After being informed of my newest trainer to take through the Park, I had decided that I wanted to do this run a little differently. His name was Leo and he was heading out to Mount Oktori, like so many were heading these days. Usually, the wweather here is cold, snowy, windy and basically uninhabitable. Today however, it was surprisingly hot. The sun was shining above the snowy mountaintops and the sky was a bright cyan colour.

Obviously, Oktori was a very risky place to go to wearing just shorts and a t-shirt, so I wore them anyway. There wasn't a chance I was missing the sunniest day of the decade at Oktori. I took the time to head on over past the first cabin outpost and to head to the port, by the docks to wait for my trainer. There were two large posts, the only entrance to the enclosed mountainous area. Here, brittle grass grew but there was more vegetation here than anywhere else at Oktori.

After just a few minutes of enjoying the heat, I saw a figure advancing in the distance. I figured it must be my trainer, so I gave him a wave and waited for him to get a little closer.

"I wonder if we will get in trouble for being here." I said to Shadow as we ran through the Mt. Oktori area of the National Park. Shadow just grinned and continued running. I knew that grin meant 'only if we get caught'. We had come to the island early and undetected so we could look around the island without "parental supervision" before our actual expedition began. It was more of a rush this way. We had almost been caught back at the gardens by one of the Elite Rangers named Chainy, but we got past him pretty easily. We had spent the entire morning at the gardens looking for a Sawk to catch, but we didn't have any luck.

"I guess we should head over to the main office so we can start this. I want to get out before night so we can head back over here and pretend nothing ever happened, especially if we actually caught one before this even started. “I heard that place is fun at night." About fifteen minutes later we made it out of the Oktori and were at the main building. I walk in and saw a red headed Ranger putting his moves on a beautiful blonde lady behind the desk. I was about to go up to him, but I figured he'd be too annoyed if I bothered him. Instead, I saw another ranger with a Xatu eyeing the red headed ranger angrily. I guessed he was trying to hook up with the desk lady as well, didn't look like it was going to well for him.

"Excuse me, do you know where Ranger Jay is?" I asked. He glared at me for several moments before replying.

"He's already at Oktori waiting for you." He said, moving his eyes back to the redhead and the blonde.

"Uhh, thanks." I said, walking out of the building. "I would hate to be a lady and work here." I said grinning to Shadow. He nodded. I pulled out a dark green and black Pokeball and tossed it in front of me. A dark green, red, and black Psychic Pokemon emerged from the ball.

"I wasn't expecting to be out this early." She said telepathically. I just shrugged.

"Well, I need you to teleport us to Oktori. You can stay out and I'll use you in battle first." She nodded and began chanting rhythmically. Within seconds the whole area lit up and I could feel myself being transported. It felt like I was floating, being pushed by a soft wind. Before I knew it I was standing in front of the entrance of Mt. Oktori once again. I was a bit surprised when we arrived. Although I was just here, I noticed that it was insanely hot. I probably missed this because I was in the caves in the morning, but for a place that was supposed to be really cold with blizzards and such, it was crazy hot. Shadow seemed to love it though.

“Hmm, this is weird.” I said to him.

“Agreed, but you got to love it.” He said. In a way, he was right. It felt sort of nice having the sun shining down on you. The heat from the sun warming you up and the cold from the snow cooling you down at the same time, it felt pretty amazing.

“Well, this should be fun.” I said to Shadow. “At least we know which areas to not look in for a Sawk. Being an Elite Ranger and all, we should be able to go on runs on our own. We look after the park, so I’m pretty sure we can look after ourselves.” I shrugged.

“I don’t know, it could be a liability thing. They don’t want any of you getting hurt being out here by yourselves or something.” Shadow said. “It is usually fun having someone ‘watch over’ us though. Especially if we accidently lose them like that one time back at the Botanical Gardens, good times. That was fun.

