    Ranger: Trainer Sara
    NBP #1

“Ms. Sara, we’ve got a new Trainer wanting to go through the Ruins,” one of the senior Rangers said as he poked his head into my office. I looked up from the paperwork I was doing and waved him in. The young man trotted to my desk and tossed the application form down, which I picked up and quickly went over. “This is her first visit to the Park.”

“Huh, that’s new. Most Trainers pick a specific area for their first few visits,” I said, mostly talking to myself. “They tend to be a bit intimidated by the idea of running into anything the Park has to offer. It should be interesting to see how this turns out.” The Trainer’s name was Natalie Sparkle and, according to the Bio section of the application, she was a pretty big name in the world of Contests. I’d never been much for Contests personally, either participating or watching, so the name wasn’t familiar to me. She was bringing in a Skitty with an impressive number of moves, as well as a Jellicent. I nodded absently as I committed everything to memory, then stretched and stood up. The Ranger eyed my paperwork for a moment before asking, “Do you want someone to finish that?”

“Eh, it doesn’t really matter,” I replied. “It’s mostly just signing off completed-run forms to approve the Pokemon Trainers are leaving the Park with. If no one wants to spend another hour doing it, I can finish when this run is over.” The Ranger waved and gathered the papers from my desk before turning and leaving the office. I chuckled and followed after him, glad to not worry about the paperwork getting finished. I’d been signing my signature long enough that not having to do it anymore, at least for the immediate future, was a relief.

I headed outside and whistled sharply. A moment later a graceful orange-cream Dragon burst from the water, spiraling into the air and flinging drops of water from her body as she did. She then dove and landed in front of me, preening as she shook the excess water from her wings. I chuckled at the Dragonite’s show and patted her chest, enjoying the mild weather.

“We’re going to be heading to the Ruins as soon as our Trainer gets here,” I told her. The Dragonite cooed merrily; runs to the Ruins tended to last longer than normal runs did, which meant she had more chances to show off and generally live up to her sassy nature. For now, though, we waited for Natalie to arrive.

“I don't know why they keep scheduling me for these dumb reality shows.” I shouted as I brushed her short blonde pink tipped hair while talking to my manager on the phone. “What is this one of those stupid survival show or something, I thought I told you I wanted to do SERIOUS TELEVISION!” I quickly slammed my pink and white rhinestone flip phone and continued to brush my hair as I awaited for the limo to arrive and take me to the set of the show.

The limo arrived a few minutes after my phone call and I was on my way.

“I swear my manager is losing his job after this show,” I said to myself as I entered the black limo. “He knows I only ride in pink vehicles dammit.” The limo wasn't as elegant as some of the stuff I had been in before and it sort of made sense though because I was doing a standard cable network reality TV show and not a high paying movie or a TV series.

When I arrived at the outpost I noticed a girl was standing outside of the building with a large orange and cream dragon with small green wings, the Pokemon was a Dragonite and I could tell that it had a sickening sassy personality by the way it gracefully moved around its trainer. Suddenly the limo came to a halt. The trainer with the Dragonite stopped what she was doing and walked over to the limo as I got out.

“You probably already know who I am, because well who doesn't?” I said confidently as I gracefully flipped my hair with my right hand. “Are you doing the show too?” I asked confused while I wrapped and adjusting my silk Gucci scarf and put on my Dolce and Gabbana heart shaped sunglasses. "You don't really look like the celebrity type..."

I didn’t have to wait long for my Trainer to arrive, going over to meet her when she did. Seagem took one look at the young woman’s rather…extravagant outfit before snorting in derision. I chuckled at her and patted her side.

“You probably already know who I am, because, well, who doesn't?” Natalie asked as she flipped her hair. She didn’t give me a chance to reply before adding, “Are you doing the show too? You don't really look like the celebrity type..." As she spoke, she adjusted an expensive-looking scarf and donned a pair of heart-shaped sunglasses. I did my best not to chuckle, somehow managing to keep a straight face. Those sunglasses looked absolutely silly.

Show…? What is she talking about? Hmmm, maybe that’s just what she’s calling her visit? I thought. I then smiled at the woman, deciding to worry about it later. I glanced over at Seagem as she took flight with a graceful twist of her body and beat of her wings; always the show-off, that one. She spiraled upwards until she was several dozen feet above us before circling. I shook my head and looked back down at my Trainer.

“Well, of course I know who you are. I wouldn’t be a very good Ranger if I didn’t commit your Park application data to memory, would I?” I then waved a hand absently. “As for being a celebrity, I wouldn’t go that far. I’m famous in a way, since I do run the Park here, so I’m always on TV and doing stuff for the media, but I’m hardly a celebrity for it.

