It was a beautiful day from what I could tell lying on the bed. Sun shining high up in the sky. No clouds to be seen across the horizon. What more could you asked for? I yawned, stretched a little, and got up. The desk of the Ranger's outlook, where my phone was lying was my destination. With a quick glance at the time, I realised that today was not off to a great start. It was already 9:03.

Shoving the files and scraps of paper into the satchel (not a manbag) was all that could occupy my mind as I scrambled to get down to the Gardens at the right time. I glanced down at my watch on my wrist. Shiiiiit. I was already three minutes late and it'd take another four or five to get there. It's well known that trainers can't be left unattended by themselves. They could damage the park or get themseves mauled by an Ursaring. Wouldn't be the first time.

The door slammed as I threw me jacket over me and started to run. The fields of grass soon began to change to a dirty beaten down path as I came up towards the large gate that marked the entrance. Surely enough, a man was standing there. I gave him a wave, and made contact.

"Yo," I called, panting a little. "Sorry for the delay. But at lest I got here.... right?"

I waited and, waited more for my Ranger. I have no idea who it was; however in the past I have never experienced a late ranger appearance. 9.00am was the time, and I was eager to go. I scratched my head with anticipation. The sky was clear with no clouds, typical of the gardens, which I have experienced many times.

In the distance a figure appeared. As the figure appeared, he was quite tall, and athletic-built. His sea blue-eyes matched the sky. He looked casual with tracksuit bottoms, kind of reminded me of my styles. He waved once to grab my attention.

“Yo,” he called, with a small pant. “Sorry for the delay. But at least I got here… right?” I was quite happy with this Ranger, I have heard the rumours too.

“No need to apologize,” I said, and smiled. “Let’s keep going, I presume your name is Jay?” I awaited to follow my new Ranger, and begin the adventure. Time was at the essence!

@Fossil Fusion; I took over your run from Syn!

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Ivy heard the mad scramble of a Ranger rushing out of the building, accompanied with grumbles from the other staff and an abrupt opening and shutting of the main door. There was no telling who it was. She just shook her head as she continued to scribble on her paperwork, having to sweep her long, red hair off the page she was writing on.

Her office was dark, lit by only a small desk lamp, due to the space being converted to its current state from a storage closet. The budget didn't cover adding in windows. Still, despite that, it was hot. She had the sleeves rolled up on her black turtleneck, and her long, red vest was hanging over the back of her rolling chair. Haji, her Espeon, was curled up on the couch, blissfully content. He was never really bothered by anything, least of all heat.

It made her wish she was outside. The temperature probably wasn't any better out there, considering there was some air conditioning in at least some of the rooms at the outpost, but she liked working in the field. Paperwork was one of her least favorite tasks. If she had known how much of it there would be, she may have reconsidered her career choice.

It wasn't too much longer after that that a secretary came knocking at her door. Anna, one of the younger, yet dependable, secretaries offered her a smile. Her whiskey-red braid hung over the shoulder of her tan uniform.

“Hey, Ivy,” she greeted. “I just got a message from Jay. He's got something going on that he completely forgot about, and he was wondering if you could take over the run he just started.”

The Ranger nodded her head toward the door. “Was that him that just ran out?”

Anna grinned and nodded. “He was running a bit late.”

It didn't take Ivy long to make a decision. “Give him a heads up that I'll do it. Just gimme a few minutes.”

Anna agreed and left, giving the Ranger the opportunity to gather supplies. She made sure she had some Pokedolls stuffed in her pockets and locked her phone onto its place on her belt so it didn't get lost in the wilderness. Haji got up and stretched, sitting up to watch her wander around the small office.

Before long, her phone dinged with the Trainer info she needed for the run. She smiled as she read the file. She knew this Trainer. Chris was apparently going to the Gardens this time.

Supplies gathered, she and Haji teleported to the entrance of the Garden outpost just in time to see Jay leaving. Ivy gave a wave and walked over to the waiting Trainer.

“Hey, stranger,” she greeted. “Long time no see.”

Hellos exchanged, Ivy and Haji led Chris onward into the Gardens. Ivy liked coming here. Everything was usually trimmed and arranged neatly, with overflowing greens and brilliant flowers. It was pretty peaceful, despite some of the powerful Pokemon that lived here.

A large hedge maze loomed before them. There were ways around it to get to the other zones, like the statue garden or the greenhouses, but Ivy preferred going through. The walls rose up higher than any of them were tall, in neat, compacted rows of green. It made the path a little claustrophobic, but the paths were wide enough—she'd seen several battles commence in the lanes.

