This was moved here to BMGf, from PE2K.

    "Elisa!"

"Yeah? What's up?" I asked our receptionist as politely and as not irritatedly as possible. It still came out in a semi-impatient and semi-bored tone of voice, though.

"There's a trainer in the Great Lakes who needs a replacement ranger, now. You go immediately," she ordered.

I sighed heavily. Our secretaries were constantly changing every one in a while. And if I thought Madison was bad - which I did, a little, by the way - this one was far worse. Madison was a rather flirty type of girl, but the new one was snotty, arrogant, bossy, and just plain unlikeable. That's considering I didn't mind our former receptionist that much. I didn't even know what her name was yet! Oh, and, yes, the boys were all heart-broken and stuff. Haha, more fun for Ivy and me!

"Hmm... The Great Lakes, huh? I haven't been there in a while," I said out loud, voicing out my thoughts thoughtfully - but not really that interested. "But, isn't--"

"Great, you'll do it! Trainer file, sent," she replied, running out of my office hurriedly. What's up with her? I thought.

"Hey, wait! I didn't agree on anything! Isn't there anyone else here?" I called after her desperately, in a very much begging tone. "Leo? Ivy? Chainy? Joe? Jack? Buzz? Or even our newest ranger?" I tried my best, but failed miserably. She shouted back a simple "No."

I sighed again, rolling my eyes. Fine then, I'd do it. And I wasn't even finished with all the paperwork I had to do. At least I wasn't going to one of the mountains again.

I looked at my wrist where my yellow-colored RDA - Ranger's Digital Assistant - was strapped around perfectly. It was currently in its wrist-watch-like form. I checked that the file was, indeed, sent with one push of an orange button. I decided I would read about him later on.

I began stuff my brown shoulder bag with Pokedolls, Emergency Supplies, as well as a notebook. I looked at the Pokeballs on my office's desk, deciding on which of my Pokemon I would bring. One of them had to be a water type. After a few moments of debating with myself, I finally decided on three. And they were Kipper, my Swampert, Azalea, my Azumarill, and Icabella, my Glaceon.

I went straight to the Docks itself, coming from the Ranger Outpost. I called out Kipper from his housing. He greeted me happily, growling as he stretched his muscles and limbs - he hadn't been out of the red-and-white sphere in a while now. I hopped on to him, telling him to go to the Great Lakes. I figured surfing - as they all like to call it - my way there would be faster than flying, or running. And I was right. We got to the Lakes' river in no time at all.

"Great job, Kipper! You really are the best," I told my Swampert, praising and thanking him as I patted his neck appreciatively. I returned him to his ball before taking a look around the area.

The zone was amazingly beautiful, just like how I remembered it the last time I had gone here. That was on my first run as a ranger, taking over an expedition from one of my colleagues, Joe. My first and most recent run are both in the Great Lakes, where I'm just a replacement ranger. Cool, but weird in some sense.

I took a quick glance at his file, learning that his name was Sam. He had brought a Linoone, a Swampert, and a Lanturn. In my own personal opinion, it wasn't the best three choices - but I guess it wasn't too bad. At least he had two part-water types that would be useful when battling in water, and not just on the damp grass. The file also said that his original ranger left him while he was in mid-battle with a Poliwag.

That should be easy enough. My sky blue eyes scanned the area again, looking for a lone male trainer that had either a Swampert, Lanturn, or Linoone, and was battling a Poliwag. I spotted him soon enough, walking quickly over.

I tapped him on the shoulder, saying a quick hello. I then introduced myself, keeping it short and simple. I really wasn't that good with introductions, and I liked to keep them short and pretty much straight to the point.

I stepped aside, giving some "breathing room" for Sam and the battle at hand. I strained my eyes to see through the thick mist, which - I figured - was done by the Poliwag.

The Lanturn's orb-shaped antennae were glowing a bright yellow color. I glanced at her with a rather confused expression on my face. I did not know any attack that this creature knew that was performed in this manner. I went through a list of all the attacks a Light Pokemon could possibly learn in every plausible way, as well as all the information I knew about the entity. Then, I remembered the ability Illuminate, it was one a Lanturn could have - the other being Volt Absorb. That was it! Pretty thoughtful of the trainer to remember the ability of the Pokemon, no?

