    Ranger: Jay

"Bug Catcher, huh?" Jay said aloud, pondering on this new revelation for just a few moments. "Yes, yes. I can make that work provided the net doesn't get in the way," he added, scanning the file once more. "A noob though. Never having even set foot in the Park... Perhaps this is just what I need. Yes, yes. Hm..." Jay trailed off, lost in his own thought process. It was only when the telephone rang that he realised he'd been caught up in his own ramblings. Muttering, he picked up the red receiver.

"The goods have arrived," an ominous voice boomed down the phone.

    "I'm on my way."

Grabbing his jacket and throwing it over his shoulders haphazardly, Jay left the old cabin and made his way towards the front gates where they would be meeting.

"Bug catchers are usually easy to spot," Jay thought aloud as he neared the large poles that indicated the entrance to the woods were just up ahead. A figure stood just outside the gates and Jay gave him a wave. That must be him there.

"Woah," an amazed Gary let out from his lips, the huge gates a sigh he'd never seen before. "This is so cool!" he exclaimed aloud. His excitement was written all over his face, an ear-to-ear smile, a bright shine in his eyes. He adjusted his backpack, containing normal exploratory gear such as a few empty Pokeballs for catching new friends, his current Pokemon, neatly tucked away in their Pokeballs, and a few other provisions for emergencies, as he approached the gates. Oh, and of course attached was his handy butterfly net. The sturdy piece of wood had gone with him through all of his adventures and he was expecting nothing less than the reliability he'd come to expect on this trip.

Out of the corner of his eye, Gary spotted a man who shot him a quick wave. Overflowing with eagerness, Gary began to run towards the man. However, his childish enthusiasm got the better of him as his shoe clipped a stray root and he tumbled to the ground, his arms scraping on the dirt. "Ow," Gary moaned out as he sat up, rubbing the cuts on both sides of his arms. Some of the contents of his backpack had also spilled out, namely the Type Repellent he'd picked up at the Shop and one of his Lava Cookies. He gathered his possessions and secured them back in the bag, but left the Type Repellent on hand.

He approached the man again, his enthusiasm quickly returning. "Hey! I'm Gary! What's your name?"

Hey! I'm Gary! What's your name?" the energetic trainer proclaimed as I drew nearer. I gave him a firm handshake and told him that I was Jay, his ranger for the afternoon. As we made our way towards the large gates that marked the entrance to the wooded region, I noticed he had something in his hands.

"Ah, a repellent. It'd be a good idea to spray that now before we enter the Park just in case we get ambushed by some types of Pokemon immediately in there." Gary looked a little alarmed at that, so I made an effort to reassure him. "Not to worry though, not very many trainers die in the Park. And if they do, we know how to hide them from the public's eye." He laughed nervously.

After a quick spray of the deoderent-like cannister, we pushed past the creaking gates and into the overgrown shrubbery on the other side. Before we had gone more than a few feet, I noticed a little moth Pokemon floating just a little in fron of us.

"That appears to be a Mothim up ahead. We can try and sneak past it if you aren't interested in battling, but if we don't succeed you can opt to purchase a Pokedoll for 500 that guarantees success in fleeing. Entirely your call, ser."

The rather small brown moth hadn't noticed us quite yet, and still seemed to be focused on the shrubbery below -- perhaps looking for nectar to feed its young, or maybe for a set of keys or something. Mothim often get locked out of houses, or so I've heard.

OOC: btw Poison repellent, cuz i think that matters.

Jay introduced himself to me, and I gotta say he seemed nice enough. Though to be honest, I was so pumped to start my adventure, I probably wouldn't have minded even if he was the gloomiest gloomer that ever gloomed. Even Jay's somewhat off-putting joke had no effect on my excitement. He advised me to spray my Type Repellent and so I'd done so. I was never fond of Poison-type Pokemon, unless they were part Bug of course.

Upon entering the park I was amazed by how cool it was. The woods were so much larger than I could've ever imagined. I was boiling with eagerness just thinking of all the cool Bug Pokemon inside. I took my first step when I noticed the Mothim.