After a few twists and turns, they found themselves in a wider portion of the maze. This part had a few enclaves in the side expanded for flowers of all sorts of colors. Ivy made a note to return here later when she had some downtime since she saw the weeds were starting to grow too tall.

Then, one of the weeds moved. The Ranger paused as the blades of grass started to wave back and forth. Suddenly, it popped upward, followed by a small blue Pokemon that was mostly a bulbous head.

“Oddish, Oddish,” it said, jumping up and down upon seeing them.

“Well, here's your first encounter,” she told the Trainer. “Want a shot at it?”

As my old Ranger rushed away, I was wondering who my replacement would be. Then, I glazed up across the grass and was greeted.

“Hey Strange,” she greeted. “Long time no see.” I could not believe my eyes, it was Ivy, and Haji too. The cute, cuddly Espeon who protected me on previous expeditions. I waved back and smiled.

“Hi Ivy, and Haji,” I said. “Thanks for taking over, let’s have some fun.” Icy then lured me towards a large maze of hedges. I glazed at the neatly trimmed greens and blooming flowers. I thought to myself, typical gardens. I remember being here a few times now. I am hoping to find my Kangaskhan to be!

“This is a funny maze,” I whispered to Ivy. She took me through the compacted rows of green. It was pretty claustrophobic. My Ranger took me round many bends, turns, and twists. Suddenly, I noticed the leaves started to move. A blue Pokemon jumped out with sharps leaves above its head.
    “Oddish, Oddish,” it said.

“Well, here’s your first encounter,” Ivy said. “Want a shot at it?” I looked closely, and thought.

“Go, Cryogonal!” I threw my Pokeball onto the ground, and Cryogonal popped out. I love my Cryogonal so much. It danced around me pleasantly, and awaited command. “Try a Icy Wind to slow down that Oddish.”

“Cry,” It shrieked, and nodded. It prepared its teeth rapidly, and clanked them together. The ice cold wind started to emerge...

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Chris recognized them right away, thanking them for taking over and then following through the maze. When he saw the Oddish, he only took a couple moments to think. Then, he took out a Pokeball and threw it down.

“Go, Cryogonal!” he shouted as there was a burst of bright light.

When it faded, a large ornate mirror-looking Pokemon was floating, colored in blues and whites. The Ice-type had beaded tails hanging from it, and there was a slight tingling sound, like chimes on a bell. Ivy remembered a recent trip to Oktori where a Fighting-type Gym Leader had battled a Cryogonal.

This one seemed eager to battle as it floated around its Trainer, hovering above the ground. Then, Chris gave directions. “Try an Icy Wind to slow down that Oddish,” he called.

With an eerie cry, the Cryogonal complied, comping its teeth together. Soon after, the wind picked up, and Ivy shivered a little despite it being a nice day. The air was chilly, and it made goosebumps stick up on her arms. Tiny flecks of snow and ice whipped up too, blowing through this section of the maze.

The Oddish, formerly jumping up and down at the sight of them, now cried out and hunkered down, trying to curl up into a ball to avoid a lot of the breeze. That didn't work very well, however, since it had left the cover of the flowers it came out of. The grass was neatly trimmed everywhere else.

Realizing that, the wild Pokemon took action. It hummed, and suddenly the grass started to glow a brighter green. Ivy stepped back, but she realized it was covering the entire area. The grass around Oddish expanded and grew a little bit, hiding it from the icy winds. As she stood there, Ivy realized that the grass was a little warm too. Then she realized that this attack was probably a Grassy Terrain move. As long as a Pokemon was on the ground, the grass would help heal it.

Then, spores of green energy came shooting out of the longer grass, honing in on Cryogonal. The small orbs hit, and Cryogonal made a displeased sound, shaking its body back and forth to try and dislodge the attack. It didn't work too well, however, and then the glowing green orbs let go and zoomed back to where the Oddish was hiding.

From the looks of it, that had been a Giga Drain. Oddish was attempting to get back the energy it lost using its attacks and the terrain. It stayed hunched down in the longer grasses, trying to get as much cover as possible. Ivy wasn't sure how well it would work, since Cryogonal was pretty strong, but the Grass-type was going to try.

Cryogonal wasn't hurt too much, thankfully. It was naturally good at deflecting special-type attacks like Giga Drain. Plus, its shiny and sleek body tended to offer some protection too. On the other side, the Ice-type wasn't too good at guarding with heavy hitting physical attacks. It was a good thing Oddish was small. She didn't think it had too many of those techniques in its arsenal.

I watched as Cryogonal's cold Icy Wind attack unleashed. It clomped its teeth together, and I watched as the wind picked up. It was a very cold breeze, considering it was an Ice-Type Pokemon. I noticed Ivy also shivered a little.