“Haha, that Ranger was freaking out. He was new and didn’t know I was an Elite Ranger. I felt really bad afterwards though because he thought he was going to be fired for losing us. It was fun nonetheless though. We should do that to all the new Rangers, it would be pretty cool. Like an initiation prank or something like that.
“You and your ideas.” Shadow said laughing. “Just make sure I’m there if you do that again. Would be fun to see!”

“Yeah. Hopefully this run won’t take too long and we actually find what we’re looking for.” I sighed. “It would suck if we didn’t even find Sawk here, seeing how we didn’t find Cryogonal last time we were here. Though that run wasn’t a total loss since we did get Sneasel, Delibird, and Swinub. I just have to complain though because I really wanted one and we might have to come back here for one after this, assuming we actually get Sawk.” Shadow just grumbled. I agreed with him, I wanted to move on already, but we needed at least to get a Sawk first before we could stop coming back to this Oktori area. I looked around and saw my ranger standing by the Outpost sign.


"Hey!" I called out over to him. I ran over towards him. "I'm Leo, and this is Shadow. The main reason we're here is for a Sawk, Scraggy, Timburr, or Machop, would by cool too,..., but mainly Sawk. And I got this disc as well." I said pretty fast, I tried not to sound too excited, but I always enjoyed getting new Pokémon on my team. I pulled out my Pokeplayer and put in my first Sawk Voice Disc, my finger shakily hanging over the play button. "Just let me know when I can play this." I said, accidently pushing the play button. A loud roar came from the player. "Oops, didn't mean to click that."

"Hey! I'm Leo, and this is Shadow. The main reason we're here is for a Sawk, Scraggy, Timburr, or Machop, would by cool too,..., but mainly Sawk. And I got this disc as well," the trainer said quickly. He seemed excited to be here at Oktori so I felt I had to make this trip enjoyable for him. I saw him whip out a small compact disc and it gleamed a little as the sunlight hit it.

"I'm Jay and I'll be escorting you today. Lucky for us the day is amazingly warm, huh?"

He too looked happy about the warm weather and then began to speak again on why he came here for, "Just let me know when I can play this," he said before a deep roar came from the disc. He blushed a little before stammering "Oops, didn't mean to click that."

"Let's head on, shall we?"

And so we set off, heading down the mountainside, sliding over the almost-dead grass until it started to become patchier and barren, replaced with the craggy rocky surface Oktori was knwon for. The few thin, struggling trees became more and more sparce as we continued until we find ourselves in the midst of a wide field of rock and bits of pebbles littered around the place. I was sweating a little when I noticed the human-like shape ahead. At first, I thought it may very well have been a mirage in the heat, but soon the deep-blue colour made me realise it was a Pokemon... and just what my trainer had been looking for.

"Look, Leo," I said quietly. "It may not have noticed us so now would be the best time to prepare for battle, if you still are looking for one of these." The Sawk appeared to be moving slowly, spreading arms and legs around in circles, perhaps perfoming some early morning martial arts.

"I'm Jay and I'll be escorting you today. Lucky for us the day is amazingly warm, huh?" I nodded in agreement. It was good that the sun was out. Meant Shadow and Flamefeather’s Fire type moves did that much more in battle than they already did. As long as we stayed outside, those Fire type moves would be crazy strong. "Let's head on, shall we?"

“Why of course Jay, lead the way.” I said. I already knew which way not to go, so if I saw him heading in that location that I already checked, I’d let him know somehow without arousing suspicion. I’d call it my sixth sense or something like that. We walked for a bit without finding anything. That wasn’t usually a good sign. It usually meant that what I was looking for wasn’t in the area. Which meant this could be a waste of my time, something I hated doing.

“Hmm, we didn’t check this area, but I’m not too sure anything is here.” I said to Shadow through the mind link Mindbender, my Gardevoir had set up for my Pokémon and I with her Psychic powers. This link came in handy all the time. For starters, it let me communicate with my Pokémon effectively and let me understand them clearly. I could already tell what Shadow was thinking because we had that kind of bond, but this mind link made all that much clearer. It also made battling much more interesting because I didn’t have to call out my moves and alert my opponent of what I was using so it sort of gave me an advantage.

