Beginner Run: Serina (GhostlyGlaceon)

NBP #1

The Botanic Gardens are a biodiversity miracle in the world of flora. Plants of every shape, size, and region burst to life beneath the gentle sun, overcoming all boundaries of soil pH and water and shade to flourish into an incredible, self-sustained biome with a little bit of everything from all walks of life. Rippling planes are interrupted only by other forms of greenery. Broad-leaf trees rise above the beautiful stretch of grasses in small clusters of forest. The place is never quiet--creatures of all kinds scuttle through the undergrowth and up the trees ceaselessly.

Today, the weather is nice. The sun smiles on the world from spotless sky, an endless canvas of blue specked only occasionally with fluffy white wisps of cloud. The Gardens thrive beneath the spectacular warmth. Around the edges of the Garden's wide area, however, things fall more quiet; the various plants and shrubbery slowly fade into tamed, trimmed grass that wards away stray Pokemon from the sod fence that treks around the biome. Wooden gate lays wide open, swaying lightly in the breeze, seemingly a consequence of carelessness--but a closer look shows that it's far from unattended.

A quiet and serene humming trickles from within the fence as the old, kimono-clad woman wanders into view. Her pace is slow, hunched form resting weight on a gnarled cane. Beside her is a four-legged creature whose height stretches several inches over her short figure. Shaggy mane of leaves hangs about the Gogoat's neck, trailing down its spine to cover small tail. The little leafy flag wags contentedly. Great, dual-horned head lowers white-masked face to graze. Powerful molars shred the grass and trim it neatly down to its roots. Its red hooves flatten the greenery as it goes.

Were she in a part with taller grass, she'd look like some kind of old, wise, prophetic shepard guiding a flock. Instead, she looked like some old lady with a Gogoat singing to herself. Nothing about her really shouts "Ranger." She stops to look up at the position of the sun in the sky and gives a small sigh. Watery blue gaze turns to look out of the gate. This "Serina" should be here any moment, but Babbs hope she'll be quick about it--she's not getting any younger here!​

The sun was bright and the wind blew through her hair while she ran down the forest roads wondering when she would reach her destination. As she was running futher down the trail a pair of gates caught her glance so she picked upt he pace excited see what was waiting for her. The gates drew closer and closer and the closer they got the more excited she was. She finally arrived to her Destination and she caught glimps of and elderly lady and a Go Goat standing there stareing out at the sun. She slowly approches the two and introduces herself, "Hey, My names Serena. By any chance are you waiting for me?"​

 

NBP #2

She's pleased when she sees the girl running--and in quite a hurry--down the path. Watery eyes trace up and down the tall figure that streaks toward her. It seems the little lady likes purple--an agreeable color. Babbs can live with that! A little smile tugs at the woman's lips as she approaches, then cuts right to the chase! Now that, she could get used to! Time spent beating around the bush was time wasted for the elderly woman.

Shoulders shift the weight of the towering hiker's pack on her back to be a bit more comfortable. She leans her bun back into the bag as she looks up at her charge. She taps her cane against the ground. Nana looks up from her grazing at the gesture and stares quietly at them for a moment, chewing her cud.

"I am, actually! The name's Babbs, it's a pleasure to meet ya', lil' lady." There's a little twinkle in her eye, but before she can say anything else, her jealous companion has wandered over. The Gogoat snuffles at the Ranger and then moves her head over to the stranger to examine her. Wide nostrils sniff at the Trainer for a second, and then the Gogoat suddenly tries to nibble on the top of her hair!

"Nana, manners!" Babbs chides, raising her cane to give the leafy beast a gentle tap on the haunch, nowhere near hard enough to harm--just to get her attention. Reluctantly, the hoofed creature steps back to Babbs' side. "Sorry about that, dear, she's a little color blind," she explains with a little chortle. Wrinkled features turn over her shoulder to gaze out at the Gardens behind them.