The yellow light helped. However, it did not completely clear out the fog. It was lifting, and was definitely thinner now, though - which was a good thing. Well, it was better than nothing.

Delta, as Sam called her, began to gather energy for her next move. Her antennae were glowing again, this time in the color of purple. A purple aura floated around her, which soon formed into a ray of bright violet light. It zapped straight to the Tadpole Pokemon, who was taken aback by the sudden, though light, impact. It affected the target mentally, causing him to become very dazed and dizzy.

With a confused expression on his face, the wild creature swam about in circles, swishing his tail back and forth. He seemed to be focusing on the Lanturn through the thinning mist, then charged at her. In a moment, he had began to slap her with all his might - using his tail. The hits were consecutive, each of them dealing a mild amount of damage. Fortunately for the teen's Pokemon, she had only been slapped thrice.

The Water type swam back, away from the Lanturn, as he prepared another move. He looked back at the enemy, making sure to make eye-contact, then his eyes began to glow a bright blue hue. Suddenly, circular rings, which were slightly transparent, began to emerge from the pupils. They were light blue in color, a bit like my eyes, and were headed straight for the Water-Electric-type.

"Watch out! That's a Hypnosis attack!" I quickly shouted to Sam, warning him of Poliwag's latest move. If the trainer would not act fast enough, those rings should soon find their way to his Pokemon - affecting her.

I looked across to my Lanturn, which was calmly inspecting the small Pokémon which resembled a tadpole. It had just hit the Poliwag with a DoubleSlap, and was looking a little worse for wear than Delta was, being confused and all. The lakes were becoming stiller and stiller as this small rest period increased. The ripples surrounding the two battling Pokémon were slowing. All was calm.

"Good job, Lanturn! You're doing great so far!" I called out, in order to raise its spirits - I knew it could be a bit lonely sometimes, and wanted to keep it happy. I then turned to look at my Park Ranger, Elisa. "Hey, Elisa? On second thoughts, I want to give up my chances on Poliwag, I don't want it so much now. Am I free to go and find some more-"

I was cut out by the Poliwags sudden attack on Lanturn. Its eyes were glowing a bright blue hue, and circular, spiraling rings were emitting from them. It was a Hypnosis attack!

"Delta!" I commanded. "Duck under the water to dodge the attack!"

    OOC: Bad dice roll. :/

    BP#2

Sam decided against trying to capture the little Poliwag. Usually, when a trainer would say yes to a wild entity, they would push through with the battle. Though, there have been some incidents in which they had second thoughts - as was the case with the teen I was accompanying.

He must have had a change of heart, either way, he quickly shouted out another command to Delta as the blue-colored rings came closer and closer. "Delta! Duck under the water to dodge the attack!"

That seemed like a rather reliable and creative way of avoiding the assault. A great way to make use of the surroundings and the environment. See, that's why bringing Water-types here wasn't a bad idea - you'd be able to utilize the lakes and rivers here.

The Lanturn ducked down under the surface of the lake... Barely managing to avoid the Hypnosis. It was fortunate that Sam had called out to her in the nick of time. A second later, and it would have been too late. They would have made contact already, thus causing her to become drowsy. Luck was on their side, though, which was a good thing.

I could just barely see the dark, moving silhouette of Sam's Pokemon as it swam its way underwater. The Poliwag, meanwhile, upon having noticed its target had escaped, began to pace-slash-swim about frantically. In a confused manner, he climbed onto the grass surrounding the big pond - trying his best to focus on the water.

He was so dazed, that as he tried to pinpoint where the Light Pokemon was, he gathered power for an attack instead. Both creatures' lucky stars must be shining, though at different points in time. The Water-Electric-type broke the surface of the waterform, popping her head out to check on everything.

Wrong timing for her, unfortunately. The wild being fired off his attack, which was a barrage of brown-colored slushes. The orbs were being released from his mouth repeatedly and continuously. But then, the tables turned. Confusion took over the little Tadpole Pokemon, causing him to attack himself instead.

I looked on with pity, watching the poor thing damage himself - not even really knowing that he was doing so. Delta managed to avoid the muddy spheres that had been sent her way as she dived back into the lake.

Now, the opponent curled himself into a very tight ball. A blue aura began to envelope him, as if toughening up his exterior. The energy continued to surround him for a few more moments... And when it had slowly disappeared, the Poliwag stood up - looking as though he could endure incoming attacks better than before.

