon I'd eat...so, good seeing you again Neon!" I said, extending my hand to be shook.

Was the grand entrance really that necessary? my Gardevoir asked me. She was the one behind my flying in as she used her psychic powers to do so.

Why yes, yes it was.

"Alright, Neon, you know the deal. I'm Eric, obviously not like we haven't met over the past five years. Now you run into twenty Pokemon in their lowest form and can battle and leave with four of them. You know this special event was suppose to end years ago...how did you survive in here this long? Eh never mind its not important, lets get going," I said, as I opened the front gate, which apparently wasn't dusted in the past three years.

We walked directly inside, and the Enigma ruins appeared to take on the form of the Abandoned Power Plant. Well either that or we somehow just randomly walked into an old building due to time warps.

As we started to walk down the main hall, I could feel the electricity in the air, and it was messing up my hair, and making me all statically like I was an Electric-type Pokemon.

After walking for about five minutes a little Water-type Pokemon walked down our way, it was either very courageous or very dumb to be hanging around in a place like this, because even if it mostly just looked like the Power Plant, and wasn't actually there, well the area no doubt took on some effects of the actual place, I mean look at my hair!

It was a little tadpole like Pokemon with a swirl on its stomach that was one of few Pokemon who could ultimately evolve into one of two Pokemon, rather than just one set final evolution. It was something that another trainer I was taking through the park in an alternate dimension was battling right now.

"Hey, Neon, you wanna take on this Poliwag?" I asked.

The ranger came flying in, crashing to the ground. The smell of bacon wafted through the air. Neon wasn't sure whether to be put off by it, or just strangely interested. He had always wondered how this man could somehow smell so pungently of bacon after flying through the air. Surely a breeze would blow off at least a bit of the smell, but no, this man in front of him smelled like a barbecue shop. It wasn't like this was an isolated incident, as long as he had known Eric the scent just seemed to follow.

The ranger, Eric, extended his hand after making some quips about Neon's speed. He had grown familiar enough with his own snail like approach to exploration and come to terms with it. He took the comments in stride and replied, "if at any point you want to stop and start up a picnic, I can grill up a mean bit of ribs and I'm sure I could work bacon in somehow."

Neon smiled as his ranger laughed along and conversed with his Gardevoir. He was familiar with the creature and knew that even if he didn't always hear her talking, the message was still getting across to her owner. Eric gave his whole speech about the run and what would be taking place. Neon almost paid attention. He had become a master of zoning in and out, at least enough to get the important bits. He didn't need the whole thing, I mean there were strategies to plan and clouds to watch, but he got the idea of what he would be going through.

Eric opened the gate and invited him in. Neon quickly broke out of his daydreaming and followed him in.

The ruins in front of them seemed to be ever changing. They were almost as indecisive as Neon, and didn't seem to want to settle on any final form. It wasn't until Neon could feel his hairs on end that he finally knew what was coming. The ruins finally came to rest on an almost power plant appearance. He could see the similarities to the actual park location, but he knew the little bland spots and missing details. It just felt like an awkward imitation.

While still checking out the oddly familiar but obviously foreign surroundings, Neon eventually realized that he had stopped moving. He supposed this was because his body had just gone into auto-pilot. He was just mindlessly following his ranger without really realizing which way they were headed or why. It was a good thing Eric knew how to pull his attention back in front of him, because he almost stumbled right into a wild Pokemon. The Poliwag in front of him stopped in its tracks almost as abruptly as Neon did. The Poliwag locked eyes with him and they both refused to move. The silence that hung in the air was almost too much to take, until Eric came to the rescue.

"Hey, Neon, you wanna take on this Poliwag?" Eric's questioned broke the awkward uncertainty between the trainer and the Pokemon in front of him. Both turned their eyes to the ranger, taking a few seconds to process what was happening. They both then simultaneously moved their eyes back onto the threat in front of them. One more time they looked at Eric, then quickly both jumped back and prepared for battle.

Not wanting to look foolish, Neon reached for a Poke Ball down on his belt. He wanted to pass this off as all part of the plan. There was no way he could let on that he was foolish enough to blow their chance at escaping unnoticed by absent-mindedly walking right into the threat.

