It had been awhile since Jack had been working as a ranger. He had been gone out on a very long vacation. He was actually happy to be back at work for once. There was just one problem: a lot of the regular park comers and goers had stopped coming to the park while he was gone, there also seemed to be a few rangers that had left their jobs as rangers. It was a bummer but luckily his two favorite rangers Chainy and Ivy were still here. Those two gave him a lot of entertainment while he was here. He was glad they were still here. That said, here he was back at work, with no work to actually do. There were no runs for him and since he hadn’t had a run since coming back, that meant no paperwork. He was told that in order for him to leave he had to get all his paperwork done. He was regretting that now for he would have even loved to do paperwork. Now he found himself chin on his desk and eyes staring boredly at the back of Ivy’s head. He tended to stare at Ivy a lot except that what he liked to look at was on her front side, not the back of her head. She was busy doing some important work and couldn’t be bothered, he wished she would talk to him; it would make him less bored. He also wished any of the other rangers were here but they were all out on runs. They had all of them when he got back, which is another reason why he had nothing to do right now.

Then finally, at long last, the pretty assistant that Bee had hired a while back popped her head into the office.

“Hey, would either of you two like to take a…” She was cut off by a crash. It came from Jack’s desk. It was his chair flying backwards and landing on the ground. Next think the assistant knew was the folder with the trainer’s information was swipped from her hand and Jack was out the door.

“Thanks! I got this!” he shouted back. As soon as he exited the building he tossed a pokeball out in front of him and his Yanmega; Serenity burst from the ball. Jack quickly jumped on her back and opened the folder. He did a quick scan until he found what he was looking for.

“Alright Serenity, lets head for the The Great Lake. I need to get started on rangering again! Serenity was happy to back to work as well and took off like a bullet. Jack was used to this because he knew Serenity loved speed. He held on type and then they were on their way to The Great Lake

They landed only 15 minutes later at the outpost for the rangers. There was someone working the post there as usual and Jack nodded to him. He nodded back and then began to wait for the trainer to show up. He opened up the folder to get the name and specs on the trainer. He then walked over to the vending machine and bought himself a cola to drink while waiting for the trainer.

    Brooklyn's Non-BP: 9305 Characters (01) Total: 9305

Yesterday night was interesting, or it would be more interesting if Brooklyn could remember half of it. Who was Brooklyn? Why, she was the barely small girl who was lying on a bed bunk. The sheets to the bed were twist and turned then spread out across the bed. The display of the sheets mirrored that to if two drunks were to create New York City instead of one. Her hair covered the majority of her facing, almost looking as if her hair had consumed a whole half of her. The once dark room had a settling stream of yellow and white colored energy that surfaced onto the wooden floors. A soft breeze pushed through the small open entrance of the window to push out the curtains in order to make way over to the sleeping beauty. Brooklyn's eyebrows stirred and her arms propped up to try and grab for some hold of a blanket or two. Without any luck to grasp onto a form of protection from the morning's cool breeze, she had chose to woke up. The lids of her eyes struggled to open. No, Brooklyn didn't want to wake up. She used all her left over force to push herself off the bed then headed over to the bathroom door. On her way, the tips of her fingers tired to feel around to prevent her from bumping into anything. The chrome of light that had entered the room had a bad reaction to her eyes. Brooke wasn't adjusted to the brightness. A smell of distinguished smoke had filled Brooklyn's senses throughout her hotel room. The smoke left traces of the red rose petal candle smell she had left to lit for the majority of the night until the wind started to hit.

In the unlit bathroom, Brooklyn continued to press her hands against the objects around her until she could come to grasp what was a firm hold of a fabric. A fabric that had a slight harder solid feel than most pieces of fabric. Reaching her hands around, Brooklyn was able to touch onto a cold, hard object. For the next thirty minutes, she had jumped in the shower and then at the end of her time sequence, she had stepped out. The second her left foot had hit the ground, her slightly wet foot had started to slide forth. A squeaky sound was heard int he process and her hands had grabbed onto the metal pole that kept the shower curtain functioning. The copper red color of her semi-long hair with a touch of brown and a touch of blonde had flowed with her whisk of movement. Brooke pressed the front part of her teeth on her bottom lip as she worded out the sound of an f and then extended the rest of her enunciation with an uck. Finally, she had managed to get a better pace as she hit the light switch to the bathroom and started addressing her hair. The next twenty minutes were spent throwing on clothes, addressing her hair, and attacking her face with make-up. Brooke kicked open the bathroom door and moved over to the other door. On the side table near the entrance and exit of her hotel room was a shoulder slash bag. The periwinkle colored bag had a couple of things. Such things had included the park balls she would need today, three energy powders, the poke balls that were already occupied, things in case of emergencies relating to her needs, and what bit of money she had left.

"....I know I'm suppose to be there somewhere around or near this time frame..." Brooke said and crossed her arms. Her eyes shut and she tried to remember what time she had to be at the Park. Then there was the part where she could not recall what area she had applied for. Was it the Botanic Gardens? Well, it was a cool day today, so maybe it was that area. Brooklyn shrugged her shoulders and figured that she would find out eventually where she is suppose to go. Grabbing on the sash of her bag, she placed it on gently so that the material didn't come to run into her hair and ruin it. As usual, the front sides of her hair was clipped back with the back of her hair hanging down and her bangs flowing freely. grasping onto her shades, Brooklyn headed out and took her sweet time to head to the Park. She had smiled to herself sweetly as she acknowledged the peaches and creme smell on her. A body wash she had purchased yesterday when she went to go browsing at the shops that she used this morning. Hey, the body wash worked quite well, as her skin felt smooth and that deducted some of her morning moodiness.

Brooklyn had ignored the receptionist who was telling her good luck at the Great Lakes. Then there was the bell boy she gave the birdie to when he tried to speak to her about assisting her with her things to the Great Lakes. What she had finally gotten to was what she had craved all morning, a nice grande size of coffee. Yes, Brooklyn had more of a concern to head for the coffee shop than she did to hit the Park. Brooklyn figured that her ranger wasn't there yet at her destination either. She grabbed some money and ordered a grande sized latte from the cute little coffee place then took her time then to head all the way across town where the Park was that she would spend most likely the majority of her day at. Should she have gotten something to eat too? Brooke shrugged and figured that her Pokemon could grab her some berries. Yes, she remembered to bring their food, just not hers. More so, she didn't really have anything simple to eat and carry around as Pokemon Food. Brooke shrugged her shoulders. She'll manage to get food, whether her ranger was an ass or not.

Brooklyn had found a sort of hidden path way. the path was said to lead to the Ranger's Post. That's where she had to get to point B to reach point C. Inhaling a breath to try to calm herself, she strutted across the ground on her way to the building. From a distance, she could catch eye of the building with the signs that pointed all too perfectly to the fact that this was the correct area she was heading to. In a distance she could hear cries, cries of numerous different Pokemon. Somehow, that was a rather calming sound. A sort of familiarity that Brooklyn was very comfortable with. In contrast to her lack of ability to communicate to people because of her own attitude to people alone, she was very sweet and warming to Pokemon. Heck, she wouldn't be surprised if she was that old lady when she grew up with six Purrloin hanging on the steps to the stairs of her single-person home. Her eyes started to open more the closer she got to the building. Half of her was thrilled to finally be able to do this as she had been busy in the past. She wanted more Pokemon, although she had her hands full of two Pokemon already.

Brooke ran her fingers through her hair as she entered the building. Well, Brooke figured she'd stop here to make sure her ranger was at her destination and to confirm where she was suppose to go. Her dark brown eyes spotted the front desk with a working secretary. Walking over to the table, Brooke crossed her arms. How much time had to past until she was noticed? The secretary finally noticed or rather heard a hard tapping. What was her problem? The secretary's eyes almost looked at they gawked out. "What?" Brooklyn asked (demanded), and then leaned in, "Look, as much as I like to stand here and be treated as a stick in the mud, I need to know if my ranger is doing what he or she is suppose to do, and to confirm where I'm suppose to be, now please, do your job." Finally, after obtaining her information, Brooklyn had headed out the where her ranger was at the outpost.