"Well, I figure they gave the rules rundown at the sign in? Remember to keep a Pokemon out at all times, so choose yours now and we'll head right in, dearie." Babbs reaches into the loose folds of her kimono and retrieves Nana's ball, returning the cloven beast to his sanctuary.​

She takes a bit to refocus after being dustracted by the cute Gogoat that had just stood before her. After realising she hadn't answered Babbs's questions she quickly turn her head back to her ranger and bowed to her while apologising sincerly for losng focus.

"Oh yes i was informed of the rules at sign up and to be perfectly honest im really excited to begin," she says with a smile on her face. Her expression suddenly goes from a smile to a confused look as though she had forgotton something, ahh what was it she said about a pokemon. She then remembered what Babbs had said she must have a pokemon out at all time so she reached to her belt and pulled off one of her pokeballs. "I think ill choose this one" she said softly as she threw it into the air, "I choose you ... Pixie" she shouted loudly. The pokeball burst open and in a fladh out popped a cute pink Sylveon.

Once Sylveon landed in font on her she turned to Sylveon and said "Hey Pixie, are you ready to explore the Botanic Gardens with me?" The Sylveon then smiled and replyed with a variation of noises as though it had understood every word Serena said to it. The Sylveon looked just as excited as its trainer to explore the wonders of the Botanic Gardens.

Serena then began to introduce her pokemon to her new ranger. " This is my Sylveon, Pixie and she is just one of my pokemon friends i have aquired in my journeys so far." She then turned to her Sylveon and began introducing it to Babbs, "Pixie this is our new friend Babbs the Park Ranger and she will joining us today on our adventure." Sylveon jumped with joy to meet Babbs and squeeked to say hello. " We are ready to go in now Babbs" She said eager to enter the national park and see the wonders of the Botanic Gardens. "Shall we get going?"

 

NBP #3

The young girl's enthusiasm is contagious and exciting--it makes Babbs feel a little bit younger, puts a bit more of a bounce into already surprisingly spry step. A Pokemon is chosen and summoned from its ball. The telltale flash of red forms a small, four-legged silhouette, and a cute one, at that! Crystalline blue eyes gaze up at waiting Trainer, blue- and pink-tipped ribbons fluttering slightly in the breeze. It's a precious little thing, with tall pink ears and a bow placed on one. Serina introduces her as Pixie.

Intelligent Sylveon responds actively to her Trainer's words. The Ranger is charmed at the close bond, unable to suppress a warm smile. Elder Ranger gives a respectful, almost theatrical, bow as she's introduced.

It seems that they're both settled well. The offer to continue arises and she nods. "Gladly, hun," she responds kindly, then turns and begins to shuffle through the meadow that surrounds the lush growth of the gardens. The surrounding grass starts off trimmed and cropped, but the closer they get, the more wild it grows, reaching taller and taller until it's up to the Ranger's hips. Regardless, she trudges through, gently beating down a path with her cane.

While it seems she stares blankly and idly ahead, in reality, she tunes all of her senses to her environment. Pupils dart from side to side and old ears listen to the way the wind moves and the cries of the bustling gardens up ahead. In fact, she hears the rustle of grass before the erratic sway in the nearby green stalks is noticeable. Her hand reaches back to signal Serina to stop. Head turns to a spot where the grass wobbles differently, against the breeze.

Two dark ears with pink insides begin to rise ever-so-slowly up above the grass, rising gradually until the top of a round body and head peek up. Two beady eyes and an unhappy little frown poke over the swaying stalks. Rabbit-like audits twitch with a cautious curiosity as the Pokemon stays there, still, only its eyes and ears up above the foliage as it examines the new intruders. It's visibly nervous but it's still trying to decide if these three figures are a threat or not.

Babbs turns her head back toward the Trainer and her Pokemon. "Stay quiet," she whispers. "This Sentret's watching us like it's on guard. Do you want to battle it? Or try to sneak by?" ​

Distracted by the sunlit fields, Serena noticed that she had misplaced her partner Pixie. She looked around for her and started to panic. After searching for a bit she noticed she had lost track of the ranger as well so she decided to run ahead and try catch up hoping her Sylveon was with Babbs.