"Of course I want to fight it! That's why I was so aggressive here!" Neon covered. He released his Gengar from its containment and out onto the field. The big purple ghost looked over the small blue creature. A big devilish grin spread over its face. It was ready to pull some mischief.

Neon sighed, knowing what that smile meant. He needed to be careful with his orders to Gengar, or else it would do its own thing and waste precious time. He thought over what would satisfy the creature and finally came up with a plan.

"Gengar, use Role Play to confuse the Poliwag, and then when it lets its guard down, hit with an Energy Ball!" Neon hoped for the Role Play to pay off with getting Water Absorb, but wouldn't be mad if it didn't. After all, it would help get the need to trick out of Gengar's system.

Gengar understood the command and went towards the small blue Pokemon and began molding its face to copy the image of the Poliwag.

@Neonsands Gender?

Previously on Neon's run: I arrived after Neon took two years to find his way to where the Nation Park was located. It took so long that AmericanTreeFrog went into retirement and they had to pull me from...well, I had nothing else I was doing anyway, but they still threw me at Neon.

We strolled into the park, and after another exciting eight months, Neon walked into the park and managed to run into a Pokemon instantly. A Poliwag, an interesting little Pokemon that could become a Politoed, or a Poliwrath.

And now, for more of Neon's run.

"Of course I want to fight it! That's why I was so aggressive here!" Neon answered to my question of if he wanted the Poliwag or not.

I couldn't help but think to myself how long would the battle take.

Bet you five bucks it takes longer than a standard DBZ fight I'd said to Gardevoir.

Neon sent his Gengar into battle, but before he could even do anything, Poliwag started to turn kind of red, like it had just eaten something very spicy, maybe a habanero pepper. Before I knew it, Poliwag spat out a burst of boiling hot water at Gengar, hitting it in the midsection.

"Man, the Poliwag must have been boiling that water for several months, or eaten something brutally hot, cause that Scald looked painful."

I was merely being sarcastic, because surely the heat hurt a little, but Gengar was easily several times stronger than Poliwag, and loaded with stamina so that attack didn't do much.

"Gengar, use Role Play to confuse the Poliwag, and then when it lets its guard down, hit with an Energy Ball!" Neon commanded.

Gengar seemed to understand the commanded as it nodded at Neon.

Gengar made a light appear around itself, and proceded to use some psychic powers of sorts, and in a flash of light, Poliwag was now floating in the air. It worked, Poliwag gained the Levitate ability, while Gengar gained...well to tell you the truth, I don't know which ability it gained. But if it was Water Absorb there went a big chunk of Poliwag's moves.

Poliwag seemed to enjoy hovering, but that didn't last long as Gengar charged up a green colored, natural looking ball full of energy, Energy Ball. Without a moments hesitation it fired off the attack, smacking Poliwag into the ground, causing significant damage.

"Brutal," I mumbled to myself.

That was definitely a heavy hitting move, and Poliwag stayed down for a few moments before getting up, ready to battle again, although it was now a little short on breath.

The little Poliwag got so worked up from the confrontation, that it abruptly turned red and let out a boiling blast of water. Gengar wasn't expecting the move, but easily shook it off. The sly ghost smirked at the creatures attempts. It was going to have fun playing with its food.

After receiving Neon's commands, it gladly accepted and started molding its likeness to that of the little blue creature in front of it. It copied the Poliwag's face and mimic'd its confusion and action perfectly. A bright light bathed both the ghost and the Poliwag. As the light subsided, the little water Pokemon began floating and Gengar appeared to become a little more porous.

As the tadpole delighted in its new freedom from gravity, Gengar's experience in battle showed. Not phased at all by the changes, Gengar positioned itself above its foe and launched a power green blast into the creature. This not only damaged the creature, but used its lack of gravity to cause even more damage. It blasted the Poliwag out of the air and into the ground.

Poliwag stayed down for a moment, not wanting to get back up and face more abuse like that. Eventually it realized it had no other choice, and got back up ready to fight on. Gengar delighted in the suffering and was even happier to find out it could cause more.

"Gengar, you know the drill for capture. We're not looking to finish it off, just get it low. Keep that in mind."

Gengar snickered in response. Why would it want to finish off a target it could continue to play with?

"Use Giga Drain, get some health back, then Hypnosis to put the little guy to sleep."

