@Fawkes.; Please choose one ability for P-Z and for Lapras for the duration of the run. ^^

    NBP#1

"Let's see... Who to bring, who to bring?" I mumbled to myself as my eyes swept over the Pokeballs and Parkballs spread out on my desk before me. I had claimed another run today, literally screaming for it - with barely any trainers coming into the Park, everyone was just fighting for it. More runs meant more pay, and more fun as well, and we were all a bit short on cash nowadays.

The Great Lakes was full of, well, lakes. But rivers could be found there as well, and sometimes trainers could go surfing by the docks if they had brought the right Pokemon for that task. Daniel, the trainer I was taking today, was going to be bringing a Lapras, according to his file. I figured I might as well bring a Water-type or two of my own as they might come in handy if in case I had to interfere with something. With that thought in mind, I grabbed the ball of one of my most recently acquired partners, a Walrein that had been given to me by a close friend of mine - this would be a nice opportunity to strengthen our bond and get to know each other so that the creature's trust in me would build to a comfortable level. It was always a rather difficult task to build bridges with Pokemon, especially if they'd been from another trainer. I grabbed the Pokeball of my starter, too, for good measure. Kipper was one I could truly place my faith in, after all we'd been through; the Swampert was also one of my most courageous partners, standing up for what he believed was right and plunging into battle dauntlessly every time. Content with my choices, I then grabbed my brown satchel, checking if I had a decent amount of emergency supplies - Pokedolls and different kinds of healing herbs - packed. I slung the bag over my shoulder then walked out of my office with a smile. I loved the Lakes; cool breezes usually blew around there, and it was wide and open. And the Pokemon inhabiting that zone were amazing, as well - though that was a bit of a biased statement, considering how Water-types were my favorite.

Upon exiting the main Ranger Outpost, I noticed my Gallade practicing his telekinetic abilities on random objects outside the Headquarters. Without even glancing at me, he asked me telephatically, <Where are you off to?>

I'm heading over to the Great Lakes, gonna be taking a trainer through there. I responded, rather annoyed at Adrian's nonchalance. He prioritized getting stronger way too much - sometimes even to the point that he would not let any of his teammates do the battling nor would he allow them to train with me more than he did. He'd gotten frustrated a couple of times in the past when my attention had been focused on others, infuriated all the way up to the point that he'd started practicing on his own, his sudden disappearing acts becoming more frequent recenetly. We'd always had a rocky friendship, thanks to his stubborn personality, and this time I decided I'd better be nice to him before things could get any worse. You wanna come with?

<Thank goodness you're not going to the Gardens again!> I rolled my eyes, fighting the urge to reprimand him. <But yeah, I'll come.>

Good. He placed a bench back down on the ground, the blue Psychic-energy surrounding it dissipating into thin air. You'd better get back into your ball 'cos we'll be surfing-

<No way. I am not getting into my ball.> He interrupted me. Since when did he not like staying in his Pokeball? I hardly understood him nowadays.

I humphed, but relented anyway - no use arguing with the Blade Pokemon; it would only destroy what little of our friendship remained. With that, cyan light engulfed me, the back of my nape tingling from contact with the energy. In flash, we'd teleported to the Great Lakes's entrance on the docks side.

I stood on the wooden platform, waiting for Daniel as I gazed at the rushing water, captivated by its magnificence. I felt the enthusiasm bubbling within me, keen on getting this run started and maybe go for a surfing trip later on.

@MuddyMudkip; Hydration for lapras Adaptability for p-z

I could almost see the lakes from the roadside, the sun reflected of the water and cast a bright sheen over the surrounding landscape. This was my fourth expedition to the national park and my first to the great lakes, previously I have only been to the botanic gardens since that kind of environment appeals to me the most since with living in the city I never got to experience nature in its fullest and the botanic gardens seemed to encompass what I've been missing the best. I chose to visit the great lakes this time because recent battles I have competed in have shown my roster has a weak spot in the form of a lack of effective Water types and where better to acquire water types than at the famous great lakes.

