    Jason checked the list of trainers for what had to be the fourth time, frowning. Trainers hailed from all sorts of places, with different creeds, attitudes, and ages. They had diverse styles and dreams, but... well, this one just seemed so... young. It wasn't really her age--sixteen was a good age to start training Pokemon--but it was how tiny she was. In every file for their trainers, a brief description was included--and for Sammy Colman, a photo was tucked in along with all of that. She seemed so tiny, it was hard to believe that one accidental slap of a Pokemon's tail or a misjudged punch wouldn't snap her in two. The light growling of his Gyarados (which, to any human, was thunderously loud) drew Jason's attention away from Sammy's file as they waited for the trainer to arrive at the Ranger outpost. Fenrir was growing restless, eager for time out with his trainer. Jason gave a small smile as he reached up, Fenrir tilting his chin down to meet his tamer's scratching fingers. A low rumble, much like a cat's purr, sounded from the huge serpentine Pokemon. Fenrir wasn't exceedingly intelligent, but he was powerful, and knew how to obey commands. He was also as tame as a kitten when someone paid attention to the spot below his fins with rubbing hands.

    A crunching twig caught the pair's attention, and Jason nearly jumped when a small girl stood directly in front of them. Apparently Sammy's small size kept her from being overly loud on her feet, and could stay undetected. 'Perhaps that is how she stays safe,' the Dragon Tamer thought to himself, twiddling at his Seadra earring absently. He got to his feet and gave her a brief nod while Fenrir stayed back. The Gyarados had had too many encounters with frightened trainers before and wisely chose not to approach the little brunette girl.

    "Hello, and welcome to the Park," Jason told her. "I am Jason, your Ranger for today, and this is my Gyarados, Fenrir," Jason introduced, waving vaguely to the coiled Pokemon behind him. "Have you got all your things ready to go?"

    I tapped my backpack as I looked out the window of the buss that was taking me to the outpost. The bus ride felt like it was taking way longer then it should have. I looked down at my bag and decided to look at my Pokemon of Choice for this run, Jolty the Galvantula and Fluffy the Gastrodon I’ve had for a while, but Puffball was a new addition. I had recently caught him in a different part of the park. I had not used him in a lot of battles but I hoped that our two battle styles would mesh well. I was shocked out of my thoughts when the bus stopped. I placed the balls into my bag and after a quick thank you to the driver I got off the bus. After a few minutes of walking I found myself at the outpost. I saw a man who was my ranger and a large blue and white serpent behind him, a Gyarados. I walked over to him.

    Hello, and welcome to the Park,” He said. "I am Jason, your Ranger for today, and this is my Gyarados, Fenrir," He gestured to the Gyarados behind him "Have you got all your things ready to go?"

    “I think so!” I said as I patted my bag, “I’ve got all of my stuff, good to go!

    [Gonna go ahead and switch to first-person style writing. Just letting you know so you aren’t confused ^^]

    Well, Sammy had moxie, if nothing else. I couldn’t help but give a small smile at her attitude; she may have been a tiny person, but I could tell she was spunky. Perhaps she’d surprise me on this run. Behind me, Fenrir rumbled a bit, not appreciating having been ignored for the past minute or so. I chuckled and dug into my pocket, plucking a spotted Aspear berry from it. I could feel my Pokemon’s eyes trained on it eagerly, and I could hear his breathing pause for a moment as I tossed it into the air. Quick as lighting, jaws snapped around the small berry, an approving growl sounding immediately after.

    “All right then, let’s go.” I recalled Fenrir after a quick pat on his jaw, reassuring him that he’d come out again soon for some action. He liked to show off, especially in front of new trainers; today, I’d try to make it to the pond at the northern end of Meteor Valley with my trainer and let him go wild there.

    Sammy and I made our way to an old, beat-up Jeep, the tires and windows caked in various splatters of mud and sand. I made it a habit to visit the Great Lakes and the Beach often, so there was plenty of sand on the car floor, and even some dried up seaweed. My old surfboard stuck out of the back like a yellow shark fin. I opened Sammy’s door out of habit, having been taught to open doors for women most of my life, and then made the climb into my side of the old Wrangler before turning the key. The engine roared to life, and off we went, the terrain vehicle rocking and bouncing along the uneven dirt paths to Meteor Valley’s entrance gate.

