Outside, it was bright and sunny. It was a beautiful day for a nice, quiet stroll through the park. Too bad I can't leave my office, I thought to myself. I had to keep an eye out on things. The only way I could possibly leave is if a trainer came through trying to go into the Park. If that happened, I could lock up and take the trainer through. I prayed that some trainer would come and rescue me from this boring office prison.

A little while later, I was asleep with my head on my desk. I was asleep for a good couple of minutes when I heard the creaking of the Front Gate. Thinking it to be a trainer, I rushed outside. Just as I was hoping, a trainer had just entered the gate. I rushed from my desk and ran outside.

“Hi, I’m Dee, and I’ll be your ranger today!” I said, shaking the trainer’s hand rapidly. “So, where are we headed off t---,” I stopped when I realized that I hadn’t prepared for the trip.

“Sorry,” I said with my hand behind my head. “I’ll be right back. Wait here.”

I ran back into the Main Office embarrassed. I could only imagine what the trainer thought of me now. I stopped beating myself and gathered the emergency supplies that I would need, as well as my essentials (Ranger Browser, Gear, things of that sort). I walked back out with my bag strapped over my shoulder.

“Hi,” I said as I held out my hand. “Everyone around here calls me Dee. I’ll be your Ranger today.”

It was a gorgeous day. The sun was cheerful and warm while the breeze was playfully rustling the branches of the trees. The heat from last week had cleared up. There had been some incident at Mt. Deckbi that had caused the entire area to radiant intense heat. Ayame was completely thrilled when the air had cooled down. She had spent the last week riding around with Cobalt to enjoy the wonderful weather.

Today though was a special day. Today was the day she was going to finally step foot inside of the National Park. Ayame had spent the morning packing her bags and making sure she had everything she would need. When everything was packed, Ayame plucked a pokéball from her belt and tossed it into the air. The ball erupted in a bright light to release a large, cream colored unicorn known as a Rapidash.

“Come on, Cobalt,” Ayame cried. With a leap, she was straddling the unicorn’s back. A slight nudge from her leg sent the horse galloping across the countryside toward the National Park. The trip was breathtaking as the earth flew by faster than Ayame could comprehend, but it ended quickly as Cobalt drew up to a steady trot. They were already at the front gates.

Ayame slide off of her stead. The front gates had a latch that she flipped open and walked through. She held the gate open for Cobalt to follow her. She had just let the gate slide to a shut when the whooshing sound of a door being thrown open reached her ears.

Her hand was suddenly entrapped in another’s, rapidly being shaken up and down. Ayame looked at the excited trainers face as he introduced himself.

“Hi, I’m Dee, and I’ll be your ranger today. So where are we headed off t---,” he stopped suddenly, apologized, and rushed back inside the building.

Cobalt and Ayame turned at stared at each other. Giggles erupted from Ayame as she thought of what just happened. Cobalt looked at her confused.

“You know, he’s kind of cute,” she laughed.

Cobalt rolled his eyes and gave a snort. Ayame was about to comment back, but the door once again opened and Dee appeared once again.

“Hi,” he said, holding out his hand again. “Everyone around here calls me Dee. I’ll be your Ranger today.”

Taking his hand, Ayame shook it cautiously, hoping he did not shake like before.

“Hello. I’m Ayame Kjio, but you can call me Ayame or Aya, and this great beast here is Cobalt,” she smiled, motioning toward her partner. Cobalt stepped forward, reaching his muzzle toward Dee, and nibbled on his hair. Ayame turned bright red and smacked Cobalt on the side to get him to stop.

“Don’t do that!” she cried, not sure if she wanted to hide her face from embarrassment or laugh at the silly actions of her horse.

Cobalt stepped back and snorted. Flames shot out of his nostrils as he tried to get the hairs off of his nose. Ayame could not take it anymore and began to laugh.

“I’m…so sorry!” she apologized between breaths, “I did not mean for him to be so rude.”

“Hello. I’m Ayame Kijo, but you can call me Ayame or Aya, and this great beast here is Cobalt,” the trainer replied.

