It was another boring day at the office. All of the runs into the park with Trainers had been snatched up as fast as they were put out there. My only company, my Raticate and my Gliscor, were both fast asleep inside the small cubical. I spun around in the chair, waiting for something to do. Then, something startled me.

My boss, Chainy, stepped through the door. As an underling novice Ranger, I snapped to attention, still spinning on the chair.

"We have a new kid," he said. "And I think that you should take him. You've never taken a first timer."

I nodded. There was no way I was going to argue, but I did agree with him. I had only taken a few runs and this would be good experience. Chainy handed me the file and I set to work.

After waking Gliscor and Raticate, I grabbed my orange-tinted flight goggles and stepped out into the hallway, headed for the front office at the docks. I passed Buzz in the halls, who nodded in my direction.

I passed Ivy, who was arguing with the secretary in the main lobby. I steered clear of her, considering that I did not want to throw myself into another fight. The lobby wasn't very full, a fidgety looking hispanic in the corner was the only other person. He must be my Trainer for today, I thought. Most people were fidgety before their first journey through the park. I know I was.

"Hi!" I said, catching his attention. I then looked down at the file to find his name. "You must be Hise. Let's get started, shall we?"

I had heard a lot about the park and I had finally decided I would like to go to the one of the most famous places in the pokemon world, I took the first train I could and headed to the park, it was only a few blocks away but I was too lazy to go walking since the park is said to be one of the most energetic and challenging places you can go to.

The doors suddenly openned and for my surprise there was a tall man dressed like a ranger with a white little blackboard that said "Hise" I`m sure he is waiting for me since noone knows how to write my name and I made a phone call.

"Hello Hise, how are you today?" the ranger said while I was getting off the bus stairs. "I have been told this is your first time in the park and your mom called us half an hour before to tell us to take good care of you."

I couldn`t believe at all that my mom had actually called, she is way too concerned about me but I guess that`s good, the ranger turned around and started walking towards a big building, I just followed him, when I entered there was a ranger in a huge table wi th a crobat and a gliscor, each one in one side.

"Hey! You must be Hise.Lets get started shall we?" he said really fast.

" Hey, well I`m Jose but you can call me however you want, its a pleasure to meet you," I said happily.

"Hey, well I'm Jose but you can call me however you want," he replied happily. "It's a pleasure to meet you."

He seemed nice, but he spoke with a thick accent and broken english. I made a mental note to go a little easier on him. I motioned for him to follow me to where they kept the jeeps.

We drove for a while to Mt Deckbi, my Gliscor flying overhead. The drive was long, following a dirt road that wound through the valleys and mountains of the island. Before long, we had arrived on the outskirts of the mountain.

We climbed out of the vehicle and, after leaving it at the local Ranger Outpost, began to hike up Mt Deckbi. The mountain was beautiful, considering that it was an active volcano. Clouds floated by, blotting out parts of the mountain for a few seconds with their shadows.

We hadn't climbed far when I spotted a rock that was out of place. Then, it moved, revealing its true form. It had two rocky arms coming out of a body that looked like a good-sized rock.

"Hey Jose," I said to him, pointing at the now-moving rock. "Do you want to capture this Geodude?"

He made a sign for me to follow him so I just went after him to arrive to some jeeps, we took one of them and got going.

After a while we got to Mt. Deckbi, Gliscor was flying over us. The drive was long but we had a lot of thing to enjoy, there was a clear blue sky just above us that kept me distracted and many valleys and mountains, after a while we arrived to the outskirts of the mountain.

We walked for a while until the ranger stopped, he was looking into a rock that I couldn´t find anything wrong with it, suddenly it moved showing us it was a geodude! I was really astonished how did the ranger knew that it wasn´t just a rock?

"Hey Jose," he said to me, pointing at the now-moving rock. "Do you want to capture this Geodude?"

"No thanks," I said heading my head to the sky. "I just have two question for you... first of all what´s your name? And how did you know that rock wasn´t just a rock, that it was a pokemon?"

"No thanks," Jose replied. "I just have two question for you. First of all what's your name? And how did you know that rock wasn't just a rock, that it was a Pokemon?"

"Oh, sorry," I said, remembering that I hadn't even told him my name yet. "I'm Domonic Stone. And as for the Geodude, well... Let's just say that after being a Ranger for a while, you can tell where Pokemon are hiding."

After answering, I led him farther up the mountain side, following the switch-back paths up the steep slope. Soon, the slope that we were hiking along began to level out at an outcropping near a cave. We stopped on the ledge and looked out at the scenery. I could pick out the Meteor Valley in the distance and the local Ranger outpost far below us. The ground on the ledge seemed slightly sandy and the cave ahead looked dark. There was also a path leading farther above us, leading farther up the volcanic mountain. I decided that I would let Jose choose which way he wanted to go.

"Hey Jose," I said. "Which way do you want to go? Into the heart of Mt Deckbi or farther up the slope?"

Just as I finished, my Gliscor landed on the ground next to me. He then pointed his bluish claw behind me. I turned and saw a small shape digging through the sand. It popped its head up and I saw that it was a Sandshrew. They liked the sandy areas of Mt Deckbi and were usually timid creatures, but this one seemed curious about us.

"Well, there's a Sandshrew here," I said. "Do you want to catch it?"

I didn´t even get a chance to answer when his Gliscor landed right next to him while pointing somewhere in the east, we both noticed a Sandshrew.

"Well, there's a Sandshrew here," he said. "Do you want to catch it?"

"I will give it a chance!" I said excited while getting out a pokeball and throwing it towards the Sandshrew. "Go Machamp and use Dynamic Punch!"

    ((Gender on Shrew?))

"I will give it a chance!" Jose said before throwing a Pokeball towards the Sandshrew. "Go Machamp and use Dynamic Punch!"

With a flash of light and a shower of sparks, Jose's Machamp appeared standing on the sand, ready for battle. Seeing the small, brown Pokemon before it, the Machamp began to ready the most powerful attack it could muster. The DynamicPunch attack was an attack that required much precision and accuracy to work. Fortunately, the Machamp's ability aided this particular attack's execution. However, the small Sandshrew had a few tricks up its proverbial sleeve.

As the powerful Fighting type readied a powerful punch, the small mouse Pokemon kicked up a little sand and flung it into the foe's face. Startled, the Machamp stepped back a little, but recovered quickly. With renewed vigor, Machamp slammed the Sandshrew with its fist. The Machamp's blow was a little off, however, and did only a fraction of the potential damage. Regardless, it sent the tiny shrew-like Pokemon flying backwards and the reaction force coupled with the Sandshrew's sudden Sand Attack made them both fall into the sand at the same time.

As both Pokemon began to stumble back to their feet, both caked in sand, it became obvious that something was different. Both struggled more than they should have. The attacks weren't that powerful. Then, I realized that the Machamp had been temporarily blinded by the Sandshrew's Sand Attack. The Sandshrew was also damaged more than could be seen. As part of the DynamicPunch's secondary effects, the shrew Pokemon was confused. As I was thinking, the Sandshrew bumbled around a bit and fell onto the sand again before finding more sturdy footing. This would be an interesting battle.