    The ride was uneventful, and fairly quiet. I wasn’t much for conversation, and it seemed Sammy was thinking about something else. We eventually got to the tall gates, an old electronic keypad and slider for my card off to the side. The pair of us clambered carefully out of the high-up Jeep and I pulled out my Ranger’s ID, sliding it with practiced ease. The red indicator bleeped and turned green, and an unseen mechanism made a soft click as it unlocked.

    “Welcome to Meteor Valley,” I told my trainer, and let her come through the unlocked gate with me. It was always an impressive sight—tall, lush grasses as far as the eye could see, contained in a narrow bowl-like valley between hills so large, they looked like they could be grassy mountains. Forests of trees framed the miles-long valley, though we could only see the west side, and therefore there were only trees to our left. The grasses were swaying lightly with an easy breeze, and among them we could see several moths starting to become active in the coming twilight.

    We stuck to a path that was well-used by the Rangers and their trainers, the grasses flattened quite a bit and allowing the sandy dirt to peek through. It was very quiet—almost too quiet for my tastes. I frowned, realizing that there should have been at least a couple of Pokemon sightings by now, even if it was only glimpses. But we weren’t even hearing distant calls. A particularly large tree stuck out near the path, an outlier from the forest. One of the tree seeds must have meandered its way here on the wind. Closer inspection revealed territorial claw markings, clearly from an Absol by the size, shape, and number of claw lines. Absol were known to be loners, much like Liepard. They marked territory with claw scratches, or they sometimes used their formidable horn. Scratching also helped to sharpen their claws and stretch their toe tendons.

    I was about to tell all of this to Sammy, when I felt rather than heard a strong humming sound somewhere behind us, hidden in the thick of the grass.

    “Watch –“ I began, but the grasses suddenly parted, like two huge, invisible hands had flattened it down in separate clumps. A short, bipedal Pokemon stared at us with glowing eyes, visible lavender energy surrounding it. It clutched a spoon in one hand, wizened face hard. It did not like that humans had invaded its home, apparently.

    “Kadabra,” I said aloud. The Pokemon seemed shocked that I knew its species, and instantly I felt an entity inside my head.

    <<Human,>> it returned. I detected a hint of irony in its tone. Psychic types…

    “Do you want to battle this Pokemon?” I asked Sammy, warily keeping my eyes on the yellow Pokemon.

    “All right then, let’s go.” Jason Said as he recalled his Gyarados and walked over to a sandy jeep. The car must have been well used, since it was covered in sand. I fallowed Jason and got in the car, soon were at the park gate. Jason got out and I fallowed. He slid some kind of card and slid it though something on the gate and it opened.

    “Welcome to Meteor Valley,” he said to me. I was honestly stunned. When I heard the name Meteor Valley I thought of gray peaks and rocky valleys I was glad I was wrong. I do not think I would have liked to go exploring in that kind of area. The land that lay ahead of us was lovely, with grass covered mounds and peaks.

    We started down a path that seemed to be well used, and pretty quiet I wounded why that was. Maybe we were just too loud and scaring away some of the Pokemon. We walked by a tree that had many claw marks on it. I wondered what could have caused those claw marks. I had a few Pokemon that could make large claw marks, but I didn’t think that any of them would live here or maybe I was forgetting someone. Before I could ask I felt a weird kinda force that was somehow humming in the grass.

    “Watch –“Jason said as some grass was parked in front of us. “Kadabra.”

    I looked at the psi Pokemon. I could not say that I really wanted to fight the Pokemon, since I was looking for a different Psychic type. It was a good Pokemon but I didn’t really want to risk my Pokemon getting hurt in a fight.

    “Do you want to battle this Pokemon?” Jason asked as he looked at the Pokemon. I shook my head there were other Pokemon that I was after here.

    “I’d rather not,” I said as I looked at the Psychic type I knew that Kadabras were relevantly smart and I did not want to offend it, “Do you think that we’ll be able to get past it?”