Finally catching up to her ranger, she was relieved to see that Pixie was still with her and she collapsed to the ground to catch her breath. Babbs then turned to her and whispered for her to stay quiet as there was a Sentret watching them. She looked around trying to spot the Sentret when Babbs asked her whether or not she wanted to try and capture it. She spotted the cute Sentret just up ahead and thought about whether she wanted to battle it. "I'm not sure I want to disturb it, I think I might leave it be," she kindly replied. Not sure about her own words she then turns to her Sylveon and asks its opinion, "What do you think Pixie, would Sentret be a good addition to our team or would you rather continue on and see what else we can find?" Sylveon gave a smile and nodded in agreement to Serena's words and then started to wander off further into the grass. "I guess that means Pixie agrees that we shouldn't disturb it."

Serena scans the area for her Sylveon who wandered off out of sight. "I wonder where Pixie wandered off to?" she whispers quietly. In the distance you see this little pink head pop out of the grass with a big grin as if she was playign a game of hide and seek. " Ah, there she is, i'll go get her." Serena quietly gets up to go retrieve her Pokemon. THUD Serena trips over soon after getting up and then vanishes into the grass. She slowly picks herself up, dusts herself off and then turns around to apologise to her ranger, "I am sorry Babbs, Pixie's just excited. Shall we try to move on?"

 

BP #1

She opts to leave it in peace--a choice that Babbs agrees with. If they can sneak by, then can keep the Sentret from alerting the rest of the Gardens to their presence, or from sending the remaining Pokemon into a panic with an alarm call. There's also something to be said for a Trainer who doesn't just plow through everything in their way, preferring to take more peaceful means of avoiding Pokemon. It's also endearing that she consults her lead Pokemon on the decision--it helps Babbs feel more secure in moving forward.

The old woman shuffles quietly through the grass, hunched posture helping to keep her head low as she tries to move without any sudden movements. She begins to whisper: "Slowly, now, wouldn't want to startle--"

A pink head pops up right behind the small, furry eyes poking above the grass.

Snapping of Sylveon's ribbons in the breeze reach the Sentret's tall ears and it gives a shrill, surprised cry as it alerts every Pokemon in the Gardens to the two's presence in a single moment. It bounces back upon its tail away from the Fairy, releasing another impressively loud shout for such a tiny creature. The Hyper Voice ripples out in a wave through the grass, hitting Pixie head-on!

The small feline falls down at the blast of sound, giving a small cry of discomfort at the way it hurts her ears. She recovers and drags herself back up to her feet and her head pops back up above the grass.

This also turns out to be a mistake--the panicked Sentret mistakes the sudden reappearance as an enemy coming to attack. It soars through the air with a massive bounce upon its tail. Fist glows with a dark energy as she slams it rapidly into Pixie's side. The Sucker Punch socks her in the gut, winding her momentarily. She stumbles away and looks back to her Trainer with a distressed sound, in need of guidance! ​

Serena hears the distressing sound coming from her Sylveon, she quickly looked back to find her sylveon laying on the ground wounded. " Pixie" She yells in worried tone while rushing towards her injured Pokemon. " Okay I tryed to be nice and leave the sentret alone but now my Sylveon is hurt, I won't stand here and let that Sentret get away with hurting her like this" Serena's expression changed as she picks her sylveon up and moves her a side. " Pixie, sit this one out for me ok, you're hurt i can't let you battle this one," she reaches for her belt and pulls off a blue pokeball with yellow pattern that was kind of a mix of a star and a cross.