Gengar loved using Hypnosis. The motions, the patterns, the look of helplessness in its targets eyes. Every single time, Gengar exerted its superiority by bringing the enemy to its knees (or rather to its back).

Gengar's eyes glowed and green beams came forth from its sides. As the green beams formed into wires, they slowly wrapped around the little blue opponent. They restricted movement and sapped energy. Just as this happened, Gengar began moving its arms in a hypnotic pattern while black circles appeared between it and its target.

"Gengar, you know the drill for capture. We're not looking to finish it off, just get it low. Keep that in mind," Neon had suddenly yelled out.

"Use Giga Drain, get some health back, then Hypnosis to put the little guy to sleep."

I wasn't surprised to hear a combo like this one. Was your basic less powerful attack, and move to cause a status to make capture easier. It was park 101 there.

Giga Drain was slightly less powerful than Energy Ball, but rather than being able to cause a drop to Special Defense, it would heal half of the damage done to the users health. Now, in this case, it didn't mean much, since Gengar was almost at full health anyway, but Neon probably just wanted it fully healthy.

Gengar's eyes began to glow a shade of green as it took aim at the little Poliwag, who was still floating in the air due to the Skill Swap from their previous exchange. Gengar shot out a little energy, and then inhaled absorbing some energy, and restoring itself to full health.

Before Gengar could follow up like Neon had wanted, Poliwag mustered up whatever strength it had in its body, and prepared one final attack to launch. It fired out a powerful blast of ice, an Ice Beam, a powerful Ice-type move with a rare chance to cause a freeze. It was rather ineffective though, as Poliwag couldn't move fast enough, and so Gengar was able to block the full force of the move, and not be frozen as well.

Gengar's eyes then began to turn purple, while it started to motion around in a hypnotic pattern. Personally I'd have just done a nice dance myself, and strike a fantastic pose, but that was me.

Gengar's Hypnosis hit Poliwag head on, and knocked out the little fella. Not knocked out in the sense of unable to battle, just put to sleep.

"Hey, Neon, if you're going to capture this then now would be the best time to do so," I'd told Neon, offering a little friendly advice, that he probably already knew.

"Hey, Neon, if you're going to capture this then now would be the best time to do so," Eric chimed in after the ghost Pokemon's moves landed flawlessly. He was right, of course. The Poliwag was injured, Neon had put in plenty of thought and work, and the water Pokemon was asleep. This was a pretty solid capture chance.

"That's what I was aiming for!" replied Neon. He reached for a Parkball from his pouch and pulled it out. The tiny capsule expanded until it fit his hand. He threw the Parkball at the sleeping Poliwag.

"I sure hope this works!"

"That's what I was aiming for!" Neon replied. He went into his pouch and pulled out a standard Parkball, which was fine in this situation. After it grew to regular size, he took aim, and threw the Parkball at the severely weakened, and sleeping Poliwag.

"I sure hope this works!" Neon yelled out.

The ball hit Poliwag, and well the little fella didn't have much energy to fight back. The ball hit, and took in Poliwag. It hit the ground, and shook for only a moment before the capture was secure.

"Congrats, Neon, you've secured yourself a Poliwag! At least if nothing else you won't leave the park empty handed. I'll just hang onto this for you until you leave," I said to Neon as I placed the Parkball in my ranger bag. Didn't wanna put it in my personal bag, and mix it with my own Pokemon.

"So then, once you're ready to go we can continue, and see what else comes our way."

The park ball hit the little blue tadpole and sucked it into whatever dimension altering effects the ball had inside. The ball landed on the ground and began wiggling. Once. Twice. Thrice. Then it rested and the middle orb changed colors. This was the signal of a successful catch.

"Yahoo!" hollered Neon, obviously excited about his capture.

"Congrats, Neon, you've secured yourself a Poliwag! At least if nothing else you won't leave the park empty handed. I'll just hang onto this for you until you leave."

With that Ranger Eric collected the Parkball and pocketed it.

"So then, once you're ready to go we can continue, and see what else comes our way."

"Sounds good to me," replied Neon. He was just happy to have caught something. It felt like years since he originally arrived, and to finally have some result to show for it, he was on cloud 9.

Neon then returned Gengar to his ball, and found his spot behind his Ranger. He was excited to see what he would run into next.
