“You ready for your first day out on the job?” I asked Fritt, my Metagross. We were going to the Abandoned Power Plant today, a place I haven’t gone to before. I had heard legends about the place, and i had heard that lots of electric pokemon reside their.

“Yes Master,” Fritt said through telepathy. Fritt had learned how to talk in English and communicate when he was a Beldum, so he was one of my best friends.

“Ok buddy, to the Plant,” I replied, jumping up onto his smooth, tough back. We floated up into the air and shot off like a rocket, making it to the Plant in record time.

We floated down, landing by the outpost just outside of the Power plant. “So Alaska huh,” I muttered. I then watched the horizon for any sign of my trainer.

So, you know that awkward moment when you think you're going somewhere cool and you end up at a spooky looking abandoned electric building that you were sure was full of axe murderers, heroin pushers, and ghosts? Yeah, I had that feeling. I could see my ranger and his Metagross on the ground about a hundred feet below me. Quetz, my Salamence, flapped his wings lazily, then angled himself towards the ground. As he glided down, I couldn't help feeling apprehensive about the Power Plant... It really did like an abandoned mental institution in a crappy made-for-TV movie. You know the kind I mean, the ones where hot blonde chicks get stabbed after they're inexplicably and wonderfully naked in a shower? I think I'm getting off topic.

    Anyways...

Riding on Quetz had gotten me used to being high up, but I still winced every time we landed. His legs and body were meant to absorb the shock of impact after hitting the ground going anywhere up to 50 mph. Mine, unfortunately, was not. I felt very tingly and numb as I slid down his tail. I couldn't help noticing my ranger was younger than me, but who cares? After all, if you're in a horror movie and you're with a kid, you're like three times safer. The kids never die, which is good, because the teenage girls always do unless you're in a Joss Whedon show. He smiled at me and waved as I approached him. Quetz shook himself and turned around, so that his head was about even with mine.

"So. This place looks creepy, huh, Scoob?" I said jokingly to Quetz. He snorted, producing little puffs of smoke, and did what can only be called a Salamence version of a shrug. It involved heaving his entire upper body up, which made him look even bigger and more menacing. My ranger's Metagross' eyes seemed to twitch a little. "Not even for a Scooby snack?" Quetz snorted again, but this time with laughter. Good. Animals and kids, those are the ones you're safe with. Plus I had a huge blue dragon that could barf fire. That definitely helped. "Hi there," I said, introducing myself to the ranger, "I'm Alaska and this is my 'Mence. He won't eat you. Pinky promise."

I saw a large, black dot in the sky. The dot started to get larger as it came closer to us. I could just make out the blue color of a Salamence.

“Is that them, master?” Fritt asked me. I nodded my head, recognizing the Salamence. It floated down and landed on the ground with a heavy thump.

I saw a girl that looked two or three years older than me slide off the Dragon’s tail. As she walked up to me, the Salamence followed, trying to stay head level. I felt Fritt shudder next to me. He wasn’t used to seeing big Pokemon yet.

“It’ll be fine buddy,” I whispered to him as the duo approached.

The girl walked up to me and smiled. It felt weird knowing that I was going to be leading a girl older than me through an old, spooky place. “Hi there,” the girl said to me. “I’m Alaska, and this is my ‘Mence. He won’t eat you, I promise.”

I chuckled at this and introduced myself. “I’m Damian, and this is Fritt, my Metagross. I guess we’re just wasting daylight out her, and I’m not getting paid to talk, so let’s go,” I said, laughing.

I led the way to the door, where I pushed it open with a eerie creeking noise. I almost wanted to be scared, but then I remembered who I was leading. “Ranger’s aren’t scared, especially with older girls,” I thought to myself.

We continued walking, and the rooms got darker. I could still hear the whhiir of some machines running.
I instantly kicked something on the floor, and almost screamed. Whatever it was had bit down on my foot. I wanted to scream, but Fritt lit up the small room and I recognized the thing on my foot.

It was medium in size, and a darkish purple. I was almost grossed out that I had this thing on my foot. Shaking it off, I looked to Alaska.

“Looks like this Swalot wants to battle you, you want to battle it?” I asked.

