    ~~~
    Meteor Valley. The name itself was enough to make Adelaide feel tingly with awe. Its lush, green forests and dense fog looked like something out of a fairy story. From her perch on the back of her Togekiss, Debrota, Adelaide could see the whole of the vale spread out below her. She was practically buzzing with excitement.
    Debrota lighted down at the valley's peak, in front of an old oak cabin that looked right at home in the thick, verdant vegetation. Adelaide recalled Debrota to her Pokeball before she headed inside.
    The cabin was empty, as most of the Ranger outposts usually were. No one stayed there very long; after all, one couldn't have adventures in a musty old cabin. Adelaide plopped down in one of the deserted chairs and pulled up her Trainer's dossier on her PokeNav. Morganna Fairchild was the Trainer's name. Apparently the young woman was an experienced Trainer - and one with a Togekiss, which meant she was a Trainer of good taste. This promised to be a fun run.
    As if on cue, the door swung open. Adelaide turned to see who was there - and almost immediately regretted it. The woman who walked in was wart-covered and snaggletoothed, with scraggly hair and a slouch that worked together to make her look worryingly similar to a primate. Adelaide groaned internally, then got angry at herself for groaning, then glared at the table for several seconds in order to gain her composure. She was being unfair; the other woman couldn't help her appearance, and it wasn't her place to judge.
    Putting on a friendly smile, Adelaide looked Morganna right in the eye. "Hi!" she said as chipperly as she could manage. "I'm ready when you are, so if you haven't got any questions we're good to get in gear."
    Morganna Fairchild, having woken up at exactly seven forty-five, wondered what time it was. Groggily, she had rolled to the right and positioned herself in order to get a better view of her clock. She craned her neck but immediately stopped. There had been something, movement perhaps, that she saw only via her peripheral vision. What it was exactly, she wasn’t sure, but for some reason, it made her a bit apprehensive. There seemed to be something off today.
    Meanwhile, sitting atop the hut’s roof were two of her pokemon. “Do you really think it necessary to be playing tricks on her right now?” The Alakazam had not spoken, instead having admonished the other pokemon using his psychic abilities.
    The Meowstic, whom had been busy brushing his fur now had a large grin plastered on his face and shrugged. “Ahehehe. Come on. Don’t be too serious with that stuffy mustache of yours.” The Alakazam glared at him. ”Eh, just one more harmless prank before we leave. It’ll be fun.” He turned to cheekishly smile at the other Psychic type before gracefully swishing his tail and jumping off the ledge, no doubt to start his next prank. The Alakazam sighed. The Meowstic was usually fast, but somehow, whenever he was up to his tricks, he seemed to move even faster.
    A few seconds later, the smell of tobacco filled the air. Morganna winced. It could just be one of her neighbors smoking, but that along with the uncomfortable feeling that she was being watched reminded her of a certain story her mother used to tell her involving a large creature that was always smoking tobacco. Supposedly, it was a mischievous beast, having a penchant for causing traveler’s to lose their way and end up going about in circles; otherwise, it was also known for watching people just before abducting them in the middle of the night. If one of those was following her, she’d have to take extra precautions against losing her way today considering she was about to venture somewhere she’d never previously been.
    Maybe it would be better for her to put off her trip, she thought as the Alakazam suddenly appeared in front of her. “Aether, what do you think?” If she really was being followed, she’d have to take off her shirt and wear it upside down in order to evade the creature, something she’d rather not do in front of a complete stranger.
    There is no need for apprehension; those were just his doing. The Alakazam projected an image of the Meowstic, now sprawled on the roof as he burst with laughter, through their mental link. It is time to depart, or we shall be late.
    “Mmm, I dunno. There was definitely something watching me,” Morganna said with hesitation. Secretly, Aether thought his trainer was being quite silly, but he didn’t say a word. “Mush, time to leave,” she hollered as she grabbed her belongings, and with that, they were whisked away by Aether’s Teleport.
    The three of them appeared beside a cabin, probably the place the rangers used as their base. Morganna knew better than to leave Mush out of his pokeball in an area like this. Wary of the trouble he could potentially cause, she recalled the Meowstic into his pokeball before he could get out of her sight.
    Meteor Valley was surprisingly… lush. Not having bothered with doing her research, Morganna had assumed that Meteor Valley would be much more desolate. What with the name it had, she’d imagined a barren steep valley with only varying shades of gray in all directions. Harsh, pointed stones jutted out in all directions, and there was the occasional meteor every now and then. Instead, grass covered the entire area, and wildflowers were present as far as the eye could see. As far as Morganna could tell, massive trees seemed to line the entire valley, and if her eyesight could be trusted, there seemed to be some fog off in the distance.