Jay offered for us to try escaping from it. I thought it over and I decided, "Ya, I think I'd rather try escaping. Mothim is an awesome Pokemon but I already have one. By the way, I'd love to use a Pokedoll if we can't manage to sneak past." I tried my best to whisper this to Jay so that the calm creature wouldn't notice us tiptoeing by.

Ya, I think I'd rather try escaping. Mothim is an awesome Pokemon but I already have one. By the way, I'd love to use a Pokedoll if we can't manage to sneak past," Gary whispered to me, and I nodded. Most people who visited the park and wanted to flee from a wild Pokemon thought that it was the best bet to escape while the Pokemon hadn't noticed them yet. It made sense.

suddenly, a bit of gust picked up and the leaves in the trees began to rustle. The cool breeze made me shiver a little, as though something ominous was nearby.

"That was weird," I muttered. I'd never felt a wind like that. Although it was hard to explain, it just didn't feel like a normal gust of wind. Besides, how could theur be a gust of wind in the heart of the forest. It seemed we weren't the only ones to notice the wind began to flutter towards us. "That'll be 500 bucks, kid," I said, pulling a cute little Venonat doll out of my bag and throwing it at the bug. Mothim scooped it up and shied back a little, enticed by the furry doll.

After Gary paid me, we began to continue down the classic beaten track. Occassionally there'd be sounds from the trees overhead, but it was otherwise mostly silent, until I heard an ouch from right beside me, followed by a thud. A Pineco had fallen from the tree ontop of Gary's head.

Holding back the laughter I asked whether he was interested in battling.

OCC: 70.3-.5 = 69.8 I sort of weirdly already deducted for this, but I swear this checks out....

Jay and I tried to sneak past the Mothim as it happened upon its way. However, as luck be it a strange gust of wind that sent shivers down both of our spines caught Mothim's attention. I had really wanted not to bother the cute Pokemon, but it just wasn't in the cards. I was pleasantly surprised by how content Mothim seemed by the Venonat doll Jay had produced from his pocket though. Mothim scurried on its way happily.

As we continued down the path through the woods, I was amazed by the height and thickness of the trees. It seemed as though there was no end to the dense, dark green. I was entranced by how endless it seemed, and pretty impressed by Jay's knowledge of the area. Then, suddenly, a Pineco fell from the trees above and hit me square in the head. The thing knocked me straight to the ground, sending a Pokeball from my bag flying out. My Parasect appeared from its container. He emerged slowly from his container and crawled over to my side. He noticed the Pineco beside me and shot me a glance that I knew all too well. Parasect really didn't want to battle right now. I understood this and so when Jay asked if I wanted to battle the Bagworm Pokemon, I repsectfully declined. "Nah, Parasect and I are good. Plus I already have a Forretress in the bank. Let's try to leave this Pineco with nothing more than a pat on the head." I said as I patted the Pokemon. I stood up as I said this and brushed the dirt off of my white shorts.

Gary didn't seem to want to make this decission by himself so he sent out one of the Pokemon he had brought with him. The Parasect shot out of the Pokeball before Gary and looked up at him. Although, I wasn't sure exactly what the Parasect could see since its eyes appeared to be pure sclera, lacking any indication of pupils. The parasite-infected Pokemon made a scratching noise as it scanned the area.

"Nah, Parasect and I are good. Plus I already have a Forretress in the bank. Let's try to leave this Pineco with nothing more than a pat on the head," Gary said, as he bent down to pat the Pineco on the head. He shimmied out of the way at first, presumably scared of the unknown human before him. Then the Pineco beamed and hopped aside a little.

"Little fella seems to like you, despite the hard fall."

We continued walking for a bit, before the path below us began to fade away into moss and grass. We were left with no choice but to leave the dimishing track and head into the heart of the woods. This would be where the larger Pokemon could be found. And perhaps some rarer ones too, but as the description suggested, they were rare.

Just a few moments later, by a nearby treetrunk, a large blue Pokemon was resting, snoring loudly.

"Oh, a Loudred. Any interest in battling?"