“Yeah, I don’t smell anything around here either.” Shadow shrugged. “Could be all this snow though interfering with my sense of smell. Wait..., I think I got something?” I stopped and looked at him.

“What is it?” I asked him curiously and impatiently. I began walking again when Shadow didn’t answer. He had his eyes closed and his nose high in the air. He was tracking the scent that he had caught onto. I really hoped he was onto Sawk’s scent, but like he said, this snow could be messing up with his sense of smell.

“Yeah, there is one definitely here.” He finally said, opening his eyes. “Keep your eyes peeled.”

“Do you know more or less which direction?” I asked him.

“Mhm, somewhere in that direction.” He said, pointing North, which led a little higher up on the mountain.

"Look, Leo," Jay said quietly. "It may not have noticed us so now would be the best time to prepare for battle, if you still are looking for one of these."

“Gotcha,” I whispered back to my Ranger. I was already preparing to battle him, I just wasn’t sure which Pokémon I would use. I pulled out my Pokedex and a pair of green headphones from my backpack. Then I plugged in the headphones into the jack on my Pokedex so that I could hear what it had to say without letting Sawk know we were here. It gave me time to prepare. I squatted near a bush, peeking over to see what it was doing. It appeared to be doing some exercises. His lean body flexed as he threw punches at a tree. He had blue, rocky skin, and a white and black martial arts outfit. His head was almond-shaped, with a skewed "Z" shape over his nose and left eye, sort of like a scar. The collar of his outfit was rimmed in black, and the sleeves sport a crisscrossed pattern. He had three fingers on each hand and a black belt, which meant he was a master of karate. “Wow, I feel like we’re on one of those Animal Planet shows.” I said to my Ranger. We were observing the Pokémon in its natural habitat. A green light shot out of my Pokedex and hit Sawk. Since you couldn’t feel the light, Sawk was still unaware of our presence, or so I thought.

Sawk – The Karate Pokémon. Sawk is a Fighting type Pokémon with the ability Sturdy or Inner Focus and the hidden ability, Mold Breaker. These Pokémon are blue with a white and black karate uniform on. Sawk are all male species just like Throh, it is unknown how they reproduce. The black belt around Sawk’s waist is often undone, but once tied, it powers Sawk up, giving him more power. They train in mountains to not be disturbed. The sound of Sawk punching boulders and trees can be heard all the way from the mountains where they train. Tying their belts gets them pumped and makes their punches more destructive. Disturbing their training angers them.

“Hmm, well. We know one thing for sure.” I whispered to Shadow and Jay, “He will definitely be angry that we’re disturbing his training. I then thought about who I was going to use. I knew Skullcruncher would love to battle Sawk, despite his disadvantage. That was one thing that I liked about Skullcruncher, he sure didn’t back down just because his opponent had a type advantage over him. He was always looking for strong Pokémon that he could battle. He would hardly attack someone he considered weaker than him, unless they attack first. Flamefeather would also be good, but I knew this guy knew a couple of Rock type moves, and I wasn’t quite sure if it knew Ground type moves. Mindbender was the obvious choice for this battle. She was a Psychic type with a shiton of extra moves. Her powerful Psychic move would be perfect here. She also had a bunch of other type of moves that made her extremely useful. She also knew an array of status inflicting moves. She had one for each status condition. Hypnosis for sleep, Thunder Wave for paralysis, Will-o-Wisp for burn, Toxic for poison and even the minor ones like Confuse Ray and Swagger for confusion and Attract for the love spell. She had it all.

I particularly wasn’t too interested in using any of those status inflicting moves on Sawk until the end. Right now, I wanted to see what he was made of and just how he did in battle. For that, I was going to need Skullcruncher. Skullcruncher already battled Throh and was successful, but Sawk was much leaner and quicker. He would prove to be a stronger opponent than Throh was. I wanted to see how he did against this guy; it sure as hell would be a fun and interesting battle.