    My trainer looked a bit nervous as she sized up the Kadabra. After asking if she wanted to battle it, she shook her head.

    “I’d rather not. Do you think that we’ll be able to get past it?”

    I didn't answer her, but instead directed my attention towards the Pokemon before us. It wasn't tame, but it was intelligent. Depending on its mood, I could probably reason with it. So, with my palms outward in a sign of peace, I spoke to it.

    "Will you allow us to pass, Kadabra?" I asked. It kept my gaze for a few unnerving seconds, eyes unreadable and hard, but then it lowered its spoon. The humming around us stopped and it gave me a short nod.

    <<Go, humans. But do not cause trouble,>> it warned us. Before I could reply, it Teleported away to some undisclosed location. I gave Sammy a nod. "I guess it just wanted to make sure we weren't troublemakers," I told her. With that, we continued on through the grasses. I jabbed my thumb at the claw marks on the tree from before, pointing them out to the young girl. "Those are Absol clawmarks, by the way. It's how they mark territory; there's probably one that makes regular rounds through here." We walked through the dusty plains, the sky darkening quickly around us. I could hear crickets and the calls of Murkrow somewhere in the distance. The grasses before us parted a ways and started getting more sparse, until we hit a pile of old, whitened rocks, bleached from the sun. A few wildflowers swayed in the wind, growing from cracks in the stone.

    I examined it for a moment, pondering the theories of other trainers who claimed that these could be ruins of some sort, when a tiny squeaky noise made me aware that something was sitting on one of the higher stones, looking down at us with round, reproachful eyes. An Igglybuff, round and indignant that we had dared crossed its path, puffed its cute little cheeks at us and made threatening gestures our way. I chuckled a bit to myself, amused at the display.

    "Sammy, how about this Igglybuff?" I asked her.

    Will you allow us to pass, Kadabra?" Jason asked and I hoped we could reason with it. The Pokemon seemed smart so if it saw that we meant no harm to it, it would let us pass. The Kadabra lowered its spoon and nodded. The strange humming stopped and in an instant the Pokemon vanished, likely going somewhere else. Jason nodded at me.

    "I guess it just wanted to make sure we weren't troublemakers," He said. I was glad that the Psi Pokemon decided not to fight us. He gestured at the claw marks on the tree. "Those are Absol clawmarks, by the way. It's how they mark territory; there's probably one that makes regular rounds through here." So it was an Absol who had decided to leave the marks. I had heard that Absols were Pokemon that tended to be loners. Maybe the reason that we had not found any other Pokemon was because they wanted to say away from the dark type. We kept on walking while it got dark. We soon reached a pile of old looking white rocks.

    A high-pitched noise cam from the rocks, a round pink ball stood at the top of the rocks looking at us with anger. At least I think it was anger it was heard to tell with such a small and cute Pokemon.

    "Sammy, how about this Igglybuff?" Jason asked me.

    While Igglybuffs were cute I had no interest in catching one. “Let’s see if we can get past this one as well.

    I had just cleaned all the dust out of my old office when my pager dinged. It was another ranger, Jason to be exact. He was at Meteor Valley, and couldnt continue his run, so he was asking me to take over. I grabbed my old gear bag that hadnt been used in years, and ran outside.

    The park air met me with warmth. I smiled, reaching for a pokeball on my belt. "Meteor Valley Bud!" I yelled, releasing my pokemon.

    A Four armed metal machine pokemon appesred, Metagross. I jumped on his back and we took off towards the valley.