“Nice to meet you Aya,” I said in reply with just the right amount of enthusiasm. “Sorry, I’m not usually this unorganized, but I’ve been alone on sentry duty at the Park, so getting out of the office sounded great.”

I was about to continue when I felt something in my hair. I stepped back and realized that the trainer’s Pokémon had started to nibble on my hair. The Pokémon’s trainer slapped the Pokémon quickly.

“Don’t do that!” she yelled at the fire-type Pokémon as she broke out in laughter.

A small smile came across my face, mostly due to embarrassment.

“Well,” I said with a quick clap of my hands. “Let’s get going.”

Then, I turned back around towards Ayame and her Rapidash.

“So, are you to be riding your Pokémon, or are you going to walk?”

[[OOC: Sorry, it took entirely too long for me to post. I mainly couldn't really think of much to write, which is also why my post is shorter than usual. Sorry about that. Also, Pokemon encounter next post! I'm sure you'll like your first opponent. :)]]

“So, are you going to ride you Pokémon, or are you going to walk?” Dee asked.

Ayame brought her index finger up to her lip as she pondered this thought.

“I’ll walk. It would be rude for me to ride Cobalt if you’re stuck walking beside us. Besides, I rode him here so I could use a little stretch for my legs. But you may ride him if you want,” she replied.

As she waited on Dee to decide if he wanted to ride Cobalt, Ayame pulled out her pack and began to riffle through it. A jacket was aside, quickly followed by a couple of waters, Park balls, a couple of Super Potions, and a rope. Finally, Ayame emerged from the pack with an ‘ah-ha!’ and a bag of chocolate chip cookies. Quickly shoving all the other items back into her pack, Ayame packed back up.

“Want a cookie?” she asked, opening the Ziploc baggie. She grabbed one of the home baked pastries and popped it into her mouth. Munching on the chocolaty goodness, she held out the bag for Dee to take one.

“I’ll walk. It would be rude for me to ride Cobalt if you’re stuck walking beside us. Besides, I rode him here so I could use a little stretch for my legs. But you may ride him if you want,” Ayame replied.

    “No thanks,” I said.

I wasn’t even sure if the Rapidash would even let me ride him. Rapidash could control their flames so that they burned those who they didn’t want to ride. Those who they didn’t mind, however, were not burned by their flames. Besides, I was used to walking. The only time I really flew is when I had to go to one of the mountain islands, or to the Power Plant.

Ayame started to dig in her bag for something. She took out some of the supplies that she’d bought for the Park. They, after finding whatever it was that she was looking for, she put the items back into her bag. I noticed that she was holding a bag of cookies in her hand. After opening the bag, she offered me some, to which I politely refused. For some reason, I’ve always felt strange eating around others.

We continued to walk until we had finally made it to the beautiful flower garden that held many grass-type Pokémon. It was a peaceful part of the Park. It always seemed either sunny or raining. There was never any other kind of weather like Snow. I assumed it was the Pokémon who would use Sunny Day whenever it got too cold for them and Rain Dance whenever it was too hot.

We came upon a particularly large sunflower with two leaves about the same size. I was about to point it out when the lower leaf started to move away from the flower. It was a peculiar sight that took me a while to make sense of. It wasn’t until the “leaf” jumped up that I realized that it was actually the leaf-like headpiece belonging to Chikorita.

“Well isn’t that lucky,” I said to Ayame as I pointed out the rare Pokémon in front of us. “Our first encounter is a Chikorita. Do you want to capture it?”

When Dee politely turned down the offer of food, Ayame felt slightly guilty. Here she had just started munching away without a thought, but she had not realized it was probably slightly rude to just start eating right after you met someone—especially when they are doing you a favor like leading you around the National Park. Yet, Ayame always got the munchies right before a big event, so she always brought a bit of food to settle her stomach. It was a habit Ayame was far from breaking, even with the new guilt she felt.

