"Alright, we're taking off to the lakes again." I said to Shadow, my Houndoom and most trusted Pokemon. "Looks like we have someone interested in going to that location. I only agreed to take this run so we can go scout out the area for any Phione. You know my brothers and I are still looking for that damn Pokemon. I don't know why we haven't come close to tracking it down yet. I am a bit disappointed, hope all this work hasn't been for nothing and that Phione isn't even in this area. Shadow just let out a low bark and brought me my backpack. It had a couple of supplies in it for me to sell to my trainer if needed, but the rest of the stuff was my tracking supplies.

I was going to bring Tentakil, my Tentacruel, Skydive, my Crobat, Smokescreen, my Kingdra, and Scamper, Cameron's Lucario to help me search for Phione. Of course we were still focused on the Trainer and his expedition here, but in my head this searching mission came first, I just wasn't going to show it though.

The trip to the lakes was fairly quick. We were there in less then half an hour. Once we got there, I saw that my Trainer still hadn't arrived yet. That was a good thing, it let me start the tracking mission early. "Alright guys, get out there and start looking. We need a Phione tracked so we can capture it. Find the location and report back. If you see any trouble, report that too. When the day is over, I'll reward you guys for this. "Okay, head on out now!"

"Now we wait Shadow." I said to the large hellhound. We sat back underneath a tree and waited.

I made my way to the Great Lakes. It was a fairly short walk from the Reception Office to the Great Lakes - the Lakes were adjacent to the Office and one of the closest areas of the National Park to the Lakes.

"Let's make this quick," I said to my Pokemon partner, Dragonite. She nodded in agreement - we were only here to find one Pokemon: Frillish.

There were a few other Pokemon native to the Lakes I wouldn't object to adding, but my primary target was Frillish. I had brought along a Pokeplayer and a Frillish Voice Disk specifically for this purpose. I took the items out of my backpack, and slotted the Voice Disk into the Pokeplayer. I hit play and a faint Pokemon cry began playing. I ignored it, and turned to Dragonite.

"I'll have you keep an eye out for Frillish," I said to her, and she nodded.

Meanwhile, I had to meet up with my Ranger. Almost on cue, I spotted a man resting underneath a tree. He was wearing Ranger equipment, and a Houndoom stood beside him. I figured this was my Ranger.

"Hey!" I called, walking up to him. I held out my hand. "My name's John Shay. I take it you are my Ranger?"

"Hey!" A voice called out to me. I looked up and saw a man walking over towards me. He held out his hand and said "My name's John Shay. I take it you are my Ranger?"

"That I am. I will be taking you through these lakes today. Not sure what you're after, but this first lake here usually has good stuff, we can start there." I said, leading the way towards our destination. I looked at his information sheet to check which Pokemon he brought with him. I saw a Dragonite, which was widely popular nowadays. I still didn't have a Dragonite, or at least not anymore. I was thinking of obtaining one, but I liked using Pokemon that nobody really used. He also brought with him a Venusuar. Hadn't seen too much of those Pokemon, but it was still good, although it would have a bit of trouble battling Pokemon in the water since it was so fat.

Once we got to the lake, I brought us over towards a boat and got us inside, we drifted out, keeping our eyes peeled for any Pokemon. So far, no luck, which was a bit unusual since by this time, Pokemon were already swarming us. A slight mist surrounded this one spot on the lake, which was a bit weird, but looked interesting enough for us to check out. As we got closer, I saw a blue balloon like figure floating in the middle. It was Jellicent. I turned towards my trainer and asked. "Interested in capturing this Pokemon?"

My Ranger nodded. "That I am. I will be taking you through these lakes today. Not sure what you're after, but this first lake here usually has good stuff, we can start there."

I nodded, and we quickly began going on our way. I liked this Ranger - he was quick and to the point, which was precisely what I was looking for in this situation. He led me down to the first lake, and I kept my eyes peeled. I wasn't going to waste any opportunity here.