My ranger chuckled, running a hand through his hair and introduced himself. “I’m Damian, and this is Fritt, my Metagross. I guess we’re just wasting daylight out her, and I’m not getting paid to talk, so let’s go,” he said, laughing. The Metagross nodded amicably.

My ranger, who my brain filed away as Damian, grabbed the rusty metal door handle and pulled it open. It made a loud screeching noise and I winced slightly. He looked fearful for a moment, then seemed to remember himself and instead tried to act calm. Like I could blame him. Even from this distance I could see several large spiderwebs... Or perhaps the webs of something larger than your everyday garden spiders. Gah. At least Quetz could roast any bugs (or Bug Pokemon) like spring hens. One more benefit of having a walking barbecue with wings. "Wanna go first?" I asked Quetz apprehensively. He made a throaty chuckling sound and pushed me ahead with one claw. "You big baby," I muttered. I stepped into the Electrical Plant gingerly. My first impression was that it was really, really dusty. I fought the urge to sneeze and the thought of sneezing made me pause. One downside to my sentient flamethrower.

"Uh," I muttered to Quetz," Please don't sneeze.

Aside from being dusty it was incredibly dark. There were a few fluorescent lights left, but they were so dim I could only see about a foot in front of me at any time, and they flickered periodically. When the first guy with a hockey mask and a chain saw started chasing us, Quetz would be getting an 'I told you so'. There were random pieces of machinery laying around that I couldn't figure out the uses for. They didn't look electrical. They were probably used to torture unsuspecting teenagers who wandered into places they shouldn't be trying to capture Pokemon. I kept walking forward, trying to seem like a badass, when I bumped into my ranger, who was now standing completely still. He was looking at the floor, horrified. There was a flash of light as his Metagross lit up the room, revealing a purple, veined blob sitting in the middle of the floor. It glared at us with beady eyes and it opened its mouth threateningly, revealing toxic looking saliva and a thick, swollen black tongue.

"It... It looks like a Barney fetus," I muttered, completely disgusted.

“Looks like this Swalot wants to battle you, you want to battle it?” my ranger asked, turning to look at me. He kept one eye on the Pokemon as he did.

Right. Because what I needed was a stomach-bile filled monster that looked like a grape that'd been run over by a car. At the same time... it would be really funny to hide it in Roulette's trash can. I snickered evilly. Yes. Yes, I would finally get revenge on him for linking me to 4chan constantly. I rubbed my hands together.

"Let's do this," I said, narrowing my eyes in a manner that I hoped looked cool. More likely, it probably made me look like I needed glasses. Oh well. "Let's start off with a Flamethrower, Quetz."

I stepped out of the way as I heard the flames crackling in his mouth. The whole room was lit up as the beam of fire shot towards the Swalot.

As I asked the question, Alaska seemed to get a look of revenge on her face and began rubbing her hands together. I gulped, sorry for whoever she had in mind for this Pokemon to get. I won’t lie; she did scare me at first. She looked like one of those corrupted people that corrupted others, maybe even kids like me.

“Let’s do this,” Alaska said, narrowing her eyes. I almost laughed, completely not expecting this girl to have an evil side at first. I saw Fritt tighten up next to me.

“Calm down buddy, you’re not battling, just watching over. If things get bad, I’ll send you in. It’s part of being a ranger,” I said to my Pokemon.

“Ok, but if this Salamence starts getting beat, I’m stepping in,” Fritt said to me. I again almost laughed. This run was probably my most amusing run so far, and it was only just beginning. I motioned for Fritt to get up against a wall, then I climbed on his back.

“Let’s start off with Flamethrower, Quetz,” Alaska commanded. I knew that this attack would really heat this room up, and deal a nice amount of damage as well.

The blue and red dragon drew his head back, than flicked it forward, shooting a trail of flames towards the purple glob. The flames engulfed the small creature, making him wince.

I could see the burn marks, but none were permanent. That was unfortunate for Alaska, if the attack would have burned, Swalot would be taking a lot more damage.

Swalot quickly retaliated. Jumping forward, the small, purple creature slammed Salamence with its two fists. I then looked to Alaska, to see her response.