"Oh," Brooklyn said, stopping short, "You're Jack." Her voice didn't hold any enthusiasm in it and had more of a disappointed tone running off of her words. "Well," Brooklyn said, grabbing one of her two Poke Balls. "Just don't do anything too stupid." Brooke had let out one of her Pokemon from their Poke Balls. Apparently, it was going to be her Sandslash who was starting first for the day. A white chrome formed the animal that walked on two legs. When the white chrome shattered, a tan colored Pokemon with colors of brown and a dark red revealed a Sandslash. The sun beamed a shine that ran over the brown spikes that made up the majority of his back. The onyx irises of his eyes glimpsed to his surroundings to take in the scenery before turning and walking with his hunched back over to Brooklyn. His arms clung to one of her legs and he curled up as close as possible.

"...He's just a little shy is all..." Brooklyn said and bent down to use all her strength she had to carry him. "...Well, are we going?" Her outfit had a definite feminine touch to it. A checkered based pattern for her dress-like torso had a greyish-purple sort of shade. Then there were slight stripes of red and green. The collar of the dress-top was hidden at her neck with a brown and grey colored, light, fabricated scarf. The sleeves of the torso Brooklyn wore covered her semi-manly shoulders and reached down to her wrists. A pair of black leggings were worn as well a pair of black shorts. What really made her outfit altogether a master piece were the pair of white stilettos she wore. Of course, there were her piercings, her overall attitude, the pair of shades she wore, and the grande sized latte she held on one of he hands. There was a lot that Brooklyn was looking forward to. Eventually Sandslash will get into his battling mood and she will eventually be facing a Pokemon that will become hes along side Hippowdon and Sandslash.

Jack had been waiting for along 30 minutes now, and it had done a spell on his patience. He had since drunk his cola and Serenity was now zipping between the ranger post and the gate as fast as she could. Finally he saw his trainer walking up to the ranger post. He was about to call back to the headquarters to find out if they had heard something.

“Oh,” she started, “Your Jack.” He could tell she was disappointed, what for he had no idea, but frankly he didn’t care. “Well,” she continued, “just don’t do anything stupid.” Now Jack was irked. Why was he going to do something stupid?

Brook then released one of her two pokemon with her, a Sandslash. It seemed timid as it hid next to its trainer. Just what Jack was hoping for, a pansy pokemon, and pansy pokemon meant boring.

“Hes just a little shy is all” she said as she bent down to pick him, Jack wondered how long that would last. “well, are we going now?” She said to Jack like he had been standing there for the last 30 minutes. To be honest he was getting a good look at his trainer while she was pampering her pokemon, he was waiting patiently for her (despite truly waiting 30 minutes for her). Jack was a little perturbed by her appearance, a trainer coming out to a park, the Great Lake no less. She was wearing stilettos and a dress top. At least she was wearing shorts with leggings underneath, he thought. The fashion scarf threw him off as well. He did not see trainers dress like this. He wasn’t going to lie this was a nice change of pace, it was easier on the eyes. But he could do without the personality radiating off of her. He knew this was not going to be one of his favorite runs. He then set to work.

“Hello ma’am and welcome to the national park. Im Jack and I will be your ranger today, that Yanmega over there shooting back and forth is one of my partners. Her name is Serenity. She then stopped racing herself and instead flew down slowly to where his trainer and the new woman were at. She came to rest next to him and placed her head under his hand. He scratched her head unconsciously and continued. Today we will be exploring the great lake. In it you will find many water pokemon. If we get lucky you might be able to spot something amazing. “Jack’s usual boredness didn’t seem to change after all these months as he didn’t show any excitement in todays usual speech either.

“Specifically for this trip you are allowed to have a fishing poll, if you have any pokemon that know surf or dive that can help you on your expedition. I will be right back.” He walked pretty chill like towards the ranger shed and returned with a fishing rod for the journey. “I can hold this for you if you’d like. Now where should we start? Would you like to stay on the bank of the lake or would you like to…” He looked at the Sandslash. “…go for a swim.” He finished.

There was some sort of awkward silence. That's the sort of signal that Brooklyn had came across. Her dark brown eyes had examined the older male who was her ranger. The girl wasn't too sure of the logistics that came with being a ranger, but there had to be more going on than just standing around. Brooke was just glad that she could at least enjoy a nice day. A couple of nice breezes had softly grazed against the skin of her cheeks. Her nose had inhaled the fresh smell of the nature that surrounded them. Of course, she had inhaled a bit of the groundish smell that Sandslash radiated. Her brown eyes switched down to her Pokemon she had chosen. He should be getting used to the other people soon. Yes, she could understand a possibility on why he'd be shy around a ranger who so far wasn't all that top notch as the pamphlet had described on all their rangers. Wait a second. Brooklyn's eyebrows raised. They were thin and had a touch of make-up. Was this guy examining her body? Her eyebrows then furrowed. Oh great, she was with a pervert. "Take a picture, I can guarantee you that it will last longer," Brooklyn said then smiled when finally they got started onto the business of her trip.

Hello ma’am and welcome to the national park. I'm Jack and I will be your ranger today, that Yanmega over there shooting back and forth is one of my partners. Her name is Serenity." The ranger, Jack, had said, introducing his Pokemon. Brooke had eased her eyebrows as she watched the beautiful Yanmega land next to her ranger's side. That Pokemon was definitely a beautiful thing and probably had a lot of great attacks too. Her lips formed into a smile that gradually went away when the ranger started talking again. Jack started to explain some things in a very bored tone, "Today we will be exploring the great lake. In it you will find many water pokemon. If we get lucky you might be able to spot something amazing. Is that all he was good for? Talking? Hey, at least soon, hopefully, she will be walking around the banks of the Great Lakes. What she noted was the unnecessary talking with statements on the Great Lakes. She hoped that a water-based area would half water Pokemon.

"Right, because I was hoping to come across fire-types in a water-based location," Brooklyn said to Jack. That was a serious problem if he had to explain how there were a lot of different water Pokemon. Of course there were a lot of different water Pokemon. A lake has water Pokemon and since it's one of the seldom few place to find water Pokemon, then that's where most people should try to find their specific water-type Pokemon.

Brooke did have a sort of hope that she may run into something amazing. Not every day could she see all types of Pokemon or especially run into rares all the way into legendaries. Though, she would never catch one. There were many reasons. One being that her Pokemon were not that strong yet to be considered to fight against a legendary. Then there's the fact that it does Earth better to have the legendaries that contribute in some way to the world to roam free instead of causing instability to the world. At some point in her life, Brooklyn had recalled reading a book on the three legendary birds: Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres. If a person were to apathetically capture one of those birds, it could cause a complete devastation. Brooklyn turned her head to stare in the direction that had pointed to the Great Lakes. There were so many possibilities for her there and many different things she could do.

She listened to Jack talk over a few things. Jack had to started to speak on what her options were in the Great Lakes. "
Specifically for this trip you are allowed to have a fishing pole, if you have any Pokemon that know surf or dive that can help you on your expedition. I will be right back. Jack had said, and Brooklyn had rolled her eyes in response. Really, a fishing rod or swimming? Hasn't he heard of stepping stones? A lot of times there are Pokemon that hang at the edge of the bank alone. Heck, she wanted to explore the great lakes in hope that she may even come across a water fall that she can go behind. That would be a great sight to start from.I can hold this for you if you’d like. Now where should we start? Would you like to stay on the bank of the lake or would you like to…” Jack said, holding a long, skinny object in his hand that was used as a tool to capture water Pokemon in the lake. His eyes had looked toward the Sandslash. “…go for a swim.

Unfortunately, her ground Pokemon had one issue. Brooke listened to Jack end his explanation with the word swimming then stared to her Sandslash. "Yeah, I don't think so," Brooklyn said tilting her chin upward slightly as she moved her gaze to stare over at Jack, "That would leave Sandslash at twice a disadvantage than if he were to be on land when battling a water Pokemon." Brooklyn had more questions come to her mind. Did this guy actually think she would make her Sandslash swim? She wasn't going to screw her Pokemon up with doing such a stupid thing.

"Anyways, let's get going, I think the grass already grew enough of a tenth of an inch," Brooklyn said and made a sharp 180 degree turn. "Yes, please do hold that rod, it'll be used as a last resort," she then stared back over her shoulder, "Oh, and just to warn you ahead of time, I don't want scare-dy cats or people who back out at the last minute, if you can't handle me, then go get a different trainer that can tolerate the brave types." With that, Brooklyn resumed her walk. The Sandslash had stolen a glimpse of the man that was raping his senses. His voice, smell, sound, everything....was completely new to him. The onyx colored irises had to advert to something else to stare at. "We're going to be looking for stepping stones...and anything I can climb so we can get around to the other parts of the water bank," Brooklyn explained, taking control of what was going on. Yes, she was going to be looking at doing all sorts of things that could be dangerous. Heck, she would do some things while holding Sandslash.