The Pineco seemed content with my friendliness towards it and scurried along on its way. After what seemed like an eternity, Jay, my Parasect (who had decided to come along for a walk), and I reached the end of the path and started into the real neck of the woods. The trees suddenly started surrounding us on all sides. I know I would've been lost in those woods forever if not for Jay. But this is what was necessary to find the really rare Pokemon! My excitement was brewing for my first battle. My Parasect, with his large red body bobbing along, contently walked beside me, just enjoying the view. I often wondered what Parasect thought about when he saw small mushrooms growing in the forest. Did he have any attachment to those? Did he consider them family since he was also part mushroom?

As we approached a rather large tree, a loud, silence-ripping snore caught our attention. There, leaning against a treetrunk was a sleeping Loudred, its large stomach rising and falling with each snore. It looked very peaceful in its sleep, but I couldn't take the excitement anymore. I knew it wasn't Bug type, but man I was ready to catch anything at this point. Jay asked me if I had any interest in battling and I sure as hell did!

I probably should've taken a moment to consider what my plan for attack was, but I just couldn't wait another second so I dove right into offense. "Okay! Let's go Parasect!" I said to my mild companion, probably a smidge louder than I should have said it. "Start off with a Swords Dance to get yourself stronger. Then smack that Loudred with a Brick Break. Hit 'em where it hurts!"

Parasect seemed a little hesitant to attack the poor, defenseless Pokemon in its slumber, but he complied none-the-less. First off, he recited the ritual dance he and I had practiced countless times. As he rubbed his claws together, the power began to surge through his strangely shaped body. He prepared his ruby-red claw for the attack as he crawled in close to Loudred to smack it hard with his left hook, right in the stomach.

((Gender on Loudred? Also, what abilities are your Pokemon using?))

    BP #1

Merlin's beard, this was a mess. Her little office at the Ranger Headquarters was a mess. She'd gotten a bit disorganized, much to her displeasure. Aleria hated being disorganized. It happened, yes, but that didn't mean she had to like it. A knock at the door made Aleria look up from the organizing she was doing. "Come in," she called out, dropping the stack of papers she held on her desk with a plop.

"Jay's got something else to attend to. We need you to go finish up the run he started," the blonde woman who interrupted Al's organizing said. Aleria only nodded, mumbling something about an email. The woman seemed to understand though, and she just stepped out of the office and went back to her work. Was it ever mentioned that Aleria didn't like being interrupted too? Because she didn't like that at all. No, sir, not at all.

Her computer beeped, and she went over to that, skimming the email that the woman Aleria had deemed her secretary had sent her. Some Bug Catcher named Gary was in the Woods, and so far, he'd seen a Pineco and a Mothim, and he was getting ready to fight a Loudred. Natural environment for a Bug Catcher. The Woods had bugs, Bug Catchers liked bugs, therefore, it made loads of sense that he was in there. Why he was catching a Loudred was beyond Aleria, but in all honesty, she didn't really care.

It was easy to spot Gary. Like every other Bug Catcher she knew, he had a butterfly net. It wouldn't be very useful here in the park (not that it had been very useful in the first place considering he'd already run from a Mothim), but it was a signature thing they carried along with them. She'd arrived just as the mushroom crab thing called Parasect started sharpening his claws and bouncing a little. Swords Dance, Aleria noted, as she stopped near the trainer. Followed up by a Brick Break that was strengthened by the Swords Dance. Smart guy, Gary was. A claw slammed into the sleeping Loudred's body, and there was a loud roar that followed as Parasect scampered away from the now awake Pokemon.

Loudred wasn't happy at all. Then again, anyone who was happy after being rudely awoken from their slumber needed to be slapped big time. That or they were freakin' insane.

The purple Pokemon, despite being injured from the Brick Break Blow it just took, glared at the mushroom bug. Nope, it was not happy at all. As a matter of fact, to show its great anger, it started beating on its chest and stomping its feet. "Uproar," Aleria noted, speaking loud enough so that Gary could hear her over the commotion that Loudred was making. "I think you made it mad when you woke it up."

She was tempted to add something about how nice it would be if he could get the annoying Pokemon to shut up, but she held her tongue. Better to keep her mouth shut than to say something and regret it later. The commotion seemed to be bothering Parasect too, probably due to the tremors caused by Loudred's stomping. "Might want to do something about it quick though. It seems to be bothering your Parasect."
