My pager beeped, and I smiled. Work was really picking up lately and I was happy the Park was growing in popularity again.

Checking my Pager, the screen showed me the details of my trainer. His name was James, and he wanted to go to the Powerplant. This run was already off to a good start. I loved the powerplant and all the electric pokemon inside. I had yet to see a legendary though, which is what I really wanted to do before I retired.

Grabbing my bag and hat, I headed out the door. The Power Plant wasnt too far from the HQ, so I decided to walk there. After a short walk, I arrived at the front gate.

I pulled a red and white pokeball off of my belt, and released the pokemon inside.

A bat hovered in the air in front of me. A gliscor that I called Gleam. "Powerplant today girl, you ready?" I asked the bat. She nodded quickly in agreement, and we waited for James.

The walk up the big ass hill wasn't so bad. In fact, maybe I was even getting fitter! Those months of binge eating ice cream sandwhiches and fast food, oh and Netflicks, were't slowing me down. Still, the fresh air and the thought of a new run in a very familiar place was exciting. Before I had my eyes on the Electric types but this time I was out looking for some elusive nornal types.

As I approached the front gate I saw a young man and a very familiar looking Gliscor hovering by his side. I released my adorable little Kecleon from its Pokeball and it rushed up to greet the familiar Gliscor and our new ranger.

"Howdy," I shouted over, watching Kecleon rush ahead excitedly.

I saw my trainer come over the hill, and I had to chuckle. I never even put name amd face together, James was Gleams original trainer. James release a green-lizard pokemon known as a Kecleon. Kecleon and Gleam rushed to greet eachother and I walked over to James.

    "Howdy!" James shouted to me.

"Well hey stranger!" I joked, shaking James's hand. I barely had said that before Gleam was hugging James. I just laughed some more, and looked towards the power plant. Sliding my Ranger Card through the scanner, the large gate swung open, and we walked inside.

I opened the door to the Power Plant itself, and we walked into a fairly well lit rooom due to the windows. I looked around at all the machines and parts scattered around, and heard a scuffling behind one. A figure jumped out in front of us, and stared at James' Kecleon.

The pokemon was yellow with fur all over, and had a blue orb on its tail. I turned to James. "Looks like this Mareep wants to battle you," I said.

No sooner had we shook hanks than the Gliscor seemed to recognise me and rushed on over. It was like a big family reunion! I couldn't help but feel in good spirits and optimistic for this run through the park after that little reunion. Although my time with Gleam was short, it was nice to know I wasn't forgotten.

We stepped on through the main entrance as the ranger unlocked the door. The first room was dimly lit and appeared to be empty at first glance, but then I saw a little fluffy Pokemon.

"Looks like this Mareep wants to battle you."

"If we were later on in the day I definitely would! Right now I have my mind set on other things. Let's try and mosey on by but I can purchase a pokedoll if needed! Oh and do you mind if I use my Porygon Disk in the Pokeplayer?" I said withdrawing the disc and Pokeplayer. I also had $4,210 on me if I needed to purchase a pokedoll.

Ooc: EXTREMELY short post, but not much happened sooo

James said he did not want to battle the small sheep, and I couldnt blame him. I began to walk to the side of the sheep but it jumped in front of me, not wanting to let me by.

I turned to James and gave him an apologetic look. "Looks like your either gonna have to battle or use a doll," I said.

Just as we were about to try and get by the Mareep it jumped out at us. I saw sparks fly from the charged up wool and knew better than to try and sneak by it again.

"Looks like I'll have to buy a pokedoll!" I said, handing my new ranger the 500$ required to buy a pokedoll. This left me with a measley $3,710 but it would do for now. "Once we get by I'd still like to use the Porygon disk," I added.

James decided he would buy a doll, and handed me the money. I shoved the money into my bag, and tossed a doll to the sheep. It bent down and picked up the doll, running off with it.

"There we go," I said. James then pulled out a pokeplayer and put a porygon disc in. The player emitted a high pitch noise, and almost immediately, the electronics in front of us began to make weird sounds.

I smiled, I had never seen a pokeplayer work before. A small blue and pink duck-like pokemon floated towards us.

"Gon-Porygon" the pokemon said. I knew that James wanted this pokemon, and I knew I was gonna see a good battle.

"Well, there ya go," I said to James.

Reluctantly the ranger handed me the pokedoll in exchange for money. Money can be exchanged for goods and services rang through my head, a wise saying a wise man once told me, but now was not the time for that. I felt a pang of guilt as I looked at the Igglybuff doll for half of a second. Its huge round eyes, bouncy curl and round body gave it a very cute appearance, but that wouldn't last long I knew. With a deft turn of hands, I flung the little Fairy type doll at the irate Mareep.