    Beside Morganna stood Aether, who seemed to be particularly enthusiastic for some reason. It was only a subtle change, but Morganna could tell from the slight quiver of his mustache that he was excited. Was it the particularly clean air, the idea of interacting with other Psychic types, or the possibility of having a new teammate? Morganna considered asking, but Aether usually wasn’t one to tell her about such things. He would only put it off and deny any assertions she’d make.
    Still bothered by the events at home, Morganna considered keeping Aether out of his pokeball during the duration of the trip. Out of the three pokemon he brought, he, with his mastery of his psychic abilities, was the most suited when it comes to the task of sensing the presence of others. “Keep an eye out, all right?” she asked. As he silently nodded, Aether could still see the apprehension evident on his trainer’s face despite her trying to keep it out of her voice. She, despite being so sensible in other situations, just couldn’t think straight when it came to ghosts and spirits.
    It didn’t take long before the trainer and her pokemon reached the entrance to the cabin. Without so much as a knock, Morganna absentmindedly opened the door marked outpost number eight. Inside, she found the furniture to be quite similar to that of the first ranger outpost, only seemingly much more unused. She had just stepped in, but she could already tell that some of the desks had been left for quite some time. These more distant ranger outposts must only be used like a waiting room, she thought – a room for rangers to pass the time while waiting for their trainers or vice versa.
    There was only a single person inside. The woman, sitting in one of the chairs, was looking in Morganna’s direction. Quickly sizing her up, if Morganna had to describe her with a single word at that moment, she would have said “spirited.” The woman was tan and a bit chubby, and her clothes screamed for attention. Morganna wondered if the woman was younger than her or if it was just the cheerful expression she was carrying. “Hi,” the stranger said, smiling. Was that woman’s hair brown with bright pink? Morganna hesitated. Maybe it was just the lights inside the cabin.
    "I'm ready when you are, so if you haven't got any questions we're good to get in gear," the woman had called out. I guess she’s my ranger, thought Morganna.
    ”She seems to be very energetic.” Aether, who had been standing behind Morganna stepped to the side, revealing himself.
    “Hello. I’m Morganna Fairchild. You’re my ranger, correct?” With that, Morganna smiled, offered a handshake, and proceeded to hug the stranger, making sure the odor that wafted from her body would cling to the ranger’s clothing. That morning, Morganna had smeared onion and ginger on her clothes in an attempt to ward off evil spirits. She didn’t want anything bad to happen to her ranger now did she? “Let us begin our journey then.”
    Morganna stepped to the side, waiting for her ranger to lead her out of the cabin before taking out a PokePlayer. “According to the salesperson, this device is used to attract particular types of pokemon by calling out their cries,” Morganna mumbled mostly to herself. “It’s time to see if that’s accurate.” Carefully, she took out a silver disc labeled “Sigilyph” and inserted it into the disc slot. Then, she pressed the button marked with a triangle. A most curious high-pitched sound started emanating from the device, causing Morganna to almost drop it in surprise. It certainly was a call from an avian-like creature, that much she could tell. Whether or not it belonged to a Sigilyph remained to be seen.
    Morganna was about as odd as her appearance. Her first act was to give Adelaide a handshake, which was normal; the hug however she really could have done without. There was no two ways about it; Morganna smelled terrible, like she’d been chopping onions and… ginger? Either way, it rolled Adelaide’s stomach, something that was rather easy to do. She stepped out of the hug as soon as she could and brushed her hair aside - the short brunette mop had been freshly dyed with pink streaks just the other day. “Well!” she chirped, trying to prevent her voice from betraying annoyance. “Let’s get going, then!”
    Once they were outside, Morganna started muttering to herself - or at least, Adelaide figured she was mumbling to herself, since the odd woman’s Pokemon were psychics and could telepath with her if she wanted. At first, Adelaide didn’t bother looking back - after all, she already had something resembling proof that Morganna was a little off - but she was startled into it when a shrill, warbling cry went off behind her. For a few seconds, she was very confused, until she noticed the Pokeplayer in Morganna’s hands and was able to breathe a sigh of relief. The cry sounded vaguely familiar, although Adelaide couldn’t identify it fully.
    There was silence for a few minutes as the women and Pokemon walked into the foggy forest. After a few moments, a cry echoed out of the shadows, one almost identical to that which had come from the Pokeplayer. A winged shape drifted closer, staring out at them with three eerily gleaming eyes. It was a Sigilyph, Adelaide realized - a very strange-looking creature that floated in midair without moving its thin, vestigial gold wings or the black claws on its side. The multicolored avian hovered curiously just a few feet away, looking between all of them with piercing eyes. Adelaide stepped back. “Here’s your Pokemon,” she said quietly. “You’re good to go.”
    @VeloJello;