"Sam, if you do want to move on, then we can," I told the trainer, nodding. I started to walk away, leading him towards another pond.

"Poli-wag! Wag!" the creature called after us, evident sadness in his voice. He ran after us, tumbling a bit with his small feet.

"Our little Tadpole friend is still here," I said, pointing out the obvious. I turned to face the boy, asking him sincerely, "Are you sure you want to walk away?"

If his answer would be a no, then I wouldn't pressure him. I was, after all, just a "tour" guide. If he would say yes, then so be it, too. In either case, I'd be pretty happy and cool about it, so no need to worry or anything. As for the Poliwag, well, we'll just have to wait and see...

The ranger told me that I was allowed to leave the Poliwag alone, in an attempt to find (and possibly capture!) another Pokémon. I had walked away from the first lake we had visited, bringing Delta back into its Pokéball. I walked behind Elisa, anxious to find another Pokémon to battle. However, after taking just a few steps the Poliwag persisted, running after me with its tiny feet - it almost looked comical.

"Okay," I said to my ranger. "I'm gonna walk away again. I really don't want it!"

"Okay," Sam replied slowly, and a bit hesitantly. He looked at the Water-type, eying him carefully as we took some steps back. "I'm gonna walk away again. I really don't want it!"

I nodded quickly, dashing off with the trainer following. Suddenly, though, I remembered Delta - she was still in the big lake. I kept running, but doubled-back once I had thought of a plan.

"Okay, Sam, since he's already confused, let's try to lose him by going round in circles," I suggested. "We can't leave your Lanturn in that pond, you know."

I wasn't able to see if he nodded in acknowledgment or not, but I put my scheme into action nevertheless. We sprinted around the border of the great pond multiple times, with the Tadpole Pokemon still chasing us.

I didn't know how long I'd be able to keep on doing this... I looked back over my shoulder to check on the trainer, and he seemed to be tired as well. I averted my gaze from him to the creature speeding towards us.

"Come on, come on..." I murmured under my breath, crossing my fingers. It looked as though he had heard us for, a moment later, he had stumbled dizzily. He rolled into the lake with a soft splash.

I inhaled a sharp intake of breath for two reasons - one, I was definitely exhausted; and, two, I was relieved to see that my tactic had worked, one way or another. That Poliwag certainly did have a lot of stamina...

"Okay, now, I think we are safe," I said, midst a small smile. "Would you like to continue circling these bigger lakes here, or go over to that river?" I pointed over to a rushing stream, which was a good distance away from the larger of the lakes here. It would only take a few moments' time to walk there, though.

Something, or someone, bumped into my leg - seemingly tugging on my jeans. I looked down, and almost squealed with delight. I crouched down, not minding that my clothing would get a bit dirty. "Hey, there, little guy..." No matter how many times I've seen creatures like these, and the first one being my own starter, they never failed to "captivate" me with their cuteness and adorableness.

But who were they - it, in this case - to be exact? Well, it was a small, blue, amphibious Pokémon. It head a rather large head, along with a wide mouth. Black-colored, beady eyes looked at me with an unreadable, yet cute, expression. Orange, star-shaped external gills were positioned both sides of its cheeks. It also had a fin on the top of its head, as well as a light-blue fin for a tail.

"Any interest in this Mudkip, Sam?" I was pretty sure I already knew the answer, as he already had a Swampert. It was Park Policy to ask, though, thus I did.

OOC: Sorry I took FOREVER, I completely forgot :x

We were about to encounter something new. It approached our team of two as we wandered around, in desperate search of a new Pokémon. It ran through the long blades of grass, a rustling sound being created as it sprinted towards us. It almost went unnoticed; it wasn't exactly camouflaged so much as extremely well hidden. It was only as I saw that the grass shake rapidly as it drew ever closer that I was about to find another Pokémon. It emerged from its cover of the lush greenery, and burst out in front of us. Elisa had not noticed the creature, even though it had it made its presence quite noticeable, though I had begun examining it. It was a creature that I had owned before it evolved into something that I even took into the National Park - a Mudkip. The colour of its skin had contrasted the translucent hue of the beautifully calm and tranquil stream just a few yards away. It looked happy to bump into a pair of trainers, and the wide grin on its face also deepened this thought. It's bright orange parts of its anatomy differed greatly from the rest of its body in both shape and colour; The spiky gills on either cheek were an unusual sight compared to the smooth, curvy form of the water-type.