“Anyways, my name is Trainer Sara, and I’ll be leading you through your visit to the National Park today. Feel free to call me Trainer or Sara, I don’t mind either way. Now, whenever you’re ready, we’ll get going to the Ruins. I can either have Seagem fly us there, or we can take a warp pad or get Teleported there. Whatever you’re most comfortable with works.”

“Well, of course I know who you are. I wouldn’t be a very good Ranger if I didn’t commit your Park application data to memory, would I?” The weird looking trainer said as she shook her hand around pointlessly. I didn't remember submitting any applications but I figured my manager had something to do with that, so I shook my head in agreement. “As for being a celebrity, I wouldn’t go that far. I’m famous in a way, since I do run the Park here, so I’m always on TV and doing stuff for the media, but I’m hardly a celebrity for it.” She stated, but to be honest I hadn't been paying attention due to the fact that I hadn't been mentioned in that sentence so I just smiled and stared blankly at her. I quickly came back to my senses as she began to talk again.

Whatever you’re most comfortable with works.” I guess Sarah had been reading off of a script because it seemed as if she had said the same phrases to others. The cameras in this area had been hidden very well because throughout this whole conversation I hadn't noticed anything out of the ordinary.

“Uhmm, Well, If you really did commit my application to memory, it should have said somewhere on there that I get nauseous and dizzy when I teleport places, so I guess we have to fly, as much as I hate that too. Lets just get this show on the road."

“Uhmm, Well, If you really did commit my application to memory, it should have said somewhere on there that I get nauseous and dizzy when I teleport places, so I guess we have to fly, as much as I hate that too. Let’s just get this show on the road,” Natalie said. I frowned a bit, then shrugged and waved for Seagem to come back down from where she was circling.

“Sorry, but the application didn’t mention anything about that.” Someone else must have filled it out for her, then, and submitted it on her behalf. It hardly mattered, since we had a run to get underway. Seagem landed with a strong backlash of wind at that moment, causing our clothes to flap about for a moment. She held her head haughtily but offered her back to us, holding her wings out so they wouldn’t get in the way. Since Natalie didn’t like flying it didn’t seem as though she’d be able to mount up, so I gave her a hand before climbing on the Dragonite’s back behind her.

Despite her own bulk and carrying the weight of two other people, Seagem was as agile and quick as ever once airborne. It only took perhaps eight or ten minutes to reach the Ruins; with a slow and practiced ease, the Dragonite spiraled lower and lower until she landed with a flourish of her wings. We dismounted and the Dragon regally folded her wings against her back, looking pleased with her gentle landing. I chuckled and thumped her side affectionately.

“Thanks a bunch, Seagem. You were great, just like always.” Seagem gave a satisfied trill at the praise, her tail swishing through the air. She gave Natalie a look before striding towards the curving stairway leading down to the entrance of the Ruins. A few graceful leaps and she was standing near the door. I shook my head and smiled, waving for Natalie to follow.

“The steps are a bit steep and worn, so be careful,” I warned her. “We’ve been getting so much traffic here that we haven’t had any time to repave them yet.” A few minutes later we were standing in front of the doors of the subterranean lab; they slid open with nothing more than a faint pressurized hiss. We headed inside, Seagem leading the way, and the doors quietly slid shut behind us. Before us lay a long, wide hallway, with smaller halls branching off on either side. There were also numerous doors, but I ignored those. The main hallway (as well as many of the rooms) resembled nothing more than a large cave, but there was high-tech stuff in the entire lab.

“All right, well, a warning before we go too much farther,” I said, drawing our little group to a halt. “The Ruins can change any time to replicate any other area of the Park. There’s usually a sound or some sort of weird shimmer effect that happens before the shift, but there are times when it happens without warning. Just a heads-up; it startles people when they aren’t expecting it.”

I’d barely finished speaking when a faint grinding noise started to echo around us. It sounded like a rock slide that was so far away it was nearly inaudible. All around us the Ruins started to change; the cavern-like surroundings took on a more urban appearance, resembling the dimly-lit halls of the Abandoned Power Plant. I glanced around and quickly spotted the Pokemon that had been teleported into the Ruins; it was a red-and-white sphere, idly rolling about. Apparently the Voltorb had triggered the warp pads in the floor of the Plant.

“The Ruins only shift in response to a Pokemon that’s being brought in from that respective area,” I explained. “They change a few seconds before the Pokemon is wrapped in. For example, that Voltorb must have activated a warp pad in the Plant somewhere. When it did, the Ruins responded by creating an exact replica of the area Voltorb was in last. Once that was done, Voltorb was brought here. It helps cut down on the stress of observing a Pokemon; most of the time they never realize they’ve been taken from the real area.” The Electric Pokemon, hearing my voice, spun to face us. It didn’t appear overly fearful or aggressive, but rather curious. After all, we hadn’t been around just a few seconds ago. “Anyways, interested in adding a Voltorb to your party?