Oddish had the Icy Wind attack breeze towards her, and it jumped up and down. I heard it cry out and saw in hunker down as if it was a ball. Instead, its bright, green flower was flushed.

"Nice," I said to Cryogonal, and smiled. I glanced at the Grass Pokemon as it hummed and suddenly it started to glow green the grass. It looked like a new technique known as Grassy Terrain. Oddish seemed to be recovering a little. Suddenly, my Cryogonal was leeched with a weak Giga Drain.

"Hang in there," I encouraged my Pokemon. I watched again as Oddish seemed to be recovering, I had to act fast before it was too late! I pointed at Oddish, and Cryogonal levitated in a circle.

"Cryogonal, quickly," I shouted. "Aim an Ice Beam at the ground around Oddish to freeze the leaves for a little while!" Cryogonal nodded. "Then, strike it with Aurora Beam!"

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Chris watched the Oddish huddle in the longer grasses, trying to hide and heal itself. Cryogonal had still done a decent amount of damage to it, so the Trainer praised his Pokemon. Then, he realized he was going to have to act fast lest the Grass-type heal too much.

“Cryogonal, quickly,” he said, “aim an Ice Beam at the ground around Oddish to freeze the leaves for a little while! Then, strike it with Aurora Beam!”

Ivy smiled in approval. “Nice thinking,” she said. Since the grass was where Oddish was getting its nutrients from, it was good thinking to disable that.

The Ice-type spun in place as it charged up, the air around it dropping in temperature. The Ranger could see the mirror's breath cloud in front of it. Then, that fog started to thicken until it was a glob of ice. With carefully practiced aim, the Ice-type shot the frozen energy right into the grass.

It was good that he hadn't tried to attack the plant directly with Ice Beam. That was one of the strongest Ice-typed attacks, and if he knocked out the Oddish, he couldn't capture it. Using Aurora Beam instead was much safer.

The grass around Oddish quickly paled and frosted over, becoming crispy and sharp instead of warm and leathery. Abruptly, the gentle healing aura of the ground ceased. The wild Pokemon squeaked in alarm as Ivy saw it jerk from side to side. It must've gotten trapped slightly, since it was hunkering down in the blades.

That was what Cryogonal needed. This time, the energy that formed was a blur of different colors, sort of like the northern lights. The blast hit the plant with a flash of light that exploded in rainbow bursts. Suspiciously, Ivy's brow furrowed as the light seemed to sustain for longer than it should've.

Suddenly, the light condensed and rapidly expanded in an instant, shimmering with glittering energy as it fanned outward. Cryogonal called out as it flinched backward. The attack had only clipped it, but it was bright and distracting. Ivy thought it might be a Dazzling Gleam.

That distraction allowed the Oddish to act. It broke out of the frozen blades of grass that were trapping it and then it sucked in a big breath, rocking its whole body to do so. Then, it spit out gigantic green seeds. Three of them sailed toward Crygonal as it tried to shake off the effects of the last attack, leaving it with no time to move.

The sound was sharp as two of the seeds smashed into the icy plane of the Pokemon's face, sending the Ice-type spiraling as it lost its balance. Ivy hissed and made a face; that looked like it had hurt.

The Oddish, still moving with its adrenaline rush, seemed to be acting again. Despite its deep breaths, it wasn't giving up. It started to glow, the aura around it dim at first but then growing brighter. That wasn't good.

“I think it's trying to heal itself with Moonlight now,” Ivy told the Trainer. “Healing moves like that work just as well with the sun as they do the moon.” If Chris didn't hurry and allowed the wild Pokemon to recover some strength, the battle would take a lot longer.

I watched Cryogonal's cold, Aurora Beam. Ivy seemed to have a grin on her face, and I had no idea why. Perhaps I smelt funny... "Nice thinking," she said. Cryogonal spun around and charged up. The warm temperature turned cold, and shot through the sharp grass.

"Good job," I said. I had to be careful because Oddish was weak to Ice-Type moves and Ice Beam would be a bit of an overkill. "I want this capture," I quietly said. I noticed the grass around the little, blue-weed Pokemon and it had frosted over. Oddish was tapped by the Aurora Beam...

"Bright lights," I said to myself. Cryogonal was brightly flashed at by a mysterious light. It must have been Dazzling Gleam. A distraction.

Oddish rocked its body, and I saw small seeds sailed at my icy mirror. "Cry," it wailed as it was pelted twice. Oddish seemed to glow on the spot and was glowing brighter by the second.

"I think it's trying to heal itself with Moonlight now," Ivy said to me. "Healing moves like that work just as well with the sun as the do the moon." I had to hurry because Oddish would prolong the battle and overcome the battle eventually. I had to act FAST. Then, I had a light-bulb moment.