It was a long walk to the docks, maybe another twenty minutes, thirty tops. I reached inside my raincoat and pulled a Dusk Ball from one of the hooks designed to hold pokeballs situated on the inside of the coat. I launched the green and black sphere into the air in order to give ample space for the pokemon residing inside to escape. The ball erupted in a red flash and revealed the dark and dragon type pokemon. Aegon begun to slowly flap its wings as it descended to ground level. Despite its attempts at softening its landing, the hydreigon still managed to raise dust off the ground, this of course was made worse by its flapping wings, I managed to pull my arm up to my face to protect my eyes before I was momentarily blinded. I lowered my hand once the dust settled and greeted the large dragon.

"Was getting a little lonely walking out here all by myself. Mind keeping me company?" I asked, half knowing what the answer will be. Aegon said nothing for a few seconds before letting off a half smile and flying off into the sky. "Typical, don't stray too far, I'll need you later!" I shouted off after him, but either my words were eaten by the wind or Aegon didn't hear me since he showed no acknowledgement although its more his style to just ignore me.

It didn't bother me anyway, Aegon was just as excited for this expedition as me, if not more so. Growing up in the city he never has much chance to stretch his wings so its nice to see him get much needed space.

Finally the docks came into view, about five minutes away at most, and even better, the great lakes had become a more prominent feature on the landscape giving me a better view of what was to come. From this view I could see a mixture of large lakes and small lakes, which contradicted my previous image of one epic lake brimmed with hundreds of water pokemon. The lakes seemed to be separated by landmasses built primarily of sand. Above the lakes I could see Aegon soaring over the lakes, knowing him he was probably scouting the park, getting to know his surroundings, it was his nature to know everything about his surroundings.

I reached the entrance to the docks and looked to the sky thinking Aegon would join me for the beginning but there was no sign of him in the immediate area, knowing he would come when he would be needed I decided to just continue on, I have other pokemon to use if he decides to admire the scenery more. Being reminded of my other pokemon I frisked the inside of my yellow raincoat feeling for my other partners, there were two more balls hanging off the hooks on the inside. Since it was a trip to the lakes it was almost a necessity to bring my Lapras along since she would be a means of transport if it came down to it. As well as lapras I brought my Porygon-z, since it is arguably my most versatile pokemon.

I passed the entrance and walked along the coast, my excitement peaked once again the moment the water spray hit my face. I scanned along the coast line looking for any indication of my ranger. just a short walk away I could see a small dock extending over onto the lake and two figures standing on the end of it since there were no other people in the vicinity I assumed that was my ranger and started towards them.

"Hi, I'm Daniel, are you my ranger" I called walking towards them, it was only until I got closer I realised one of the figures was actually a gallade.

I lifted my gaze to the sky, watching the white fluffy clouds float by. A creature that appeared to be a Hydreigon was gliding through the air, and a puzzled expression overcame my face. "Tyri?" I blurted out. I wondered if that was my Brutal Pokemon. Adrian shook his head, and I relaxed a bit. Perhaps it was the trainer's partner - after all, his file did say that he was bringing one along.

"Daniel should be here soon," I then concluded, if that actually was his Pokemon. My eyes settled on the other entrance to the Great Lakes, one that could be reached by walking. At that moment, the figure of a male human strode in.

His eyes swept over the area as I waved to him. He walked over to us, introducing himself as Daniel.

"Hey," I greeted, smiling. "Yeah, I'm your ranger, alright. Elisa Fleming's my name." I pointed at the various lakes dotting the zone. "We can check those out first then perhaps explore the river later. Pokemon here tend to make themselves comfortable in the lakes, or hide in the grass surrounding them. We'll be sure to find a couple of 'mons there, at least."