As Ayame pondered about her strange habits, Dee started walking toward the Botanic Gardens. Cobalt, who noticed the spaced out girl was still just standing around, walked up behind his trainer and poked her with his horn. Ayame jumped a mile. When Cobalt nickered, she realized just how much she had lost track of the world and quickly ran to catch up to Dee once again. Cobalt trotted up with her, flicking his flamed tail back and forth with joy.

Sweet scents filled the air as they entered the park. Ayame closed her eyes and inhaled deeply. A smile came to her lips as she caught the scent of lavender. Dee paused in his steps causing Ayame to open her eyes once again. Dee was staring at a rather large sunflower plant. The plant was beautiful. It was then Dee motioned to a leaf under the plant.

“Well isn’t that lucky,” he said, following the now moving leaf with his finger, “Our first encounter is a Chikorita. Do you want to capture it?”

Looking at the pokémon that was moving before them, Ayame nodded. Catching a grass pokémon was the very reason she had come to the park. It was extremely lucky that one of her favorite grass-types appeared as the first encounter. As the Chikorita wandered about, Ayame motioned to Cobalt.

The great flaming horse surged into the gardens and directly into the Chikorita’s path. The Chikorita cried out at the sudden appearance. The two creatures stared at each other for a moment.

“Chikorita, prepare for battle,” Ayame shouted, “Because I plan to capture you. Cobalt, use Ember! But don’t hit anything other than Chikorita!”

Cobalt reared his head back and released a short blast of flames from his mouth. They were aimed right at the grass pokémon!

    vs. Chikorita BP1

Ayame looked over in the direction that I had pointed. Her eyes lit up at the sight of the Chikorita, who strutted towards us with a show-offy composure. She must have like the Chikorita. At any rate, she accepted the chance to battle the Grass-type Pokemon.

“Chikorita, prepare for battle,” Ayame shouted, “Because I plan to capture you. Cobalt, use Ember! But don’t hit anything other than Chikorita!”

Rapidash drew his head backwards, and then lunged it forward. A small flurry of flames blasted from her mouth, headed in the direction of the wild Chikorita. Chikorita, not expecting the incoming fire, looked up to see the fire directly in front of her. Needless to say, she was unable to dodge the attack.

Chikorita was knocked back by the Ember attack. She sprung back to her feet and glanced at her now charred skin. The sight of her skin become burned made the Chikorita angry. As she growled, her body became faint. Then, she split into 5 copies of herself. Only one of the copies was the real her.

Cobalt gave a snort of satisfaction as he viewed the slightly charred Chikorita. Already, the horse was ready to attack again-his nostrils glowing like coals. He was absolutely flowing with energy which caused his flaming tail and mane to flicker. The sunny weather was fueling the horse tremendously. The sun beating down warmed his creamy coat and the wind rustled the flames of his mane. Yet Cobalt was not so carried away to not notice the pissed Chikorita growl.

Dark eyes watched as the leaf pokémon blurred out of focus only to reappear a moment later with four others. Cobalt’s ears perked up as the attack held his attention. Chikorita was not as fast as he was so how had she done that attack? Well, he would just show Little-Miss-Thing how much faster he was truly.

With a high pitched whinny, Cobalt reared into the air and surged forward. Without even waiting on Ayame, he launched right into an Agility attack. He aimed at the pack of Chikoritas and galloped right between them all. Soaring back around the garden, he went to tear back through them again.

“Cobalt! Use Ember again!” Ayame shouted, slightly annoyed that her pokémon began without her.

Cobalt flicked his ears in Ayame’s direction, but continued on with his charge, racing through the cluster of Chikoritas once again. He had yet to show them the real magnitude between the speeds.

Ayame glared at her pokémon. While Cobalt was rather stubborn in nature, she had forgotten just how much so while in battle. She thought she had trained him out of this stage, but it seems the creature was too pint up with energy from the glorious weather to really care right now. As the frustration in Ayame built, she smacked herself on the cheeks. The negative feelings cleared. Ayame had realized the pint up anger she was creating and quickly changed her thoughts. She hated feeling negative and besides, it did not allow for clear thinking.