"Quickly Cryogonal," I shouted with pride. "Try to use your Mist and fluctuate it around Oddish! That way it might not heal as much, and then I would like you to bind it from moving!"

    ---

Chris was ready to act as fast as the situation demanded. “Quickly, Cryogonal,” he called. “Try to use your Mist and fluctuate it around Oddish! That way it might not heal as much. Then I would like you to bind it from moving!”

The Grass-type was still struggling in the weeds that had turned against her. The temperature was dropping slowly, hardening the grasses into prison bars. The energy surrounding her started to brighten, getting ready to absorb light and heal herself, so it was then that Cryogonal moved to act.

It spun in place for a second before stopping with glowing eyes. It took a deep breath and then blew outward. A thick, rolling fog poured out of its mouth and with a flick of its body, it was angled at the Oddish. With a whoosh of wind, the field became even harder to see. Ivy could barely make out the Grass-type through the mist, and that was mostly due to the light engulfing her.

The Oddish shrieked then, and Ivy shivered. The air temperature had dropped even more. That had to be the ice mirror's doing. It was pretty good at controlling temperature, much like an air conditioning unit. For a second, she had a mental image of a few of those cooling off the office and smiled.

Taking that power, the Cryogonal then focused on the area around the Oddish. She made another sound of protest as the grass froze even more solid. The light surrounding her then faded out. Had she healed? Ivy couldn't tell from where she was, but she was betting not. The milky sky had covered up the light from the sun, therefore preventing the plants natural healing ability.

The Oddish struggled even more, but Cryogonal was doing a good job of trying to keep her still. The grasses had been turned against her, and the cold was sapping away at her energy.

Then, another source of light pierced through the fog. It was more orange than white, however, and it burned away the edges of the fog near the Oddish. Ivy recognized the technique, since it was one Haji used often.

“I think she's trying to use a Sunny Day,” Ivy said. Because of the proximity, that would produce enough heat to melt the ice around her and undo a bit of the binding trap that Chris had set up.

Now that she could see a little better, though, she found that the Oddish had barely recovered any energy at all. She didn't look much better than before the mist covered the field, which was good news for the Trainer. He would just have to make a capture before she turned the tables on him.

The Mist from Cryogonal swamped the field and nobody could barely see anything. I think that would hopefully counter Moonlight! I bet Ivy could barely see anything through the mist either.

I heard a shrieking sound from the tiny weed Pokemon. The temperature was quite chilly, shame I did not bring my winter coat. Cryogonal held Oddish in place. Suddenly, a bright light started to occur through the Mist.

"I think she's trying to use a Sunny Day," Ivy said to me. I better capture before that happens and might make Cryogonal a pile of liquid!

"Cryogonal, before Oddish uses Sunny Day, use Bind again, then I will try for a capture." Cryogonal nodded, and glazed at Oddish. I readied my Park Ball for capture, and hoped to capture my first Garden's capture.

@Fossil Fusion; I just went ahead and brought up the next encounter.

    NBP#2

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

The Trainer decided to act fast before the Oddish could undo all the work they had put into the battle. “Cryogonal, before Oddish uses Sunny Day, use Bind again. Then I will try for a capture,” Chris said.

He pulled out a Park Ball and waited for the ice mirror to move. Using its delicate technique, it empowered the icy blades of grass to hold the plant Pokemon even tighter, calling it to cry out and the light near it to dim a little bit. It was getting distracted.

The Cryogonal did its best to hold the Oddish in place so its Trainer could throw the ball. Chris wasted no time once the Ice-type was in position, lobbing the ball. Ivy was worried for a second because the fog sort of obscured everything, but sure enough, the capture device made it to its target, sucking the wild Pokemon up inside.

A few seconds after, the fog faded away and the grass returned to normal, regaining its color and shrinking back down to regular size. Ivy wandered over to collect the ball, sticking in a zippered pocket so it wouldn't get lose.

“That was nice and easy,” she said. “Doesn't look like the area is damaged at all either.”

With a wave she told the group to follow as they kept going through the maze. She knew a couple more turns and twists they could take depending on where the destination was. The greenhouses weren't too far from here, and neither was the sculpture garden. Beyond that there were a couple fields and ponds too. They would probably have time enough to visit them all.

Suddenly, there was a pounding of paws on the ground and a brown and cream-colored blur whooshed past them as leaves and small twigs were swept up in the wind. When the dust cleared, a long, raccoon-like Pokemon was standing up on its hind legs and looking at them. Its tail was bushy and covered in brown stripes. The creature's ears were perked up and it sniffed toward them in interest.