The pink fluffball soared through the air for no more than fractions of a second before the Mareep leaped up like some ravenous Pokemon, mouth open wide and surprisingly sharp teeth for a herbivore exposed. The Mareep caught the doll easily and landed neatly. It gave us one final fleeting growl before attacking the poor doll. I watched, frozen by a mixture of horror and fascination as the passive sheep Pokemon tore the innocent baby doll apart piece by piece.

"Must be something in the water," I muttered beneath my breath as we hurried from the room.

We left the room, myself and the ranger being the two humans while our reunited Pokemon tagged behind. I couldn't help but notice how Kecleon kept looking up at Gleam the Gliscor with admiration. Those two Pokemon did share a page on my forum stats for however long I had them, which truly wasn't all that long. As we passed into the slightly better lit corridor I whipped out the Pokeplayer without hesitation. I was pretty sure we were safe from Mareep in this room and I wanted to try my hand at attracting some of the Pokemon that I was looking to capture in this place before swarms of random things attacked. I placed the shiny vinyl disk into the '80s style Pokeplayer and, while wondering how unadvanced and old timey the pokeplayers were, I hit the play button.

The disk whirled and a loud metallic cry came out. It sounded very inhuman, yet man-made, if that made any sense. I wasn't entirely sure if the sound was still playing or if it was just echoing repeatedly through the very narrow corridor when a burst of light materialised before us. I raised my hands to shield my eyes immediately - I had been to the plant enough times to know that electrical faults were all too common, and obviousy very dangerous.

But, this light was different. I advanced towards the glimmering reds and blues as a Pokemon materialised seemingly out of nowhere.

"Gon Gon Porygon!" it cried, a little alarmed to us too perhaps. This little cry was music to my ears though.

"Just what we're looking for," I cheered. "Kecleon, buddy, come on up and let's try teach this Porygon a thing or two with your newfound Protean ability. Kecleon, I want you to hit it with a Rock Tomb to encase it and slow it down, and then when you think it's slow enough, I want you to charge forward and slam into it with a Brick Break! That sound prevent it setting up any screens on us if all goes to plan."

Kecleon stretched out her tongue menacingly before hopping back and forth on each foot, taunting the opposing Normal type Pokemon. Kecleon was a prankster and it loved to enrage the opponent into making foolish decissions.

I thought this was a pretty good strategy, slowing down the Porygon before full om attacking it. I sat dowm on a rusty metal box to watch the battle, while Gleam hovered out of sight near the roof.

Kecleon ran forward, chamging colors as he ran. Green faded to browd as the lizard picked rocks up off the floor and threw them at Porygon. The duck managed to dodge most the rocks, but one clipped it, slowing it down.

Porygon didn't hesitate to fire right back. Gathering a small triangle of energy in fromt of its face, it quickly shot the beam. The energy collided with the lizard, but due to Kecleoms typong it didnt do much damage.

Kecleom, jumping back to his feet, ran towards the Duck, changing to a reddish-brown color. As it neared Porygon, it began repeatedly hitting the duck all over too quickly for me to see. The Porygon let out a digital sounding cry, then stared down Kecleon, waiting for the next move.

On command, Kecleon gave me a look and nodded, clearly aware of what she had to do. I watched eagerly ad her tail uncurled slowly and become as pointed as a ruler for a brief spell, before it shot back into its naturally curled position. I couldn't help but smile at Kecleon, she was truly such an unusual Pokemon with so much potential. Few trainers ever gave her species the chance.

Her body was badly beaten, not even the inter-changing Protean colours could mask the blue and black bruises that covered her body. I initially took her for dead, strapped to the cold metal bench that she had been kept on for so long. But, this one was a fighter. A lone toe twitched, and, a little shell-shocked, I rushed forward.

Most of the paramedics were busyin the other rooms dealing with the aftermath of the fire. The smell of those poor burning carcasses was a horrific rubbery stench that I could never forget. But, this one might still be able to be saved. My hands held her now-whimpering body in place as I cut the straps shackling her with one of the provisional knives. She shuddered at my touch, body dramatically changing from blue to red to teal to every colour suddenly. She had learned that human touch always preceded pain and punishment.

Stroking the damaged and crumbling scales on her head, I whispered that it would be okay. Everything would be okay, I hoped. The sprays stung and the bandages probably felt just as constrictive as the straps that she'd been covered with for so long. But, she didn't lash out or cry out in pain. The terrified look in those bloodshot eyes soon turned to a distant state, like she was trying to escape reality. It was probably a coping mechanism: escaping to a world of her own when they hurt her with their machines. Her species was great at adapting to adverse environments after all.