It ran up to my ranger, Elisa, and tugged gently on her denim jeans, slightly dirtying them. In addition to this, it let out its characteristic cry of “Mudkip!” before the young trainer looked down to the floor. She smiled, and let out a small squeal of pure joy – she had loved these amphibious creatures. I wondered why, before she answered my unspoken question.

“Mudkip was my starter Pokémon, ya see!” She told me cheerfully. “They always excite me a little when I find one!”

I chuckled a little bit, before focusing my attention to the Pokémon. “Have you got any interest in this Mudkip, Sam?” she offered. Of course, I could tell by the look on her face what the answer would be. I gave Alpha the Swampert a quick glance, before answering her question.

“Nah, I think I'll pass!” I said jokingly, before giving the cute, black-eyed water-type one last look, and walking away with Elisa.

OOC: No worries ^^ Sorry about the dice roll, though.

Sam chuckled. “Nah, I think I'll pass!” he answered as he gave the cute wild Water-type one last glance, before turning away.

I nodded, following suit. We began to walk away while Delta was still circling the pond in a lonely manner. I turned to the trainer, suggesting to return the Lanturn to her Pokeball.

"Kip!!" A shout - or a squeal, rather - rang in my ears as my eyes caught sight of the Mudkip nipping at the male teen's jeans. When he looked down, the creature almost immediately jumped up - heading straight for his arms.

Sam managed to catch him, though, just barely. It rubbed itself against the trainer's shirt for a moment. Then, with one look around him, leaped once more. It headed straight for the Water-Electric-type, tackling her with a rather loud thud. Fortunately, the attack wasn't strong enough to push her down into the water, though it did cause a few waves to crash around her.

The Mudfish Pokemon now jumped back, landing on its feet on the damp grass as the Light Pokemon let out a cry of surprise. She glanced at her new companion for a brief moment before seemingly smiling. She didn't seem to have that many friends, after all - or maybe it was just her nature to be lonely.

Either way, the small entity was eager for a battle - though Sam wasn't. He didn't seem to be the kind of trainer who wanted more than one of a sing specimen of Pokemon. And I couldn't blame him. Especially since this Water-type was a lively one, one Swampert would be enough - for me, at least. I was pretty sure the teen thought the same.

"Well, it looks like our little friend here wants to stay... What are you going to do now?" I asked him, looking at the eager Mudkip with a raised eyebrow. My Swampert had never been as energetic as this little guy...

OOC: Damn you and your rolls! ;) That's twice now!

    ----------

Walking away from my previous encounter, I had decided to find a new Pokémon which I had not seen before. It was then that Elisa had signaled to me that I needed to return Delta to her Pokéball. I glanced back across my shoulder to see her still happily swimming around across the circumference of the lake, smiling gently to herself. I called her name loudly, and she immediately stopped, her grin turning into a frown. She gave me a small dirty look before I threw her Pokéball - which had a small 'D' scripted onto the plastic - into the water and the Lanturn unwillingly swam into it. Walking back to the lake to collect the Pokéball, I thought about where the Mudkip was going to go. It looked somewhat lonely, and in need of a companion. I picked the ball from the murky surface of the lake, before drying it with part of my shirt, slightly dirtying it in the process, and stuffing it back into my pocket.

However, when I had called her name, this had alerted a Pokémon I had not wanted to see again - the Mudkip. The energetic amphibian ran towards me, before it reached me. I looked down to see it playfully scratching and biting my leg. For a slight moment I lost my concentration on the water-typed starter, and in that split-second it jumped up, right towards my face. My fast reflexes came in handy - I flung both of my hands together to catch the Mudkip, and I was just in time. It was just millimeters away from launching itself into my head. It jolted me, knocking the Pokéball which I had just placed into my pocket, out of my pocket. Delta was released in another, much smaller pond. Believing that I had had a change in heart, he sprinted towards my fish Pokémon. Jumping off the bank, she thudded into the Lanturn. It didn't particularly harm Delta, but she looked extremely disgruntled. The previously calm water had begun to ripple.