Unfortunately, Pokemon seemed to be avoiding us. I hadn't been to the Great Lakes for a while, but surely Pokemon shouldn't be this scarce. I didn't keep track of the time, but by my estimation, typically a Trainer might even have encountered up to three Pokemon by now. Unfortunately, I had none.

I looked down to my Pokeplayer, which was still playing the Frillish Voice Disk. Was this affecting things at all?

My Ranger stopped in front of me, and I stopped as well. He was looking out to the lake, where there seemed to be a mist hanging over one area. He stepped closer to the water, then seemed to recognize something. "Interested in capturing this Pokemon?"

I stepped up and squinted. It was a big, blue balloon-like Pokemon - Jellicent, the evolved form of Frillish! Not exactly what I had been looking for, but I considered myself extremely lucky to have found it at as my first encounter. If I could capture this Pokemon right away, there was no need for me to dawdle around the Park any longer.

"Yeah, definitely," I responded, clicking off the Pokeplayer and putting it back inside my backpack. I turned to Dragonite.

"This is going to be your battle," I said. Dragonite nodded, and hopped off the ground. She floated out to the lake, not going too far away from the shore but making it known to Jellicent that Dragonite was his opponent.

"Let's start right away with an attack - use Thunderbolt!" I commanded. Dragonite began charging electricity between her antenna. Thunderbolt was one of Dragonite's strongest Electric-type attacks. It would allow me to put a dent in Jellicent right off the bat, and establish some momentum. I found this to be the best way to take advantage of the Multiscale ability, which halved the damage taken from the first attack the user took.

"Yeah, definitely," He responded, and turned off his Pokeplayer. He took out a Pokeball and tossed it besides him. The large orange Dragon type Pokemon, Dragonite was the one to emerge. I figured that would be his choice, especially since we were in the middle of the lake where clearly Venusaur wouldn't be able to battle effectively. Although Dragonite can more than likely battle under water, Jellicent still had the advantage in this area, not only because he was a Water type in the water, but also because Jellicent knew this area quite well since it was in fact his home.

"This is going to be your battle," He said. Dragonite nodded in response and proceeded towards Jellicent. "Let's start right away with an attack - use Thunderbolt!" Starting the battle off offensively was often times the way I did things. Help speed things along in my opinion. Going defensive was good, but going offensive first often made it easier to get more damage in before the opponent get in any stat rises. Dragonite created yellowish green sparks around his body. He was charging up the attack. Thunderbolt was the strongest commonly used Electric move out there. Thunder is alright, but that accuracy is what makes it not as used as Thunderbolt.

Dragonite unleashed the attack at Jellicent shocking the jellyfish quite good. Jellicent took a second to recover, but not too long. The large fat invertebrate quickly brought up its defenses with Acid Armor. Jellicent didn't stop there, the Pokemon then switched to the offense and used Icy Wind. Icy Wind was not only super effective, it also slowed Dragonite down a bit. It was actually a good thing to do here in his case.

Dragonite fired the Thunderbolt at Jellicent. The electricity slammed into Jellicent, and the Pokemon winced, dipping a little. I nodded approvingly - things were looking good off the bat. As far as I could tell, the attack seemed to take roughly a quarter of Jellicent's HP away. That would offer me a lot more flexibility from here on out.

Jellicent took a second to recover from the attack, but only a second. Then, he made his move.

"Jellicent!" the Pokemon cried in a low voice. A thick liquid was secreted from his skin - barely visible over here. This was Acid Armor, a defensive move that raised Jellicent's Defense stat. This meant Physical attacks like ThunderPunch or Dragon Claw weren't options anymore, but given Dragonite's wide movepool, I still had plenty of options available to me.

Jellicent switched gears and attacked now. Opening his mouth, he blew a small gust of wind at Dragonite. It smacked right into my Pokemon's chest, but with Multiscale, I wasn't too concerned. Then, Dragonite shivered, slumping down a little. I frowned, now recognizing the attack. It must have been Icy Wind, an Ice-type attack that lowered Dragonite's Speed stat. Jellicent was pretty slow, so even after the Speed drop, we were basically on even ground. However, the more pressing problem was that this Jellicent was capable of Ice-type attacks. With Multiscale gone, Jellicent could wreck Dragonite with powerful Ice-type attacks like Ice Beam. I frowned - I couldn't let that happen.