“Hey, there's a Furret,” Ivy said while pointing. “Any interest in it?”

After all that had gone on with Oddish versus Cryogonal. The battle drew to an end. My Park Ball had consumed the weed creature. It sat still and was captured. I watched as Ivy walked over slowly and collected the ball. She zipped it up into her pocket, and said.

"That was nice and easy," she said. "Doesn't look like the area is damaged at all either."

I thought to myself.. "Perhaps, Ivy is hinting I was a bit vicious to the scenery." I followed Ivy through the maze. I saw greenhouses in the distance, they could be quite hot.

"Hey, there's a Furret," Ivy said while pointing. "Any interest in it?" This cute looking ferret appeared. It had a cuddly, bushy tail and covered in brown stripes.

"It is cute, but let's move on." I said. "I have my money ready for a Pokedoll if Furret does not let us pass."

I readied my money from my pocket just in case.

"Ivy, my memory fades." I said with a stutter. "How do I use my Kangaskhan Voice Disk? If I can, could I try it?"

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

The Trainer looked at the ferret Pokemon for a second but then shook his head. “It is cute, but let's move on.”

Chris indicated that he would like a Pokedoll if the Furret was insistent. Thankfully, that wasn't needed. The wild Pokemon's attention was drawn to something down the path. It rose up on its hind legs for a second as its ears pricked. It then sniffed along the ground until it caught a sent, following it until it was bounding down the path and out of sight.

Once it was gone, Chris said, “Ivy, my memory faces. How do I use my Kangaskhan Voice Disk? If I can, could I try it?”

The Ranger nodded and came over as he pulled out the electronic recording device. He put the correct disk in and hit the button, and the loud rumble of a Kangaskhan echoed through the maze. Ivy waited a few seconds, but a wild Pokemon didn't come crashing through the grasses.

“It should play automatically now,” Ivy told him. “It's set to call five rounds, and then it'll shut off. We should move around while it's playing though, so it affects a larger area.”

The Ranger figured that if they could get out of the maze soon, one of the Normal-types would probably hear the call and respond. Of course, that wasn't for certain, as wild Pokemon were moody and temperamental just like people were, but it was worth a shot.

Ivy knew they were coming to the end of the maze when the grass walls started to curve and become stylized. She had taken one of the shortcuts out of the winding path so that they weren't wandering around in it all day. Even if a Kangaskhan heard the call in there, it might not be able to reach them. This entrance had the hedges cut in a wave pattern that gradually got low enough that they could've stepped over them if they wanted.

Suddenly, there was a flutter of wings and a whoosh of air as something swooped down from above. Landing on one of the curved plants, a small black and white bird chirped at them.

“Oh, hey, there's a Starly,” Ivy said. “Any interest in that while we wait for the disk to work?”

As I readied my money for a Pokedoll. It would seem it was not needed. Furret chose a different path, which saved me some pennies.

I asked Ivy about the Kangaskhan voice disc. She nodded for a moment. I followed her movements and played the recording. A Kangaskhan cry echoed the area.

"It should play automatically now," Ivy said to me. "It's set to call five rounds, and then it'll shut off. We should move around while it's playing though, so it affects a larger area."

I looked at Ivy and then Starly. "No thanks," I said with confidence. "I shall ready my money again just in case we cannot pass."

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Chris wasn't interested in the Starly. Ivy couldn't blame him, as the Pokemon was pretty much everywhere. Before any of them could take a course of action, it chirped happily and took flight, heading up and over the hedges the way they had come.

They continued on across the packed dirt trail lined with well-trimmed grass. It was one of their jobs as Rangers to provide upkeep for all the areas. On slow days, they could all be found mowing grass, painting the docks, or reorganizing the sheds. Sometimes it was really tedious, but the areas looked nice as a result.

The group made their way through and ended up in the statue garden. At the entrance was a white fountain with a Manaphy on top, spewing water down into the base. There were a lot of other statues scattered throughout the place too. Most of them were of different legendary Pokemon that were carved and donated by sponsors. Some were trimmed out of thick hedges too, just like in the maze. Columns of stone and partial walls were also placed in a pattern, though it wasn't very obvious unless someone was looking down from above.

The place was oddly quiet. When Chris' voice disk player cried out, the Ranger almost jumped. It echoed off the walls and into the open air, lingering for a few seconds before fading away. At first, Ivy thought it hadn't worked. This place was pretty big after all. Then, there was a slight rumble along the ground.

Over the top of one of the walls ahead, Ivy saw a dark-tipped ear. It traveled along the wall for a moment until the wall curved upward so it disappeared.

Ivy motioned the Trainer over. “Hey, Chris, look,” she said as she pointed.