"Tell me," Brooklyn said, picking up some talk with her ranger, "How did someone like you end up with a Yanmega?" Hey, Serenity was one of those great Pokemon that were hard to come across. So, for Brooklyn, it was normal in these situations for curiosity to strike her. Better yet, with Yanmega around, Sandslash may start to feel a bit more comfortable here soon. Did her back hurt or anything at all? Nope, Brooklyn wasn't feeling too much of weight onto her body. Maybe she would after a while, but she was getting use to the feeling. Heck, Brooke swore she was getting stronger because of Sandslash. Originally when he was a Sandshrew, he would cling to her a lot too. Sometimes a personality in a Pokemon can change when they evolve, but Sandslash was not the case here. Brooke could feel in the pit of her stomach that she was close to her destination. A fresh sweep of swampy smell had entered her nostrils not that long ago. There was just something so great with water and nature that just made Brooklyn feel at peace sometimes. The only variable that she had trouble with was this Jack guy. A person she may need to write a very detailed letter on to whoever his boss was.

Jack had to take all the sarcasm this trainer was giving and now punch her in the mouth for it. Instead he answered her as calmly as possible while at the same time still feeling bored. "Right, because I was hoping to come across fire-types in a water-based location," brook said which iirked Jack. He felt like Brook was trying to say she knew more about his job than he did, even so he decided to enlighten her.

“When I mentioned amazing pokemon there have been some incidents where legendary pokemon have been spotted however it is rarly that they ever introduce themselves. I myself have encountered legendary pokemon 3 times but none have bothered to introduce themselves to me, as for pokemon of different types. If any of the other pokemon habitats were to be affected by a disaster of some sort they would move to other areas of the park until their area had been restored, so it is possible to see fire pokemon here but rare.”

They were beginning to move finally when Brook then stopped to say something more, Jack knew he wasn’t going to like what was coming

"Anyways, let's get going, I think the grass already grew enough of a tenth of an inch," Brooklyn said and made a sharp 180 degree turn. "Yes, please do hold that rod, it'll be used as a last resort," she then stared back over her shoulder, "Oh, and just to warn you ahead of time, I don't want scare-dy cats or people who back out at the last minute, if you can't handle me, then go get a different trainer that can tolerate the brave types."

Jack was once again perturbed but kept his cool, he just didn’t care.

“Im sorry to keep you waiting but it is ranger requirement to give you this information, I don’t like is as much as you don’t. That said I should also add that I am required to make sure you do not damage the park too greatly. If I feel you are too disastrous in this trip I will be forced to remove you from the part.” He didn’t mention what was deemed to disastrous because, to be honest it was just a ploy get her to shut up. It was true that he would have to but only if she were to cause something like a land slide or avalanche, something of the sort. He knew she wouldn’t do anything like that.

“As for not handling you ma’am, I am an official ranger and have been such for many different people, if I have had to leave it has been due to personal matters. I assure you, I am quite an adept ranger. Now if you would like to move on now, we can.” They began to move and Serenity took to the air again following behind low to the ground.

While they were exploring the bank Brook asked him something, he could hear the curiosity in her voice, a nice change of tone. “Tell me, how did someone like you end up with a Yanmega?” ‘She could have chosen her words a little better’ Jack thought, but he answered.

“Being a ranger we can go out to different parts of the part. As you may know this part has shown to hold every pokemon type in the world. I happened to find Serenity here and she took a liking to me, we rangers don’t usually catch pokemon but she wanted to stay, so I let her, we’ve been friends ever since. I have a few other pokemon but only two of them do I bring into the park with me. “

Jack was interrupted by something out of the corner of his eye. There was something in the water and it was coming up to the shore, Jack wasn’t sure what it was. He noticed that there was a fairly big tree near the edge of the water. Jack also noticed that there were basic oran berries growing off of it. Something then began to surface from the water. A blue dome appeared, followed by two red circles on that dome, a third smaller red dot appeared on its front side and then a pair of eyes and the top of a blue horn. One of its long gray arms appeared out of the water and reached up towards the tree. The tentacle grabbed a hold of one of the berries on the tree and pulled it off. It was obviously scourging for food. It didn’t see, to have noticed Jack or Brook yet.

“So what shall it be Brook? Would you like to battle this Tentacruel?” Jack asked opening his arm out forward in a “your move” sort of jester.

Brooke had to slow down her pace a bit. How this guy, her ranger or Jack person, was talking and the contents in his statements didn't go hand in hand. When being convincing of something, normally people had to try to sell it with their voice. However, when Jack would reply to her, he would give an answer with a very monotonous tone. Brooklyn rolled her eyes and mumbled under her breath. Her light pink tinted lips formed words that would run along the lines of god killing her right there and right now. Brooke continued to maintain her brown eyes in a gaze toward her ranger. Her thoughts on him altogether had ran absolutely wild. Although, this is Brooklyn, so it be more condensed and compact than just unorganized thoughts in a stampede. Was it really important for her this morning to bother using a sensible colored eye shadow or blush? What she wouldn't give to have time to put on her make-up during the duration of his little speech or propaganda (whatever people call these paid peoples and their advertising nowadays). Jack best be prepared for his consequences. No, it's not that he's doing things wrong in a sense of he'll be visiting satan and his pitchfork (with spit if he's lucky) in the near future. Just that how he's rangering is off the charts. There's no enthusiasm and he has a lack of ability to be convincing to even a little kid.

'“When I mentioned amazing pokemon there have been some incidents where legendary pokemon have been spotted however it is rarly that they ever introduce themselves. I myself have encountered legendary pokemon 3 times but none have bothered to introduce themselves to me, as for pokemon of different types. If any of the other pokemon habitats were to be affected by a disaster of some sort they would move to other areas of the park until their area had been restored, so it is possible to see fire pokemon here but rare.”' Jack's words ran through Brooklyn's head. There's no doubt that people would run into legendaries here in the Pokemon National Park. How he said everything was not convincing to her whatsoever. If this place is exciting as the pamphlet said, then this by all means had to be something to look forward to. Brooklyn wasn't feeling that quite yet. Broke almost tripped over herself, literally, as she heard him choose his words to respond to her statement. Really?

Brooklyn stared over at Jack. How dare he assume such things! The only life that may get in danger today is hers. Never in her life would she put a Pokemon in danger or destroy their environment. Pokemon and their safety was her number one concern. She loved her Pokemon and these Pocket Monsters in general. "The only one who will be put in danger is me," Brooklyn said, "I climb everything I deem climbable, I crosses bridges that are deemed by most uncrossable, I'm adventurous, not destructive, and stop trying to fool me," Brooke said and for the time being listened to the story of the prince and his Pokemon. Brooklyn had then focused her mind on something else more important. Why? They were in the beginning area of the Great Lakes where Pokemon would appear. Right on target was the first encounter. Hey, at least Jack was being polite about it. The Pokemon she saw had a big, circular blue sort of hat to a black colored head with a numerous numbers of limbs and no real middle body. On the blue cap that sheltered what ever was under it were see-through, goopy looking red gels. A better, shorter term for this Pokemon is Tentacruel.

"Uh...sure...thanks..." Brooklyn said, arching her eyebrows. She wasn't too sure the best method to respond to his arm gesture. No, Brooklyn didn't want to attack the Pokemon just yet. Actually, she wanted to wait for the Tentacruel to finish eating its berries. Eying down to the creature that was attached to her chest, her hands gently clutched onto sides of her Sandslash. After a couple of deep breaths, she managed to pull him off of her. Sandslash had tilted his head up and stared at her in questioning. What was going on? Then he turned his head and saw that there was a rather big, intimidating Pokemon. He had tried to roll up. Brooklyn was not going to let that happen as she placed a hand on him. Brooklyn had knelt down and was staring deep into his onyx mirrors. "Just use defense curl," Brooklyn said, which Sandslash nodded his head to.