I led the trainer over to one of the closer lakes first. It was one of the smaller ones, known to be inhabited by younger Pokemon. The grass surrounding it was damp, as though some splashing had just occurred. My eyes watched for any signs of wild entities, but there weren't any here. I waved Daniel on to another lake, this one much larger than the last. An audible splash and spurts of water alerted us to something on the other end of this second pool. We circled around, finding ourselves face-to-face with a yellow-colored specimen.

It was floating on the water, the lower portion of its round body submerged. It stared at us with its blank eyes, as though its thoughts were elsewhere. Its vacant expression unnerved me as small ripples of water moved it around. It didn't even seem to be sensing anything, as if stunned into immobilization. But then again, all Duck Pokemon were usually found in this sort of condition, thanks to their headaches. They were not to be underestimated, though - they had some pretty honed Psychic powers, and if the pain in its head happened to worsen, he could unleash wave after wave of this strong energy.

"Are you interested in a Psyduck?" I asked Daniel.

"Hey" She smiled, "Yeah, I'm your ranger alright, elesa flemming's my name" she was a new face, not a ranger I recognise but then again I probably couldn't describe my previous rangers to save my life. "We can check those out first then perhaps explore the river later. Pokemon here tend to make themselves comfortable in the lakes, or hide in the grass surrounding them. We'll be sure to find a couple of 'mons there, at least."

I gave but only a nod to acknowledge the game plan, as long as it took me to pokemon I had no issue with what path we take besides, she is the ranger and she must know her stuff. We walked towards one of the relatively smaller lakes. It wasn't huge so I could safely assume we wont find any of the larger water pokemon like Gyarados or Milotic and definitely not Wailord. We walked along a grassy bank while Elesa scanned the lake for a pokemon. The grass beneath our feet was noticeably damp which indicated that there were pokemon here recently splashing about. The sounds the mud made as we walked along made me grateful that I remembered to bring my raincoat with me. Its going to be a wet expedition.

Once Elesa had decided there was no pokemon to be had here she led me to one of the larger lakes that rested nearby. This lake was noticeably larger and had a lot more potential for interesting pokemon than the last. It seemed quiet around here too and I was starting to look towards other lakes nearby until I noticed Elesa start to walk around to the other end of the lake. Suddenly a sense of excitement rushed through me, the prospect of battling a new pokemon in the park after so long was pretty cool. That was until I saw what pokemon Elesa found. The small yellow duck sat there in the water making no move, just looking at us doing god knows what..

"Are you interested in a Psyduck?" Elesa asked, but I already knew the answer the second I saw it.

"No thank you, I'm not a big fan of psyducks" I slung my backpack round my body to give me easy access and pulled out a poketoy. "I'll use this old poketoy if it decides to give us trouble"

"No, thank you," Daniel replied immediately. "I'm not a big fan of Psyducks." He retrieved a Poketoy from his backpack, readying it in case the Water-type decided to hinder us from moving on.

I nodded, leading the trainer away from the wild creature by continuing on with our circumnavigation of this lake. I was careful to step over a bush, seeing as how its kind was actually the only type of plant blooming in this area of the Park - the rest of the land in between the lakes was filled with sand, with little blades of grass only sprouting about around the smallest ponds closest to the main gate as well as near the river bank.

But then, another splashing sound grabbed my attention, and I risked a glance back at the Psyduck. It hit the water with its arms once again then pulled itself out of the lake. It began to walk toward us in a funny manner, swaying from side to side, as though its headache was still getting to it. Did the pain ever stop, I wonder? I nodded at the trainer, who handed over the toy, hoping to satisfy the duck. It stared at the object for a while, a blank look coming across its face. Then, it turned on its heel, walking away with the same wobbly gait as earlier.

We continued on, moving away from this second lake and onto one of the saltwater ones to our right. A small blue creature bounced its way towards us, propelling itself forward with the use of its apparently very strong tail. The tail itself had the same blue shade as the rest of its body, and was considerably large, and possibly rubbery. It made marks in the sand as it continued to travel towards us, the grin on its face spreading wide, all the way up to the white dots on its cheeks.