The Mudkip struggled out of the water, on to dry land. It smiled at the Lanturn (who, by the way, seemed to prefer to be on its own), and began to hype itself up for a battle. However, Delta managed to keep her cool and remain still, not willing to attack.

"Well, it looks like our little friend here wants to stay... What are you going to do now?"

I looked at Elisa and grimaced. "Well," I said. "I still don't want it, to be honest. Let's give the 'run away' option another try, ey?"

I winked at her, and began a slow jog away from the Mudkip, fully knowing I would have to track back at some stage to collect Delta.

Well," Sam said and grimaced. "I still don't want it, to be honest. Let's give the 'run away' option another try, ey?"

"Okay, but let's just hope this energetic creature would tire out soon enough."

He began a slow jog away from the Mudkip, and I followed suit. I knew, though, we would have to retrace our steps later so the trainer could recall Delta to her Pokeball. Hopefully, by that time, the Water-type would have given up on us already...

As we ran like from the Mudfish Pokemon the same way we ran from the earlier Poliwag, I couldn't help but cross my fingers behind my back. The wild entity had certainly shown its liveliness earlier on - and it seemed to be the type who wouldn't get worn out very easily.

Every now and then, for a couple of minutes, I looked back to check on the Mudkip. It always seemed to be right at our heels, and as the chase wore on, I was slowly - bit by bit - beginning to lose hope... Until...

"Marsh-tomp! Tomp!" a loud, rather furious voice roared out. I spun around, surprised. I saw a Water-Ground-type - a Marshtomp, the evolved form of Mudkip.

The Water-type who had been enthusiastically chasing us had abruptly stopped running as well. It turned around quickly, dashing to the larger organism. The Marshtomp was now seemingly scolding the young Mudfish Pokemon in their language.

"Well, at least we don't have to worry about that little guy now," I told the male teen as the duo trotted away. I led him back to the pond where his Lanturn had been left behind.

"Alright, Sam, where would you like to go next?" I asked. "Shall we head to the river or continue exploring these ponds and lakes?"

My slow, gentle jog began to pick up pace as it began to become apparent that this unwanted monster was beginning to chase us, putting more and more pressure on us not to stop running. We followed a similar approach to the one we took with my first encounter - Poliwag. We ran one hundred meters, two hundred, three hundred, even more. We were determined not to allow the Mudkip to keep chasing it, and it was certainly putting up an extremely valiant effort to join my team. It just wouldn't understand that I didn't want it on my team, that I already had an evolved form of it on my team. I glanced across to Elisa, who I seemed to notice had her finger snugly wrapped around themselves, in any attempt to gain just a little extra luck.

This chase continued for another couple of tiring minutes. Although it wasn't the most fun thing to be spending my time on, it was definitely the excitement I was looking for by travelling to the park. Running through the tall blades of grass, surrounded my nature - it was a lot to take in all at once. It would be an amazing and beautiful place to explore and discover. But the main focus now was to evade the Mudkip and continue through the lakes. This looked unlikely though as my partner was exhausted; she was panting and sweating, and was slowly beginning to decelerate, almost giving up. I slowed too, to keep her company. It looked like we were going to have to battle this Mudkip in the end, as running away seemed not to do the trick.

It was then when fortune finally struck us. Out from the cover of the grass jumped a Pokémon, aesthetically similar to the one giving chase to us, although it had some differences. For one, the tone of blue which appeared on its skin was a much lighter, more pastel shade of teal. It seemed much longer - or taller, depending on which way you looked at it - and crawled around on all fours, almost stealth like. I almost instantly recognized it as a Marshtomp - the stage between a Mudkip and a Swampert. It usually looked happy, but this one had an angry sort of look to it.

Looking behind me, the Mudkip had began to slow down to a halt, looking much more timid than it had been more recently. It sprinted past us, back to what seemed to be a parent of the amphibian, and they both begun to furiously speak in their own, secretive tongue. The younger Pokémon gave one final desperate glance, before being led away by the Marshtomp.

"Well, at least we don't have to worry about that little guy now," Elisa said almost cheerfully as we began to walk back to the lack which Delta was still swimming in happily. This time, she understood that we needed to go, and was put in her Pokéball with little argument.

"Alright, Sam, where would you like to go next?" my kind ranger had asked. "Shall we head to the river or continue exploring these ponds and lakes?"

"Uhh, I guess I'll stay here for a bit, to fully check out what these parts have to offer!"