Around the wall came a lumbering form with thicker tan plates. In her belly pouch was a tiny purple baby looking about curiously. The large Pokemon came around the wall fully, but stopped when she saw them. The fountain was between the two groups, but the Kangaskhan was still tense. Maybe she was worried about her little one.

The wild Pokemon snorted and widened her stance. She didn't look like she would run. Instead, she looked ready to fight.

“Well, this is the one you were looking for right?” Ivy asked.

I was hoping to easily walk past the little, brown bird. Starly. It was a cute bird, but I bet it could become an angry bird. Therefore, taking down bricks and balloons. It reminded me of the games Angry Bird. Anyways, I was hoping I could simply walk past it. It was quite a common Pokemon, and was pretty much everywhere. Suddenly, before I could use a Pokedoll or pass my money to Ivy. The chirpy bird fluttered its wings, and soared away through the warm air. I noticed it dashed towards the green, bushy hedges. This was the way Ranger Ivy had taken me. I placed my money back into my pocket and awaited further instructions from my Ranger.

Ivy led me across and away from the hedges. My foot tread on packed dirt, which was trail lined with neatly, cut grass. It was a bright as an emerald, and smooth as my chin. The Rangers must be doing a good job, and keeping it nice and tidy. I suppose the Pokemon who live in The Gardens love it too! However, the Rangers must do all this upkeep work and it seems tiring. I followed Ivy some more, and she led me towards a statue garden. I noticed a white fountain, which was spraying cool looking water into the circular base around it. I watched it peacefully and the grey, Manaphy figure above it. I looked around the garden and I smiled with joy. It was a beautiful place, and quite relaxing too. As Ivy shown me around, I noticed many other statues within the Garden. They looked like replicas of Legendary Pokemon. However, my knowledge fades me of, which ones they were. I could ask my Ranger, however she seemed quite busy.

“This garden is amazing,” I said, with a smile. It was like a maze as well with columns of stones, and partial walls. I felt the air and could find myself relaxed. Similarly, the area was a bit too quiet, considering other areas in the Gardens I have been. I readied my voice disk player, and set the Kangaskhan disk away. It echoed loudly, and I noticed Ivy jumped up. I listened as the melody vibrated through my airs and the area around us. It lingered for a few moments, and then faded. I waited, waited, and a little more...

“Oh dear,” I said. “I don’t think it worked.” Ivy looked to agree. Suddenly, I felt vibrations on the ground. I saw Ivy looking over towards a rocky wall, and she noticed a dark-tipped ear. Ivy had better eyesight than me. I did not even notice anything until she reacted. I watched with her as it travelled across the wall like a whack-a –mole game.

“Hey, Chris, look,” She said to me as she pointed. She motioned me into the direction of the wall. Suddenly, around the wall came a brown layer creature with a small baby inside her pouch. The baby was a tiny purple like creature. I noticed it looking around intently and its mother, Kangaskhan looked like it was ready to protect its baby with all costs. I was quite worried, and thought. “It’s time to make this creature my friend, and fight alongside me.” I noticed Kangaskhan snorted as me, and kept her stance ready. This was going to be a good fight.

“Well, this is the one you were looking for right?” Ivy asked me. I nodded with a big grin on my face, and was ready to battle. I had to think of strategy because this mother would not step down and easily roll over against my Pokemon. I had to think... would Cryogonal or Solrock be better to fight this Kangaskhan? I looked up and down at the creature, and thought time to decide. I stretched to my back pocket and grabbed a Pokeball. I launched in through the statuette garden, and it landed in onto the ground. It shafted a bright, crimson light and a Pokemon emerged. It was my Solrock, and it levitated in front of us. The orange, meteorite Pokemon was covered in eight yellow, rock spines. They extended from side of its body, and similarly had stony bumps across its centre. The Psychic-Rock Type Pokemon had dual rocky mounds on its back. Its large yellow eyelids through to its red pupils.

“Alright, Solrock,” I cheered, and waved. “I best remain calm; I do not want to upset the Kangaskhan with too much noise. I readied a strategy in my head and watched Solrock. The Pokemon levitated slowly around in a circle and awaited commands. Me and the meteorite being both met within a big Pokemon auction back in Summer of 2011. I remember it being that time. I bid $37,500 on Solrock alongside its other half Lunatone. I was so happy, and proud I won them both. They are such solid Pokemon, and were a good team.