Quetz's flames engulfed the smaller, purple blob and I'd hoped they'd done a lot of damage. Unfortunately, when they faded I could see that the Swalot or whatever the hell it was called was mostly alright, other than a few scorch marks. I sighed. It was going to be a long day. Damian's Metagross appeared to be frightened and was chattering at him. My ranger was focusing on comforting the Pokemon. How could it be afraid of anything? It was a floating tank with eyes, I mean, God. It'd be like if I was afraid of sandwiches. The Swalot recovered quickly and punched Quetz a couple time. This surprised the big blue dragon, as he almost always managed to dodge attacks. His eyes lit up with fire and that's about when I realized it was party time.

"Looks like things are about to get real. Earthquake!" I shouted and cackled. Mmm, yes, that blob was mine. Roulette was going to get barfed on or... or... well, I'd have to go to the store and buy a whole lot of crickets, duct tape, bubblegum, and a shovel. Meanwhile, as I was plotting my revenge, Quetz prepared to release the mother of all quakes on the poor, tumor-like Pokemon in front of us. He gripped the ground with his legs and I watched as his muscles tensed and a roar built in his throat.

Alaska was quick on her feet, which was good for any trainers in the national park. She thought quickly, but then decided a bad move. ”Looks like things are about to get real. Earthquake!" Alaska commanded.
I gulped, and Fritt rose into the air. I knew that being on the ground in an Earthquake could result in a baaad time. Fritt’s eyes flashed a purple, and lifted Alaska into the air with his psychic powers.

I wanted to congragulate Fritt for getting both of us, but I knew his psychic powers weren’t very good. Alaska was flipped around a couple of times, then dropped straight on her back.
While alaska was still in the air, Quetz moved into action. He dropped to all fours. And roared, shaking the whole building. The glob was tossed around like a doll. At the same time, the walls shook bad enough for the cracks already there to start growing bigger.

“Hey,” I started. “Watch out for moves like that, or this whole building’s gonna come down.”

Swalot was a fast recoverer, I’ll give him that. He jumped up, and opened his large jaws even wider. Purple gunk shot out, flying through the air towards Salamence. I watched Alaska, to see her response.

Just as the ground started shaking, Damian's Metagross picked me up off of the ground. This was probably a good thing, as I was a total dumbass and forgot that the ground was about to start shaking. Which it did. Violently. Quetz let out a primal sounding roar that was nearly loud enough to burst my eardrums. The Metagross tipped back and forth like a Tilt-a-Whirl run by a drunk, sunburned redneck somewhere in the middle of one of those states that's nothing but corn. I felt slightly nauseous as both the Pokemon underneath me and the earth shook wildly. The Swalot was flipped around, knocking into the floor and bits of machinery, leaving purplish bruises that were even darker than its normal skin tone. The cracks in the walls widened and one opened up in the floor in front of us, though it was only a few inches deep. After about another minute of this, the shaking stopped. The Metagross could no longer carry both me and Damien, and it tilted backwards, spilling me onto the floor. My knees caught my fall. I winced, ready to scream a series of creative slurs, when I remembered my rangers age and decided to count to ten instead. Ten, nine... Screw it.

    "MOTHER **** ON A **** WITH *** IN A **** SANDWICH."

My ranger stared at me, looking horrified, amused, and vaguely impressed. “Hey,” he said, eventually, “Watch out for moves like that, or this whole building’s gonna come down.” He gestured to several pieces of machinery that had cracked and the walls which were looking worse for wear.

I nodded. Having the walls fall down on me wouldn't be fun. It was sort of like when Roulette filled my apartment with... My eyes glazed over for a moment. Dear God. As I snapped back to reality, the Swalot started pulsating. It reminded me of a Meowth right before it coughs up a furball. Then it vomited purple bile all over Quetz. "That's... really janky," I said, wincing. Quetz shook himself, sending the bile flying and I jumped out of the way to avoid it. He growled deep in his throat. "Okay, Quetz, we can't use Earthquake again so let's try Dragon Claw!"

Quetz nodded and his front claws began to glow with purple energy. He tensed up, ready to pounce at the Swalot.

Alaska did not seem amused by Fritt dropping her. She came up from the ground with some serious anger in her eyes. "MOTHER **** ON A **** WITH *** IN A **** SANDWICH!” she yelled. I couldn’t contain myself this time. I burst up laughing, losing my balance and falling off of Fritt.