    Morganna wasn’t sure, but she got the feeling that the ranger wasn’t going to be as friendly towards her as she would have hoped. After all, she still had not introduced herself. Maybe the hug wasn’t the best way to have started. Morganna was tempted to initiate small talk and talk about the weather but hesitated; maybe later, she thought. She was absolutely sure there would be plenty of time for chitchat; the question was whether or not the woman leading her would appreciate it. After all, she knew that there were people, those who just wanted to get things over with, who didn’t like much conversation. Utterly worthless distractions, they had told her on multiple occasions.
    As Morganna and her Alakazam were led by the ranger towards the forest, Morganna couldn’t help but notice that the grass was relatively flat with sandy soil lying visible every now and then, as if this path had been trampled on by many a traveler. Silently, she wondered how many other trainers had, just like her, come in search for particularly elusive pokemon. Morganna followed behind her ranger, careful not to trample on any of the wildflowers.
    Apart from the shrill sounds that were coming from the strange device that she held in her hands and the muffled footfalls they made against the grass, Morganna found the immediate area to be quiet, something she found unsettling in an area that seemed so vibrant from her first impression. She had expected to hear the sounds of the local population moving about but was instead greeted with silence, not even a pokemon’s cry somewhere off in the distance. The trainer made a mental note to ask her ranger whether or not the area was usually this quiet.
    The chilly fog wasn’t really helping either, having caused the hair on her arms to stand on end. Wishing she’d brought at least a jacket, Morganna kept her eyes peeled for two reasons. The first was obvious; she was looking for pokemon. The second one was decidedly less pleasant. Two women wandering around in a forest filled with fog, it was a scenario practically lifted from one of her grandmother’s stories. She was keeping an eye out for malicious tree spirits.
    Suddenly, breaking the silence was a cry similar to the one that had been playing for a good fifteen minutes. Morganna’s eyes glinted with excitement as the pokemon approached them. It had swiftly drifted closer without so much as a sound or a sliver of movement. Oddly enough, neither the pair of golden wings nor the black forklike appendages on its side moved; they remained stationary as the pokemon hovered. No, Morganna thought. It wasn’t hovering. The pokemon’s movement, being both calculated and elegant, could be more appropriately described by the word “gliding.” It seemed to be a much more suitable term to characterize that otherwise strange movement .
    Morganna had immediately recognized the pokemon as a Siglyph and was already falling in love with the idea of training such a creature. She fancied the stripes adorning its wings, blue and pink, which were not as vibrant as the bright streaks on the ranger’s hair. Morganna would never say it out loud, especially not in the presence of her ranger, but they, instead being much more subdued and pastel, were definitely easier on the eyes. Morganna couldn’t decide whether the Sigilyph’s main body was black with green or green with black, a trivial matter for certain, but one that piqued her interest. Its tail, which hung from its main body, or at least what Morganna had assumed to be a tail, looked similar to its wings, golden, four-pronged, and striped, just a bit thicker. Morganna couldn’t help but stare at its eyes. She didn’t mind the two that were on the main body, but the one that was like an antenna was quite disconcerting.
    Realizing that the pokeplayer in her hands was still calling out, Morganna fiddled with the device, pressing buttons at random until it fell silent. “It seems to have been a worthwhile purchase,” she said, revealing her crooked teeth. She took a deep breath as she decided which pokemon to battle with. All three were capable in their own way, but Morganna, considering the circumstances, chose the one whom she’d hope was going to provide the most entertaining battle. She then pulled out a pokeball from her pocket. Stay calm, she told herself. She was getting too excited. This was going to be the first battle of the day, and she knew that it could very well determine whether or not the rest of her travels were going to go smoothly.
    “Diana, let’s go!” she called as she pressed the button on the pokeball. After the bright light filled the air, another winged pokemon appeared. The Togekiss, whose name had been taken from the queen of fairies herself, settled gently between the wild pokemon and Morganna. There was certainly enough space for an aerial battle, what with the trees being widely spaced apart. Diana chirped merrily, introducing herself to her opponent.
    Morganna started calling out her orders. “Let’s start with a Thunder Wave.” Togekiss were fairly slow pokemon, and the drop in speed caused by the paralysis from Thunder Wave was bound to be advantageous. After all, in an aerial battle, speed and evasion were equally as important as power. “After that, go ahead and try dealing some damage with an Ominous Wind. The environment’s certainly creepy enough for a technique like that.”
    The Togekiss started nuzzling her feathers, accumulating static electricity in the down of her wings. When the electricity was enough, Diana would let loose a weak stream of electricity in the hopes that her opponent’s nervous system would get affected by the attack.
    @Sky Lark Sigilyph’s gender? Also, super sorry this took so long. May is the worst month to be a senior in high school.
    ~~~

