    Individual RP — Miŕejka Tšjoŭgel — Non-Battle Post #1

A Ranger named Tella stood at the edge of a cliff that overlooked the Meteor Valley, early in the evening of a crisp autumn day; less than a metre in front of her, the cliffside dropped almost straight down a dizzying distance to the tops of the trees far below, the lack of any obstacle offering a perfect view of the equally large hill on the other side of the Valley. Twin veins of purplish rock, faintly glowing in the gathering dusk, slashed their way across the sides of both the hill Tella was standing on and the other, perfect mirror images of each other as though they had been left there like scars... And perhaps, Tella mused, they had, long ago when some vast and unearthly object hurtled down to strike the two hills and gouge out the valley between them. Certainly the profusion of Fairy- and Psychic-type Pokémon that lived here pointed to the presence of something not of this world, one that drew strange beings like lodestones.

Perhaps twenty years of age, the young Kanto native had strange eyes— almond-shaped and coloured a vibrant icy blue— that seemed somehow older than the rest of her. Tella stood with an easy grace that could fool an ignorant onlooker into believing that she was a dancer... But which would tell a warrior that here was a dangerous foe in her own right, even had she not had a full complement of Poké Balls at her waist. There were six of them, each one reduced to cherry-sized capsules and clasped securely into an understated but high-tech black belt that would eject them all at the same time in an emergency.

Tella's clothing was as understated and hyper-practical— almost combat-ready— as the belt that held her Pokémon partners. She wore a long-sleeved black jacket over a white shirt with what looked like a bulletproof vest in between. A pair of heavy-duty black polyester pants with perfectly fitted patches of Kevlar sewn onto them matched her black Tauros-leather boots, which were also strengthened with circular heavy-plastic reinforcements.

No Pokémon accompanied her at this moment: all six Poké Balls remained clasped at her belt. The Meteor Valley attracted strangeness, but all that meant was that Tella felt somewhat at home here. This was a zone of mystical peace: its denizens would be calm until and unless they were disturbed by the psychic chaos of an outsider's arrival... and whatever else Tella was, she was no outsider to a place like this.

Such an outsider, however, was on the way. Tella hated to have a hand in bringing such turmoil, but this was the job she had accepted in order to equip and feed herself and her team... And besides, the wordless whispers of the air itself reassured her that even after the brief storm of the outsider's passing, peace would return, uncaring that it had been disturbed.

Tella didn't need to scan the horizon to sense the flying capsule, carrying its cargo of one Trainer and her Pokémon, approaching from the north. The vehicle carried Trainers to and from the docks where the National Park received and processed its patrons, but it would land soon; a scenic flight overtop of the landscape didn't allow Trainers to do what Trainers did best: explore, battle, and capture.

Tella turned and began to walk, her steps utterly sure. In a place like this, it was easy for her to know with certainty that she would be standing exactly the minimum safe distance away from the flying capsule when it landed and its door opened to allow the Trainer— the transmission from the Docks had pronounced her name "Me-DAY-ka CHOW-ghel," which sounded exotic— to disembark.

Miŕejka sat in the capsule as it began its descent, brushing her black hair aside so as to more clearly see the valley. It reminded her of a place she could only now vaguely remember, probably from her early childhood when she was still in Lyxrtia - memories she didn't know how to feel about. She thought back to how she got here - boarding the plane to a small town, living in an apartment in the city for a month or two, then leaving home in search of Pokémon, and beginning a long journey.

Next to her was her Gardevoir, Ŕenata. She was wearing brown goggles - Miŕejka had no idea how they had come into her possession. Ŕenata was notably less reserved than most of her species, and Miŕejka knew that very well, although the Pokémon seemed even more determined to protect her.

Miŕejka stepped out of the capsule and her Gardevoir followed. Miŕejka wore a plain white shirt under a gray coat with "HÜDŽJÊMÊR", the name of a Lyxrtian clothing company, on it. The coat itself wasn't very thick, but it protected her from cold nonetheless; her pants were black, with two pockets sealed with zippers. The Pokéballs of her two Pokémon, one of which was currently holding her Umbreon, were held in zipped compartments on the inside of her coat.

"Hi, I'm Miŕejka," she said, "and this is Ŕenata." The Gardevoir by her side waved at the Ranger, then adjusted her goggles slightly. "And you are?"

((OOC: I should probably add pronunciation guides and other stuff for the conlang.))

The Ranger nodded shortly by way of greeting, and then began to speak what could only be called a rehearsed script. "Hello, Trainer. I am Tella Marr, and I will be your guide for this visit to Meteor Valley. Please follow the rules and guidelines set out in the Visitor Instruction leaflet, and refrain from needlessly disturbing the ecosystem of the Valley..."