“Mindbender, I know I said you would battle, but do you mind if Skullcruncher takes this one?” I asked her. I hated not keeping my word, but I didn’t want the battle to be over too quickly, and I wanted to see how Skullcruncher held up against this Pokémon.

“Okay, fine.” She sighed, “He can have this battle.”

“Awesome, thanks!” I said to her.

“When we get to Deckbi though, I’m battling.” She grinned.

“Alright fine, sorry Shadow, looks like you won’t be getting that battle.” I laughed.

“Ugh, this is what I get for leading you here, I see.” He joked.

“Haha, I’ll get you a battle, I just want Skullcruncher to have this, because I know he really wants it.” I said to him.

“Alright Skullcruncher, time to make our presence known.” I said, I whispered, tossing out a Pokeball. A large black dragon with two arm-like heads appeared in front of me and roared loudly, if Sawk didn’t already know we were here, it sure did now. I knew Hydreigon were known to be violent, destructive, and brutal in battle, but Rex’s was pretty tamed.

“Ha, this should be interesting.” Skullcruncher said to me. He was the type of Pokémon that had to do something before he believed it. I felt that he knew he was stronger, but he had to prove it like always, which was fine with me as long as he didn’t knock out Sawk, or vice versa. “What am I going to use against him.

“Okay buddy, start this off with Bulldoze, then go into Earth Power. Speed will be key here in this battle. We need to make sure we’re faster than him so that you can defend if needed.”

“Alright, sounds good.” He agreed, getting into position. He dug his two head-like claws into the ground and charged at Sawk. This move would knock the big guy over and somehow lower his speed. I wasn’t totally sure how it did that, but I knew how this move worked. Then, his body would glow gold, and the ground all around Sawk and him would begin to crack and shake. Then a large pillar of earth comes out from underneath Sawk and hits him. Not only would this move do more because it was stronger than Bulldoze, but because Hydreigon were known for their high Special Attack, and Earth Power was a Special Attack move, making it that much stronger. I stepped back as Skullcruncher began his assault with Bulldoze. If all went well, I could move on to the next step in my plan. I planned on calming it down later with a fragrance and capturing it with a Hyperball. I wasn’t totally sure whether or not I would be staying here after I captured Sawk. I was getting kind of tired of this place, even though today felt real good.​

“Gotcha,” Leo whispered back to me, slowly and quietly retreiving a Pokedex and a pair of headphones. He input the data for Sawk and I saw his eyes light up as the screen started to fill with information. “Wow, I feel like we’re on one of those Animal Planet shows," he said as he scrolled down through the information, taking it all in. It was definitely a smart idea. “Hmm, well. We know one thing for sure.” I whispered to Shadow and Jay, “He will definitely be angry that we’re disturbing his training."

After a little while, Leo seemed to have reached a verdict as he began to speak once more, “Alright Skullcruncher, time to make our presence known.” With the toss of a Pokeball, a huge black-coated blue dragon shot out. It had several, fierce heads and it flew down low. There was something quite intimidating about the dragon compared to other Dragon types like Altaria and Dragonite. Suddenly, the Hydreigon rushed forwards, obviously preparing an attack. I watched in fascination as the Sawk continued to do his very relaxed and calm exercise slowly, despite the Hydreigon flying straight towards him.

Then, as Hydreigon dove down at Sawk, three heads hissing, Sawk swiftly moved backwards, creating a very smooth arc with his foot that allowed him to pivot out of the way. The Hydreigon couldn't shake the momentum that had been building up and went scrawling into the ground. It was up in just a second and was already preparing another move, clearly not too bothered by Sawk's attempt to screw with it. Sawk's eyelids finally slid open as he looked at the dragon. His face was just as passive as ever. Hydreigon appeared to just be hovering there, waiting on Sawk's move but as I saw the ground beneath Sawk suddeny erupt, sending Sawk flying up into the air, I realised this was an Earth Power attack.