    "Want to battle that Azurill?"

    @MuddyMudkip; 4k - 0.5k = 3.5k

We begun to walk away from the Psyduck leaving it by itself in the lake. Elesa started to lead us towards another lake just a bit further on.

However it wasn't long until the psyduck took action, the small yellow duck climbed the bank and begun to waddle towards us in a somewhat ridiculous manner. I looked to Elesa for some sort of confirmation and she returned my look with a nod. As the Psyduck walked closer I bent down to my knees and presented the poketoy to it, whether or not it liked it I couldn't tell, during the whole interaction it showed no emotion except a blank face and a slight hint of pain. Without saying anything the psyduck pulled a one-eighty and returned to its lake.

Once Psyduck had been dealt with Elesa continued onto the other lake. The air around this one was saltier than the last giving way to the fact this was in fact a saltwater lake, what differences in habitation that can is unknown to me but it certainly didn't take long for the next encounter to appear. The small blue pokemon came bouncing up on its tail towards us.

"Want to battle this azurill?" Elesa asked me.

"No, not really haha" to be honest I would have rather taken the psyduck, they were more rarer considering azurills were common in the pokemon marketplace. "Lets just keep going, I'll buy a pokedoll if this azurill has the same drive as the psyduck"

"Let's just keep going," Daniel replied, pulling out a bill or two. "I'll buy a Pokedoll if this Azurill has the same drive as the Psyduck."

I shook my head firmly at the approaching Pokemon, hoping to tell it off. "Not this time, little guy." Still, it kept bouncing towards us, each step getting even springier. It hopped its way over to the trainer, jumping up and down in front of him, seemingly wanting to play. It let out cries of happiness as it bobbed up and down, as if trying to persuade Daniel to change his mind and battle it.

The trainer passed me 500 in cash, which I slipped into my bag. I pulled out a standard pink toy, handing it over to the wild creature. It balanced the doll on its head, seeing as it had no arms, then leaped away with a yelp of thanks, filling our ears with its giddy yaps as it traveled around the place.

I turned my attention back to the saltwater lake, watching for any signs of movement. My eyes scanned the whole of it, watching even the sand surrounding it. And then, right in the middle of the lake, the water began to move in a swirling fashion, twirling 'round and 'round. Emerging from underwater, right in the middle of the funnel, was a long snout that belonged to an entity primarily blue in coloration. Its head popped up as it continued to spin around, revealing a number of spikes dotting the side and top. Its torso was covered with cream-colored and rough-looking scales, while its pectoral fins had cream-colored pointed tips that were known to shoot out poison if the seahorse sensed danger.

I pointed it out to Daniel. "There's a Seadra over there. Are you interested?" This species were the evolved form of Horsea and would later evolve into the powerful and very much sought-after Kingdra. I wouldn't be surprised if the trainer wanted to battle it, though he might decline the offer if he had one of his own already. Still, they were in rather high demand on the market - I, myself, aspiring to have a partner like the Dragon Pokemon we'd just encountered.

@MuddyMudkip; Female seadra and using frgrance to eliminate 5000 characters

"Not this time little guy"" Elesa turned to the Azurill, but the pokemon had spunk and continued bouncing towards us, ignoring all requests not to. Soon enough it had hopped up in front of me with one of the biggest smiles I have ever seen on a pokemon, in a way it was sort of cute. For a split second I almost changed my mind, the pokemon would have been a nice partner for my sister since she still needs her first pokemon but that thought soon fleeted I can only bring three pokemon out of this trip and I'm gonna need all the pokemon I could get. Besides a first pokemon should be a bond between trainer and pokemon, it wouldn't be right if I was to show up home and tell her this was her first pokemon. Realising the Azurill wasn't just going to leave, reluctantly I brought my hand round to my pocket and pulled out a wad of notes that I previously had bundled into stacks each worth five hundred dollars knowing I would get into these situations. Once I had double-checked it was five hundred I passed it to Elesa, she slipped it into her bag and in the same trip pulled out a pink pokedoll. Once the pokedoll was brought before the Azurill all attention it had focused on me was almost instantly redirected towards the pokedoll. Elesa propped the doll on top of its head, letting off a squee it hopped away in the same manner it approached us.