The red haired girl stepped back to get ready for a serious battle. "This is going to be an interesting battle..." Brooklyn spoke lowly then darted her gaze to the spiky-back Pokemon. His head had went first when Sandslash started to go in for the curl. Each sector of his body infrastructure had broken down into the curl in an attempt to raise his defense. Since Brooklyn was letting this water, tentacle creature have time to eat Oran berries and such, she was going to use the time to better prepare Sandslash for battle. If Sandslash can start to feel more secure in his battle then he can perform better than if he were to not have done any preparatory work at all. Brook adjusted her shades slightly. When the moment strikes, Brooklyn spoke, "Now then Sandshrew, sandstorm." A bit of the wind started to pick up around Sandslash's curled body. Underneath his body, his limbs are going insane as sand collected into a compact amount. Eventually, a sort to twisting shape of the sand started to dance in an attempt to get Tentacruel or at least grab his attention.

    (OOC: male or female?)
Jack was beginning to get excited, as he did with most pokemon battles. He knew this one was going to be unique as the Sandslash was at a major disadvantage and he was very curious to see how this trainer (whom had gotten on his nerves quite a bit) would figure this out. He then got quiet stepped back and let Brook have the center spotlight.

The Tentacruel seemed content with ignoring the pokemon and humans that seemed to come up to the shore. The pokemon was more interested in the Oran berry and sure enough, it retracted its tentacle and it and the berry disappeared underwater where it most likely ate it in peace.

Jack was very curious to see what her first move would be, and was very curious how she was going to command such a timid pokemon. She then commanded her Sandslash to use a Defense Curl attack. So far this was not the very interesting battle he was hoping for, as he was a bit dissapoitned. It seemed the Tentacruel thought so as well. He seemed to not even notice the pokemon and reached up to pluck a second berry. Either that or the Tentacruel just decided to ignore the Sandslash. Jack thought the trainer was done but it seemed she wasn’t, for she then commanded her Sandslash to use Sandstorm, it would defiantly help Sandslash when it was at such a disadvantage. The Sandstorm began to kick up as the Sandslash flailed its arms around. Slowly the wind began to kick up as the storm grew. The Tentacruel looked in the direction of the storm but continued to do nothing, instead it was weary and watched as it searched for food.

Despite the second change, Jack found himself wanting to join the Tentacruel in eating the berries; he figured that would be more entertaining, even considering things might get better. He looked back behind him and watched Serenity zip along the sides of the lake. Jack had asked him in the past not to fly over the lake; he wasn’t too keen on the idea of Serenity getting snapped up by a wild Gyarados. Serenity didn’t go far and when she felt like she was far enough she zipped back over to Jack as fast as she left.

Jack wondered if the Tentacruel would stick around long enough for Brooke and her pokemon to even attack. On the other hand Sandslash got in a free defense boost. He crossed his arms and continued to watch in faltered interest.

    Brooklyn's BP: 3102 Characters (02 B) Total: 25112 Characters

    OOC: MALE

Brooklyn bent her arms to allow her elbows to create an acute angle. Her arms lifted up in front of her face for protection. The mixture of sand, dirt, and who knows what else, had gathered to form a circular cycle. This continuous, raging cycle is what people call a twister. Brooke's body used her strength to maintain a stance on the ground and most of the strength relied on her thighs.. Forces of the wind had gradually grown stronger. She felt the wind whip the sides of her cheek and created a feeling that stung. Her brown colored irises could barely open. Yes, the sandstorm that Sandslash produced had a great impact on her, but he was the exception. Brooke swept the red locks of her hair out of the way and tried her best to focus. The defense curl that Brooklyn ordered was a use of reverse psychology. Sandslash and his trainer had a very close bond. Brooklyn is the only person he could trust. The challenge was that Sandslash would commonly flea a battle to aid Brooklyn when ever she got hurt. He especially did not want to harm Brooklyn in any way. She had witnessed his actions because of previous battles. Hence the defense curl. Sandslash would curl into a ball without the ability to eye or detect his trainer in grave danger.

The challenge here was to attack the Tentracruel. She had hoped that the sandstorm would cloak Sandslash. Brooklyn knew Sandslash timid nature would cause him to not perform combinations and his preference was to use moves that attacked, yet allow him to keep his distance. What they needed was to have an advantage, even if the sandstorm already provided one. The only possible status condition that Sandslash can create is poison and Tentracruel was already a poison-type Pokemon. Instead, they would have to watch out for his deadly poison. Brooke brought down her arms to brave the rapid winds that danced around her body. Ideas ran in her head and replayed numerous times. Then her brown eyes focused. An idea had hit her. What Brooklyn had in mind was an attack that could hinder the Tentracruel. In order to use a ground-type attack, Sandslash needs to get Tentacruel out of the water. The tree had to come down. Brooke flexed her fingers then started her plan.

"Sandslash, use gyro ball on the tree," Brooklyn said; her voice was firm and sure. The hedgehog poked his head out and gave a simple nod. He brought his head back into his curl and then rolled forth a bit. Sandslash started to accelerate his rolls. His bronze spikes made him appear as a bronze ball as he gained more speed. Shortly, a silver, metallic color covered the bronze ball. Sandslash had rolled to try and hit what his master told him. His gyro ball launched into the sky when his body hit a small, dirt-created hill. The gyro ball went to hit down on an object that Brooke hoped was the tree. Sandslash bounced off the object he had hit. His impact had caused him to go back with the force he created. When Sandslash could grab control of his body on the ground, he tried to run back to Brooklyn. "No, Sandslash, stay," Brooke said; her plan can't afford to get ruined.

    @EmmySCx

Ranger Eli was calmly waiting at the Ranger Outpost #2. Lately not much had been happening. He was updating a bit of information on the computer, but even that wasn't much as he was finished within minutes. A Yawning sound came from the Ranger's side as his Delcatty had been napping next to him all this time. If only something would happen soon. At that moment, a lady came up to Ranger Eli holding a huge stack of papers. With the way the Ranger opened his eyes widely it was clear that he was facing one of his superiors.

The lady sighed and said, "Don't worry. These papers aren't yours. This paper work that has someone been piling on Jack's desk. He should take care of this immediately."

Ranger Eli sighed in relief and said, "Thank goodness. Oh, but Jack is escorting a trainer through the Great Lakes."

The lady smiled and said, "Do I have to spell it out for you? Go tell Jack to get back here and take his job at the Lakes, okay?"

Eli basically sprinted up from his seat as did his Delcatty. It seems that she was paying more attention than she lead on to believe.

"I'll go right away," added the Ranger before walking outside.

Luckily, the outpost was actually at walking distance from the Great Lakes, but it was clear from the distance that something was definitely going on already. He could see a big sandstorm that had been picking up.

"Nyah?" asked the Ranger's Delcatty as she didn't seem to happy about the looked of things.

"Yes, Nancy. That's where we are going," answered the Ranger.

Soon they two made their way to the scene. They tried their best to make it through the sand and saw the scene ahead. There was a brown ball moving around; a Sandslash judging from the small spikes sticking out. The Sandslash began to spin faster and faster until he made his way down a small hill. The silver shine on his body made it obvious that he was attempting a Gyro Ball attack, but on what?

The Sandslash's attack kept getting faster and faster until he finally hit a tree at the edge on the water. But, it seemed that the trainer failed to calculate the move's power. As Sandslash made contact with the Oran tree, he seemed to have hit a weak spot. Sandslash went right through the tree which suddenly shattered outwards causing the ground type Pokemon to keep going forward into the water following behind the upper part of the tree.

"Nyyyah!" shouted Nancy as she began to panic a little, but not as much as Sandslash began to panic.

Almost instantly Sandslash unrolled and made his way right to the beach again. Now he was wet and shaken by the sudden splash. But that wasn't the last of his worries. Tentacruel was stunned for a moment seeing his food source be taken down like that. But moments later, that shock turned into anger. Tentacruel glare directly at the Sandslash in the chore just as the water began to move deeper into the lake. That was a clear sign that something was about to happen. Suddenly, just as the water moved back, it suddenly began moving upwards creating a huge wage with Tentacruel riding on the top. Sure, doing that had exposed the Jellyfish Pokemon to the Sandstorm, but it was a price he was willing to pay. Brooklyn would have to think fast to avoid this one.

Meanwhile, Jack seemed intrigued by the turn of events only to be interrupted by Ranger Eli.