“Cobalt, use Quick Attack to find the real one!” Ayame commanded, using the horse’s stubborn nature to prove himself to her advantage.

This time Cobalt listened, using the command to utilize his speed into faster burst of attacks. Sweeping toward the group again, Cobalt’s speed tripled as he charged into the nearest Chikorita. The creature let out a cry and faded into nothing. Hooves dug into the soil as Cobalt spun back around and unleashed another Quick Attack. In what looked to be only a couple of seconds and one more Quick Attack, the Chikoritas had been narrowed down to two, and Cobalt had launch one more round of Quick Attacks.

(OOC: I am hoping this was alright. If not, I can change it)

    vs. Chikorita BP2

As Chikorita’s copies glared at Ayame, Rapidash and me, I also wondered how Chikorita knew that move. There was a rumor that a Chikorita in a far-off region had learned how to use Double Team, but I never thought we’d see one here, at least, not right now. I could only imagine the kind of surprise that was going through everyone else’s minds.

Cobalt must have been affected the most. Not wanting to be outdone by a lowly, weak Chikorita, the Pokémon burst out into a collision course with the Chikorita. He ran among them at top speed in an attempt to show them who was really the fastest in the Park. The horse Pokémon moved among the grass-types at a speed that rivaled even the fastest cars. I could only determine Rapidash’s desire to prove himself to his trainer because of the way he ignored Ayame’s commands to repeat the last attack, must to the trainer’s dismay.

I could sense Ayame getting frustrated because of the way her fists shook. However, after calming down a bit and collecting her thoughts, Ayame looked back towards the battle and issued Rapidash another command.

“Cobalt, use Quick Attack to find the real one!”

This time, however, Rapidash listened. In an instant, Rapidash was tearing through the Chikorita copies one by one. He left a trail of silver behind him as he galloped. It was a spectacular sight. With only seconds in between, Rapidash would tear through one Chikorita, causing it to dissolve into thin air, then through another, who would also dissolve. Rapidash continued only there were only two more copies left.

In an attempt to prevent Rapidash from colliding with it, Chikorita started to strut and prance. Large pink hearts started to come from its body as it did so. A couple of the hearts collided with Rapidash and burst upon contact. Rapidash’s body turned a faint pink and then back to its normal colors. However, the Pokémon still managed to land a hit on Chikorita, knocking the Pokémon into a nearby flower patch.

It wasn't until Rapidash started sniffing in the grass that I realized what had just happened. In an effort to save itself, Chikorita had used Attract. Attract caused Pokemon that were opposite the gender of the user to fall in love. If the attack was successful, the affected Pokemon would sometimes refuse to attack. Needless to say, the feeling wasn't mutual. The user was free to do whatever he or she wanted.

There was hope, however. We didn't really know what gender Chikorita was. It was possible that Chikorita was a male, in which case the attack would fail. If the attack was female, then the attack would be successful. I guessed we'd when the attack either succeeded or failed.

    [[Gender please?]]

Ayame watched as the pink hearts collided with her pokémon and briefly turned him pink. A groan escaped her lips. As she watched the Chikorita go soaring from Cobalt’s attack, she had a feeling in the pit of her stomach about what was going to happen next. Ayame glanced at Dee and saw that he had realized what had happened as well. The scene was then silent as Cobalt smelled the grass around him.

It was the Chikorita who broke the silence. With a muffled ‘Chika,’ it had emerged from the flowers and faced its opponent. Cobalt looked up at the noise, and the two pokémon’s eyes met. Cobalt’s black eyes transformed into hearts. The horse pokémon snorted and trotted over to the Chikorita. He stuck his nose down to nuzzle her leaf.

“Cobalt, stop flirting and use Flame Wheel,” Ayame commanded, hoping her pokémon would listen.

But instead of listening to his trainer, Cobalt just nuzzled the very annoyed Chikorita some more. Ayame glared and yanked off her bag. She dug around for a few seconds and then pulled something out. Throwing the bag back onto her back, she turned her attention back to her partner.