"Dragonite, use Light Screen!" I commanded. Light Screen was a defensive move that, unlike Acid Armor, was used to protect the user from Special attacks. This should work out very well for me since most Ice-type attacks were Special. If Jellicent wanted to play a slow-paced, dragged out battle, I was game for that.

Dragonite's antenna lit up once again, this time shimmering gold. As she set up Light Screen, I made one more instruction.

"Dragonite, after Light Screen, use Thunder Wave!" I called.

Thunder Wave was a move that paralyzed the opponent, and that would return the Speed advantage to me. It was one I was very comfortable with, and while overall the battle would have to be slow-paced, having that advantage in my corner gave me a lot more flexibility in my strategy. On the off chance that the paralysis prevented Jellicent from attacking here and there, well, that would be an added bonus. Long-term, it should allow Dragonite to take a few less hits and also help to make Jellicent an easier capture.

John saw the potential damage another, stronger Ice attack could do to his Dragonite. Icy Wind more than likely would have done more damage, if not for two things. One, Jellicent didn't appear to put much power into the Icy Wind attack, because to me it seemed as if it could do much more damage. Either that or it was just weak, and if it was, then in my opinion, wasn't worth capturing. Of course you could train it, but it was always better to train a Pokemon while it was young in its basic stage, at least that was how I saw it. Like the saying 'you can't teach an old dog new tricks', which was slightly wrong, but it was the meaning I was after. The second reason was that Dragonite had the ability, Multiscale, which if Dragonite was at one hundred percent, then he would take minimal damage on whatever attack hit him first. That ability is what made Dragonite even more popular than it already was.

Anyways, John called out his next order of attacks. "Dragonite, use Light Screen!" He called out. Light Screen was a move that halved any special based attack, such as Icy Wind or Ice Beam, basically any move that would do some serious damage to Dragonite that was in the special category. "Dragonite, after Light Screen, use Thunder Wave!" Thunder Wave was a good choice. The move was an Electric attack, but did no actual damage to the opponent. Instead, it had about a twenty five percent chance to paralyze the opponent each time they moved. It also made the Pokemon easier to catch, and although he wasn't anywhere near ready yet, it was good to have already if it landed.

Dragonite quickly set up Light Screen and proceeded for Thunder Wave. Jellicent, however, was already on the move with its next attack. Jellicent's tentacles wrapped around Dragonite, sqeeuzing tighter and tighter each time Dragonite took a breath. Dragonite tried to break free, but couldn't, and Jellicent wasn't letting go anytime soon. Then, I saw Dragonite begin to create the electrical sparks around his body and I saw them flow into Jellicent's. The Ghost/Water type Pokemon slowly released his grip. Once he was loose enough, Dragonite broke free and moved back. Thunder Wave was successful, and thanks to that, he broke free.

Dragonite used Light Screen, forming a shimmering wall of golden energy around her. This would protect her from Special attacks, most specifically the Ice-type ones this Jellicent knew like Icy Wind or maybe even Ice Beam in a worse-case scenario. Dragonite should have an easier time sticking around longer with Light Screen in play.

My Pokemon moved on to the next move, Thunder Wave. This one would paralyze the opponent, slowing him down to the point where sometimes, they were unable to even pull off a move. This would give me a significant advantage, and basically render the Speed drop from the Icy Wind from earlier void.

However, Jellicent didn't give Dragonite an easy time getting the move off. He moved in and wrapped his tentacles around Dragonite. This was the Constrict attack - not one that was particularly fearsome, but it could make movement more difficult for my Pokemon.