Rushing forward, Kecleon's body dulled to a slighter brown as she scooped up some of the rubble that had come from a collapsed roof sometime ago. Swinging her arms in a graceful yet powerful arc, she flung the debris at the Porygon. Most of the makeshift rocks sailed past Porygon but one struck it hard in the center. Porygon grunted and seemed a little winded. Kecleon should be able to outspeed it now.

Porygon did infact retaliate like I thought it might. A triangular beam of red, white and yellow light burst forward and crashed into Kecleon. Her tough rock type exterior meant she could easily shrug off the damage as her body morphed once more. Her hands curled into fists as her body took on a very generic martial arts pose. All those karate lessons must be paying off because the Kecleon jumped forward with power and grace, smashing a fist into the Porygon.

As Kecleon hopped back towards me, I tried to formulate a plan. Porygon could learn some awful tricky moves, but it was hard to know whether this particular Porygon knew them or not, or even what its battling style was like as it hadn't done a whole lot so far. Still, it was better to play it safe rather than regret it later, better safe than sorry right?

"Kecleon, I want you to utilise your Magic Coat move that the tutor taught you first."

When using Magic Coat, Kecleon would set up a temporary invisible screen that would reflect back non-damaging attacks such as Toxic and Swagger. If Porygon decided to use those moves, it would have to suffer the consequences itself, rather than havinf Kecleon have to suffer through it. If we could inflict a status ailment on Porygon, it would definitely be for the better as that made it easier to capture. It'd be perfect if we could avoid status ourselves in the mean time.

"When you have a Magic Coat established, I want you to..." I paused, thinking. It was always a wise idea to look at the particular playing field to draw inspiration. The narrow corridor had some kind of electrical machinery off to one side, firin off sparks all the while. A luminescent light above was flickering at a semi-regular pace, and the constant pitter patter of rain droplets against the floor panels hinted that there was a leak in the roof. This gave me an idea.

"Kecleon, I want you to make yourself into the Water type with your Protean ability. The dripping water should help to focus you if you can brush against it as it falls, but that isn't too important. Then, I want you to slam into the Porygon with your powerful Aqua Tail attack. But, I want you to try and harnass some of the electricity around the room and smack it into Porygon! If you can get it wet from the Aqua Tail, then the electricity should do quite a number to Porygon, and maybe even paralyse it!"

It was a bit of an unorthodox strategy, but I was sure that Kecleon could pull off the Aqua Tail and Thunder Punch combination. If all goes well it should do a number to the Porygon.

OOC: Sorry for the delay, been a hectic couple of days.

"Kecleon, I want you to utilise your Mirror Coat move the Move tutor taught you.Kecleon, I want you to make yourself into the Water type with your Protean ability. The dripping water should help to focus you if you can brush against it as it falls, but that isn't too important. Then, I want you to slam into the Porygon with your powerful Aqua Tail attack. But, I want you to try and harnass some of the electricity around the room and smack it into Porygon! If you can get it wet from the Aqua Tail, then the electricity should do quite a number to Porygon, and maybe even paralyse it!" James yelled.

My brain took a second to process what he told Kecleon to do. I knew the Magic Coat was to protect from any status moves the Porygon may use, but I wasnt sure anout the rest. Oh well, only way to learn would be by watching.

The green lizard ran forward, arms outstretched, gathering energy. It created an invisible barrier between itself and the duck pokemon. Next, Kecleon used its protean ability to change into the water type, focusing on the water dropping from the ceiling to change.

The lizard ran to a broken machine and shoved its fist down into the broken wires, gathering electricity around its arm and eventually, its whole body. The Kecleon ran towards the Porygon, swinging its tail around.

The electric filled water tail hit the duck pokemon, and Porygon flew backwards, hitting a wall. Trying to get back up, electricity crackled and Porygon fell back to the ground. I knew that this meant Porygon was Paralysed, and James' plan had worked.

Pay attention, damnit, James! You always zone out at the worst of times! Who knows how long you've been distracted from this battle for...

I gave my head a quick shake to just wriggle off any distractions that I'd had; I needed to focus on this battle. Although it felt like this started an eternity ago, there was still a way to go yet. I smiled as Kecleon began the movements he was instructed to do. His beady eyes narrowed as he focused on the constant dripping of water from the rusted pipe overhead. His scales began to twitch a little at first, before they started to shine. As they shimmered, they seemed to adjust slightly and I noticed gill-like appendages forming as scales moved and remodelled themselves along Kecleon's abdomen.

    drip... drip... drip...