"Uhh, I guess I'll stay here for a bit, to fully check out what these parts have to offer!" Sam answered cheerfully, looking around. I nodded, hoping the next creature we'd spot wouldn't want to chase us, unlike the earlier two.

My eyes scanned the surroundings as well, keeping a sharp look-out for anything, and everything, that could be the next wild entity. At first, I didn't see nor hear anything - not even a rustling it the bushes nearby. I walked onwards, motioning for the male teen to follow. There had to at least be one Pokemon around here somewhere. The last time I had been to this zone of the National Park, the ponds and lakes were - practically - splashing with wildlife... Now, it was all peaceful... Too serene, even.

"Hmm, that is quite odd," I stated plainly, looking around once more. "Not much creatures here today."

And no sooner than when I had uttered the last word, that tranquil silence had been broken. By what? By a loud - and vehement, even - splashing sound. I whirled around, my hand immediately into my pocket - ready to call out any of my Pokemon if need be.

What we saw was rare sight to see, though perhaps not everybody would want to see a rather angry- or annoyed-looking eel-like Pokémon, which resembled a lamprey. It had a long tentacle-like, finned limb extending from its head - this made the organism look even more frightening, in my opinion. It had red eyes, a dark blue body, and it possessed clawed, paddle-like arms with yellow spots and yellow-and-red palms. The EleFish Pokemon had a beige fin on the upper portion of its body as well as beige fin-like legs below. In fact, in its angry demeanor, it looked much like a Gyarados.

"Interested in an Eelektross, Sam?" I inquired, still keeping a weary eye on the Electric-type. "A rather angry one, at that," I added as I forced a small, hopefully reassuring smile.

    OOC: Sorry o__o

Everything around us was eerily peaceful. From what I had heard from Elisa, this was quite uncharacteristic of the park, and quite a weird sight. Wild Pokémon were usually splashing around playful, crying in delight. But this little part of the park we were in was odd, to say the least. We continued walking, looking out almost desperately for one of the elusive creatures. And then, we heard it.

We snapped our necks around to look at the Pokémon as we heard a few quick, violent splashes, but we saw nothing. Until it quickly re-emerged from the depths of the lake it was coming from. It was a large, monstrous species. Although it certainly looked like it would be a Water-Type, it was in fact Electric, taking the form of a lamprey or an eel. It had a circular mouth, with four spiked teeth pointing downwards from the rim of its also circular lips. It took on a mostly deep blue colour, but this was contrasted with a few hints of a pale yellow on its underbelly, and also dotted around in a couple more places. Once it left the water, it began to glide across to me threateningly, zigzagging from left to right. Elisa noted that the Eelektross looked somewhat like an angry Gyarados.

"Interested in an Eelektross, Sam?" Elisa had asked me. And the answer was yes, I did want it. But looking in my small collection of items, it seemed I didn't have an Parkball which could do the job and capture it. This had annoyed me, as it was a Pokémon I had quite wanted. A sad look adorned on my face, I shook my head and asked to continue onwards. Our next challenge was to try and escape the lamprey without it chasing us, much like the other two Pokémon we encountered had.

The trainer peered into his bag, seemingly checking his items. At first, I was confused, but then I realized something. Either he was checking if he had brought a camera (for rare pictures like these sell for a reasonable amount of cash), or whether or not he had the right kind of Parkball to attempt capture later on (a Hyperball would be needed for this kind of creature). Either way, the answer was 'no'.

Sam looked back at me with a disappointed and quite annoyed look on his face. He shook his head sadly, moving on. I nodded in understanding and lead him away. Fortunately, this time, the Electric-type did not bother to go after us. She simply dove back under the surface of the water.

We continued to explore the surrounding lakes, and all was quiet once again. I led my trainer to the body of liquid the EleFish Pokemon had been in, hoping we would see another sign of life in the unexpectedly rather large lake. Nothing, and so we turned around.

However, we heard a splash. I felt a surge of hope run through my bloodstream. Turning on my heel, I looked down to see a small, white, eel-like Pokémon with a red cross comprising a mouth. Its eyes were oval-shaped and dark. Further down its body, it had a yellow stripe and a long fin membrane, which gave its body a tapered shape.