As I continued to watch the Azurill Elesas attention had turned back to the saltwater lakes searching for the next pokemon, realising the task still at hand I joined her on the banks thinking I may be able to spot something she didn't. As usual there was not a single pokemon in sight, it was so quiet that if you had no idea where you were, a pokemon enclosure would not be your first guess. I figured we were going to move on so started to look about and guess where our next destination would be, that was until Elesa pointed out to the centre of the lake. A medium sized whirlpool begun to form slowly first but gradually started to gain momentum, from the centre, the eye of the storm so to say, a blue spiky head begun to rise, I instantly recognised the pokemon and got a short feeling of excitement as the upper part of its body begun to show since this pokemon was part of the line I came here to obtain.

"There's a Seadra over there. Are you interested?" Elesa asked, she probably knew the answer but it was protocol to ask regardless.

"Most definitely" I replied eager to get this battle on the go, Seadra wasn't my preferred pokemon of this line to battle but it was better than going toe to toe with kingdra, it was well known that kingdras were formidable foes and this seadra isn't going to go down without a fight. "I'll use this calming fragrance plus to ease the seadra up" reaching into my bag I pulled out a spray bottle I received in a promotion a while ago. Aiming it into the sky between the Seadra and me I squeezed the trigger releasing an aromatic liquid designed to ease pokemon up and make them easier to catch. The calming scent overpowered the salty air.

Reaching inside my raincoat I pulled out a pokeball from its clip. Double-checking it was the right one I tossed it towards the seadra, in a flash of red a synthetic pokemon appeared. Chick-fil-a was my porygon-z and one of my more recent companions, I brought it along due to its versatility.

"Ok Porygon, Lets kick this off with a Thunder Wave!" the digital pokemon beeped in compliance and begun charging a large bead of electric current at the tip of it's 'beak'. Once enough current had been amassed Porygon-z released the surge in the direction of the Seadra.

I looked on anticipating the Seadras counter.

“Most definitely,” Daniel answered immediately, enthusiasm evident in his voice, as he reached into his bag. He brought out a spray-type bottle which I had thought to be a potion at first until he told me, “I’ll use this calming fragrance plus to ease the Seadra up.” Ah, yes, of course - as this particular Pokemon was sure to be quite a resilient opponent, it was a good idea to try and calm her down first before attempting to wage a battle with her. A rash and angry foe was definitely a force to be reckoned with, after all, and not one you would usually find yourself wanting to go head-to-head with in its violent state.

The trainer squeezed the container’s lever, triggering a steady stream of sweet-smelling liquid to spew out from the bottle’s nuzzle. The soothing aroma filled the atmosphere around us, the salty breezes allowing the fragrance to waft its way towards the wild entity. As I breathed in the new air, I felt a sudden surge of warmth and peace inside of me; I was sure the Water-type experienced this sensation as well. It was overpowering, really; I could barely taste the remaining traces of seawater scents in the air now - just little vestiges of saltiness here and there.

With that, the teen retrieved a red-and-white orb from inside his coat. He gave it a once-over, as if trying to make sure he’d grabbed the right Pokeball, before tossing it out towards the lake. The sphere snapped open with a flood of white light, releasing a Porygon-Z near the water’s edge. While the Seadra did happen to take notice of Chick-fil-a’s presence almost immediately, she seemed to be much too captivated by the relaxing atmosphere to give it much thought anyway, thus creating just the opening, the first step, Daniel needed to usher the battle to move in his direction, to work to his advantage.