As she talked, Tella sized up the newcomers, ice-blue eyes glinting in the odd glow that shone from Meteor Valley: the early evening sunlight reflected back out of the vale with a faint purplish colour, like a darker-hued version of sunset that came from below rather than above.

To Tella's practiced eye, Miŕejka seemed ordinary enough... and well-prepared, which was what really mattered. But it was the foreign Trainer's choice of a Pokémon partner that intrigued the Ranger the most: Ŕenata was a Gardevoir, a species that would fit in well here and cause a minimum of disturbance even during battles. Tella wondered if that had been a conscious decision on the Trainer's part, or mere luck. Hmm...

"...Park authorities request that you follow instructions from your Ranger, for your safety and that of the Pokémon," Tella finished, still regarding Miŕejka with those unnerving ice-blue eyes. "Do you have any questions? If not, feel free to choose your preferred way down into the valley."

Miŕejka would see a number of ways to get to the valley floor: there was a steep natural switchback that criscrossed the hillside, a path with a treacherous drop on one side but wide enough to travel on without fear of accidentally falling. Another way might be simple teleportation, though Ŕenata's strong empathic abilities would indicate to the Pokémon that such an act might draw a great deal of attention from the valley's inhabitants (for better or for worse.) A third way might be perhaps some form of flight.

As Tella finished her introductory script, Miŕejka nodded to acknowledge the Ranger's instructions. <Eŕvembaiftêns kejtšretjev. Vjeitskel baiftêjdjejt skefkej djete isksje fhjestejn vjetskel tsjeif baiftênskôlv sje ôlveitem.>ᵃ Ŕenata telepathically said.

    "Can we teleport down?"

<We can, but I have a feeling those in the valley will notice us. That might not be good. I can try to reason with them but since they probably haven't seen me before, it might not do much good.>

Considering the options she had, Miŕejka thought for a few seconds.

"I suppose we can try going down on foot. If it becomes too difficult to continue, we teleport," she finally said. Ŕenata nodded.

((OOC: I don't want to end up bunnying your character(s), so is it fine to make shorter NBPs but have more of them?))

    TRANSLATIONS:
    a. Let's descend into the valley. There's a steep slope down but it is too steep, so descending is inadvisable.

Tella nodded and gestured for Miŕejka to proceed. As she did, however, her gaze was drawn by movement from the cliffside. Over the edge of the cliff, a pink roly-poly body half walked and half floated, bouncing like an inflatable child's ball.

"Jiggly! Jigglypuff!" the little creature chirped, and then came to a slow, drifting halt as its huge round eyes took in its new surroundings atop the cliff.

It scanned the flat, grassy area, taking in, with apparent lack of concern, two of the three figures that were staring at it. As far as the little puffball was concerned, Ŕenata and Tella simply felt like they were creatures of this valley, bound by its strange customs and therefore no threat despite looking like nothing Jigglypuff had ever seen. But then it glimpsed Miŕejka, and let out a little squeak of alarm. This two-legger was different. Strange. An outsider.

"Jiggly!" the wild Pokémon chirped, and began to sing a lilting lullaby with lyrics of its own species' name. Instantly, all present began to feel the beginnings of drowsiness tug at their minds and bodies. It would be necessary for Miŕejka and Ŕenata to take some form of quick action— fight or flight— in order to evade the supernatural song's soporific susurrations!

((Let's fight it. I'm not planning to catch this one, but I have a decent idea to show Ŕenata's rather weird style of battling.))

Miŕejka knew what the singing of a Jigglypuff could do to people and Pokémon - she had experienced it before, and awoke in a forest with no idea of how she got there. She ordered Ŕenata through thought, who could feel her beginning to worry, to engage in battle. Using Psychic to lift the pink spheroid up into the air, she held it past the edge of the cliff with her psychic power until she felt her mind's grip loosen due to natural causes.

"Now stop singing or she'll let go," Miŕejka threatened.

If it continued with its song and caused Ŕenata to fall asleep, she would naturally let go of the Jigglypuff, causing it to fall to near-certain doom.

If it stopped, Ŕenata would harshly pull it back toward solid ground as the last few seconds of her psychic powers allowed, putting it on a clear path toward the ground.

    ((How's that?))

Jigglypuff gave a single strangled squeak and was silent, tears of betrayal welling up in its huge innocent eyes as it stared at Ŕenata... who proceeded to hurl it at the ground.