I hit the ground with a thud, hurting my leg. Oh well, I guessed I’ll just watch the battle from down here. Alaska got over her anger quickly and looked back to the battle.

The purple pile of puke just sat there, staring at Quetz. It shook for a second, then summoned up a pile of purple vile and shot it all over Quetz. A sludge bomb. I knew the attack did damage, and had a small chance of poisoning.

Looking at Quetz, I could tell he got lucky and didn’t get poisoned. Alaska was quick to respond too. "Okay, Quetz, we can't use Earthquake again so let's try Dragon Claw!" she commanded. Quetz stomped forward, raising one of his giant paw-like things.

The claws grew from the paw, glowing eerie neon purple. They flashed as Quetz brought his paw down, slashing the purple gunk pile. Swalot was flung backwards like a rag doll, slamming into the hard, gray, concrete wall.

Swalot fell to the ground with a thud. It flatted out, than sprang back up again. One thing was for sure, it was a fighter.I also had a feeling this Pokemon and Alaska would get along great if she kept it.

Swalot rushed forward, preparing another attack. He jumped into the air, did a flip, and started forming a black ball of energy. Before he hit the ground he threw the ball at Quetz. A shadow ball. The ball slammed into Quetz, dealing damage. I looked to Alaska to see how she would respond to this.

As I screamed, my ranger began giggling hysterically. He laughed so hard he actually slid off the Metagross, though he landed a lot better than me. Seemed like he was used to it. You'd really think a living tank would be strong enough to hold the both of us, but that's just my luck. Fuckin' magnets, how do they work? Anyways... My ranger leaned against his Metagross and watched what I was doing, I guess to make sure I didn't get myself in too much trouble. Puh-lease, like that blobby... thing could cause me any trouble? Nope. I had a freakin' dragon.

I watched as the dragon in question slashed at the Swalot with its claws and flipped it into a wall. The purple glow around its claws faded. It slid down the wall slowly like a character straight out of Looney Tunes. I vaguely wondered what would happen if I dropped an anvil on it. It'd probably get back up and be perfectly flat. Damn. Now I was going to end up actually trying to do that at some point. Just as I'd imagined, it popped back up after a moment and shot a black, evil looking ball of energy at Quetz. It hit him dead on. Heh. That ball of energy reminded me of the time me and the Shipping gang were in New Orleans. That was post Tampa actually...

Mardi Gras was absolutely incredible. The lights, the drinks, the chicks... Uh... The chicks... Plus all the warrants for our arrests gave us a good excuse for some Scooby Doo-esqe chase scenes. You know, with the music, and the running in and out of doors, and me ending up carrying a police officer instead of Derian... Good times. Good times.

Wait, what the hell am I talking about? Oh, right. Yeah, battling. I could tell the Swalot was getting way easier and I didn't want to accidentally cause it to faint. "Quetz, I know you're pissed off about being puked on. Trust me, bro, I know your pain." The Salamence growled. "But... we need to capture the blobby purple thing. Can you very carefully use Aerial Ace without hurting it too much?"

Quetz nodded begrudgingly and lifted one paw full of razor sharp claws.

Staring at Alaska, she seemed to be lost in thought. I knew that if she didn’t move quickly, the Swalot would move first. I climbed back onto Fritt and stared at the battle. Alaska was taking forever to think about her next attack compared to some of the other times.

"Quetz, I know you're pissed off about being puked on. Trust me, bro, I know your pain." Alaska said to her partner Pokemon. The dragon grunted in reply. "But... we need to capture the blobby purple thing. Can you very carefully use Aerial Ace without hurting it too much?" Alaska continued.

The dragon didn’t seem amused by this at all. It looked more annoyed than anything. It rose one paw, and claws shot out. They glowed a magnificent white, and glittered. I almost laughed, thinking of Quetz as Puff the Magic Dragon.

Puff, no, Quetz, slammed his claw down across of Swalot’s front. Swalot seemed hurt, but not very badly.

Rearing back, I saw anger in Swalot’s eyes. He was ready for revenge. Lucky for the little purple guy, Quetz was in close range. Swalot jumped forward and slammed the dragon in the chest. A body slam.

Quetz stumbled, but kept his balance. I wondered how Alaska would react to this.