    At the sight of Sigilyph, Morganna seemed to grow excited. Adelaide wasn’t sure that that was a good thing; that weird ginger stink clung to her own clothes now and the last thing she needed was another hug. Of course, Adelaide didn’t say a word; she had decided that keeping quiet might be the easiest way to deal with this uncomfortable situation. It probably wasn’t the best possible course of action - Rangers and Trainers needed to communicate and build a rapport; had Adelaide even introduced herself? - but for now, there was more to worry about. Morganna was releasing a Pokemon to challenge Sigilyph - a big, beautiful Togekiss.

    The Togekiss, in usual Togekiss fashion, was chipper and quick to introduce herself to her would-be opponent with a series of chipper chirps. The Sigilyph tottered uncertainly in the air. Probably it was unused to socialization, as Pokemon in Meteor Valley tended to be solitary in nature. Either way, the greeting was an excellent distraction, as it gave Diana a chance to charge and discharge a Thunder Wave. The bolt struck true; Sigilyph’s wobbling grew more pronounced as it was hit and the electricity interfered with what little muscular action bolstered its levitation.

    Adelaide shivered. The valley tended to be a bit chilly, but it was never windy like this. And the fog definitely never coalesced in one place on its own. If Adelaide hadn’t heard Morganna ordering an Ominous Wind, she’d probably have been pretty worried. As it was, the sight of Diana calmly gathering the mist to herself in a roiling ball that seemed to be forming creepy little faces was scary enough. With one decisive flap of her wings, the roil rolled, slamming Sigilyph with a wave of ghostly energy.