"The Eelektross was probably being a protective parent of this young creature here. A Tynamo, would you want to battle it?" I asked the male teen. I wasn't sure what the earlier mother or father's reaction would be if he did try to battle it. Still, it was Park Policy to offer any and all Pokemon a trainer could encounter on his or her run.

    Muddy Mudkip

I desperately continued to try to find the desired capturing device which I so desperately wanted to find. An Eelektross was one of a handful of Pokémon which I had wanted to encounter while at this serene location. I searched around in the shallow pile of park items which were located in my rucksack, fishing around the jumble of my equipment; Parkballs, Type Repellents and Super Potions were all being thrown around, before it finally dawned on me that I hadn't packed a Hyperball. I hadn't even bough a camera with me – I had heard that photographs or videos of rare Pokémon sold for quite a reasonable amount around these parts, and that photos of legendary Pokémon sold for an even higher price! I'm not sure how my Pokémon would have been able to handle one of the strongest creatures known to us; I hoped I would be able to meet them, but maybe when my Pokémon had been taught more powerful moves, or become more trusting with me.

I finally resigned to the fact that I didn't own a Hyper Ball, and started to zip my bag again. Throwing the light bag over my shoulder, I began to focus my attention on the floating lamprey I so badly wanted on my team. It still had an intimidating look on its face, almost like it was prepared to attack us at any given moment. I was wearing a look of disappointment on my face, upset that this marvellously powerful Pokémon was about to evade my capture. It would have considerably boosted the overall strength of my team, and filled a vital hole – I had lacked electric-types. Both me and Elisa were getting slightly unnerved by the creature, calmly floating from left and right, angry look etched onto its face. The fin extruding from the back of its head, not unlike a tentacle, was flowing in time with the creatures movements, albeit in another direction. Its heavy arms swung from side-to-side, the claws on this long limb glistening brightly in the sunlight, slightly dazzling me. The red, circular mouth of the lamprey was growing wider before shrinking to its regular size with every deep breath that it took.

Finally, one of us made the first move. Just as it looked like it was going to attack us, it swiftly turned around and proceeded to sink back down into the crystal clear lake that it had appeared from beforehand. Its body could be seen lowering into the large body of water, and it was met by a cluster of new Pokemon, some similar in sight to the Eelektross, and others who were much smaller, and looked almost nothing like the eel. It was difficult to see from up here, but it looked like a new species that I hadn't discovered previously. I wanted to check it out, but that would have to come later; I had to continue onwards, to find a new companion who could accompany me on my dream of becoming champion.

Seeing my obvious interest, Elisa questioned me whether we should have a look at the lake which the monster had appeared from, so we walked towards the liquid. It was a wonderful sight; you could see normal fish swimming at the depths of the pool, gracefully gliding just inches from the lake bed. I would assume normally that it would be made even more wondrous by the sight of them mixing with the Pokémon I was aiming to capture, but alas, there were none to be found. The Eelektross and his friends had vanished from plain sight, probably nesting in some of the short seaweed at the bottom. Disappointed, we turned our backs on the body of water, hoping to find something rare elsewhere, before we heard a sharp slashing sound. Our heads twisted round in unison, excited that we may have found something else with so little effort. The rest of our bodies followed suit, turning towards the lake. That was when we found the slender white Tynamo. It also hovered a few inches from the floor, much like the Eelektross, before it dawned on me that this small creature evolved into one. I hadn't seen a Tynamo first-hand, and since it was a recent discovery, only knew very little, but I certainly wanted to capture it.

It was quite cute looking, its oval eyes looking extremely innocent as it floated there. It was odd to see one alone, as they travelled in large groups the majority of the time, much like schools of fish. The aquatic Pokémon must have been the child of Eelektross, and as much as I wanted it, there were most likely to be consequences for snatching the creature away. I had been longing for the baby Pokémon for a long time however, and had decided to take the risk by going for the capture. I looked over at Elisa, and she seemed to confirm my suspicions.

"The Eelektross was probably being a protective parent of this young creature here. A Tynamo, would you want to battle it?" she said. I gave her a smug grin, because I thought I wouldn't get this oppurtunity again. “Okay,” I said, deliberating and which Pokémon to choose. I whipped my Pokedex from a side pocket in my bag, to find out its weaknesses. I opened it, and with a ding, it instantaneously opened all of the information I needed.