"Uhh...Jack...I was sent here to get you to back to the second Outpost. You have A LOT of paper work and you know who doesn't look happy at all," said Ranger Eli trying his best to be nice.

Jack's eyes opened widely as he quickly turned around and leave. That was probably a good moment to let the trainer know that she had a Ranger change, but, with the circumstances of the battle at the moment, it was best to just let her focus for now.

    Brooklyn's BP (1: 3)

So far, one encounter, and already the field are full of events. There was a mixture of moves going on. She had recalled how Sandslash created a sandstorm. Thus, she couldn’t make out anything well in her vision. However, that didn’t hinder her sight too much. For she could still see the blue, clear water rise into the air and the wall of water kept growing. To do to the mesh of a battle, the larger size Pokemon had seemingly moved the water into a surf attack. Brooklyn’s eyes widened and she did the first thing that came to her mind. Brooke slid off her cover up and she coiled the fabric around her head. She did not get her hair done that long ago just to get it ruined by the likes of a Tentacruel.

How was she going to counter this Pokemon? Sandslash didn’t have the usefulness of protect and by the time she were to switch Pokemon, it would be too late. Then something hit her. No pun intended. Sandslash had the ability sandveil and that meant his evasion went up. He was therefore not as easy to hit. So, they still had a little time left to implement an attack that may help reduce the damage of the water. “Sandslash!” Brooklyn cried out and exclaimed, “Stick with me here, and stay strong!” Brooke then called out, “Use sandtomb on the ground in front of you!”

The ground, Bipedal Pokemon had focused his stare on the ground in front of him. His tail lifted then slammed onto the ground. He arched his back then slammed his claws into the ground. That was then and there that Sandslash started his move. A bit of the sandstorm focused in a circular area on the ground. Layers of the ground started to break down and twirl into a counter-clockwise swirl. The swirl faded away as the sand tomb’s circle had broken down into a layer of rings.

Brooke’s means of having Sandslash use sand tomb was to act as a barrier so to speak. So the water will seep into the sand tomb. While Sandslash will get a probability of damage because of the proximity of the attack, he won’t receive as much damage if the surf were full. Then the sand tomb would act as a means to trap the Tentacruel. Brooke wasn’t a hundred percent sure if everything will fall into place she would have preferred it to. She at least was giving this one try.

“Sandslash, we’re going to take our chance to land in a hit,” Brooke said and crossed her arms with confidence, “I want you to land a roll-out, and I know you can do it.” In her head, she saw the possibilities. The best scenario would be if Sandslash made the hit and bounced off the Tentacruel due to the momentum of the roll-out. If Sandslash didn’t reciprocate back to his spot then that could produce probably a little more damage with the spikes that ran along his backside. There’s the chance that Sandslash could roll out under Tentacruel before he landed and then there’s the chance that Tentacruel could react quickly to grab the Pokemon during his roll-out.

Sandslash went into a rhythm where his body glided forth a little and back a little as well. The pattern continued for a little while then he gave one shove off the ground with his paws. His body reacted into a roll that lurched forward. As he continued to roll, his body gained more momentum, and he anticipated to hit something. That left Brooke to stand back as she stared into the sandstorm. She was unable to see her Sandslash at this point and could only rely on her own faith that he will turn out alright.

    BP1 (Vs. Tentacruel)

    Ranger Makina Auran

    *~~~~~~~~~*

“Son of a... just what am I looking at here?”

The only person in the room, a young male secretary who was appeared to be in his middle teens, flinched upon hearing the outburst. The Outpost was fairly quiet, due to the other Rangers either being out on vacation or were out leading Runs of their own. It was due to this, and the fact that tech support in the Park was limited save for the scientists who worked on the teleportation pads in the Ruins, that the man had decided to ask someone for assistance in fixing his laptop. Unfortunately for him, he knew little about the machines and he had chosen someone with a very short patience for those technologically inept. “It's...a computer?”

Makina took another look, the laptop currently open and displaying a very large number of pop-up ads on the small screen. “All I did was try to open an application, and this shows up. Do you use any type of antivirus at all?”

The secretary simply shook his head confusedly. “It has FirePix, does that count?” Seeing the glare he received from the Ranger in return, he had a sinking feeling that he had said something terribly wrong. Thankfully, he was spared what was likely to be a long rant about computer maintenance and security when another Ranger popped their head in with a small stack of papers It took a moment for Makina to register that it was Sara (least she was sticking with that, no one should name their kid Trainer). Even though she didn't know the other Ranger all too well, the fact was it was someone her senior and that was a lot of paperwork she was carrying...

“Please say those are not for me,” Makina automatically said, eying the papers with dread. It seemed like all she did was paperwork, even with that strange freelance who offered to help complete her logs “The paperwork for the last two Runs are already waiting to be filed, promise.”

“Nope! Just this one on the top is yours,” the other Ranger replied, giving a grin and grabbing the top piece of parchment from the stack and tossing it Makina's way. “It's a strange one- you're going to be the third one we assigned there at the Lakes. The first one was dragged away due to ignoring his work, and the second one never made it there.”

Upon hearing the second part, Makina gave a slight frown. It was not rare for Rangers to leave a Run and be replaced with another one due to sickness or emergencies, but to happen a second time in a row was no good. The Park had a reputation to keep, and to hear that someone had pretty much vanished on the way there... hopefully the Trainer was all right. “I'll take it. Is anyone there currently?”

Sara shook her head, and quickly turned to leave though not without dumping the paperwork on the desk next to the secretary. It wasn't until after they had left that Makina took a brief look at the form. The Trainer's name was Brooklyn, or just Brooke, and was exploring the area with nothing but two Ground-type Pokemon. Rather than mull on this strange discovery, she quickly headed out to the Lakes, leaving the secretary with his very expensive paperweight for now.

It wasn't hard to find her Trainer. Near a large lake, a young woman was currently watching a battle between a Sandslash and a Tentacruel. What was surprising though was the fact that a large tree was currently half-submerged in the water. Judging from the way it had been felled, an outside force had done this. In addition, there was a sand cloud blanketing the area. The wind swirled about, both giving Sandslash shelter and wearing down Tentacruel's endurance.

Lovely, a Trainer on their own and someone destroyed a small part of the area. Just need a couple more slots to complete the Bad News Bingo sheet, Makina thought to herself. There wasn't much more time to think more on the matter though, for both Pokemon were unleashing their attacks.

Tentacruel appeared to be angered about something- likely the felled tree nearby was a part of it. It summoned a large wave of water upwards, then brought it forward while riding the top part of the tidal wave. This could only be Surf, and could spell bad news for the Trainer's Ground Pokemon.

“Sandslash, stick with me here and stay strong!” the young woman called out. “Use Sand Tomb on the ground in front of you!”

The Pin Cushion Pokemon gave a small nod, though appeared to be trembling slightly as he prepared his attack. He slammed his font claws into the ground, and a shallow bowl in the sand began to form directly in front of it. While this helped lessen the effect of Surf somewhat, along with causing Tentacruel to sink into the sandtrap, a good amount of the water managed to crash into Sandslash, causing the already soaked Pokemon to whimper in pain.

“Sandslash, we’re going to take our chance to land in a hit,” The Trainer said, likely happy to see that her plan had somewhat worked. “I want you to land a Rollout, and I know you can do it.”

Sandslash immediately rushed forward, curling into a ball as he gained momentum. Currently, the creature was living up to its species classification as it rolled forward and rammed into the currently trapped Water-type. While the move had done minimal damage, it would do far more as the creature used Rollout in succession. Already Sandslash was rolling away and moving as if to strike again.

Tentacruel was not exactly going to float there and take the abuse however. Lifting up two tentacles, he summoned forth what appeared to be a collected force of wind before sending the attack straight forward. As a few water droplets made contact with the gale, icy rimes began to form. Without Brooke's guidance, Sandslash would likely charge right into the attack due to being effectively blind mid-roll.

A couple theories swirled around Brooklyn’s head. She had to consider each step more than once. The sand tomb helped a bit, but not by a whole lot. Sandslash still ended up facing that surf attack. What more is that surf is a special attack based move, and he didn’t have that great of a special defense. Brooke closed her eyelids over her brown eyes for a few seconds. The clock was ticking and she had to start attacking the enormous jellyfish. She wanted to capture this Pokemon and she desired to have him for herself.