    Sigilyph had seemed rather dazed before; now, however, its three blue eyes all narrowed in focus. Its wings flapped madly, causing the wind to kick up in its direction. Even when the flapping slowed, the wind remained, giving Sigilyph a cushion of air. It didn’t stop there, however; its eyes began to glow bright blue. Little patches in the air around it glowed as well, creating several small dagger-like formations. One flap and they’d fly, sped by the Tailwind, directly into Diana’s skin. This was the interesting part, Adelaide thought, where she’d get the chance to see this Morganna woman’s mettle.

    @VeloJello;

    OOC: Male please. It’s all right, real life comes first

    Morganna had intended for the Thunder Wave to slow the wild pokemon down, inhibiting the transmission of electrical signals between nervous synapses would essentially make the creature sluggish and perhaps unable to perform specific actions, but to her surprise, the wild pokemon seemed to wobble midair as if it was having trouble staying afloat. She had not expected the paralysis to interfere with the pokemon’s levitation, which led Morganna to wonder about the way by which Sigilyph achieved levitation.

    The mechanism by which paralysis from a Thunder Wave technique worked was common knowledge and required only basic knowledge regarding the transmission of nervous impulses to comprehend. What was not common knowledge, however, was the mechanism by which Sigilyph could maintain their suspension in air despite their disuse of their (probably vestigial) wings. Two possibilities came to mind. Was it by the use of muscles? If this were the case, they’d have to smooth muscles, the type that acted involuntarily, otherwise, once they fall asleep, they’d be unable to maintain flight. The second was the possibility that the Sigilyph achieved its levitation via the use of telekinesis. If the second mechanism was the one in play, however, it would mean that Sigilyph are so skilled at telekinesis considering the fact that even when they are asleep, they are still able to display enough telekinetic ability to remain floating.

    With the disruption from paralysis, the first mechanism was more likely to be true, something that Morganna found extremely interesting. While she had been mulling things over, Diana had started attacking. Slowing the pace at which she flapped her wings, Diana started calling upon ghostly spirits that would attack her foe. In an instant, the temperature dropped, and the wind picked up, making the fog coalesce around her form. Calmly, the Togekiss started manipulating the fog, collecting it into a ball as she had already done several times previously. With the fog churning about and Diana satisfied with the sphere’s size, she motioned with her wing, sending the ball flying towards the Sigilyph. The sphere seemed to collect more ethereal energy, growing larger the closer it approached its target. Upon contact, the sphere burst, releasing the energy in a single wave that pushed the Sigilyph away.

    Wobbling even more violently from the force of the attack, the Sigilyph started flapping its wings, generating a wind to blow in its direction. The fog had started to disperse as a result of the wind, which still blew despite the Sigilyph flapping its wings less rapidly. Not finished with its counterattack, the Sigilyph’s eyes started to glow the color of the ocean on a bright summer day. The glow, having quickly spread to the air surrounding the Sigilyph, was certainly not a good sign. Morganna was well aware that it was prudent to brace for cover when things started glowing around Psychic type pokemon. She had to act fast and devise a plan, but first, she had to know what she was up against. From what she could see, the glowing areas were pointed and thin at the edges, which meant that they were likely projectiles. Despite their small size, Morganna instinctively knew they could cause a lot of damage.

    Ideas started popping in and out of Morganna’s head as she decided which action she would take. A defensive barrier like Light Screen or Protect might work, but she was afraid the pointed nature of the projectiles would allow them to pierce the protective wards. “Maybe Diana could set up a Tailwind of her own,” she mumbled, but she quickly shot the idea down. If anything, the projectiles would only be slowed. Evasive maneuvers with the use of Extremespeed sounded promising, but it was quite risky. The wind blowing behind the Sigilyph was bound to make the projectiles fly fast, and Morganna wasn’t sure if Diana would be able to outspeed all of them, which meant only one option remained. If blocking and escaping weren’t going to work, she’d just have to make the projectiles miss their mark.

