Busy, busy, busy. Not with runs through the park (my past time and job), but with paperwork. Someone had gotten injured on a run and, of course, I had been stuck with the paperwork for it. I hadn't even known the guy, let alone been his Ranger. Ah well, you take what people give you. At least I was getting hazard pay.

I looked out the window of my office. That was the good thing, at least. Sometimes you get perks for being with the Ranger's League for a long time. Sometimes. All the other times, you get the novice's paperwork. My Gliscor stared back through the window at me, a grin on his face. He did a flip backwards, like a professional swimmer lunging into the backstroke, and half fell, half glided down before swooping back up. At least someone was having fun.

Then, I got a phone call. The office phone practically leapt off its holder, so I grabbed it before it could do any collateral damage. It was the receptionist. There was someone who wanted to be taken through the park, and they needed a Ranger down there. Now. Emphasis on the now part.

I shrugged and let my Gliscor in through the window. At least his big ears were good for something. He followed me, gliding through the building, as I dashed down the stairs and into the waiting room, slowing to a casual walk as I entered sight of the people inside.

The receptionist flagged me down and introduced me to the Trainer. He said his name was Jr. Just Jr. What kind of name was that? At least he was a veteran, though. He'd be easier to handle, then.

"I'm Domonic," I told him, a smile on my face. "Ready to head out?"

    ooc; @GliscorMan I AM PREPARED
    ---

I headed to the ranger outpost outside of my destination. I had just finished my very first run through the park a few days back, but my life had been moving very slowly since and I decided it was time to go through again. This time in a new place. I was never a big fan of horror movies, but I picked the scariest place I could go: Meteor Valley. Well, the name was kind of eerie, who knew if it was actually scary or not. I arrived into the big waiting room, there were a few trainers standing around waiting for a ranger to free up and be able to take them to their destination. Most of them looked like they had been waiting for ages. I hoped I wouldn't follow in their paths.

Unfortunately, I did have to wait a few hours. But that is understandable, this time of year people usually have things to do and places to go. As I waited I read up on what Pokemon I could catch in this mysterious sounding valley. There were a few things that sounded interesting to catch, most of the Pokemon I had already. But I was always one to collect Pokemon for the hell of it.

After the hours of waiting, a ranger finally came out. I figured it was mine, as everyone else had slowly filed out of the room with their respective rangers. He walked over my way after the receptionist had flagged him down.

"I'm Jr," I told him calmly.

"I'm Dominic," he said to me with a crazed smile on his face. "Ready to head out?"

I nodded my head affirmatively. I was indeed ready to go catch some Pokemon.

Jr nodded his head. I grinned a bit more, probably like a maniac. This would be an interesting run. The Valley was full of Ghosts and Psychics. Strange things often happened there, which were usually blamed on the local fauna and, occasionally, flora.

I walked out the door, Jr close behind. My Gliscor seemed to catch the look of my crazy grin, and started wearing it around, himself. I must say, it looks better on a Gliscor than on a human. We climbed into one of the old park Jeeps. I couldn't help but pick the one I had used last time, the one that some witty Ranger a few years back had painted with the Jurassic Park logo. Gliscor hung onto the roll bars while I took the driver's seat. Jr eagerly grabbed shotgun.

We drove off, heading for an area right between the two mountains. The volcanic Mt Deckbi loomed to our right and to our left were the shining, white slopes of Mt Okotori. Meteor Valley was right smack between the two.

It took a while, but we finally arrived at a small Ranger Outpost. It was right at the edge of a cliff, the perpetual fog hiding the majority of the ground below. There was a path to close by, and I led Jr and my Gliscor down in that area. Before we had gone far, however, I saw something peculiar. A small black and gray colored dog was bouncing around, chasing its tail. I smiled a bit at the sight.

"Hey," I said to Jr "want to catch a Poocheyna?"

After meeting up with each other we both eagerly headed towards the door, me behind my ranger. His Gliscor seemed to be mimicking his crazed grin. It was looking pretty creepy.

Right outside the door were a few jeeps that rangers and trainers could use to more easily move around the park. Dominic hopped into one and I followed suit. In the passenger seat was a shotgun, I picked up and wondered why we would need one.

After a quiet drive we arrived at another small outpost, a thick fog covered the air. I heard something and my ranger saw it. He pointed it out and asked me if I wanted to fight the little black puppy.

I said no, grabbed a pink Clefairy Pokedoll from my bag and threw it off at the Poochyena hoping to distract it long enough for us to move onto another area and another Pokemon

The one thing about taking a veteran through the park, I later realized, was that the vets know exactly what they want. As opposed to the first-timers, who have no clue what they're doing. The newbies are more fun, that way.