"Jiggly!!" screeched the little Pokémon, outraged at this treatment from one who should have been a friend, who should have been safe!

The little puffball wasn't going to go down that easily! In midair, Jigglypuff began to rotate; the rotations grew faster, like topspin on a thrown baseball. Jigglypuff slammed into the ground and took off like a rocket, still rolling sideways and only gaining speed from there. With momentum that couldn't be stalled by anything, it smashed into Ŕenata, knocking the Gardevoir roughly aside and racing past.

Ŕenata, for her part, began to experience the empathic feedback that all Gardevoir do when in battle. Jigglypuff's righteous fury struck a chord in Ŕenata, certainly, but just as much as Ŕenata felt— and was wounded by— the wild Pokémon's outrage, Ŕenata also felt a certain exhilaration: Jigglypuff's feelings resonated with the raw excitement of competition, of vying for victory against a challenger, and Ŕenata felt it too.

Jigglypuff continued to roll, picking up speed and making a wide turn to come around at Ŕenata again!

"Ŕenata, you didn't have to throw it, you know."

    <Too late for that now!>

Quickly, Ŕenata took a very quick glance behind her, ensured the coast was clear, and Teleported backward, right in front of a large, particularly solid rock. Keeping herself between the rock and where Jigglypuff was, she kept a close eye on the pink ball while remaining near the rock.

If Jigglypuff decided to continue rolling at her, she would teleport away before Jigglypuff could reach her, preferably after it was too late for the Jigglypuff to turn away, hopefully making it crash into the rock.

Ŕenata Teleported into position in front of the rock, and watched Jigglypuff's wide turn alter to account for her new location; apparently the Jigglypuff could still somehow see despite the rapid rotations of its little body. She waited with a certain amount of boredom as the seconds ticked by, with Jigglypuff having to cross a wide stretch of ground to reach Ŕenata's new location. At this rate, it would be at least twenty seconds before the little puffball even reached Ŕenata!

Then, a flash of inspiration burst into the Gardevoir's mind. The expression on Ŕenata's face might have been difficult for most humans to read, but Miŕejka would know it anywhere: this was the look Ŕenata got when she was about to do something crazy... and also probably awesome. She still fully intended to teleport away, just like in the boring drills she and Miŕejka had practiced so many times during training... But there was still so much time! Instead of wasting all this time, the extra seconds could be used to make this encounter even more interesting!

    <Miŕejka. Watch this!>

Ŕenata closed her eyes began to channel psychic energy into separating the positive and the negative ions in the air. She spread her arms out in front of her with a series of static pop! noises trailing her movements, and a moment later the crackling sound of power between her hands turned into a visible, loudly snapping web of electrical energy.

Proud of her quick thinking, Ŕenata opened her eyes to focus on her target— and realised she'd made a grave miscalculation. She'd figured there was more than enough time to use two moves, at the rate Jigglypuff was coming at her. She'd failed to realize that Jigglypuff was still accelerating the entire time! The normally puffy little Pokémon, compacted densely into a smaller amount of space than usual, was inches away, rocketing towards her like a cannonball; the Jigglypuff had also launched itself off of the ground, still spinning, to place itself at exactly chest height.

Ŕenata had time to shove the prepared net of electricity at Jigglypuff like a shield, and did so, locking the small creature's muscles— or whatever passed for them in the little Fairy-type's strange physiology— with crawling arcs of stinging electricity... but she had never tried to Teleport at such short notice! With desperate speed, in the space of the half second before Jigglypuff slammed into her, Ŕenata gathered her psychic might and executed the only Teleport she could manage at short notice. It was a familiar version of Teleport, the one she could do in her sleep: going to Miŕejka's side. Ŕenata blinked out of existence and reappeared a metre or so away from Miŕejka... But so did Jigglypuff. In Ŕenata's hurry, she had accidentally brought her opponent along for the ride!

Its momentum completely unaffected by the Teleport, Jigglypuff smashed into Ŕenata, knocking her sprawling, then rolled straight over and past the Gardevoir, already beginning a wide turn to come back for another run. Thankfully, the hurtling Pokémon had missed Miŕejka entirely; and Tella, who was suddenly standing directly in front of Miŕejka with one hand outstretched as if to knock the Jigglypuff out of the air, breathed a sigh of relief and took a tactful step out of Miŕejka's way.

(Quirky Pokémon are strange. They love added moves, and tend to dislike the ones that come naturally to them; sometimes, if a Trainer's post isn't particularly high-quality (short, not very descriptive, etc.) and also doesn't ask them to do any of the neat tricks they've learned, they'll take matters into their own hands!)

