Flames danced out of small holes of the gray rock that made up the huge mountain. I gulped, wounding if I would have to go up near the large blasts of heat and ash. I was always a little nervous around fire, and Mt. Deckbi was not a fun place for me. I would prefer to go to Mt. Oktori, M. Deckbi’s cold cousin. It was covered in ice and slow, and one wouldn’t be as hurt if one fell into snow and not boiling lava, or magma depending on weather one was inside or outside the large mountain. I wasn’t the biggest fire type lover ether, I liked bug types, but fire was bad for them. I did own a few fire types, one that I had broth with me, but thought were bought from a local store and I got one from an auction. That was a crazy day.

Thinking about my fire type, I decided to let the one I had brought with me out. A large flaming horse appeared before me. She let out a strange noise that I had learned not to ask about. I had named her Flare, and she seemed like a good choice to have on a mountain of fire types. I lay against the rock that I was sitting on. I watched Flare run around on the rocks. I hoped that the trainer I was to take come soon.

    ( @Joltik; No problemo!))

Kyle walked into the building, smiling to himself as usual. Not much had changed in the park since he had last been to the National Park. Hard to believe, then, that it had been over a year. His expression soured briefly, thinking of that year, before returning to its original state. He didn't like to think about it that much.

Physically, virtually nothing had changed inside the building. The secretary was still there, gazing sternly at the world over her spectacles. The rug was slightly dirty, but just about the same. The signs needed a repaint and the rest of the room could be better, but that was all the same. It wasn't until I caught a look at the map that I'd discovered how much things can change in the blink of an eye. The map, even with its framed position on the wall, looked old. But there was something different from last time. There was a jagged, blank part where the Outer Havens should've been. No physical landforms, nothing but a new Ranger Outpost on the border. It was labeled something, but I couldn't make it out from here. Besides, I'd noticed something slightly more interesting than a dusty map.

A Ranger had managed to enter the room without me noticing. I had applied online, as nearly everyone these days did, minimizing the waiting time. That was good, few things were this fast. She talked to the receptionist briefly, then looked around, a little impatient. A suppressed a chuckle as she noticed me, already waiting in the lobby. I grinned and walked over to introduce myself.

"M' name's Kyle, Kyle Zephyr," I told her.

A boy who seemed to be a little younger then me walked over to me. I looked up and noticed that he was the same person that i was to take through the park. Or that Mountain That was called a park.

"M' name's Kyle, Kyle Zephyr," He said.

"Hi," I said, "I'm Sammy, and I'll be taking you though the park." I turned to face the door that would take us out to the rocky landscape and get this run started. The sooner I got this going the sooner I could take a shower or something. I pushed the door open and lead Kyle outside into the heat.

We walked a few feet up a small hill, and past some rocky foundations, that were made off rock. You could see Mt. Deckbi from here, and if we kept walking this way we would hit the button of the large mount. Then we could clime up either inside or outside the mount. Or we could just not clime it, but most of the Pokemon are found inside of it. Wild winds could be found on the higher parts of it, we would have to be careful if we were to travel up there.

I looked around hopping to see a Pokemon that Kyle would like. I spotted a red lizard like Pokemon, a little flame on it's tail. I recognized it instantly.

"Would you like a Charmander?" I asked

    ( @Joltik; sorry I'm a bit late with this.))

She introduced herself as Sammy. My suspicions were correct, she was to be my Ranger. When I was applying, I had thought of requesting Chainy, the Ranger who took my through the Great Lakes almost a year before, but I had decided against it. This provided me a chance to meet new people, something that I enjoyed. By the way she spoke, she sounded a little older than I was, but it's hard to tell with teenage girls. She could've been anywhere from a year younger to four years older. The complexities of being this age...

Sammy promptly lead me out of the Outpost, and we began the hike up to the peaks of the fiery Mt Deckbi. We followed a well-traveled path, which, by the looks of it, slowly wound up to the Mountain before splitting off in several directions. I couldn't see it clearly from here, maybe I needed a new prescription for my glasses.