The idea of having a Pokemon such as Tentacruel was mind-boggling. He already proved his worth through the battle so far. She wanted to have this gigantic Pokemon to ride through the waters. His tentacles would help to fight off any unwelcomed Wild Pokemon. Brooke raised her eyelids to examine the scenery. Just as she had to think for Sandslash, she had to think for Tentacruel. If she were in battle, she would technically have to predict the attacks that would come his way. Brooklyn knew she had to peer into Tentacruel’s perspective at this point in time.

From the looks of things in the battle field, Tentacruel was in preparation to send an attack that would try to stop Sandslash’s roll-outs. Brooklyn knew people found it hard to believe that she couldn’t always empathize with a Pokemon. There was the relationship between her Pokemon and she that no one could replace. Then there were the Wild Pokemon she wanted to battle and capture. How would she get along with Tentacruel if she were to capture him?

Brooklyn crossed her arms and straightened her stance in confidence. Her eyes gazed over the smooth curve of her Sandslash. He would turn into sessions of roll outs until the cycle would meet its end. Unfortunately, she can’t just walk over to pick him up and tell him everything will be OK. Sandslash was only taking the current situation as well as he could and Brooklyn knew she had to try to recover from the water damage – emotionally. Then, her eyes focused more onto the Tentacruel.

She didn’t have a great essential of Ice Pokemon on her. Heck, she recently got her first Ice Pokemon. So, she wasn’t the best when it came to deciphering an ice attack the second the Pokemon starts to prepare to deliver one. However, she could not stand back to let this unknown ice attack get the best of her Sandslash. While his impact will continue to grow with each roll-out, how would that react with the ice attack? Something in her stomach gave her the wrong handful of butterflies.

Could it be possible that the momentum of the roll-out could contribute energy to the ice attack? After all, Sandslash is packing heat with each roll, and what’s left from the warm of the heat is the cold. What if they tried to break it early? This was quite a naïve idea, but she had to admit that this was the best they could do for now. Brooklyn then commanded her Sandslash, “You’re at a consistent speed and the power keeps building up, merge into a gyro ball.”

Steel is ideally strong against ice. A gyro ball essentially is a fast-paced roll-out that seems to take the form and the effect of steel. Sandslash on cue started to concentrate on the energy and speed of his roll-out. His backside spikes in turn began to create what was left of what people could see of him. No longer could the mere human eye pinpoint his yellow scaled skin. All that was left were the tips of his steel-like spikes that stood out in the sandstorm. Sandslash then continued to try and attack Tentacruel with a gyro ball.

    Ranger Makina Auran

    *~~~~~~~~~*

Makina could almost see the gears whirring within Brooklyn's head as she quickly tried to decide just what to do next. Sandslash was in a delicate situation, and the fact that the Pin Cushion Pokemon couldn't see currently didn't help matters in the least. Upon seeing that the Ground-type was building speed for another attack, something seemed to click for the Trainer. After saying something along the lines of her partner managing to reach a high enough speed, she called out her next command, “Merge into a Gyro Ball!”

Sandslash, still rolling around, redirected his path and turned away from Tentacruel with impressive speed. Once the Ground-type had situated himself, he abruptly uncurled and faced the wild Pokemon and swiped forward with both claws. Two half-spheres of metallic energy formed from the movement and, miraculously powered from the inertia Sandslash had gained from Rollout, they moved towards Tentacruel with blinding speed.

Tentacruel appeared to be surprised by this strange attack, though his expression quickly formed into shock as the Gyro Ball effortlessly moved through the Icy Wind and negated the worst of the attack and even managed to strike the Water-type as well. While a small remnant of the icy technique did manage to hit Sandslash, the Pokemon hardly shuddered nor did he seem to be hampered by the cold in any way.

“This may be your best chance to strike, while Tentacruel is still deciding what to do next,” Makina said, walking over to join Brooke. Seeing that a fishing rod had been tossed on the ground nearby, the Ranger picked up the item. “Wonder how this got here... my name is Makina, and you must be Brooke. I'll be your Ranger for today.”

Nothing could beat moments like this that occurred throughout everyday life. People gain a feeling of acceptance and relieve during these precious moments. They did something right. In a battle, a right move could turn the fate of the match around, or if someone was already on her way to winning, then that would merely help the trainer continue to carve out a straight path to a granted win. Brooke spread her lips out into a smile as she watched the result of Sandslash's attack.

An idea she had in the back of her mind had followed through, and even more, the attack had played out well for Sandslash. Her brown hues stared to her pangolin-like Pokémon. "This may be your best chance to strike, while Tentacruel is still deciding what to do next," a female said. Brooke moved her gaze to who she guessed is her current ranger. The young, blonde hair girl gave a directional nod at the ranger. Right now, she could see that she had the clear advantage. Ranger Makina had also used the open opportunity to make an introduction. "Wonder how this got here... my name is Makina, and you must be Brooke. I'll be your Ranger for today." Brooke, in return, gave another nod.

In certain situations, people try to avoid speaking and anything that would call for a distraction. Just as the gears in her head were winding a while ago, they continued to do so. As much as she wants to reconsider the fishing rod, she had a battle with the Tentacruel still. She wasn't going to back down until she captured the monster and his 80 tentacles. According to the PokéDex, Tentacruel had 80 tentacles, and usually sticks to using 14 of them.

"Sandslash," Brooklyn said. No one had to tell the young woman that she had to take this chance to attack and attack she must. This attack had to deliver an efficient damage or else this was a waste of a turn. The rustle of the fierce wind that converged with the ground would constantly tangle with the young girl’s blonde hair. Her brown hues were focused intently on her spiky-back armadillo. “I have an attack, and you won’t have to get close either.”

Brooklyn accepted that after what she had commanded Sandslash to commit the actions he did, she had to watch what calls she would make in the future. The last thing she wanted for Sandslash was to have him choke or turn on her. They both knew to a degree that she cared for his well-being. Unfortunately, in the stress of a battle, attitudes and reasoning can change – for better or worst. Brooke wanted to ensure a successful attack that could help them as well repair any mental or emotional damage she left on her Pokémon.

“Sandslash, listen clear,” Brooke said and moved to her knees. Sandslash was closer and would work better through the vibes that were closer to the ground than if she were to direct in higher altitude. “I want you to perform another gyro ball, except this time I want you to use poison sting behind it.” In the back of the young trainer’s mind, she considered the effects of steel and poison on each other. If metal can cancel out the poison’s effect then the metal will form around the poison sting.

The semi-medium creature tilted his head up a little. His tail would swish from left to right, then right to left. Gradually, the tail came to a stop. In fact, his entire body remained still. Sandslash’s pupils that blended into his black hues had widened a bit as he focused deep within the gourd. Sometimes communication between a trainer and the Pokémon is the strongest between two individual beings. Sandslash’s ears twitched a couple times then he peered to the direction of the sand tomb.

“I want you to try to aim if at possible on the inside of Tentacruel’s head,” Brooklyn explained. Who knows how well the poisonous bulbs on Tentacruel’s blue helmet were connected to his optic nerve. Generally, the inside of a Pokémon with a tougher outside type of body format meant that the Pokémon was trying to protect a fairly obvious weak point. Another reason why the poison sting would come in handy because there’s a chance that the sting (once it became metal) could target and do some damage to the Tentacruel.

Brooklyn wanted to avoid costing too much damage. She knew that they were facing the possibilities of over-killing a Pokémon. If they could maybe weaken the Tentacruel a decent amount, then they may have a better shot at catching this poisonous water-type jelly fish. Sometimes a Pokémon can perform fairly lower in performance because of the lowered health point count. She had to also take into account that Tentacruel had the type of nature where he turned stronger when circumstances were at their worst. Battling can resemble gambling, and boy, did Brooklyn enjoy her gambling.

Sandslash crouched up a little bit. His short legs were short and bent with his bugle-like knees sticking out. The ground-type had his feet spread out at an equal distance. Each moment that Sandslash got to perform an attack, the sandstorm began to slightly diminish. Yet, the sandstorm continued to brew and brush amongst the spikes on Sandslash’s back. He swept his arms back in a similar direction in preparation for a familiar attack he unleashed a couple times before now.