((Doesn't paralysis make it painful for the paralyzed Pokemon to move?))

Ŕenata got up and looked at her Trainer. <You gotta admit that was pretty cool.>

Realizing that Jigglypuff's paralysis meant inability to significantly alter its trajectory without inflicting severe pain on itself, she used Psychic, directing a telekinetic hand to first match Jigglypuff's high speed, then grab it and slowly counter its acceleration while keeping it on a path that avoided her position. Its pain tolerance was only so much, and eventually it would tire of attempting to resist the telekinesis and slow down. As soon as Jigglypuff stopped resisting and had slowed down sufficiently, she would lift it into the air while bringing it on a path that passed right in front of her.

As Jigglypuff passed in front of her, she brought the air in front of her right hand below zero degrees Centigrade and directed the frigid Ice Punch at the puffball, knocking it backward.

Jigglypuff was finding it difficult to stay in control already, with the smooth stretchy fibres that made up its entire body seizing and twitching at random. In fact, it was barely skirting the curved shape of the cliff's edge, with a long long drop straight forward and to its right, and Ŕenata ahead and to its left. When the rude, pushy force of Ŕenata's Psychic pull began to mess with the little Pokémon's trajectory, nudging it away from a collision course with the Gardevoir and into a perfect position for Ŕenata to strike, the fairy finally realized that it was completely outmatched.

Puffing up with raw fury, despite the tension keeping it from otherwise moving very much, Jigglypuff grew larger but also packed itself even more densely at the core of its puffball body, shifting its mass even closer to centre and further increasing its speed!

Whatever Ŕenata had been expecting the unassuming-looking Fairy-type to react with, those expected reactions did not include speeding up. Most sane Pokémon, when they realized they were hurtling straight along the edge of a cliff and losing control, would abort mission A.S.A.P. This ridiculous speed demon was courting disaster! As a result of the large forces involved in altering Jigglypuff's momentum, Ŕenata began to lose control of the little puffball right as it was about to fly by in front of her; at the last moment, she lashed out with an Ice Punch, eager to show off how she had learned to use her power to leach heat from the air around her forelimbs!

Jigglypuff flashed past at a breakneck pace, taking the Ice Punch with only the faintest squeak of protest and then hurtling onward— right off the edge of the cliff!

Tella watched with one eyebrow raised, from where she stood near Ŕenata and Miŕejka, as the little pink orb flew out, out, out, and down, down, down into the valley, disappearing amongst the crowns of the trees far below. She whistled at the little creature's audacity. "That's certainly a way to make an exit," she murmured to herself. Jigglypuff had seen that this battle wasn't going to be a win for her, and had been unwilling to simply flee ignominiously; but rather than surrender or accept defeat graciously, the proud little creature had crafted herself a way out.

Catching Miŕejka's eye, the Ranger shrugged. "She'll be fine. Jigglypuff don't splat when they hit the ground, they bounce."

She headed over to a spot where the walkway down into the valley met the cliffside, and paused there, waiting for Miŕejka to confirm that she still intended to hike down the steep foot path, which switchbacked back and forth across the sharp slope of the valley wall.

((I'd like to end this run because I just realized writing anything in a conlang that isn't fully fleshed out is a horrible idea, so I'll probably shelve this character.))

Miŕejka walked to the beginning of the path, but froze as her phone buzzed. Taking it out of her pocket, she noticed the name.

    "Excuse me a moment."

After three minutes of increasingly panicked conversation, she turned back to Tella.

"Apologies for ending this so quickly. I must leave now - something important has happened that needs my presence as soon as possible. It's unlikely that I will return."

    Individual RP — Miŕejka Tšjoŭgel — Non-Battle Post #4

"Oh. As you wish," Tella said, hiding her surprise well. "I'll call your vehicle back to retrieve you."

The Ranger removed a compact long-range radio transmitter, about the size of an encyclopedia, from her pack; holding the heavy device up in one hand as though it were the lightest thing in the world, she spoke into it: "Calling the vehicle that just left Meteor Valley, please return for pickup. The Trainer needs to return to the docks, urgently."

Before long, a flying capsule arrived to retrieve Miŕejka, and the Trainer climbed in and lifted off, up and away to head for the docks. Tella watched the machine go, and idly wondered what personal disaster had been so vital as to drive Miŕejka to cancel the whole run. But the Ranger's curiosity passed quickly; she hadn't gotten to know Miŕejka well enough over such a short time to really be bothered by it.

"More time to enjoy the atmosphere here," she reasoned out loud, and turned to begin her solitary hike down into Meteor Valley.