In this instance, though, there was nothing to worry about. Thunder Wave didn't require any movement. Dragonite began charging electricity through her antenna once again, and by the time Jellicent realized what was going on, it was too late. Dragonite smacked the Thunder Wave into Jellicent at point blank range, and the Water Pokemon groggily released his grip. Dragonite took a few steps back to seperate herself from Dragonite and regroup, and Jellicent did the same, retreating a few yards deeper into the lake.

I looked at Jellicent, wondering if he was going to attack again. The paralysis would slow him down, and on occasion, lock him up completely. As I expected, Jellicent was too numb to make another move. That meant I could attack.

"Dragonite, let's use ThunderPunch!" I commanded. I knew Jellicent had the Defense boosts from Acid Armor protecting it, but in a slow-paced battle like this one, the damage was going to have to come slowly. I preferred to take my chances with the super-effective attack, though.

Dragonite nodded, and this time, electricity began running down her fist. She bent down, preparing to jump at Jellicent.

"Dragonite, let's use ThunderPunch!" John said. It appeared to be the best time to attack, right after Thunder Wave and paralysis as making its effects known to the opponent. Jellicent hadn't moved since Thunder Wave hit it, so Thunder Punch hit him pretty hard, but thanks to his defense boost, it wouldn't do anything that would cause him to faint or come close to fainting, at least not yet. Right after Dragonite struck, Jellicent struck back. I wasn't sure if he was planning this from the start, but it was good.

Jellicent shot a beam of ice at the Dragonite at point blank range. I was quite certain that it wouldn't knock the enormous beast out, but it would still do some damage, not as much though because of Light Screen. From the distance I was at, I could see that Dragonite was not frozen, which was good. John would have to be more careful now that the Jellicent didn't use Blizzard or another Ice Beam attack. I was quite certain Dragonite learned Roost, but I wasn't sure if this particular Dragonite knew that move. This battle was getting interesting, but it was also just about half over or so. It was going pretty well for John, at least right now it was, I hoped that didn't change.

Dragonite moved in, her fist crackling with electricity. She raised her fist at the Jellicent, and swung.

Too late, I noticed the gleam in the Jellicent's eyes. I cried for Dragonite to get back, but it was too late. Dragonite's ThunderPunch collided into Jellicent's side, and the Pokemon let loose a cry of pain. At the same time, however, Jellicent made use of the proximity between the two, not wasting the opportunity. She fired a point blank Ice Beam at Dragonite. The blast of ice smacked into Dragonite's chest, and my Pokemon cried out loudly.

"Dragonite!" she roared, rearing in pain.

I frowned, licking my lips nervously. Even with Light Screen active, a point blank Ice Beam was not something to be taken lightly. Dragonite retreated to my side, breathing heavily. There was a notable bruise on her chest, and she was clearly weakened. I frowned.

"Dragonite, use Roost!" I commanded. Roost was a recovery move that would replenish Dragonite's health. It also removed Dragonite's Flying attribute temporarily, reducing its weakness to Ice-type moves. It would allow Dragonite to get a quick breather in, and also recycle the Multiscale trait for another use.

Dragonite nodded, and curled down on the ground. She kept her eyes trained on the Jellicent, but began to recover slowly as Roost began to take effect.

"After Roost, use Hurricane!" I commanded. Hurricane was a pretty powerful Flying-type attack, and while it wasn't super-effective against Jellicent, at this point I didn't need a super-effective attack. I liked Hurricane's side effect a lot right now - a chance at confusing the target. For a battle like this which could take a long time, confusing the target made things much easier for me. Combined with the existing paralysis, it would make it very hard for Jellicent to damage Dragonite, allowing me to take my time breaking it down.

"Dragonite, use Roost!" John commanded. I knew he'd use Roost, it was the most logical move for him to do for many reasons. One, Roost took away the Flying type status of the user if they had it, and in this case it was most needed since Dragonite was double weak to ice. Now it would only be just weak to ice. It also recovered his health, enough so that it let Multiscale become useful again. Multiscale only worked with the user was at full health, so now that he was back at full health, he'd be able to take more damage.