    ~~~~~~~~~~
    I looked down and saw my trainer. Must have just missed Jason leaving. Oh well. Fritt, my Metagross floated down.
    The trainer appeared to be walking away from an Igglybuff. The small pink pokemon jumped in front of him, puffing his chest out. I tapped Fritt on his head so he hovered in the air above the trainer.
    "Looks like your either gonna have to battle or use a doll!" I yelled to the trainer below. "Oh, and the names Damian, im taking over for Jason!"
    The small pink puffball jumped in front of me. It puffed out its chest and seemed to do what could be considered a small roar. I guess it was trying to be scary and imitating but I was neither. I was not really interested in catching the Igglybuff it was a cute Pokemon and while I did like the cute ones, I knew a place where I could buy one and I could only take three Pokemon out of the park and I was not interested in having Igglybuff be one of the Pokemon that I would be taking out of the park today.
    A large shadow hovered over me. I looked up and saw a large blue metal thing hovering over me. I expected it to be some other Pokemon like a bird to attack me. It took me a second to realize that the Pokemon was a Metagross a psychic and steel type. It could fly and I was wondering why it was here. That was until I heard the voice.
    "Looks like your either gonna have to battle or use a doll!" Someone yelled at me At first I thought that the Pokemon was talking "Oh, and the names Damian, im taking over for Jason!" I did not want to fight the puffball I reached into my wallet and grabbed the money. I reached up to hand it to him.
    OOC: Sorry for short post, but where we go effects encounter haha
    The trainer pulled some cash out of her wallet, and handed it up to me. I had Fritt lower to the ground and I grabbed the cash, putting it in my park bag. I then pulled out a small, pink doll and tossed it to the Igglybuff. The pokemon gave the doll a funny look, then began using what I assumed to be pound on the doll.
    I took the moment to jump to the ground and return Fritt to his pokeball. Looking to my trainer, I decided we needed to keep going. We had trees on both sides of us, and the mountain ahead.
    "Sorry about Jason leaving so soon, he said he needed to go and called me in. Now that Little Man Syndrome over there is distracted, where would you like to head, forrst or mountain?
    Someone jumped off of the Metagross and recalled the Pokemon in into its ball. Metagross was a fine Pokemon to take into the park since it would resist most of the attacks that would be used by Pokemon in this area. It could also hover/fly, which made it extra useful.
    "Sorry about Jason leaving so soon, he said he needed to go and called me in.” my new ranger said, It was okay I had had rangers be replaced on me before. Now that Little Man Syndrome over there is distracted, where would you like to head, forest or mountain?” I chuckled at that nickname that had been given to the puffball. I looked over to the forest I had had some experience fighting in forests but fighting in the mountain would be new. I may also be able to find more physic types in the mountains.
    “I would like to go to the mountains please,” I said as I pointed to the mountain.
    OOC: Gonna be leaving for a 5 day trip in roughly 24 hours, so this may be my last post before then.
    My trainer ssid she wanted to head towards the mountain, so I led the way, trodding through the extremely tall grass. I was staying alert, with a hand on my belt where my pokeballs are. While no serious incident had happened in the park, I didnt want to be the first.
    Ţhe grass was very quiet, which i found odd. I was hoping we could encounter something something the trainer wanted soon, as the file Jason sent me said she hadnt caught anything yet. We walked up to the base of the mountain, where we escaped the grass and hit a rocky area. I signaled for Sammy to quit walking and just listen. We stopped, and I heard growling from behind a medium-sized boulder. The pokemon jumped out, and I almost had to laugh.
    It was a small, grey pokemon, with a spring as legs. A bright pink jewel sat atop its head. "Sp-Spoink!" The pokemon called out.
    "Looks like this little guy wants to battle, whatta you think?" I asked Sammy.
    "Looks like this little guy wants to battle, whatta you think?" My ranger asked me. I looked down at the gray Pokemon. It had two black beady eyes, pink cheeks two small gray arms, a nose that looked like a pig’s snout and a tail that was curled up like a spring. The most eye-catching thing about the Pokemon was the pearl on the top of its head. It was pink and was sitting right on top of the Pokemon head. It was a Spoink, a psychic type the only evolved once and I was interested in it. I was quite found of cute Pokemon and Spoink was one of the more unique ones. Unlike most psychic types this one would become more of a wall while still being able to use some of the stronger attacks.
