OOC: You need to pick the ability of your choice for Tentacruel and Starmie by the way.

Ah, finally done! I let out a sigh of relief as I stretched my arms and took a sip of tea from the cup that someone brought in just now. I had to clear a huge backlog from as recent as yesterday, to as old as a couple of weeks ago. See, each time we Ranger someone, we need to write and submit reports and detailed information, detailing the experiences during the Park run, anything different or extraordinary about the trainer, what Pokemon were caught, what items were used, and so on and so forth.

I turned myself around on my armchair and pulled up the blinds. The weather was almost perfect today, sunny yet windy, my favorite kind of weather. You get to see the sun, and yet you won't feel too hot because of the windy breeze. I knew it was windy because I saw the way the tree leaves swayed with the breeze, and the way the trainers' and rangers' swayed along as well. They were enjoying themselves, as I spot them exploring the entire area of the Great Lakes, a really large area where several huge, deep lakes are situated at. There are some scraggly bushes here and there, but not much else other than that, growing on the yellow sands that covered areas between the lakes.

I almost had the urge to open the windows to feel the breeze, but my office was air-conditioned. Furthermore, the air-conditioner was automatically controlled so that it turns on from an automated time to another automated time, so we couldn't control it. Unfortunately, that is quite a wastage of energy, sigh.

My thoughts were interrupted by a sudden notification sound. I turned back to face my laptop and noticed that I have received an email - a new assignment. I opened the email up and skimmed through the data provided to me. Trainer's name is Sec and ... Wow, that is a lot of items. He must have came here before. Many times, only the first timers would come in with very little items, only to regret later on, such as the lack of Parkballs or items to help them with specific Pokemon to capture. I quickly typed a short reply to verify that I have received the email and to also notify the receptionist that I will be taking this trainer.

I took my messenger bag from the cupboard and pulled out a couple of Pokedolls and healing potions, in case the trainer needed to buy those from me in the middle of the run. I wanted to bring along a Pokemon that would walk by my side as well, in case I needed it to protect us from some wild rampaging Pokemon, since it was after all my duty to protect the trainer from any harm and ensure that they have a good time in the Park. I also had an urge to bring a Normal-type Pokemon along. They were always my favorite type of Pokemon. I took a Pokeball in the drawer and pressed the capsule button to release the Pokemon within.

With a red flash, the silhouette of a large Pokemon appeared, overshadowing me completely. He stood up straight on its feet, which looks exactly like paws to me, with three claws on it and a circular brown pad on the underside of his feet. He comfortably pressed his belly forward and looked at me with his tiny eyes. He had a huge head, although his entire body was big as well, but I really thought he was so cute as a Pokemon with those two pointed teeth sticking out of his mouth. He then opened his mouth and raised his arms, which although were quite short, they were still long enough to grab objects and they still packed a punch when attacking, and did an action which resembled him doing pull ups in the air. 'Snorrrrrlax!!'

After his grunt, he happily sat down on the ground and lifted me up gently with his paws, to rest me on his shoulders. He then cuddled his huge face onto my face, showing affection to me again. I didn't tried getting off though, it was pretty comfortable and it felt like sitting on a soft pillow anyway. There was nothing much that I can do while waiting for my trainer to arrive anyway. Unlike places like Mt. Oktori, we didn't have teleportation devices here at Great Lakes. Perhaps the company was trying to save money, but Great Lakes is within walking distances from the registration outpost anyway. I waited patiently for my trainer to arrive as I saw on my Snorlax and allowed him to cuddle up onto me still.

"Snorlax, I missed you too! We haven't had much of a time together lately. But, you BETTER not get hungry in the middle of the run later. I'm going to have trouble finding you so much food in the middle of the run..." I warned my Snorlax, both jokingly and seriously. Once Snorlax gets hungry, it becomes extremely problematic due to his incredible appetite. Snorlax chuckled in response and nodded his head a little not too reluctantly.

OOC: Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry for the lateness, I totally forgot that I even signed up :x I’ll be more punctual from now on! Starmie’s ability is illuminate and Tentacruel has Clear Body.

    IC:
Sec whipped the pen in his hand across the bottom of a small piece of paper which a woman across a fairly large desk had placed in front of him. Finishing his signature, Sec handed the National Park entry form back to the receptionist with an eager grin.

It had been several months since Sec had been in the park. The young man had been focusing a lot on his role as a father, his education, and his work for some time and thus had been unable to really do anything related to his Pokemon. The many creatures he owned had mostly become household pets, or helped with tasks around the house since there was never any time for exploring or battling anymore. Since his last adventure with Ranger Chainy through a lot of mountainous caves a few months ago had been the Pokemon’s lat adventure, they were all extremely excited to get out.