The fact that Sawk was sent shooting into the air, being barrage by clumps of dirt and rocks surely would hurt it a bit, but as it shot up I saw the passive look on its face did not falter for even a second, instead, its arms raised up slowly forming a meditating position as it shot trhough the air. Then to my astonishment, Sawk made a head first dive at Hydreigon from above, propelling his body like a torpedo, palms outstretched. Hydreigon was caught off gaurd by this and received two strong fists to the stomach, before Sawk fell, landing on the ground with a soft grunt. It seemed to be panting a little.

“That was a great job, buddy.” I said to Skullcruncher after he preformed his moves. He got hit a little, and the attack looked like it hurt, but I felt that he was still in it with more power. Sawk had used a move called Rock Smash, which had a high tendency of lowering the defenses of whoever got hit by the attack. It wasn’t something I was counting on, and it surely wasn’t something I had expected him to use, but now that he had, I was going to have to find a way to slow him down. The easiest and most effective way was to use Thunder Wave, but doing so was going to be hard. I’d either have to combine it with a move, or hope that it hits Sawk and doesn’t miss.

I had a feeling it would miss, so I was already working on a backup plan just in case it did. First, after Thunder Wave, I would have him power up with Work Up. Then, I would have him attack hard with a move. Which move, I was still unsure of. I wanted to use something strong like Dark Pulse, but I knew Dark type moves, even with Work Up, would do next to nothing to a Fighting type like Sawk. No, I would have to use something like Dragon Pulse.

“So what am I using now, boss?” Skullcruncher said to me, not taking his eyes off of Sawk.

“Alright, we’ll go on the defensive side this time. Mainly because I want to try capturing it soon, and because I am still unsure if your defenses are lowered or not yet.” I said to him.

“Hmm, sounds like a Thunder Wave then.” He grumbled, “Okay then.”

“Yeah, that and Work Up followed by Dragon Pulse.” I said to him. “So I want you to try and paralyze him with Thunder Wave, then quickly power up with Work Up, then attack with Dragon Pulse.”

“Sounds easy enough.” He responded to my plan.

“Yeah, it does, but it won’t be unless Sawk is paralyzed.” I shrugged. “You many have to get in close.”

“Leave that to me then.” He grinned. Skullcruncher began forming a blue ball of electricity. It sort of looked like Lucario’s Aura Sphere attack, but this one had small bursts of electricity coming out of it. Skullcruncher moved in closer and then fired the blue orb. If it hit, Sawk would then be paralyzed. If it didn’t, then I would have to find some other way to paralyze him or do some other status move. Skullcruncher didn’t have any more though so I would probably have to rely on the after effects of something like Flamethrower.

After he launched his Thunder Wave attack, Skullcruncher’s body momentarily became surrounded by a light red aura, this was a sign that his special attack and attack stats were beginning to rise. Whenever he would attack, if Work Up was successful, he would flash red again.

Then, if all worked out as planned. Skullcruncher would bring up his arms and begin forming three small orbs. One would form in his mouth, and the other two in between each of his head-like arms. The small turquoise colored balls would grow bigger until they meshed together. Then Skullcruncher would flash red if Work Up worked, signifying that he was powered up and unleash a turquoise stream of rings that would end up hitting Sawk if successful. If something from this plan went off wrong, then Skullcruncher might be hurt more than I wanted him to be and put us at a disadvantage. If that came up, then I would have to use something else. I couldn’t switch because Skullcruncher would feel that I didn’t trust him enough and that he wasn’t strong enough for this. I knew he was, but that is just how he would feel. So I stepped back and watched as Thunder Wave made its way towards Sawk and Skullcruncher began powering up with Work Up. ​

“That was a great job, buddy," Leo saided, complemented his Hydreigon's efforts. I noticed his mouth was moving a little and the Hydreigon was lookign straight at him, as though taking some information in. I was getting a suspicion that the pair could communicate with each other telepathically or that Leo could whisper just low enough for the opponent not to hear, but his Hydreigon to hear. Anyway, it was a good idea to maintain the element of surprise and would surely take so much practise.