“Alright, Solrock, I want you to use Rock Polish!” I said calmly, and waved. I thought Solrock needed to catch some speed up because I knew the mother was too protective of its baby. Therefore, Solrock needed to act on rocks if it was to stand a chance. “Then, once you get your speed up, try and use Psychic! We hopefully need to stop her doing too much damage to us.” I said. I did not want to use Flamethrower or Earthquake because we were in such an enclosed area that the statues might be destroyed. I did not want all the hard work people put into this place, and only for me to destroy it. Solrock prepared to use its moves, and I hope the combination would be the right one. I looked over to Ivy and hoped she was ready for a great battle... or more enough a good show. Keeping it British...

    BP#4

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

The Kangaskhan watched them all warily, but she still didn't seem like she would bolt. That would be handy, seeing as how Chris wanted to capture her. Ivy had recently heard that Kangaskhan was a key player in a lot of competitive battling teams on the mainland ever since the introduction of mega evolution. That meant this type of Pokemon was probably already a decent fighter, even in the wild.

Chris thought for a moment and then called out a Pokemon. Throwing a ball down, the field was engulfed in a bright light before it faded away to reveal a rocky sun-like creature. It was orange and brown with jagged spines revolving around a sphere—a Solrock. The Ranger didn't know if she had ever seen one of them in the Park before.

The Pokemon gave an eerie cry as it greeted its Trainer, floating in midair to show off its psychic prowess. Chris waved back, laying out his plan.

The idea was to be calm, which probably wouldn't be a problem. The Solrock was basically expressionless, and because of its bulk, it wasn't going to be making a lot of sudden movements.

Chris did want to fix that slow part, however. He commanded a Rock Polish first, which wouldn't make it terribly jerky, but it would probably make movement into a glide. Seeing how the Pokemon had to expend energy levitating, anything that decreased wind resistance would help. Then, Chris told his Pokemon to use Psychic. That would allow Solrock to stay out of the Kangaskhan's range.

The mother Pokemon looked on curiously, but she didn't make any motions to act just yet. She was probably confused at seeing the Solrock since they weren't normally in this area. They weren't very common in the Park, period. She was probably also thinking of her baby. She couldn't just rush in and attack when she didn't know what her opponent would do.

The Solrock then hummed with energy, and Ivy watched as some of the jagged and rough points on its rock body started to smooth out. The sun reflected off the now-flat spaces, and in turn, the Rock-type was able to float around a little easier.

Then, the entire sun-shaped Pokemon became cloaked in an eerie blue light. A few seconds later, that same glow appeared around the Kangaskhan. She let out a cry of surprise and tried to back up, flailing her arms. It didn't dislodge the psychic energy, however, and a moment later she let out another cry as the mental attack drained her strength.

When the glow had faded, the wild Pokemon looked a little ticked off. She started to stomp around and lashed out with her arms at no particlar target. Ivy could tell what she was doing, though.

“Uh oh, I think she's using Work Up, letting her natural anger at the attack boost her energy. She'll hit harder now, so be careful,” the Ranger warned.

However, the Kangaskhan still didn't rush in. Instead, she found a broken piece of wall on the floor and hefted it up with her strength. Ivy paled a little bit and backed up with Haji right beside her. She motioned for the Trainer to move back a little bit too. If worse came to worse, the Espeon could protect them with a barrier too, but hopefully it didn't come to that.

Then, the wild Pokemon grunted with effort and threw the slab of rock at the Solrock. It was already trying to move out of the way, and thanks to its increased speed, it almost managed it. However, a couple of its spines were still in range, and as the rock came down, the Solrock let out an almost-delayed cry.

At the impact, it sent the rock spinning around in a circle. Could rocks get dizzy?

“Eventually she'll get angry enough to close the distance between them. How good is Solrock at close-range?” Ivy asked.

I awaited Solrock's movements to my commands. My rocky sunlight creature was beautiful to watch. A little stone-like but beautiful.

I watched as Kangaskhan looked at the rocky sun strangely. As if it was a rare sight in the gardens for it. My Psychic idea was to keep out of range of the mother. She looked powerful, and I knew she could pack quite a punch. However, she was watching patiently on what was going on.

Solrock's energy caused jagged rocks to smooth out of its body. Solrock floated around much more quickly than usual.Suddenly, a blue lhght cloaked the rock creature and it was then around Kangaskhan. I heard the mother let out a cry of surprise. Kangaskhan was flailing her arms around.

"Careful," I thought to myself. The Psychic attacked drained her and I heard more cries.

"She looks uneasy," I said to Solrock. Kangaskhan stomped the ground and was crashing about. I listened to Ivy advising me of "Work Up” I gasped. "She'll hit harder now, so be careful" I was warned.

A broken piece of wall was heaved up with her power. I saw out of the corner of my eye, Ivy waving my backwards just in case I would get hurt.Solrock was then bashed by this rock on its yellow, rocky spines. I was quite concerned that my Solrock was in pain.