    “Diana,” she called out with haste and urgency, “Use Hyper Voice now!” Hyper Voice, being a sound based attack that involved screaming at the top of one’s lungs, was an attack that Morganna hoped would be enough to break the Sigilyph’s concentration. A sound barrage would definitely be unpleasant, and the trainer hoped it would be sufficient to make the Sigilyph’s aim poor. “When the glowing projectiles are released, use Air Slash to knock away any that are headed your way. Make it a wide attack, so it will come into contact with most if not all of them.” Morganna hoped that, considering Air Slash would essentially form a concentrated burst of wind, the Air Slash would act like a swordsman’s blade as it slashed away incoming projectiles, diverting them away from their target. Maybe some of the Air Slash would be able to find their way towards the Sigilyph. It was wishful thinking.

    Diana quickly started taking in a deep breath, opening her mouth wide as she prepared to strain her vocal cords. Emitting the loudest scream (or should I say chirp) possible, she waited for her opponent to release its attack.

    @Sky Lark Same apology, I’m afraid. Life is harrrd. Good news is quality and speed should start upping around the start of June.

    ~~~
    Adelaide expected a simple strategy - a hastily-thrown Protect or Light Screen, perhaps, or a wind-baseed attack of Diana’s own to divert the course of Sigilyph’s attack. However, Morganna pulled out a plan that was admirable, if not for its extra effectiveness, then at least for its creativity. Diana let out a chirp so loud that Adelaide winced, sending a glowing wave of energy flying at Sigilyph. The avian rocked back and forth, so disoriented that it loosed its attack prematurely. Razor-sharp arcs of wind flew toward Diana, but most of them were too far to hit their mark. Those that weren’t were immediately dissipated by a vicious Air Slash that ripped through the Air Cutters and straight into Sigilyph.
    The dual-type fell, but only for a moment; it rose again, and this time its eyes were glowing bright blue. Its immobility had little effect on its mind, which it employed with a vengeance. The blue glow spread to Diana who, for no visibly apparent reason slammed hard into the dirt. When the glow faded, Diana stood up, not quite up to flying again for the moment. Sigilyph seemed like it wanted to attack again but was hindered by its muscle paralysis, leaving both slightly-battered Pokemon in a tense standoff.
    @VeloJello;
    Diana let loose the Hyper Voice that she had been preparing, sending a wave of sound towards her opponent. Luckily enough, the Sigilyph was so focused on preparing its own attack that it didn’t even attempt to evade the burst of sound. The Sigilyph, seemingly stunned by the attack, rocked back and forth through the air like a pendulum.
    The burst of sound had been intense but brief. Morganna, knowing the extent of her Togekiss’ attack, had managed to throw her hands over her ears just before the Hyper Voice was performed. Her ranger, however, wasn’t so lucky. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed her ranger wince. Without lifting her eyes off the Sigilyph, Morganna called out a quick apology; she should have told her to brace herself as well.
    Apparently, the sound wave had been jarring enough that the Sigilyph had accidentally released its hold on the wind daggers, sending them flying haphazardly. The Tailwind, which blew towards Diana, helped the Air Cutters fly in the correct general direction, but despite this, most fell short and failed to miss their mark. Still, a few were making their way towards Diana. With the daggers rapidly nearing her, Diana threw out her wings, hastily slashing at the air. The concentrated burst of wind dissipated the remaining Air Cutters, but due to Diana’s haste and the opposing Tailwind, the attack was not nearly as strong as Morganna had hoped it would be.
    The Sigilyph had been knocked to the ground from the force of the attack, but it quickly recovered. It returned to its previous position, levitating without the slightest bit of movement just as it had been at the beginning of the battle. Only this time, its eyes were glowing. Suddenly, Diana was enveloped by the same blue light, and before Morganna could register what was happening, the Fairy type dropped to the ground, flung down by an invisible force.
    Diana had only managed to release a gasp as she was forcefully slammed into the earth. No doubt it was her opponent’s doing. Gingerly, she got to her feet, having deciding against flying for the moment. The sudden crash into the ground had not been good to her wings.
    Morganna, meanwhile, wondered what kind of an attack would just send her pokemon plummeting like a stone. She was sure it was a Psychic type attack. Sigilyph was a Psychic type pokemon after all, and naturally, it would be adept at manipulating Psychic type attacks. She supposed that it was similar to the move Telekinesis, a move which immobilized the target and suspended it midair. The only difference was that Diana wasn’t being held aloft.
    Morganna observed that the Sigilyph was making several twitching movements – perhaps involuntary and stemming from its paralysis. Now, she realized, was the time to act. The Sigilyph looked like it had quite a bit of fight still left in it, so she decided to go on the offensive. “Diana, use your Hidden Power,” she called. A pokemon’s Hidden Power was unique to itself, and Diana’s was of the Ice variant, a fact that Morganna intended to make use of. “Try to encase the Sigilyph’s wings in ice,” she continued. An Ice type attack, she thought, would work well with the already chilly environment, and if nothing else, the weight of the ice on the Sigilyph’s wings would serve as a burden. “After that, strike hard with a Shadow Ball.”
    As soon as Morganna finished with her commands, the Togekiss drew her wings together. In an effort to concentrate, she closed her eyes as she attempted to call forth her Hidden Power. Slowly and steadily, a blue glow not unlike the previous one started surrounding Diana’s form.
    @Sky Lark Good news - I’m now graduated. That means I should be less ridiculously inactive.
    ~~~