Jr reached into his pack and pulled out a small, pink stuffed animal. A Clefairy Pokedoll. He tossed it at the black hyena Pokemon, who immediately stopped chasing its tail in favor of attacking the new, strange-smelling toy. It crouched, growling at the pink replica, then leapt, tackling it. It and the Pokedoll, locked into mortal combat, rolled down the slope, vanishing into the misty gloom at the bottom of the valley.

I smiled a little, the Poocheyna seemed really playful. I would've liked to have captured it, myself, had I not been escorting a Trainer. Maybe I'd come back later.

I motioned for Jr to follow me, and we hiked down the slope a little farther. After a little while, the mist and fog began to grow thick. It was as thick as pea soup, which, if we're talking about my mum's homemade soup, is pretty darn thick. I grumbled some, then muttered something incomprehensible, even to myself.

As we waded through the fog, something caught my eye. It was bright pink, an unusual sight for this area. At first, I thought it was the doll that Jr had tossed at the Poocheyna. It was about the right shape. Then, it moved. A Clefairy!

"Want to capture a Clefairy?" I asked Jr, knowing what I expected the answer to be.

I tossed the Clefairy doll at the small puppy, and it took the doll with joy instead of battling. A began to hike on for a few minutes and fog started to cover the light air thickly. A few moments later an actual Clefairy came out of no where thanks to the fog.

"Want to capture a Clefairy?" my ranger asked me.

Disappointed and slightly agitated I told him no.

The next Pokemon had to be a good one, I thought, What are the chances of getting a third lame Pokemon?

I couldn't quite read the Trainer I was leading, but it appeared Jr wasn't too happy about the Pokemon that he'd found so far. It wasn't just the curt "No" that I received. While veterans might know what they're doing and know what they want, they certainly knew when they weren't getting it. This one also apparently thought it was the world's duty to supply him the Pokemon he wanted, when he wanted it. How drab. Pity, I'd actually thought that this might be a bit of fun. I was determined to not let that show, though.

I led Jr carefully around the Clefairy, trying not to disturb it. This was a hard thing to do on an incline, let alone with limited space to maneuver without falling off the cliff, down the side of the Valley. We managed nicely, it didn't seem to take any notice of us. Or so I thought.

The little pink, ball of fluff half walked, half rolled behind us, Mimicing what we were doing. It even seemed to copy Jr's strut and, or so it seemed to me, his slightly irritated expression. Oh, boy, I thought. This'll be interesting.

I turned to Jr, still walking.

"Don't look now," I told him, "but I think the Clefairy's still following us."

We tried walking away from the Clefairy, but that surely did not work at all. All the Clefairy did was begin to mimic me, which was slightly agitating. But it was also slightly humorous. I had not been in the best of the moods, and Clefairy's little runaway walk brightened me up a little bit.

"Don't look now," I told him, "but I think the Clefairy's still following us."

However, I had a Pokedoll friend for Clefairy to play with just like Poochyena.

"ONWARD!" I yelled as I tossed the doll at Clefairy so I could find another Pokemon.

    (( @The Jr. Trainer))

Jr turned around to look at the Clefairy, which was still following us. The Clefairy turned to look behind itself, too. Obviously looking for a much smaller something, imitating the Trainer perfectly. It even managed to pack a mildly confused and somehow grumpy grin onto its small face. I was amused, but I couldn't tell if Jr was. If he got angry at the little pink Pokemon, I'd have to figure something out. And fast.

However, Jr simply reached into his backpack and produced a second Pokedoll. It looked like the Clefairy in front of us. It was almost identical, really. Only the face was different, considering the immobility of the stuffed Pokemon. He hefted it a bit, then tossed it beside the opposing Clefairy. The wild Pokemon, noticing the new doll, snapped into position. Now, both the doll and the Pokemon had exactly the same facial expression, exactly the same look. If I hadn't already known that the real Pokemon was on the left, I'd have easily confused the two of them! Or was it on the right? I couldn't tell the two apart, it was an excellent Mimic.

"ONWARD!" Jr yelled, failing to startle the Clefairy from its intense Mimicry of the Pokedoll. Now that was some good acting.

Jr seemed in slightly better spirits now. That was good, it'd be easier to handle the Trainer then. We walked further down the path, my Gliscor gliding down above and behind us, doing tricks and bounding off the side of the cliff face. He looked like he was having fun. That was good. After traveling a good distance, I heard a faint sound, like a Pokemon's cry. A little shape appeared on ahead, through the fog. It looked like some sort of letter, I could very nearly tell what it was. An X or maybe an O or, possibly, an H. Either way, I was sure what it was.

"Hey, Jr," I said. "Want an Unown? I hear that, with certain items, they can be a decent powerhouse!"

Maybe this was just a hint from me, considering that I'd loved the mysteriousness of the Unown, that I wanted to use one. Unown weren't very powerful and only knew one attack. However, a good Pokemon Trainer can work around any of those weaknesses. I was interested to see what Jr would do.