"After Roost, use Hurricane!" He said. I wasn't quite sure where he was going with this move, but it would at least do some damage. It even had a chance to confuse the opponent, though I was unsure how that happened. Perhaps, since everything was blowing around some object would accidently get knock hard into Jellicent's head, temporarily disorienting him. I didn't know, that was just a guess.

Jellicent created a ball of dark plasma looking energy. The attack was called Shadow Ball, and it wasn't particularly effective, especially going up against a Multiscale Dragonite. The orb hit Dragonite, but the beast didn't seem too fazed by it. Instead, she released several cresent shaped objects that exploded and sent wind flying all over the place when they hit Jellicent. Jelllicent cringed a bit and moved back. I had a feeling it was going to use Recover, but instead, it created small blue balls of fire and launched them at Dragonite. It was Will-o-Wisp. That would be dangerous if it hit Dragonite because most of the time, Dragonite's relied on their strength, and burn crippled that. I was fairly sure of how John would react to this, so I just sat back and watched.

Dragonite closed her eyes for a few seconds, then returned to her feet. She had recovered a lot of health with that Roost - it looked like she was back to full health now. That meant Multiscale was active once again, which would give me a lot of cushion.

Dragonite prepared to use Hurricane, but Jellicent attacked first. He blew a ball of black energy at Dragonite - Shadow Ball. This was a Ghost-type attack, and I recalled that Jellicent was not only a Water-type, but a Ghost-type as well. It was no surprise he was proficient with a Ghost-type attack like Shadow Ball. Still, it was no problem - Jellicent wasn't much of an offensive threat, it was more of a defensive Pokemon. Dragonite was bulky enough to withstand it, and with Multiscale and Light Screen active, there was nothing to worry about here.

The attack zipped into my Dragonite, but bounced lightly off her flank. Dragonite shook the attack off, and began using Hurricane. She started flapping her wings, and a large gust of wind formed in front of Dragonite. The wind zoomed towards Jellicent, and slammed into the Pokemon.

"Jellicent!" he cried. I studied the Pokemon, but it didn't seem like Hurricane had confused it. Whatever - that was fine. I just needed to do damage, and Hurricane did that just fine. Confusing Jellicent would just have been a cherry on top.

Jellicent winced. It looked like I was getting solid damage in here - I could take my time and whittle the rest away slowly.

Jellicent slowly recovered and attacked again. A ring of small blue fireballs appeared in his mouth, and Jellicent blew the fireballs at Dragonite. I recognized this attack - it was the Will-o-Wisp move. It wasn't particularly accurate, but if it landed, it would burn the target. I frowned - that would be very bad for me if Dragonite had to deal with a burn.

    "Dragonite, use Safeguard!" I called.

Dragonite nodded, and a silver aura began forming around Dragonite. Safeguard was a defensive move that protected the user from all status ailments. If Dragonite could get it up in time, then Will-o-Wisp shouldn't be a problem.

"After Safeguard, let's use Waterfall!" I commanded.

Waterfall was a Physical Water-type attack. Being a Water-type himself, Jellicent resisted Water-type attacks and he also had the Defense boosts from Acid Armor. That meant there should be no risk of Knocking Out Jellicent in using Waterfall. In fact, it could very well do nothing to Jellicent. But, I had all the time in the world. I could take my time in getting Jellicent in capture range. Also, like Hurricane, Waterfall had a nifty side effect. Every once in a while, Waterfall would flinch an opponent. If that happened here, then I would not object at all.

"Dragonite, use Safeguard!" John called out. It was just as I had thought. Safeguard was a move Dragonite knew to prevent status effects from taking their tolls on the user. It was a good tactic, I was quite positive that it would work. Dragonite began to put up the safeguard. As the Will-o-Wisp reared in, I watched to see if the safeguard would work. When Will-o-Wisp hit and nothing appeared to happen to Dragonite, I assumed that Safeguard worked. John's next attack though, I wasn't too sure about. "After Safeguard, let's use Waterfall!"