    Now that Sigilyph was substantially more battered, Morganna decided to press her advantage. She ordered a Hidden Power - evidentially Diana’s was Ice-type, something that Adelaide must have glossed over in the dossier - and a Shadow Ball in succession. Diana lighted to the groud for a moment, wings folded over her chest. She glowed again; this time, the light seemed to radiate outward from deep within her, forming into a halo of cyan fractals. With a strong, abrupt leap, she launched back into the air and flapped once decisively. The light flew, blown by her wings toward Sigilyph, who only had a moment to look startled before the ice encased it. Its body was largely unaffected, but the ice piled up along its wings. The creature sank in the air, its wind and the majority of its mobility gone.

    As its tail began to trail the ground and Diana prepared to drive its defeat home with a Shadow Ball, Sigilyph suddenly seemed to spring back to life. Its eyes glowed again, but this time the blue irises were tinted pink. The air in front of Sigilyph shimmered to match. Within seconds, empty space had been transformed into a sheet of hard violet light.

    It seemed that Sigilyph was just in time, as well. A ball of roiling black mist shot out of Diana’s gaping jaws. When it hit the light, it half-dissolved, and what little passed through was too wispy to do more than cause Sigilyph to wobble. For the first time in the battle, Sigilyph seemed to actually be holding its own.

    Now Sigilyph was the one with an advantage to press. Yet again its eyes glowed, but this time the glow cycled through several different colors, finally settling on a pinkish pale blue. Diana’s eyes began to glow the same color; in a second, a wave of razor-thin light flew out from Sigilyph to Diana. The Togekiss let out a cry, no doubt in pain - the attack looked like a Synchronoise, a bizarre attack that only worked when attacker and target shared a type. However, Adelaide noticed that Diana didn’t seem too badly affected. Sigilyph’s feathers brushed the grass; its wings were full of ice crystals and its eyes were half-closed. Obviously it still had some fight left, but Adelaide wouldn’t be surprised if Morganna went for the capture soon.