A slight risk was in their way. Since Sandslash had used gyro ball many times in the past, this may not throw off Tentacruel. Brooklyn hoped that her plan would guarantee them another hit that Tentacruel wouldn’t predict. Sandslash could not really deliver close moves that well. Sandslash’s attacks in general either had little to no effect or required that he get closer to his opponent. Thankfully, the case of the poison wasn’t an issue for either of them. She had to admit that sometimes battles were better when both Pokémon felt no affect from a type in the battle field that they both dealt with in general.

Sandslash slashed his claws forward in front of him. The momentum of his movement and the pressure of the wind built together. This wind would only lead one direction and that was in a circular pattern. At least, as the sandstorm was dying down, Brooklyn theoretically felt the winds would reduce in size and could maintain a consistent pattern of movement. Thus, a couple metallic-looking topsy-turvy spheres appeared. They both started to move away.

“Sandslash, prepare your poison sting,” Brooklyn called out.

After the hedgehog had unleashed the first process of his attack, he crunched back down. A burning feeling developed inside of them. Brooke could notice a purple glow that was spreading to a spike on Sandslash’s back. At first, the purplish color was hazy and kept a circular-growing motion around the random spike. The purple color began to turn into a solid color closer to the tip. Brooke felt like a child who anticipated when the red color on a thermometer stick would reach a particular degree.

“Now then, release your poison sting into one of the gyro balls,” Brooklyn had instructed.

Then, just like that, Sandslash tipped forward a little bit. The purple spike stuck out like a sore-thumb. So, as the odd one out, the spike shot forth at the direction of the gyro balls. Brooklyn considered this was enough distance for the poison sting to meet the gyro balls before landing an attack on Tentacruel. A tinier attack such as that poison sting could predictably move faster than the bigger mass of the gyro balls. All she had to hope for was that the metal sting attack would work.

Brooklyn pressed her hands on the ground. She pushed herself up and continued to watch onto the battle field. These were moments she could not look away from. Brooke inhaled a deep breath then released it. She curled her hands around the lining of her mouth. “You did great Sandslash, you’re doing fine!” Brooke exclaimed to her Sandslash. She dropped her hands and stared over to Makina. “Have you ever seen a Tentacruel this close before?” Brooklyn then stared straight forward and said, “I wonder if it’s scarier closer or farther away.”

    Ranger Makina Auran

    *~~~~~~~~~*

Brooke didn't respond to the Ranger's question, focusing instead on her Sandslash. This was understandable to Makina; after all, this was the middle of a battle and the Ground-type did have a serious disadvantage. She tried to figure out just why her Ranger had chosen one of the ponds for a possible Pokemon hiding spot. The Lakes did have a few shallow areas that could almost be considered marshes in their own right, and they far suited a Trainer who used Pokemon that could hardly stand water. Perhaps the original Ranger had simply not looked over the list, or maybe they had simply stopped here for a moment when Tentacruel had surfaced. Regardless, this all didn't matter at the moment as the two Pokemon were ready to exchange blows.

“Sandslash, listen clear,” Brooke called out to her partner over the Sandstorm winds. “I want you to perform another Gyro Ball, except this time I want you to use Poison Sting behind it. I want you to try to aim, if possible, at the inside of Tentacruel’s head.” She then tried to instruct Sandslash on how to use the improvised combo.

Makina lazily rested the fishing pole on her shoulder, listening carefully. The technique seemed sound, true, but both moves were of an element that Tentacruel would be extremely resistant to. At this rate, this would be like a battle of a thousand cuts... or the Water-type would simply grow angry enough to use a Water attack to blast Sandslash out of the way.

Before Sandslash could begin his first move, the Tentacruel let out a loud screech. The sound-wave from the verbal assault resounded against the Pin Cushion Pokemon and caused him to slightly curl up into a ball. This did not deter Sandslash; moments later he uncurled and readied Gyro Ball. The sphere floated in midair, ready to charge forward.

“Have you ever seen a Tentacruel this close before?” Brooke stated suddenly, addressing Makina before turning to stare at Tentacruel. “I wonder if it’s scarier closer or farther away.”

“I have a friend who is raising one, actually,” Makina replied, a little surprised at the sudden question. She looked over at the tentacled water creature with a hint of admiration. “They're fairly powerful despite their lower evolution being so common, and can withstand quite a few attacks in their own right.”

At this point, Sandslash had finished filling the Gyro Ball with poison- now the orb was a sickly violet shade instead of the normal argent hue it normally possessed. Directing the attack forward with a claw swipe, the Ball hit Tentacruel right below his left eye, causing the creature to roar. In response, the Water-type spat out a wide stream at acid towards Sandslash. The green gunk stuck to the Ground-type's hide, and seemed to wear down his defenses- Sandslash was shuddering visibly.

A pattern that Brooklyn had noticed in her days of training was that the platter you serve is the same amount she'll get in return. People would refer to such a saying as karma. She had half-expected that Tentacruel would do anything to send a good amount of damage back at Sandslash. All she could only hope for was to get Sandslash through this battle. Beasts were like this in that they packed a punch to them. Everyone had their favorite types of Pokemon. Brooklyn could swear up and down that ground could inevitably fall under her favorite type category. However, her love for ground type Pokemon didn't compare to her love for beasts. Brooke's love for beasts could stem all the way back to the times when she would watch Godzilla as a little kid.

Brooklyn placed her hand against the belt that occupied three similar round-shaped devices. She grasped one of them with her pointer finger and thumb. She pressed her thumb down on a button the device had and the hyper ball grew larger. Then, Brooke had stepped back. Inside her head she was thinking of throwing her Hyper Pokeball in a bit of a delay. More than anything, she guessed that Tentacruel was waiting for Sandslash's next move. Brooklyn wanted to make sure she got this catch. If she were to possibly throw the ball too soon, then the Tentacruel could use his tentacle to hit the ball away. She figured she was over-thinking her idea, but she didn't want to waste any chances on this big guy.

"You are mine," Brooklyn said, and then pitched the hyper ball-shaped, catching device towards the humongous jelly-fish. Each second turned into a minute and each minute had then turned into an hour.

Did the hyperball take? Brooklyn curled her fingers into a fist. Her balled-up fist had then squeezed a couple times. Anything could come between the Tentacruel and she. Any person, Pokemon, or flying debris could knock the ball out of the way. She shut her eyes and shook her head. There was no time to focus on the ball all at once. Brooklyn couldn't stand here and ignore her Sandslash. She glanced over to Makina to flash her a weak smile. Then, Brooklyn hustled her feet over to Sandslash. The battle may or may not be over. Right now, that entirely didn't matter. Beast or no beast, she couldn't stand back to watch her Sandslash shiver the way he did.

Brooklyn placed a hand on Sandslash's head and pat it.

Brooklyn turned her head then to see what happened.

    Ranger Makina Auran

    *~~~~~~~~~*

    Despite her P
okemon's fear, Brooke didn't look worried in the least. Pulling a Hyperball from her belt, she steadily walked towards the wild Tentacruel. There was no doubt about it- she was looking to capture the aquatic jellyfish now. "You are mine," the Trainer muttered, and tossed the capture device forward.

Makina silently watched the Hyperball's path, seeing it tap Tentacruel on the head and suck in the creature in a red beam of light. Whether the wild Pokemon was tired of fighting or had taken a liking to the Trainer she had no clue- all she knew was the sphere hardly rocked before letting off a ping to signal a successful capture. At the same time, the Sandstorm winds finally began to die down.

Not bad for a first capture,” Makina remarked, retrieving Tentacruel's Ball and placing it in her pack. When she looked back at Brooke, she saw that the young woman was currently comforting her Sandslash. “Park rules state that the Ranger holds on to all successful captures until the end of the run, so I'll be carrying onto this guy for the moment. Normally, I should also ask where you want to explore next, but...” the Ranger pointed a thump towards the lake and still-visible tree lying within, “I need to deal with this first. Mind explaining how this happened?”

Brooklyn continued to run her hand gently over Sandslash’s head. Somewhere deep inside Brooklyn, she was more than excited. A party was blasting off inside her chest. For a second, she had to place a hand on her chest to reassure she would be fine. Brooklyn pressed a finger to Sandslash’s mouth then her own. She stood up to try and grab her breath. Brooke shook her head and sometimes her smile would widen for a second or two at different intervals of time.