I noticed that, while I was looking at the scenery, Sammy was keeping her eye to the sides of the path, as well as ahead of us. I smiled to myself; she was looking for Pokemon. Then, I saw her turn her head sharply. I looked to see what it was that she had seen. Already? A Pokemon?

"Would you like a Charmander?" my Ranger asked me.

Sure enough, there was a Charmander near the underbrush by the side of the path. It was red, with a little flame on the tip of its tail. I thought for a few minutes, thinking about what to do. I was here, after all, to find a fire-type Pokemon for my team. Charmander would eventually evolve into the powerful Charizard, but I was hoping for something a little less common than that. Something a little less used.

"Nah, I don't think so," I told her, giving a small shrug, "if I we can't get away, I'll use the Pokedoll I brought."

While I was thinking of things in my bag, and my options, I remembered something. I quickly fished around in my bag and brought out a small spray canister. It had a colorful picture of rocks and fire on it, along with the words: 'Geodude Repel". I popped the canister open and sprayed its contents around. Hopefully, this would prevent any of those small rock Pokemon from challenging us on our trek.

"Nah, I don't think so," Kyle said as he eyed the little lizard "if I we can't get away, I'll use the Pokedoll I brought."

I understood where he was coming from; Charmanders could be adopted, as long as a good home was provided. I heard a weird swishing sound and soon the smell of Fresh cut grass. I turned to see that he was spraying some repellent, I would guess a rock or ground type repellent, as rock and ground were weak to these types.

I turned around to face the fire lizard, only to see that it had spotted us. It walked towards us, sniffing us, and trying to eat a bit of my pants.

“I guess I’ll be taking that doll now,” I said as I tried to sweep away the Pokemon that was trying to eat my shoes now.

    (( @Joltik;))

I saw Sammy look from me to the advancing Charmander and back again. She obviously wasn't sure what needed to be done. My sudden use of the repellant also might've caught her off guard, a little. Strange, how little things can startle you. The Charmander, however, was the most obvious problem. It had caught our scent, like many lizards do, and had been wandering closer to us, curious about our new smell. Sammy wasn't exactly sure what to do, and neither was I.

The little red lizard Pokemon finally found us and, with a great toothy grin on its face, hugged Sammy's leg. Then, it proceeded to gnaw on the leather of her shoes. Its tail swept back and forth, and I was almost afraid the little flame might catch something on fire. My Ranger was evidently slightly uncomfortable with the close proximity to the source of heat, and tried to brush the Pokemon away as best she could without hurting it.

“I guess I’ll be taking that doll now,” she told me.

I nodded, trying to suppress a smile. I dug into my backpack and produced a small, life-like Clefairy doll. It pushed it up against the Charmander, trying my best to hand the doll to it, as well as redirect its attention away from us. It worked, and the little guy began to play with the Pokedoll instead.

"Well, forwards?" I said, lookning back up at my Ranger.

Kyle took out a small Clefairy doll and handed it to the Charmander. The little lizard sniffed it then started nawing on it. It soon walked away with its prize. It and left a few bite marks on my shoes, and a bit was gone from my pants.

    "Well, forwards?" Kyle said.

“Um, ya” I said, “let’s go, this way!”

We walked closer to the towering mount, walking over a few rocks along the way, the train that we were using was getting harder to see, and we hit a soft patch of earth. I heard a weird sound.

“Do you hear that?” I asked as I looked around, “It sounds like something is near” I looked down, and jumped a little. Cracks had appeared in the ground and before I could move a small brown lump had popped out of the ground.

“Diglett?” It said. The small ground type looked at me, and then looked at Kyle, Then blinked.

“Want to try to catch this one?”

    ( @Joltik;))

Soon, the little fire lizard wandered away with my $500. While it was pleased, I wasn't as happy with how much lighter my pockets felt. Ah well. You win some, you lose some.

“Um, ya” Sammy replied to me, “let’s go, this way!”