    “I would like to catch this Pokemon,” I said as I reached into my backpack and pulled out a Pokeball, “Go Jolty!’ I yelled as I sent out my large spider like Pokemon. Galvantula was super helpful when it came to catching Pokemon since he had Powerful attacks and could inflict some status onto the foes. He looked like a huge spider with many yellow and blue markings. I would guess that he had those marking because he was an electric type.
    “Okay Jolty,” I yelled “Start off with a thunder wave then follow up with a bug buzz!” Jolty nodded at me and started to charge up a small spark of energy between its pinchers. For under wave to work it had to be strong enough to paralyze but weak enough not to do any damage. The small jolt of energy was lunched from between the pinchers and jumped towards the small psychic type.
    Now that the thunder wave was done Galvantula got started on the bug buzz. Bug buzz would hopefully do a lot of damage but not too much damage I did not want the Spoink to faint. While bug buzz was a strong bug type move and while bug was good against psychic, bug buzz was a special attack and Spoink had high special defense so the attack may not do as much as I thought it would. Galvantula started rubbing the hairs on it’s body together causing for them to clash and make a noise, Or at least I assumed he was making a noise since only Pokemon could hear it, us humans could not hear the noise that was being made.
    "I would like to catch this pokemon, Go Jolty!" Sammy yelled, throwing a small, red and white sphere into the air. The pokeball opened, shooting out a large, yellow spider. I knew this pokemon was a Galvantula, although I had never seen one in real life before. The Spider turned towards Sammy, awaiting instructions.
    "Start off with Thunder Wave then Follow up with Bug Buzz!" Sammy commanded. I thought this would be an effective strategy, as Spoink wouldnt be able to avoid Bug Buzz if it couldnt move.
    The Spider shot a small electrical beam at the pig. Spoink jumped, but wasnt quick enough. The beam hit it in the spring, and the current surrounded its body. Spoink fell to the ground, but managed to land on its spring and launched itself at Galvantula.
    The pig lowered its head, and the orb began to glow. It smashed into Galvantula, knocking the spider sideways. The bug was quick to its feet, and began rubbing its mandibles together quickly. Spoink cowered, the sound only heard by pokemon effecting it.
    I looked to Sammy, wondering how she would follow this up.
    OOC: Female please
    I watched as the orb on the top of the pig glowed and rammed into my spider. It had used Zen Head but which was a physical move. I found that a little odd, since most psychic types liked using special moves over physical moves. Zen head-butt was a physical move and I was not expecting that kind of move. Maybe this Spoink was just more of a physical user verses a special user. It was not really my deal I guess. Maybe if I could stop Spoink from moving I would be able to limit some of the pig’s options. I waved at Galvantula signaling for him to come over to me. He hurried over to me and waited for my orders.
    “Okay,” I said as I kneeled down to whisper to Galvantula. “I want you to start off with an Electroweb, and I know you may not like this, but fallow up with a Bug Bite” I knew that Galvantula was not found of getting close to other Pokemon but he would not be close for long and would be able to get away from the pig rather quickly. Electroweb would trap the pig keeping it from running away and may be able to keep if from moving for a little bit. Bug Bite was a good damaging move, and maybe a physical move would be a good move.
    I watched as Galvantula ran over near the Spoink. He started to spin a web in between his pinchers. While he was spinning he sent jolts of energy though the web causing for to gain some power. Once he was done spinning the web he tossed it over towards the pig. As soon as Galvantula tossed the web he darted in towards the pig and tried to bite it after that he jumped back towards me.
    Sammy kneeled down and gave the large Spidee a command I couldnt hear. I thought it was really cool how the two of them had that close of a bond.
    Sammy stood back up, and the yellow spider charged at the pig. Spoink began gathering energy, turning it into a black ball in front of her. Meanwhile, the spider began forming a web, fillinv it with electrical energy. Galvantula shot the web through the air at a high speed. Spoinks body flashed yellow, and the energy she had been gathering dissapeared. Paralysis had gotten to her.
    The web collided with Spoink,and she winced in pain. The spider then charged, and using its two giant mandibles, bit down onto the pig. The pig squeeles, and the spider looked to Sammy for its next command.