"Eventually, she'll get angry enough to close the distance between them. How good is Solrock at close-range?" Ivy asked.
I thought to myself about this situation. Perhaps close range isn't the best battle plan for Solrock because it struggles to hit harder than other power hitters such as Metagross or Salamence. Hmm.... The Pokemon was levitating around with a little scratch. My brain kind of hurt because the power of Kangaskhan was overwhelming. My skin crawled with excitement as well. Solrock and I, needed a plan to try and hinder Kangaskhan’s movements a little. She may be strong, but it might be worth trying to slow her down some more. Work Up makes her power stronger; perhaps the less momentum in the stride would make her moves less powerful.

“Fire Spin…” I gasped to myself. However, my surroundings had sacred statues of the gardens, and I did not want to cause too much damaged. Similarly, the flames would make the grass in places catch fire. A good move if I was not in this area of course… Instead, I should increase Solrock’s defences. It has Harden and Cosmic Power. Cosmic Power has a strange powerful light to increase physical defensiveness and special defensiveness stats. Kangaskhan is mainly a physical hitter, which might be worth it just in case.

“Solrock, I would like you to use Cosmic Power,” I shouted. Then, I need to think of another attack to slow Kangaskhan down, and defend from too much damage to my Pokemon. Perhaps a Flamethrower could attack directly at the mother to bounce her away a little. That could work. Solrock’s Special Stats are not up to scratch as certain special Psychic Pokemon like Alakazam, Starmie or Exeggutor. Some of my trusty comrades in battle. My team of Psychic friends who have defended me in battles in Mossdeep Gym in the past… All of them trying their hardest. I never used Solrock as much, I feel its potential is more highlighted in the National park, hence why my rocky creature is here.

“So Solrock,” I shouted to my comrade. “Firstly strengthen your defences with Cosmic Power! Then, I would like you to stream a Flamethrower directly at the Kangaskhan to slow her down. It might work, it is always worth a try!” I smiled and cheered. Solrock levitated quickly around me and seemed to be happy I was battling with it.

“Let’s get to work Solrock, we can do this if we work together!”

@Fossil Fusion; Good luck saving up for that house!

    BP#5

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

The Kangaskhan continued to be angry on her side of the field, scraping her feet against the ground like a Tauros in aggressive motions. Ivy could faintly hear a snorting, and dust flew up as the air stream hit the ground. She understood anger at protecting your own, but this was a little excessive. When angry, it was hard to fight clearly. The Ranger had learned that much from watching her Gallade.

However, even if she wouldn't be at her best, the Kangaskhan could still do a lot of damage to Chris' Pokemon. That's why he needed a plan. Thankfully, he had one.

“Firstly strengthen your defenses with Cosmic Power! Then, I would like you to stream a Flamethrower directly at the Kangaskhan to slow her down,” he told the sun-shaped Pokemon. That would help bolster its defenses while they waited for the wild Pokemon to make a move. If Ivy had to judge based on her impatient movements, that was probably going to be soon.

The Normal-type was not quite in range for Flamethrower yet, but the Ranger had a feeling that was going to change—it wasn't just the pawing that reminded Ivy of a Tauros. There may be a charge.

As soon as she thought it, that's what happened. The Kangaskhan let out a trumpeting cry and charged forward with her head slightly down. The earth shook with each of her steps, and Ivy wasted no time in backing up. The lumbering Pokemon was headed toward the Solrock, but she doubted momentum would just let her stop after she hit.

The Solrock stayed calm as rocks were wont to do. Only the slightest rotation on its floating axis betrayed that it was going to act. Kangaskhan cared little for that.

When she was close enough the Rock-type shook slightly and let out a stream of flames that billowed up into the air as they shot outward. With a cry, the Kangaskhan realized too late that she was going to barrel into it, so in a last ditch effort, she threw herself to the side. That didn't help her escape all damage, however. Her entire side was singed.

The wild Pokemon fell to the ground with a rumble, kicking up dirt and grass in all directions. Shaking herself off, she let out a bellow of rage and slammed the ground with her hands. In response, the earth moved.

A wave of dirt flexed up and rolled toward the Solrock like water, surging up as soon as it was in range of the sun-shaped Pokemon. Normally, ground moves couldn't affect fliers or levitators, since they could just float above the attack, but Solrock wasn't quite expecting such a quick response. That and the ground literally buckled upward, unlike a lot of other earth attacks.

The impact sent the Solrock spinning, but it stayed floating. The exchange had been worse for Kangaskhan, who was now trying to get up. All of the adrenaline spent in her charge was now depleted, and the rush of energy left her panting and a little slow. Now was the time to strike if Chris wanted to get in a good hit.