I followed her as we walked ever closer to the towering mountain in the distance. We scrambled over a few rocks and past a few scraggly patches of grass. I noticed, almost in the back of my mind, that as we neared the volcano the terrain became slightly more treacherous. Suddenly, my Ranger stopped me.

“Do you hear that?” she asked, “It sounds like something is near.”

While I hadn't heard whatever the noise was, I looked around, trying to find the Pokemon which would have to be near here. However, I failed to look down.

Sammy jumped back a little, and I finally noticed the patch of softer earth below us. Cracks had started to spiderweb around a common epicenter, and eventually a little head poked out. It was brown, with wide, black eyes and a bulbous, pink nose.

    “Diglett?” It said.

The small ground type looked at Sammy, then over at me. It blinked once, twice. It seemed unaccustomed to the bright glare of the sun.

“Want to try to catch this one?” my Ranger asked me.

My mind raced. Diglett. I'd seen it a few times before in my travels. They caused Earthquakes far underground, causing problems for us at the surface. A quick glance to my Pokedex confirmed my suspicions. It was extremely powerful in a Sandstorm, and incredibly fast. Yeah, I wanted one of those.

    "Yeah!" I said excitedly.

I clambered out of the small enclosure, onto one of the larger rocks behind us. It'd be safer up here. I hoped.

"Come on out, Gliscor!" I called, throwing my pal's Pokeball to the ground below.

The FlyScorp Pokemon, my starter and oldest friend, appeared in a flash of red light and shower of small sparks. He looked excited, ready for battle in a strange new terrain. He just loved strangeness, especially when it came to battling. He was interesting that way, but it made things fun.

I looked out to the scene of the impending battle. The Diglett stared up and the newly summoned Gliscor, and blinked again. Then, I noticed something. The small patch of soft earth was completely surrounded by rocks, like the one I was standing on. It was like a small arena. Then, I got an idea. One that might actually work, too.

"Gliscor!" I shouted, catching my Pokemon's attention. "Dive down and cover the ground with a Toxic attack! Make sure both of you get covered in some of the poison!"

It sounded completely crazy, at first. Badly poisoning everyone on the field would seem like a bad idea, and risky too. But Gliscor's ability not only prevented him from being damaged by poison, it would heal him by a little bit of health. If he covered the entire natural arena, he would be sure to get both combatants with the attack. Just the kind of thing quirky thing Gliscor liked.

"Yeah!" Kyle said as he eyed the ground type. He climbed on to one of the near by rocks, and I did the same, stepping out of the sandy area that the Diglett was chilling in. "Come on out, Gliscor!" He added, summing the ground flying type out of its ball. It was a ground flying type, which would mean that Diglett would not be able to hit the flying type unless it would be able to knock it down.

"Gliscor!" Kyle yelled "Dive down and cover the ground with a Toxic attack! Make sure both of you get covered in some of the poison!"

I took a few steps back, and pulled myself out of the sandy area. I did not want to get hit by that attack

Toxic was a risky move, while Gliscor would not get hurt by the effects of it, the Diglett would, and the damage from the poison would get worst as the fight went on. The Diglett would faint unless Kyle caught it before that happened. At least the move was being used in a closed space, and I cringed to think of what would happen if we were in the gardens or the woods were the damage from this move could be worst.

The flying ground type flew down towards the sandy area. It started making a nasty noise, and a large glob of purple liquid(Which smelled horrible as well) was shot out of his mouth. It covered the sandy area, including the Diglett, which was hissing from the pain that the poison was causing it. Gliscor also dived into the sick mess, the because of his ability, it would heal, not hurt. The Diglett opened its small mouth, and let out a horrible noise, making me clamp my hands over my ears, and I could see that Gliscor was trying to do the same. But those pinchers it had for hands did not work as well as human hands did.

The mess of poison that was in the sand area was slowing being sucked into the sand, and I hoped that there weren't any other digging Pokemon in the sand. I made a metal note to either come back here or send someone else out to check. Hopefully the sand would weaken the poison so that it wouldn't be a problem.

Gliscor flew out of the arena, with a few purple drops coming off of him. He looked at kyle, waiting for an order.