After a little bit, Sawk decided he didn't like the silence and made to run at the Hydreigon, taking careful deliberate strides. His right fist stretched backwards, possibly preparing a Drain Punch, but then as he was about five metres or so away, I saw a spark in the air, followed by a faint crack. Just a moment later and the charging Sawk was bombarded with a shock wave of electricity. It wriggled all over his body but he could do nothing as the electricity overcame him. However, he still managed to bring the fist slamming into Hydreigon's neck, causing the Dragon type to hiss and dive backwards, craning its neck in agony. Its twin heads rose up defensively. Sawk gave an unvoluntary twitch as he retreated a little.

Hydreigon wasn't done just yet; its body had started glowing a faint red colour as he began to focus all of his eenergy together from all parts of his body, chanelling them towards the three snapping heads. Sawk could tell something was up and made to move forward but an unlucky shot of paralysis sent his spasming and he was unable to move any closer.

Hydreigon's main head opened up and I could see a glaring white light start to build up inside of its gaping mouth. The sheer intensity of the light caused me to have to turn away. Sawk saw this and leapt up into action once more. He bounced on the balls of his feet, waiting for Hydreigon to make his move. As Hydreigon charged, he let rip the first wave of the beam. Sawk gave an impressive tumble to the left, managing to avoid the attack but the second, slightly weaker wave smacked the Fighting type in the chest, making his balance falter for a second before he composed himself. But, Sawk looked angry now - the kind of angry that would make him hit much harder.

@Synthesis OOC: Used 5k Fragrance and Hyperball with some Flamethrower

Sawk was now angry at what we had done, but it was a battle, and he was going to have to get over it. I knew that usually when a Pokémon was angry, like Sawk was now, they usually didn’t have full focus. From the one martial arts class I took, you were always supposed to be in control of your emotions during a battle. If you didn’t have a clear head, you didn’t have a chance of winning. Or so the instructor said. It was partially true because Pokémon did need a clear head to perform their attacks at full power.

With Sawk now enraged, this would probably be a bit easier. What I was going to have to do now was lower his health a bit more. With his special attack as high as it already was, and with the boost from work up, AND the boost from the sun (since it was shining down pretty good), Flamethrower would be a powerful move to use right now. Sawk still had a good amount of energy left, so I was pretty sure a Flamethrower from Skullcruncher, that doesn’t get STAB, would knock it out. Unless I over predicted his health. If I did that, then I was screwed.

Right now, we sort of had the advantage. Skullcruncher wasn’t enraged like Sawk was so we had a good chance of predicting his moves and countering them with our own. I had half a mind to use Taunt to enrage him more, but that could also be dangerous. If I didn’t play it right, Skullcruncher could become knocked out. Sawk was a skilled fighter, and if he were to land a blow while mad like he was now, who knows what would happen. So Taunt wasn’t a good thing for me to do right now. Instead, I would try and calm it down. I had a small fragrance called “Calming Fragrance Plus’ that calmed down the opponent and made it a tad bit easier to catch.

“Skullcruncher, use Flamethrower. Just promise me you won’t overdo it.” I said to him telepathically.

“I won’t. I won’t even use full force.” He said, assuring me. “I’ll try and make sure it’s enough though.”

“Yeah, that would be perfect.” I said, “Then use the start of Flash Cannon, but just to blind him so I can throw my Hyperball, if not, he may break it.”

“Gotcha,” He nodded. Skullcruncher began forming three small flames, similar to how he used Dragon Pulse. He formed a small golf ball sized flame at his mouth and two at his head-like hands. After a few seconds, they morphed into a single ball of fire and launched at Sawk. I could feel the intense heat from the orange flames, they were crazy hot. I readied my Hyperball for the moment he flashed Sawk. All he would do was start the Flash Cannon, not use it so that Sawk would be temporarily blinded, giving me enough time to throw my Hyperball. I then released my fragrance from the small vile I had. All I had to do now was sit back and watch this unfold. When the time was right, I would then throw it and hopefully capture it without a problem. I couldn’t feel the capture, but I was hoping for it anyways. Luck was on my side the last time I came here, hopefully it would be here as well. If not, then at least I could try again.