“Cobalt…look at what I have,” she called, holding out her hand. Resting in the palm was a bright red and white peppermint. Cobalt froze and turned his attention onto the food. Slowly he inched forward.

“Now Cobalt, if you do not do as I say, you will never get another peppermint again. Got it?”

    Cobalt pinned back his ears.

“I want you to use Flame Wheel on that Chikorita. It is just to show her how warm your flame is, not to KO her. She will be fine, ok? Now, Cobalt, use Flame Wheel!” Ayame commended, hoping this would work.

Cobalt stared back and forth between his much loved treat (and his trainer as well) and his new found love. He now had a choice to make, and Ayame hoped he made the right one.

~OOC: Sorry this took so long. I was really busy over Thanksgiving.

    vs. Chikorita BP3

“Cobalt, stop flirting and use Flame Wheel,” Ayame told her Pokémon who’d been horribly struck by Attract.

Cobalt, however, did not listen. Instead, he continued to nuzzle up to Chikorita, who by now was starting to get very annoyed. Chikorita’s face showed the anger that was most likely feeling. She looked as if she would burst any minute. Ayame started to dig through her bag.

“Cobalt…look at what I have,” Ayame said as she stretched out her hand.

In her hand was a lone peppermint. She continued to speak to the flaming horse as she attempted to coax him into attacking Chikorita. Both of us knew that in Rapidash’s state, there was only a fifty percent chance that he would attack. Ayame had to do whatever she could to increase Rapidash’s chances of attacking. As the Pokémon approached her, she started to speak again.

“Now Cobalt, if you do not do as I say, you will never get another peppermint again. Got it?” She said, sealing the deal. This last statement seemed to grab Rapidash’s attention, as his ears perked up upon hearing it. Apparently, Cobalt really liked peppermints. “I want you to use Flame Wheel on that Chikorita. It is just to show her how warm your flame is, not to KO her. She will be fine, ok? Now, Cobalt, use Flame Wheel!”

Rapidash nodded and turned back around to face Chikorita. Maybe he’s going to attack, I thought to myself. I didn’t want to say it out loud because I didn’t want to jinx anything. Rapidash walked up a bit, his body covered in flames. However, as soon as he locked eyes with the grass type Pokémon, his eyes once again changed into hearts and he became surrounded by a pink glow.

I palmed my face as I saw the horse Pokémon stagger towards Chikorita. I could see a smirk on Chikorita’s face as she sort of grinned. The Pokémon looked evil that way. I shook it off and set my eyes back on Rapidash, who was standing next to Chikorita with his tongue hanging out. I could sense in his eyes, however, that he was wondering why he was doing what he was doing.

Chikorita whipped her head, causing the leaf on her head to twirl a bit. Then, a bunch of seeds shot out towards Rapidash. Upon contact, the seeds burst and released vines that covered Rapidash’s entire body. Rapidash briefly glowed green as energy transferred from his body to Chikorita’s. She’d just used Leech Seed, and unless Ayame could think of something, all of Rapidash’s health would be sapped.

Chikorita’s Attract was more potentiate then Ayame had been willing to give her credit for. As soon as Cobalt’s dark eyes rested onto the grass pokémon’s, he was lost once again. While he was lost in love, Chikorita made her move. With the swish of her leaf, she launched a bunch of seeds onto Cobalt. Upon contact, the seeds grew into long vines that tangled themselves around Cobalt’s body.

Ayame knew that she know had to rely almost completely on luck. While she did not have to worry too much do to Chikorita being a grass pokémon, attacks would still steal Cobalt’s energy. She needed to think of a way to increase her chances of Cobalt attacking, but any of the ideas she came up with were garbage.

“Chika!” cried the grass pokémon smugly. It looked past Cobalt and directly at Ayame. It pranced threw the horse pokémon’s legs to show off just how much control she had over him.

An idea popped into Ayame’s head as she watched the two pokémon. She smirked and stuck out her tongue at Chikorita.