“Thank you, Mr. Sec, we’ve sent an E-mail to the ranger currently stationed at the Great Lakes outpost with all of your information. The Great Lakes are right down the road to the east of this office,” the perky, yet formal, receptionist stated as she took the form from Sec’s hand, “if you jut head down that road you’ll eventually reach a beach-like area and right away you should be able to see the outpost house where you’ll meet your ranger and begin your run.”

“Thank you very much,” Sec smiled in reply, “we’ll head down there now. Come on, Gengar.”

Sec motioned to the purple-furred, semitransparent, ghost Pokemon standing by his side. Sec usually had one of his Pokemon follow him around on expeditions such as this one. This time he had chosen Gengar to follow him around because he needed someone to carry his second backpack and Gengar was the only Pokemon he had brought that had arms. Sec often overstocked on healing items and park balls when he came to the park just to be safe, but this time he may have gone a bit overboard. He had purchased so many items to bring along this time around that he could barely fit them into two backpacks, let alone just the one that he typically brought.

As the two walked out of the registration office the glass door slowly glided to a close. Sec took a turn to the east, searching for the road that the receptionist had spoken of, and after spotting it began heading down the short trail to the lakes. As they progressed farther and farther down the trail towards the beach they slowly began to notice the surrounding trees dissipating, sand began to show up on the pavement below their feet, and the water along the horizon soon became visible. Finally after a few minutes of walking they were finally standing on the beach.

“That looks like the house we’re supposed to look for,” Sec mentioned to Gengar as he pointed to an official looking building just a little farther down the beach, “let’s hurry up and get there so we can get started!”

As the two of them lugged their item filled packs down the beach, they heightened their pace to a brisk walk, maybe even a jog. Suddenly Sec dashed towards the house, excited to finally knock on the door and head out on his next adventure.

    Ranger Ataro

    ---

Suddenly, I heard a knock on the door. I asked Snorlax to put me down while I went over to open the door. When I opened the door, I saw a man that was somewhat around my age, but he actually seemed to have a sense of great maturity too. We greeted each other with 'Hellos' and some short introduction, before we left the house on our run. I couldn't help but notice that my trainer had two backpacks; one backpack that he is holding; and the other one was carried by Gengar. It seemed almost amusing and funny to see a Pokemon carry a backpack, but it didn't seem to bother the Gengar at all. Like always, the Gengar's mouth was curled up into a cheeky grin.

I called out to my Snorlax to tell him that we were moving out, while he responded by nodding his head. He held out his huge paws and rested it on the floor, to push himself up as he lazily stood on his legs. Once he stood up straight, he was practically overshadowing us with his large body size and height. Although, I had to admit it does feel safer with Snorlax around me, due to his supreme bulk and powerful strength.

We walked out to the first area of the Great Lakes, where every trainer and their ranger will pass by definitely since this was the start point, and also the end point of a run. The weather was great; the warm and sunny weather, coupled with frequent windy breezes that managed to cool down the weather. I looked around and managed to quickly divide up the paths since it was pretty obvious. The paths had a distinct difference and I had done my homework before this anyway. I immediately got down to my job of introducing the areas to my trainers, while hoping that he wouldn't get bored when I was explaining the different areas and what generally would they hold.

"Well, you see, it seems like we have two options here. There is almost nothing on the left as you can see, except a yellow sandy path coupled with some scraggly bushes growing wildly here and there. However, that path actually leads to somewhere deeper in the Great Lakes, where you can get to see much more powerful Pokemon that the other areas living by the brutal and violent waterfall. Then, you have the middle area, which you can see, is just an area cluttered with many individual lakes and trainers. It is also our most common area that most trainers immediately go to. We would eventually get to explore both areas, but it'd depend on which area would you prefer to go to first. So which path do you want to take?" I asked Sec after I had finally finished explaining both paths.

I knew that the area on the left was actually rarely ventured. Although an entire Park run will eventually cover the entire area even though a trainer might decide to take another path first, I knew that many trainers avoided the left path. Even though the thought of strong, powerful, and rare Pokemon seemed pretty enticing to one, most trainers that came in preferred to go for the lower evolution of those species because they are easier to capture. It wasn't always this case though.

I've seen in some cases that trainers avoid the left path to find lower evolutions in the middle path, only to have that plan fail as well. For example, I knew of a trainer who was looking for a Gyarados, but decided to avoid the left path completely and look for a Magikarp in the middle path. In the end, he didn't even manage to find a Magikarp. I'd say the chances are random, but the thought of exploring a rather challenging area does seem pretty interesting to me. After all, I did feel safer with Snorlax by my side, so I wasn't too afraid. In fact, I've even heard rumors from my fellow rangers that there was a secret area near the waterfalls, although the Pokemon living there was especially rogue-like and extremely fierce. It was up to my trainer though.
