The woods was a surprisingly different place since the last time Arctas had been to the ranger outpost located on the edge of the thick concentration of old oak trees. They almost seemed eerie, branches naked from the dying leaves having fallen to the ground already, with only a few vigorously enduring the oncoming cold. To him, it seemed like the best place to film a horror movie. A quick thought of hiding in order to spook the trainer he was charged with leading through the wooded area passed into his mind, but he shook his head and let the idea slip away. It was well past Halloween, and no matter how spooky it seemed, he couldn't find a good justification without seeming like a jerk. Though, there are far worse rangers employed by the park services than him, and somehow they keep their job. Shrugging, he decides to sit down on a nearby stump leftover from the building of the outpost and wait for this new trainer to show up.

Just as he sat down, his cell beeped with a message from the new Park Ranger Assistant app. Whipping out his sleek new phone and navigating to it, the message popped up immediately. "Your trainer should show up soon, or later. Possibly tomorrow. Hell do I know? - Chainy" of course James would write a useless message like that. Being technically our boss, he sure doesn't act like one. Or maybe he doesn't even know how? But then again, how is he even using this app? Last I knew, he was still using the older PDA communicators and not this newly designed app. Supposed to not be able to transfer to the old PDAs... Well, it's Chainy, so he'd figure out some way to confuse and bother the other rangers.

With that, he put away his phone and took out his partner Pokemons' - his trusty Lucario - Pokeball and started tossed it beside him. The small orb burst open with a flash of white light, which eventually gathered up and formed the shape of the Pokemon within, until it solidified into that creature. The Lucario looked over at Arctas, narrowing his eyes slightly. <It's cold out here. What are we doing, now?> The Pokemon said telepathically. Being a fighting-steel type, how he could use telepathy was beyond my logic. At least it's efficient, so Arctas couldn't complain much.

"We're waiting for a trainer to lead through the woods for some new Pokemon. It's not too cold, so just sit here with me and wait." He said to his partner, pointing to the long section of tree trunk laid down near the stump as a makeshift bench. This outpost did have it's fair share of woodsy decor, which he guessed fits. The humanoid Pokemon sat down next to him, both staring quietly down the path for signs of the trainer coming up the dirt path.

Sorry, sorry, sorry about the wait! I've had a lot on my mind recently...starting out is the hardest part for me, so I'm hoping that from here it should be high tides and smooth sailing.

    ----------------------------------
"Shit," Subayai cursed, glancing down at her phone's clock. "I can't believe I'm gonna be late!"

She would have arrived right on time, if not early, if it weren't for her stupid phone's alarm clock not doing its duty and waking her up on time; either this, or she slept right through it. Nonetheless, she was late, and she blamed her alarm "clock" for it. At least that would serve as a decent excuse....

She reflected back on her thoughts, her Flygon leading the way to the island on its back. It was cold up here...almost too cold, but fortunately Subayai was bundled up well enough. She was honestly just glad that she didn't pick a much more frigid day for this run.

She had sent her request in a week prior; however, all of the lines were already tied up, postponing Subayai later and later. In all honesty, she had almost given up all hope; but then, of course, at the most hopeless of times, she saw a light shimmer at the end of the tunnel. Finally, someone was free to take her in! It would be a few days until she would be able to go, but this allowed her to prepare in advance.

If only she hadn't woken up just a little late.

The island was in sight after approximately an hour or so; it wouldn't be long now. Subayai glanced back down at her phone: 8:00 AM. "Good," she sighed. "Right on time then."

Sakyuu slowly eased into a perfect landing, making a large impression in doing so. Subayai could see that her Ranger and his Lucario were already waiting outside the gates for her. "Hopefully they haven't been waiting too long." she worried.

Subayai leapt off of the back of her Pokemon upon arrival, said Pokemon then proceeding to nuzzle her and make an endearing "chirrup"-like sound.

"Good girl." Subayai praised, pulling a pink, cupcake-like pastry from her bag. Sakyuu squealed happily and took the Pokepuff without any hesitation.

This cute little--or not-so-little--Flygon was her very first Pokemon, so she felt she had the right to spoil the thing rotten...so long as it still behaved.

"Sakyuu, return." Subayai pulled out the dragon's Pokeball and clicked the middle button, converting Sakyuu into a red beam of energy and recalling her back in the capsule.

Subayai turned her attention to the two individuals sitting on a stump by the gates. "Hello!" She casually greeted as she approached them. "Sorry if I'm a little late. I'm Subayai; you must be my ranger, correct?" Subayai held her hand out in front of her, inviting a handshake.

@Speed-X - Sorry for the wait. Holidays are always hell for me, plus end of the semester woes. I'll be more available now, though.

Just as Arctas was ready to give up and go get an early lunch, his eyes fixated on a figure walking up the beaten path to the outpost, along with another figure that looked like a familiar Pokemon, but his mind didn't want to cooperate at the moment and remember which one it was. He shrugged off his lapse in memory as he stood up and straightened up his Ranger jacket. He still couldn't believe that management had forced rangers to wear "official uniforms" now, and he hardly complied. He had gone to a tailor friend of his and had some alterations done to it. Namely, it was now black with white accents instead of the original red with black. He also had a large Pokeball symbol stitched into the back, with the word "Ranger" written in the top half. Ontop of that, he had it lengthened to be more of an overcoat, the hem almost sweeping along the ground, an inch above his heel. It was definitely warm in this sort of weather, and was a good alteration.