Jellicent were known to have the ability Cursed Body, or Water Absorb. If it was Water Absorb, Waterfall wouldn't do any damage to Jellicent, but in fact it would actually heal him a bit. I was quite positive that John didn't want that, but there was nothing I could do since I couldn't interfere with the battle. On the plus side, it was a good way to make sure that he didn't knock out the Jellicent accidentally. A lot of trainers tried to whittle the health of a wild Pokemon down as low as possible, but they often times did too much and knocked out the Pokemon, which make it impossible for them to capture thanks to park guidelines or something like that.

Jellicent appeared to welcome the attack, which only further made me believe that it has the Water Absorb ability. This was confirmed when I saw a small blue aura surround Jellicent's body and some of the scratches disappear. It didn't heal much, but anything was better than nothing for him at this point. He didn't follow up with another attack, which led me to believe that it was paralyzed, though you couldn't be too sure with this Pokemon, since it could be another trick.

Dragonite swooped in, water surrounding his body. He slammed into Jellicent, but oddly, Jellicent didn't seem hurt by the move. Instead, he began glowing blue faintly, and some of the scratches that marked his body began to fade. I frowned. What was going on?

"Shit," I hissed under my breath, realizing what was happening. Jellicent were capable of having the Water Absorb ability - I had completely forgotten about that. It was an ability that healed the user when they were struck by a Water-type attack - like Waterfall. That meant my attack would have healed Jellicent just now, though from the looks of things, not enough to set me back too much. However, now Dragonite was only a few feet away from Jellicent after a failed attack. Jellicent had an easy opportunity to land a potentially big blow staring him in the face.

I held my breath, waiting to see what happened... only nothing did. It seemed Jellicent might have been fully paralyzed, a stroke of luck for me. Either that, or it was preparing a big attack. I figured I would rather be safe than sorry.

"Dragonite, use Fly!" I commanded. Dragonite nodded, and flew high up into the sky.

Fly was an attack that took time to set up before attacking. If indeed Jellicent was preparing a big attack, then Dragonite could wait it out in the sky. Then, Dragonite could attack at will, swooping down and striking.

"Dragonite, use Fly!" He commanded. Dragonite nodded, and flew high up into the sky. I always found this move to be a bit silly. Flying was something that they were already doing most of the times, like Dragonite here for instance. I wasn't sure who came up with the name for this move, but it was whatever. Dragonite was at a pretty safe distance up there in the sky, so she could probably easily dodge any incoming attacks from Jellicent so this was a good position for her. Jellicent still hadn't moved, which was quite odd.

As Dragonite began to swoop in, Jellicent finally began to move. It let out a gust of wind, the same attack that it had used earlier. Icy Wind. Fly still hit Jellicent, but with reduced damage. It was a good thing though, Jellicent still didn't look ready to be caught yet, even if fly hit with full force. It still had all that energy left. Jellicent then retreated underwater. I knew what move it was using now, Dive. This battle was more than half way over now though, it was a good thing too. I didn't want his Dragonite to be too tired to continue. After all, this was only the beginning of his run. His Venusaur would probably have to battle next, unless he wanted to risk using Dragonite again.

Dragonite flew up into the sky, and flew around lazily as she watched Jellicent carefully for any signs of an attack. However, Jellicent made no move to do anything at all. I found this odd, but waiting forever wasn't going to settle anything. I waited a few more seconds, then relented and gave the signal for Dragonite to attack.

"Dragonite!" she bellowed, pulling into a steep dive on a collision course with the unmoving Jellicent.

Just before Dragonite connected, however, Jellicent finally moved. He blew a gust of wind at Dragonite, reminiscent of an earlier attack. The Pokemon was using Icy Wind again. The move was enough to slow Dragonite's descent, but Dragonite still smacked into Jellicent with some respectable oomph to his attack.

"Well done, Dragonite!" I said as she returned to my side. Remarkably, she was only a little damaged, after all we had been through already. We had handled this battle very well.