“Let’s kick this off with a Thunder Wave!” he called out eagerly. The Virtual Pokemon gave a machine-like beep in acknowledgement and set to work with charging up bolts of electricity from within its encrypted body.

Throwing itself forward, the Porygon-Z unleashed a golden wave, which was comprised of multiple electrical currents, from its round beak towards the unassuming seahorse. The tendrils latched onto her blue body, wrapping themselves around her as they shot volts upon volts of electricity into her bloodstream, letting their energy seep into her.

Bound by the tight sparking coils whose grasps were only growing even more secure with each passing moment, only then did the wild creature realize that she was being attacked, only then did she truly notice the situation she was in and the enemy she sought to overpower. She let out a cry in protest, struggling against the firm grip of her electrical prison. Her side gills puffing rather wildly from effort, she tried pushing her way out of the spiral trap but to little to no avail. Still, she didn’t even seem to be, in the slightest bit, fazed at her failed escape attempts; in fact, she looked extremely calm despite the compromising circumstances.

The yellow threads of electricity slowly loosened their grasp, allowing her to breathe normally again as they dissipated into thin air. They left something for the Water-type to remember them by, of course - a large amount of volts were now coursing through her blood, threatening to conquer her at any given moment. Paralysis could be a very hindering condition, indeed, as being inflicted with it would mean slower movements on your part and a continuous struggle against the Electric-type energy shocking your nerves every now and then... Sometimes, you wouldn’t even be able to move anymore. And rendering a foe incapable of motion was definitely a well-known and certainly useful strategy in turning the tables in one’s favor.

With a neutral expression plastered on her face, the Seadra began to swim back and forth across the length of the lake, finding that her flexibility and speed were no longer in top-shape. She did not seem to be at all bothered by this, and instead went about trying to gain back some momentum by circling the circumference of the pool as fast as her fins would allow her. Her movements seemed rather sluggish, admittedly, compared to her earlier whirling about when we had spotted her. The seahorse’s velocity seemed to increase with every lap around the lake as she fought to counteract the status ailment she had been induced with. She was definitely more agile now, which meant that she had a higher chance of being able to evade attacks, as long as her paralysis didn't take control over her, preventing her from any sort of movement.

As she came to a stop in the center of the lake, she faced the Virtual Pokemon with a look of determination, while still having the aura of a creature very much at peace with herself and the things happening around her. With a huff, she unleashed a barrage of bubbles from her long snout, directing it to sweep around the area in an attempt to spread out the blast of transparent spheres. One steady stream found its way towards the Porygon-Z, the bubbles shooting themselves into it continuously at high velocities and popping upon contact. The rest of the attack was left to float around the area, blanketing the atmosphere with layers upon layers of brilliant bubbles.

Chick-fil-a seemed particulalry pleased with the hovering little spheres, despite being rammed into by a couple of them just moments before, and it gave a little whoop of glee, somersaulting in the air. It was utterly fascinated with the bubbles, its eyes twinkling as it gazed intriguingly at them. I guess this kind of reaction was to be expected of its Jolly nature - the Normal-type just wanted to play, to have fun! And the array of bubbles was definitely doing its job, keeping the Virtual Pokemon's spirits soaring and making sure that it was enjoying itself.

The bubbles could be a bit of a hindrance to the trainer and his partner, though - if the Porygon-Z was too enthralled with the transparent circles, it might forget about the battle and the opponent, might forget about attacking; likewise, it could be very prone to taking assaults from the Seadra head on, without even noticing that the wild entity was already striking. Furthermore, the bubbles sortof acted as a barrier between the two Pokemon; Chick-fil-a would have to weave its way around the spheres and risk being distracted by their magnificence before being able to reach the target. Daniel would have to think of a way to lessen the chances of his Pokemon getting stalled by the bubbles, or eliminate them completely.