"Hello!" the trainer called out to him as she came within a yard or two of him. "Sorry if I'm a little late. I'm Subayai; you must be my ranger, correct?" As she introduced herself, he folded his arms across his chest, giving her a stern look half-heartedly, before introducing himself.

"Yes, I'm Arctas. I'll be your ranger for this little expedition." He said to the shorter girl, brushing his somewhat long hair away from his eyes.

"You're lucky you showed up, I was about to leave and get some lunch. I guess we'll be on our way, then?" He asked without really asking, and pointed down a path off to the side that lead straight into the shaded woods. Looking over his shoulder, he motions for his partner Lucario to come follow at his side before he walks to the edge of the wooded area.

"Better stick close, people get lost very easily here, for numerous days before we find them. Sometimes we're not the first." He warned, obviously trying to scare the newer trainer into sticking close by him. In all actuality, no one is lost for more than a few hours, before rangers comb the woods and teleport out of there. She didn't need to know about this, though. More hype for the oncoming expedition. Life and death, all that sort of stuff.

Not too far down the path, it begins to split off in numerous directions. Most of the paths lead to the same place, but sometimes have much different Pokemon along them. One path is especially hazardous, being taken over by numerous Beedrill hives in close proximity to each other. Many people, rangers and trainers alike, have gotten badly stung by the territorial Pokemon. Hopefully she doesn't pick that path. He carries antidotes whenever he comes to the woods, but the sting is still painful and takes a lot out of you, effectively ending expeditions.

"Which path do you want to take? Most lead to the same place, but they all have their own unique quirks about them. Since the woods is mostly inhabited by bug-types, they tend to have their own territories." He informed the trainer, turning to face her. His partner Lucario didn't bother to turn, instead listening to the sounds coming from deeper in the forest, making sure nothing too dangerous takes us by surprise.

((Yay, busy-as-hell weekend over and semester over!))
    @Taither

    ----------------------------------
The ranger seemed to ignore her invitation for a handshake, and she immediately withdrew her hand back into her pocket, feeling a twinge of embarassment.

"Yes, I'm Arctas." He responded, expression firm and arms crossed. "I'll be your ranger for this little expedition." Subayai nodded in confirmation.

"You're lucky you showed up," he continued. "I was about to leave and get some lunch. I guess we'll be on our way, then?"

"Right, sorry about that." Subayai apologized. "But anyway, yeah, that's fine by me."

This ranger seemed more of a reserved type than a friendly type, so Subayai would act accordingly. She liked to make good first impressions, and in this case, she didn't want the ranger to view her as a hyperactive pep. Then again, what did it really matter; this would probably be the only time she'd see this person anyway.

The duo and the ranger's Lucario started on the path through the gates.

"Better stick close, people get lost very easily here...for numerous days before we find them" Arctas warned, a cautious tone to his voice.

A question rang in Subayai's head, but was not uttered audibly. "Wow. They really get lost for that long?"

Subayai was a little zoned out, thus no response was elicited from her. Perhaps no more than a couple of minutes down the path, the trail had forked in several directions.

"Which path do you want to take?" Arctas inquired. "Most lead to the same place, but they all have their own unique quirks about them. Since the woods are mostly inhabited by bug-types, they tend to have their own territories."

Subayai stopped and pondered for a moment; the scenery down each path all looked the same from here.

"Uhm...I guess this one," she took a step towards the leftmost path. There was something about taking the direction at the right that seemed entirely overrated to her. "That is, as long as that area isn't already claimed by hordes of Beedrill." She shuddered slightly at the thought. She could stand bugs just fine...just not super-aggressive ones with multiple, giant, venomous stingers.

@Speed-X - Sorry for the wait, getting caught up in URPG again.

    NBP#3

"Uhm...I guess this one," the trainer said to him meekly, as if not sure if she picked the right path to go down while pointing to the leftmost path.

"That is, as long as that area isn't already claimed by hordes of Beedrill." She had told him, shuddering at the thought of hundreds of Beedrill waiting to chase her through the woods. He laughed to himself, knowing that she would be quite the entertainment on this expedition. Nodding to her once he gained control over his minor giggle fit, he continued down the path, making sure to keep her close behind him.

<That was a bit mean, y'know. Scaring her with Beedrill.> His partner Lucario beamed into his mind, looking over at him from the corner of his Jackal-like eyes. <She is going to be a nervous wreck the rest of this trip.> Without physically saying anything, Arctas just thought "That's what will make this much more worth it for us if we do run into a Beedrill. Not like we can't protect her from a few giant bugs." knowing that his partner could hear him.

Without wandering too far down the path, he starts to notice that the bushes have been rustling along the left side of the path, as if following them. Stopping short along the path, he motions to his trainer, "Something must like you, its been following us for awhile now." With that, he points to the rustling shrubbery. No sooner does his finger meet the bush, does a small red and beige creature pop out from the shadows, clicking as it scampers around on multiple, suction cup like feet.

"It seems you have a stalker Wurmple. It can become a very beautiful Pokemon with enough attention. You interested?" He asks his trainer, as the little caterpillar-like Pokemon lifts itself into the air, trying to sense if we're a predator or not. "It's certainly not a Beedrill." He says, laughing to himself.