“Cobalt! I know it is hard to attack someone you love, but if you can weaken Chikorita enough with a Flame Wheel for me to capture her then she will be able to travel with us on our journey!” Ayame called. “So please, try to fight over your attraction and let us earn a new partner!”

    vs. Chikorita BP4

With Leech Seed in effect, Chikorita was feeling pretty confident. I had the worst time ever trying to keep myself from falling over in laughter when Chikorita looked smugly at Ayame. What really surprised me was that Ayame licked her tongue out at Chikorita. A drop of sweat formed over Chikorita’s forehead as she over at the trainer, disgusted. She was pretty mad. But then again, aren’t all Chikorita always angry about something?

“Cobalt! I know it is hard to attack someone you love, but if you can weaken Chikorita enough with a Flame Wheel for me to capture her then she will be able to travel with us on our journey!” Ayame pleaded with her Pokémon. ““So please, try to fight over your attraction and let us earn a new partner!”

Ayame’s words must have hit the spot. Rapidash’s flames went into overdrive as the Pokémon created a wheel of flame that encircled his body. He rushed towards Chikorita, the flames around his body spinning like the wheels on a bicycle. Chikorita looked up at the flaming Pokémon as he charged towards her.

The next thing I knew, Chikorita was flying a few feet away from Rapidash, her body smoldered. Rapidash winced a bit as a bit of green energy emanated from his body and traveled to Chikorita, which she absorbed.

Chikorita, herself, didn't get up, however. Upon closer inspection, I could see that she had small embers of fire all over her body. She must have been burned. The burns were preventing her from moving much. I almost felt sorry for her.

“Nice job,” I commended, looking back at the charred Chikorita. “That most certainly did the trick.”

It was smart to use Rapidash’s temporary infatuation against Chikorita. If I only I could do that whenever I was in a Pokémon battle. Things never seemed to work out that way for me.

[OOC: Awesome post, first of all.
Also, it would have been really great it you'd given me a description for how Rapidash uses Flame Wheel. It was horrible trying to picture a Rapidash spinning around in middle air. I managed to think of something, but it was hard than it looks. :p]

Heat blasted toward them as Cobalt surrounded his body with the flames. The fire swirled around his body as the Rapidash surged forward to tackle Chikorita, who was flung to the ground from the force of the attack.

“Nice job,” Dee said, “That most certainly did the trick.”

“I was hoping it would. It was my last idea,” she smiled. “Now, it is time for the final bit.”

Grabbing a Park ball from her belt, Ayame pushed the button on the front to enlarge it. Bringing the Park ball to her lips, she kissed the shiny surface before tossing into the air. The ball collided with the grass pokémon. Chikorita was sucked into the contraption and the ball began to wiggle on the grass.

As soon as the Chikorita was gone from his sight, Cobalt shook his head and trotted over to Ayame. He neighed and burrowed his nose into her hair to nibble on the silvery strands.

    “Cobalt!” she laughed.

Shoving her pokémon out of her hair, she glanced over at the wiggling Park ball to see if Chikorita had been captured.

OOC: Sorry this is on the shorter side and that it took me this long to even post. T.T Wah!

    vs. Chikorita BP5

“Now for the last bit,” Ayame said as she pulled an empty Pokeball from her belt. After pressing the button to enlarge it and kissing the shiny metallic Pokeball, she tossed it at the burnt Chikorita.

The Pokeball hit the Kanto starter and emitted a bright light that engulfed Chikorita, sucking her in. It began to twitch from side to side as Chikorita attempted to escape. The catch device in the middle of the Pokeball pulsed faintly from red to white, red to white. Then, after a few seconds of twitching the Pokeball stood still in its spot in the grass.

I walked over and picked up the shiny Pokeball, then gave it to Ayame.

“Congrats, you caught a Chikorita!” I said with a bit of enthusiasm.

A big heart floated away from Rapidash and burst, signaling that Attract’s effects had worn off. For a basic Grass-type Pokemon, Chikorita put up a great fight. I kind of wished it was my own.