    “Let’s try something special,” I yelled to Galvantula “Try combining a Signal Beam with a Thunder attack!” We had practiced this technic before but we were yet to perfect it. It worked by having Galvantula run his hair follicles together in order to create a powerful electric current. While Galvantula was doing that he would try to form the Signal Beam in between his pinchers. The two attacks would then be fired off at the same time. The idea was that combining that attacks would give some more power to the two attacks if they were combined. I was not really sure if it would work, but Galvantula seemed super exited about it, and with those eyes how could I say no? The thing was that the move only seemed to work well with another move in place of thunder, the move known as thunderbolt. I think that it was because thunderbolt was a move that Galvantula learned normally while Thunder was a move that I had to use at technical machine to get Galvantula to learn. That was a fun time. Ever try to get a jumpy spider to sit down and learn something?
    Despite it being an experiment Galvantula was ready to try it. I guess that he liked it because it meant that he did not have to get too close to the foe that he would be facing. Galvantula started rubbing his hairs together and started to glow yellow showing the electric current that was getting ready to jump off of him and towards the small pig like Pokemon. At the same time a multicolored ball started to form between the two pinchers. Once he was ready he fired off the attack, It ended up looking very nice, the yellow of the Thunder surrounded the rainbow that the signal bean had was now flying towards the Psychic Pokemon.
    “Let’s try something special,” I yelled to Galvantula “Try combining a Signal Beam with a Thunder attack!”
    It was definately an interesting idea, ill give it that. From what I understood, it would combine a poeerful move with a more accurate, not so powerful move, hopefully dealing out a medium damage and hitting.
    The wild pokemon had other things in mind. It sprang up into the air, shooting a psychic beam of energy towards the spider. The beam collised with the spider, knocking it over. Flipping back to ots legs, Galvantula began rubbing its mandibles together, charging up electricity.
    The pig kept bouncing around, but it was slowed down due to the paralysis from before. Galvantla let loose the beam, and it shot towards the pig. Spoink jumped, but it was a second too late. The beam hit the small pigs spring, flipping it on its back.
    Spoink jumped to its feet, staring down the spider.
    I watched as the pig like Pokemon jumped up into the air. It’s pear started to glow and a muti-colored beam shot out. It hit Galvantula doing some damage. I recognized the move as Psybeam. A decently powered psychic type move. I knew that it also had a chance of confusing so I was lucky that that did not happen It was a very low percent of confusion but I could still worry. Galvantula was flipped on his back and I was even more worried when the beam caused for Galvantula to flip over. Galvantula was very weak when flipped over since it showed his weak underbelly and he could not move or attack wen he was flipped. Thankfully Galvantula flipped back over and fired of his move. The Spoink was hit and l over. Pokemon were flipping all over the place! If the Spoink stayed flipped I would have tossed a ball at it but alas it jumped right back up. The Spoink was moving slower because of the thunder shock that Galvantula gave it. That gave me an idea.
    “Galvantula!” I yelled to him, “First use Agility to up your speed then fallow it up with an Electro Ball!” Electro ball was a move that did more damage the faster the user was and was based on how slow the target was. Spoink’s speed was lower then normal and the Agility would increase Galvantula’s speed to a higher level. Galvantula was already pretty fast and now he would be even faster!
    Galvantula started zigzagging around Spoink dashing from one corner to another becoming faster and faster and he went. Soon he was just a yellow bur that could just barley be seen. Soon Galvantula stopped moving and started charging up the ball. The ball was yellow and had currents flowing though it. He jumped up and lunched the ball at the Spoink.
    Sammy was quick to think, deciding she wanted to boost the large spider's stats. Sammy called for Galvantula to use Agility, then Electro Ball.
    I didnt see the use of Agility to be honest. While it did boost the spiders speed, it was unnessecary. With Spoink paralyzed, the spider was already faster than the pig.
    Nonetheless, Galvantula began running, speeding up. The spider kept gaining speed until it finally became a blur of yellow. Spoink saw this as its opportunity. With a small cry, spoink threw rocks into the path of the large spider. Galvantula was moving too fast to dodge, and slammed into the rocks head first.
    After hitting the rocks, Galvantula came to a stop. Without skipping a beat, the spider shot an elecrrical ball at Spoink. The pig took the qttack, but it didnt seem to phase it much. Spoink bouncee arpund, almost as if it was excited for the battle.