Clenching his now-webbed claws together, Kecleon darted towards a worn-down machine nearby, slashing at the wires. Sparks began to fly as Kecleon suddenly leaped towards the Porygon, spinning rapidly in the air. His long tail uncurled and struck into the opposing Pokemon, knocking it back a little. Landing delicately on the ground, Kecleon retreated backwards instinctively, sparks tumbling from his body now. It appeared as though Kecleon has become the Electric type. What's more, though, was that blue sparks seemed to be coming from the weakened Porygon. It gave a little twitch. While Porygon's evolution could have Trace as a special ability and could thus copy Kecleon's Protean, normally Porygon could not do such a thing. It didn't look as though Porygon had used Conversion or Conversion too, either. This was good news.

"Well done, Kecleon. It looks as though our plan worked and Porygon took a bit of damage. More importantly, it looks as though we managed to inflict some status ailment on it too! We should have no problem weakening it now!" This was good news. I'd had a lot of experience using Porygon's evolutions in my gyms throughout the years, so I knew just how powerful the Porygon family were. In fact, Porygon-Z, I could have really brought with me. Since the invention of Z-moves, I'd really started to appreciate this cyber duck more. I mean, it was always pretty amazing, but it's nice when old dogs learn new tricks, eh?

"Okay, Kec. Since Porygon looks like it's going to stay Normal type for the time being, why don't we use some Super Effective Fighting type moves? Let's try using Brick Break!" This move tended to be used more in response to an opponent setting up reflect or light screens as defensive measures, but I didn't really see any harm using it pro-actively. If Porygon did set up screens, they would quickly be disposed off, and if not, a powerful Fighting type move from a Fighting type Pokemon should work wonders. It was generally a simple rapid clenched-fist punch or jab but the move could manifest differently depending on the situation. In fact, when a light screen is shattered, the shards of glass tend to pierce the Pokemon that set it up, damaging them slightly, or possibly even causing them to flinch momentarily.

It wasn't all that long ago when I first taught Kecleon the move. God, he was awful at it. I mean, how hard can it be to just jump n the air, and then land down on the opponent with a karate chop motion? Okay, to be fair, it was probably mostly my fault for having him start chopping wrecks with his little scaley hands, but that had already worked for Electivire, so I wasn't a complete monster. I remember after Kecleon smacked the side of his palm, fingers ressed together and straightened out, into that stone, how much he jumped back, wailing incoherently, with the pain. I did feel mostly guilty, but it was also a little funny. When we moved to practising on thin sheets of wood, he got a lot better, very quickly. In fact, he was soon diving through the air, karate chopping foes mid-leap, before finishing with a graceful tumble and hopping back up into a fighting stance. But, we had to stop the tumbling pretty soon after. It's quite the pain trying to scrub dust out of those damn scales...

Although, Porygon could always use recover and heal up... undoing all that hard work. Okay, that could actually be pretty awful. Should probably try and see how I could put a stop to that.

"Alright, Kecleon, actually." With both eyes still locked on the Porygon, currently crumpled up in the corner, twitching, Kecleon tilted his head towards me; his ears pricked up. "Stick with Brick Break, but we need to keep this Porygon from becoming to healthy for the time being. Let's have a Snatch ready, just in case Porygon tries to buff itself up or heal!"

Snatch was quite the interesting, if niche, move. It varied from Pokemon to Pokemon, naturally, but usually involved the Snatcher startling the Snatchee before mimicking the movements the Pokemon would have done. It can be risky to send it first, particularly if the opponent is aware of its effects. Kecleon has used it a few times, though. One time in particular comes to mind.

It was when I had first started my journey to beat the Elite Four and ultimately become the Champion, which is really a story for another time... Anyway, it a battle against a veteran by the name of TED. Widely-feared for his short-temper and willingness to block you on social media, but a fierce battler nonetheless. I had sent this Kecleon onto the field against his scary metal spider, Metagross. Metagross was bluffing to use Hammer Arm, which could just about knock Kecleon right out before Protean had activated. I could, potentially, use Shadow Sneak on Kecleon to do some damage, but mainly to gain the immunity to his powerful Fighting type moves. But, TED also knew this. So, just before had finalised my move selection, I saw the tiniest of smirks on his face across the battlefield. Suddenly, his Metagross began to dart back and forth, each of its four limbs flexing as it weaved back and forth, rapidly getting faster.

Out of nowhere, Kecleon lunged forward across the battlefield, stopping right in front of the dancing Steel type. Metagross, mid-Agility, froze. Its movements stopped altogether as Kecleon suddenly began to hop back and forth from one foot to the next. Metagross looked down at it suspiciously, unsure of whether it should keep moving, or whether it should just crush the little reptile right then and there. It looked back at TED warily, who, by this stage, had gone a bright red colour as his frustration mounted.