"Dragonite!" my Pokemon roared, pointing out to the lake. I turned my head to see what was going on, and I saw Jellicent slowly retreating beneath the water's surface. At first, I thought it was trying to escape and began panicking. Then, I realized that wasn't what was going on. It wasn't retreating further into the lake, only heading straight down. This was an attack - this was Dive.

I remembered a past experience with this attack, against the Gym Leader Juan of Sootopolis City. Our battle had stretched into a second hour, and it had been down to my Dragonite against his Kingdra. I had the upper hand, having landed a solid blow on Kingdra earlier in the battle, but as I went for the finishing blow, Juan had been able to counter.

"Dragonite, use Draco Meteor!" I commanded. "End it now!"

"Not so fast!" Juan cried, flinging his hand to the side. "Kingdra, don't give in so easily! Use Dive!"

Dragonite roared loudly, and flung a blast of blue energy at Kingdra. But, it was too late. The attack slammed harmlessly into the water - Kingdra had already submerged into the safety of the water.

Dragonite stumbled, dropping a few feet. The Draco Meteor had taken a lot out of her, and she was already fatigued from the length of this battle. But, Kingdra was just as exhausted, if not even more. We still held the upper hand.

"Dragonite, don't let it escape!" I cried. "We're so close to winning! We'll just have to find Kingdra ourselves! Use Reflect and fly over the water!"

Dragonite nodded, and a reflective barrier formed around he body. This was normally used defensively to reduce the impact of Physical attacks, but the reflective properties of the move would come in handy in a different way here.

Dragonite jumped, and began flying over the water. I kept my eye trained on her chest, where the reflection of the water was visible. If Dragonite flew over wherever Kingdra was hiding, I could find him!

Dragonite combed the water's surface, trusting me to find Kingdra. However, all I ever saw was the pool's floor. Kingdra was nowhere to be seen. Then, I saw the Pokemon. He was hiding in the corner of the pool!

"Dragonite, in the corner!" I called. Dragonite immediately snapped to attention. "Use Dragon Rush! End it now!"

"It won't be that easy!" Juan yelled. "Kingdra, attack!"

Kingdra launched himself straight up, flying out of the water and tackling Dragonite straight in the chest. My Pokemon cried out loudly, and flipped into the pool weakly.

"No! Dragonite!" I called. But, my Pokemon wasn't coming back up. She was drained.

"It's over," Juan said, a satisfied smile on his face. "Good job, Kingdra."

I dropped to my knees. How did this happen? I had the advantage throughout the battle, and I had even been able to find Kingdra hiding in the pool during Dive. I should have been able to finish that battle off!

"You could have won that," Juan admitted. "The Reflect strategy was very interesting, and I certainly did not see it coming. But, when you decided to chase after my Kingdra, it was over for you. Don't go looking for your opponent if he's hiding from you - wait him out. When the hunted is hiding from the hunter, the hunter should always wait his prey out. He is the predator, the one whom the prey is hiding from. The only way he can lose his prey is if he becomes impatient and falls into his prey's trap... becoming the prey."

Becoming the prey... Juan's words echoed in my ears. I wouldn't become the prey again.

Dragonite growled angrily, looking out to the lake for Jellicent. She hopped into the air, and began to fly towards the lake.

"No," I said calmly. Dragonite turned to face me, confusion on her face.

"We're not becoming the prey again, Dragonite," I said softly. "We're going to wait Jellicent out. He can't hide down there forever - we'll wait as long as we have to for him to show his head and expose himself. He will have to eventually, otherwise we're keeping him down there forever."

Dragonite nodded, calming down a little. I made my instruction. "Use Fly one more time! Stay up in the air until you see Jellicent, alright? Wait until Jellicent shows up, and then you attack! We're going to try and get into capture range with this next move!"

Dragonite nodded, rejuvenated by our strategy. She launched herself straight up, climbing the sky. I watched the water's surface, looking for any sign of Jellicent.

"Come out, Jellicent," I muttered under my breath. "You're still my prey."