Great, I’m probably looking like such a dweeb. Calm yourself down, Brooklyn,’ Brooke thought.

She held out her hands in front of her, and then she tried to make an attempt to calm herself down with a couple of deep breaths. She brushed her hands against her clothes then turned to face Makina. Now that Tentacruel was captured, they could move on. Brooklyn, at first, thought that was the obvious move to make until she felt a different notion. Her eyes studied Makina then she turned to look back over into the water.

Nothing was getting into Brooklyn’s head. Then, she felt the right button click when she realized what Makina had gestured to in the water. The whole ‘what’s that’ was the whole upper part of the tree that had fallen into body of water. Earlier, when Sandslash and she had entered the Park, she lacked a little bit of luck with getting the Tentacruel’s attention. She didn’t do well dealing with the fact that her Tentacruel didn’t dare to blink his eye in response to her Sandslash.

Brooklyn looked back over to Makina and slightly covered her mouth with her hand.

“Oh, you mean that in the water?” Brooklyn asked, then shifted her stare to the water, and then back to Makina.

What other way could she possibly explain herself than making it out like a big fool. When she heard the whole, I, in Makina’s statement, “I need to deal with this first.-“, she knew she had no choice. The whole idea that the ranger would have to take over to clean up her mess wasn’t something that settled right side in her stomach.

“Oh, no, don’t worry; I can take care of this…uh…mess?” Brooklyn said, moving her hand up and down in direction to Makina.

“I mean, I knew,” Brooke said, then brought her hand to rub the back of her head.

“I was going to when I got a moment, I was just a bit more occupied with Tentacruel,” Brooklyn explained.

The whole occupied part was probably a definite fault on her behalf. Tentacruel was more interesting and important at the time that she neglected a problem she created. Granted, she was busy taking care of Tentacruel, but she figured a small part of her would have done better if she were to possibly hit two birds with one stones. Except she didn’t realize the opportunity she had to try to get Tentacruel to break the tree in battle. He was a stronger monster that could touch water. The opportunity has come and gone, and it was far too late. Therefore, she was left with Sandslash that wasn’t the best option with water.

Brooklyn continued to brainstorm the current obstacle at hand. Over time, the tree had managed to go deeper into the lake, which proposed another problem. This situation was more than likely fly right over head. She knew that this wasn’t a problem that she could easily solve. Yet, she wasn’t going to give up and resort to having her current ranger step in to clean up her mess. What could she do though? There were few to no options other than possibly endangering the rest of the park.

Brooklyn wasn’t that crude towards other Pokemon. Just as she was sure that Tentacruel wouldn’t want his home destroyed in any way, she didn’t want her home suffer through any sort of damage. Anything, such as lightning, was out of the question. Fire wasn’t going to get them anywhere and if the fire managed to survive through the water, then she could risk arson for placing plants and trees under a “wildfire”. Hippowdon, her other Pokemon, had an assortment of moves that didn’t help the situation. He could yawn in the water and cause all the Pokemon to sleep, but that wouldn’t bring them any closer to a solution.

“So, you asked what happened – it’s a little bit of a long story that took place bits of time before you got here,” Brooklyn explained, “My first ranger and I headed over here, where we saw a Tentacruel, well he saw that Pokemon before I did.”

“Tentacruel was eating a berry off the tree, and then the ranger asked if I wanted to battle him, so I said yes, and I chose my Sandslash. I had Sandslash work to set up a defense because we were near water and I figured having that little extra defense would help Sandslash in this battle. However, at the start of the battle, Tentacruel wasn’t doing much of anything to retaliate. Tentacruel was more or less ignoring Sandslash. I decided to change the tides around and have Sandslash roll towards the tree. I guess you could say that I underestimated Sandslash’s strength, because he happened to knock down the tree…and that’s why it’s there,” Brooklyn said.

Brooklyn removed her hand from Sandslash’s head and stood straight up. Her hands brushed together to rid whatever debris had managed to get onto them from petting Sandslash and the duration of the sandstorm. Now that she had finished explaining the situation, she had to continue plotting her next move. As someone that had her share of chess games and fair competition, she has faced a series of obstacles to overcome. Except, she never realized she would stand here one day with two ground-types, trying to figure out how to dismantle a tree that is submerged into a pool of water. This really had to suck and she needed an answer.

Brooklyn used her dark brown eyes to scout the environment. Other trees wouldn’t do a thorough job of destroying the tree in the water. In fact, she was more than sure that additional trees would create an ickier mess. There’s the problem where she didn’t have an exact idea as to the placement of the tree. Any attacks from this far off could miss and may result in angrier Pokemon. A stampede of water Pokemon that would do anything to kick her out of the park, physically, did not give her a stomach a warm, fuzzy feeling.

“Honestly, I don’t see much that we can do this far except cause more trouble,” Brooklyn said.

She brushed the right side of her red hair behind her ear then bent down to scoop Sandslash into her arms. Her arms gave a slight bounce to help secure Sandslash in her hold. The young lady turned her head to stare at Makina and her partner.

“Believe me, as much of a troublemaker I admit I can be sometimes…I don’t always have a taste for causing more trouble than there needs to be, you know?” Brooklyn grinned.

Brooklyn turned her head slightly and asked, “Could we by any chance use something like a boat to get closer to the tree?” She glanced down to her Sandslash to give him a warm smile. “Sorry, but I just don’t think it’s worth it to try and use Sandslash this far. He’s done a good enough job against Tentacruel and sending him into the water might just give him the type of trauma I wish to avoid. I was thinking if we could attach some rope to Sandslash’s back to use one of his spikes, we can hoist up the tree, and then my Hippowdon could bite down at a few different parts of the tree, then deliver a final blow with Sandslash’s crush claw.”

    Ranger Makina Auran

    *~~~~~~~~~*

Now that her battle was over with Tentacruel, Brooklyn focused her attention on the sunken tree mostly submerged in the water. Upon hearing Makina's words, the Trainer seemed to get flustered.
“Oh, no, don’t worry; I can take care of this…uh…mess?” she said, motioning towards the tree and then back to the shoreline. “I mean, I knew, I was going to when I got a moment, I was just a bit more occupied with Tentacruel...”

Makina patiently listened to Brooke's explanation for what had happened, crossing her arms as she heard the Trainer's words. From what it sounded like, Tentacruel had completely ignored the young woman, concentrating instead on his meal. Unable to decide on anything else, she had ordered Sandslash to ram a tree and had accidentally felled the large flora instead.

Once Brooklyn had finished her story, Makina finally gave her response. “Well, from what I can tell, you didn't mean to damage Park property. I'm assuming you used Sandstorm to get it's attention before, and I'm honestly surprised that Tentacruel didn't come over here to investigate. However...” the Ranger closed her eyes a moment, taking a deep breath as she tried to explain her next statement as clearly as possible. “The tree is in the lake now, and may cause some trouble if it stays in there.” Seeing Brooke's sinking expression, she quickly added, “If you have an idea, I'm all ears. It makes my job easier, and I'm sure the Park Heads will be more lenient if they know you helped in fixing this problem.”

Honestly, I don’t see much that we can do this far except cause more trouble,” Brooke admitted, picking up her Sandslash before turning to face Makina. “Believe me, as much of a troublemaker I admit I can be sometimes…I don’t always have a taste for causing more trouble than there needs to be, you know?”

Seeing that Brooke looked truly stumped on what to do next, Makina fished out her PDA once more to take a look at the Trainer's current team. Sure enough, there didn't seem to be any option for her to even reach the broken tree- both Pokemon were Ground-type, meaning they had no way to swim towards the obstruction. While long-ranged attacks would possibly work, neither Sandslash or Hippowdon had anything in their moveset that could help out. Well, other than Poison Sting, but that would risk causing even further damage to the lake and any connected water-sources.

Could we by any chance use something like a boat to get closer to the tree?” Brooke asked suddenly, her eyes brightening in realization.

There should be a boat docked close by, actually,” Makina replied, going over a mental map in her head of the general area. While this lake wasn't extremely deep, it still had a small canoe in case Trainers wanted to head out in the water to wish without a Water Pokemon of their own. “As for rope, if there is none in the boat I have some in my pack. Let's head there next, then.” Grabbing the spare Rod that the prior Ranger had left behind, Makina led Brooke towards the water's edge.

Before they could reach the makeshift docks, there was a squawk as something flew above them.