"Attack him, you fool!" TED burst out!

Metagross swung one of its forelimbs forward hastily, but it was too late; Kecleon had already sprinted back to me. Eager to show off its new-found speed boosts, Kecleon began to run circles around me, grinning at the opposing Metagross with each lap. That cockiness was bound to catch up to Kecleon one day, but right then, in the heat of battle, I let him have the glory; he had earned it, after all.

Aleria stretched as she sat up in her bed that morning. It had been nice to sleep in for once. For so long, she'd woken up early to go take trainers into the park. Now that the Ranger shortage was somewhat alleviated with two new Rangers joining the ranks (thank Arceus for that), she was able to walk right up to the Head Ranger, drop her vacation papers on the Head Ranger's desk, and walk right back out the door with no questions asked, not that she'd answer any anyways. She worked far too hard for this vacation, and she'd be damned if someone was gonna take it away from her or tell her no.

No one called and no one bothered her for a good three weeks. While the dream was to go on vacation somewhere, she couldn't really afford that and feed her Pokemon, so she pretty much stayed at home, spent time with her friends and her Pokemon, and basically just did anything but work. Work called, but she more or less ignored their cries for help.

This morning though, her phone buzzed just as she was getting out of bed. She picked it up to look at it (she was going to anyways, even if it hadn't buzzed), and she ended up opening an email from the Ranger Headquarters. One of the trainers needed a new Ranger after his original one had disappeared, sent in just now. She shrugged and put her phone back down on the nightstand. Someone else could pick it up; she was, after all, on a bit of a vacation.

It was early afternoon when her phone buzzed again. Same message as this morning, only with more urgency to it. They didn't like to leave trainers out in the park alone for too long lest they get lost or injured. The Rangers knew their way around and knew what to do if they did indeed get into a sticky situation. With a sigh, she opened up her phone and responded to the message: "Tell him I'll be there in an hour or so. I'll finish this one out since no one else wants it apparently. Send the info to me."

Why they didn't want it was beyond her, but hopefully her annoyance of having to come in and help out on her vacation showed. She grabbed a jacket just in case she had to go to Mt. Oktori and went out the door. The last time she went to Oktori, she was underprepared and froze. Aleria wouldn't be doing that again.

She arrived at Ranger Headquarters within half an hour and went straight to her office. Once there, she took a quick look at her phone to see where she was headed, dropped her jacket off (because thankfully it wasn't Oktori), and set off for the Abandoned Power Plant after grabbing her bag of supplies. She arrived at the Power Plant within half an hour, and from there, it was just finding the trainer.

It wasn't too hard to find the trainer, thankfully. He was locked in battle with a Porygon and a Kecleon. Aleria wasn't sure which was which; she hadn't looked that closely at the information she'd been given, but she'd find out soon enough. She stayed in the back for a moment, waiting to approach the trainer as he was giving his Pokemon a new set of moves when she arrived.

"Alright, Kecleon, actually. Stick with Brick Break, but we need to keep this Porygon from becoming to healthy for the time being. Let's have a Snatch ready, just in case Porygon tries to buff itself up or heal!" the trainer was telling his Pokemon as she walked up. Well, that was easy. Kecleon was the trainer's, and Porygon was the opponent. Easy. Why read the documents when you can just learn by observation?

Electricity coursed through Porygon's body as it struggled to focus on the battle. Aleria watched as Kecleon's skin briefly changed from yellow to black as she prepared to snatch the duck's next move, but then no sooner had her skin turned black, it was changing colors again to be a deep brown. Protean was a fitting ability for a Pokemon based off of a chameleon; Aleria was surprised that they'd never learned about it before.

Porygon seemed to catch onto the chameleon's ability, however, as it lifted the now Fighting type Kecleon into the air with psychic energy. The chameleon, who had been running towards the cyber duck to land the Brick Break, hovered in the air. He tried to keep running for a moment, but once he realized he was suspended in the air, he stopped. Not once did she tear her eyes away from that Porygon. Once electricity coursed through Porygon's body again, breaking its ability to hold Kecleon into the air, the chameleon dropped to the ground, shook the attack off as best as she could, and ran forward to land the Brick Break. The attack knocked the poor duck back down into a heap as Kecleon moved back to stand closer to her trainer.

Now that the Pokemon were done fighting, at least for the moment, Aleria took the opportunity to step forward and introduce herself. "Hey," she said. "Heard your original Ranger disappeared on you. They sent me in to finish escorting you through here. I'm Aleria."