"Well done, Dragonite!" John said to his Pokemon. It was always good to let your Pokemon know when they're doing a good job. In my opinion, it encourages them to try even harder. At least that is what I thought, even if it didn't a little positive reinforcement was always nice. His Dragonite noticed Jellicent was using Dive and alerted his partner, who immediately thought Jellicent was gone, but he caught on to what was going on and nodded. His Dragonite took off to peruse Jellicent.

"No," He said calmly. His Dragonite stopped and turned around to look at him, slightly confused. "We're not becoming the prey again, Dragonite. We're going to wait Jellicent out. He can't hide down there forever - we'll wait as long as we have to for him to show his head and expose himself. He will have to eventually, otherwise we're keeping him down there forever." I just assumed that it was something that happened in their past, since he said, again. Whatever had happened left them prepared for this, so in a way, it was good.

"Use Fly one more time! Stay up in the air until you see Jellicent, alright? Wait until Jellicent shows up, and then you attack! We're going to try and get into capture range with this next move!" This seemed like an okay plan. That way she could attack Jellicent without having to take the damage from Dive, pretty good. Dragonite flew up high and awaited for Jellicent to emerge. He didn't have to wait long, because Jellicent shot out of the water and was headed towards Dragonite. That was when she flew down to strike it with Fly. Both collided, but it was obvious that Dragonite had caused more damage.

Both Pokemon retreated back to recover from their attacks. This was, in my opinion, the perfect time for John to try and capture Jellicent. I wasn't sure if Jellicent would use a recovery move, but I hoped not. I would have hated for him to do all that work for nothing. Well, it would have more health, but I don't think it would be as strong. This battle was as good as over.

Dragonite climbed up into the sky, and I watched the water's surface for any sign of Jellicent. We didn't have to wait too long - a few bubbles appeared, and suddenly, Jellicent launched out from underwater. My mind flashed back to the time Kingdra has used Dive on Dragonite. It was a similar scenario now, only I was determined to come out of this one the winner.

"Dragonite, now!" At my command, Dragonite descended on Jellicent. The attack was well-timed - just as Jellicent's momentum ended, Dragonite slammed into him. Dragonite wasn't going to get away from that collision scot-free, but Jellicent was certainly getting the worst of it.

"Jellicent!" Jellicent cried. The Pokemon dropped, sinking back into the water with a loud splash.

Dragonite returned to my side. She was tired and breathing heavily, but all things considered, she had taken very little damage. This battle had played out very well for me.

I turned my attention to the water's surface, waiting for Jellicent to reappear. I pulled an empty Super Ball off of my belt. The moment it did, I was going to capture it.

Eventually, Jellicent resurfaced. The Pokemon was clearly hurt. He was moving slowly and gingerly, and his body was marked with bruises from the many attacks he had taken during this battle. This was a prime opportunity for me to capture it.

"You're mine, Jellicent!" I shouted. If I could make the capture now, I could leave the Park mere minutes after entering - a highly successfully run for me. But first, I had to make Jellicent mine.

"Dragonite, use Wrap!" I commanded. "We can't let Jellicent escape when I'm trying to capture it."

Dragonite nodded, and flew towards Jellicent, preparing to wrap its tail around it. If Jellicent was trapped in Dragonite's Wrap, it would be unable to move, allowing me to have an easier time making the capture. Not only that, but Wrap would add on a little more damage on to Jellicent. It looked like he was on the brink the way things were now, but it was highly doubtful that an attack as weak as Wrap would finish him off while he had the two Defense boosts. Wrap dealt more damage over time, but there was nothing to worry about to me. If absolutely necessary, we could replenish its health with a Water-type attack and then whittle it down again. We had enough time to do that, though it wasn't ideal.

Dragonite swooped down on Jellicent, getting ready to set him up for the capture. I waited for Dragonite's Wrap to connect. The moment he had Jellicent trapped, I was going to throw the Super Ball. With my heart pounding, I began winding up as Dragonite began to coil around Jellicent.