“Swampert, I choose you!” I called, grabbing a Pokéball. It had a small letter A inscribed into the plastic, so I could distinguish it from my other Pokemon. I firmly held the ball, before chucking it several feet in front of the Tynamo. Out came Swampert, in all of its beastly glory. It slowly crawled towards Tynamo, trying to frighten it a little, but the Tynamo was unaware, and just continued looking blankly, straight ahead. I looked at it, and commanded Swampert to use Hammer Arm. It had used this attack many times before, and instinctively began charging power into its front right arm, preparing to unleash this energy onto the young opponent. It was sure to deal a lot of damage, and so I prepared for it to hit the white Pokémon sweetly.

He looked at me with a big, smug grin, which I immediately took as a definite "yes". Considering his eagerness in encountering the earlier EleFish Pokemon, as well as his disappointment in learning that he hadn't brought the right kind of Parkball - a Hyperball - to attempt capture (not even a digital camera that he might take a photo of the rare entity for a cool amount of cash), I was about a hundred percent certain that he would want to battle this Tynamo. The only thing that could have held him back was the fact that this Electric-type was the offspring of that rather enraged-looking Eelektross. Well, now I had my answer - Sam was going to battle the creature, no matter what the consequences might be.

“Swampert, I choose you!” the trainer called as he threw out a red-and-white-colored orb. It released his Water-Ground-type starter Pokemon - a species that also happened to be my first partner (or, at least, its pre-evolution, Mudkip). Electric-types were weak to Ground-typed attacks, indeed, but considering this was a baby Tynamo, how much damage could it really sustain from a super effective move?

Sam commanded Alpha to use a Fighting-typed attack, called Hammer Arm. Ironically, the Mud Fish Pokemon lifted up, not an arm, but a foreleg. This limb began to glow a bright white hue full of energy. I believed it was one of the better choices they had to use on the wild EleFish Pokemon. Why? Well, first, the move did not receive the so-called STAB, or Same-Type-Attack-Bonus. Also, it would not be very effective on the enemy based on typing, so as not to knock it out. Lastly, it was a strong assault that did not have much of a downside - compared to their other choices, Tackle and Take Down, wherein the user would only lose health due to recoil damage in the latter, Swampert would only slow down after executing Hammer Arm, while still having quite a lot of speed to spare. Err, well, on second thought, that species of Pokemon was quite slow compared to others while the Electric-type was rather fast - as all Electric-types were. They had the same amount of Speed, now that I think about it. The only risk - he might accidentally crush the baby creature in the process. Considering his nature, he was more prone to give everything he's got, so, in a way, he might hurt the opponent quite badly.

I had sort of zoned out, staring off into the distance, analyzing the trainer's order. Next thing I knew, I heard a howl of pain. My eyes shot downwards immediately to the pond in front of us - blue-colored orbs catching sight of a powerful glowing arm slamming down onto the Electric-type. Due to the force of the impact, waves emerged from left and right, rocketing the originally still, serene waters.

The Water-Ground-type hadn't crushed the Tynamo, fortunately. However, it was rather hurt and had taken a hard blow. It seemed to stare right back up at him, intentions of avenging itself clear in its young eyes. To it, it was a serious game - as if it meant life or death, which, in a way, it did.

It began to charge up, electric sparks surrounding its small body. Well, now we really knew for sure this was a baby Pokemon. It had yet to learn these types of attacks would have no effect against Ground-types, like Swampert. Or, it could be, it did not know that the teen's partner was a Ground-type. The wild creature jumped, enveloped in yellow electricity, swiftly flying forwards. It crashed into the foe, yet dealt no threat to his health. It cringed, wailing angrily - its small figure was already injured from the Fighting-typed assault, and now it was hurting even more due to how much force it had put into the, ahem, worthless impact. I looked down, lips sealed, containing my pitying laughter as the Spark attack did nothing to the Mud Fish Pokemon. I thought the male teen was grinning in triumph - who wouldn't be?

"Ty-na-mooo!" it growled indignantly as it saw its attempt had failed. It splashed its tail against the water, thrashing about. For a young entity, I must say, it was rather hyper and energetic. It leaped into the air, pushing itself forwards. In one quick movement, despite its aching body, it smashed into the bulk of the foe. Alpha's body almost seemed to just have reflected the tackle - the EleFish Pokemon bouncing back effortlessly.