She then throws the Quick Ball into the air and shouts, "Coral, battle stance!" In a flash of red light a graceful yellow and orange mouse appears before it's trainer, balancing delicately on its tail which was levitating above the ground using an unseen power. Raichu's coral blue eyes focused carfully on the Sentret knowing that it was the reason its trainer called it out to help. Raichu turns to its trainer anbs grins as if ready to jump strait into battle, Serena then nods her head giving the ok for Raichu to fight. Raichu then lets out a loud battle cry and returns its focus back at the Sentret. Serena then calls out to her Raichu and commands it to attack the Sentret, "Okay Coral, I want you use Double Team, confuse that Sentret then follow up with Thunder at full power."

 

BP #2

The Trainer has a sense of justice for her Pokemon--Babbs leans on her cane as she watches the battle the now begins to get underway. Her posture is relaxed, easy-going, with lazy eyes and drooping features, but beneath the guise, every sense is tuned to the things going on in front of her. In her younger days, she made the mistake of growing inattentive while a Trainer battled only once, after a stray projectile had nearly brained her. So she watches everything as it unfolds.

Another battler is sent. Babbs' brows raise at the Pokemon that is released. It's got all of the characteristics of a Pokemon she's known for ages--curled ears, bright cheek pouches, lightning bolt tails, beige belly--but they're all a bit different. A unique energy pulses from it. The regional variation is one she's heard before but never seen, so it's interesting to finally get to see it in the flesh. Intent Trainer gives ambitious commands.

Coral nods and its form suddenly begins to quiver. The creature seems to peel away into two, then three, then four. Sentret stops, confused. Babbs feels the electricity before it starts--all the hairs on her arm raise. Small mammal senses it, too. It surges forward with eyes focused on the Raichu's movements as all the clones shift to summon the Thunder. It gives a mighty cry and suddenly, it channels the Thunder first. It doesn't have to know which is the real clone if it copies a move that hits them all!

Startled by the electricity that surges through it that's not it's own, Coral pauses, then pushes the charge to the approaching opponent. It stalls as the electricity courses violently through its body. It teeters, disoriented, but also finds itself a little... forgetful. It tries to regain its balance, stopping for a second.​

"Good work Coral" She shouts out to her Raichu. "Now use Agility!" Raichu jumps off its tail and onto all fours, then begins to run towards Sentret in a diagonal pattern picking up more and more speed as it runs towards it target. Right before Raichu made contact Sentret it heard Serena Shouting out to it, "Now jump up into the air Coral and hit it with Brick break!" With no hesitation Raichu stopped suddenly in front on Sentret and then shot into the air above it.

Using Agility like this should increase the damage of Brick Break when Coral hits Sentret from that hight, Serena crosses her finger tight and then mutters to herself "I Believe in you Coral, make me proud." Raichu finally begins its decent back to earth and while it fell it began to spin. As Raichu span towards Sentert its tail began to glow. Drawing closer to the confused pokemon below Raichu began to reposition itself into Brick Break. Right before making contact with Sentret, Raichu swerved its body around midair, bringing its glowing tail forward to use Brick Break on the Innocent pokemon below it.

 

BP #3

The Sentret proves to be a surprisingly formidable opponent, one that is full of surprises and always on its toes. But it stalls as soon as it's stunned by the electricity that shocks its way through its form.

Encouragement leaps out from the Trainer. Serina seems to be caught-up in the battle. For this, Babbs is glad--she's seen the distraction of a Trainer nearly cost them all their lives in more difficult battles. Serina gives clear, thoughtful direction to her Pokemon, making it easy for the Alolan Raichu to follow directions. At the command of ability, the surfing creature hops off of its board. Short legs begin to carry it rapidly across the grass. Small body darts back and forth, flashing yellow tail waves like a brilliant flag above the stalks as it moves.

Body stops short on Trainer's command. Lithe form lunges up. Bolt-shaped tail is suddenly overtaken by a bright glow as the Raichu starts to crash down on the Sentret. Trainer's cries finally awake it from its daze, snapping it out of its brief, stunned state. It sees the oncoming opponent and gives a frightened squeak, curling promptly into a small, defensive ball. With a flourishing spin, the momentum-packed Coral slams the Brick Break into the balled-up Pokemon's side. An incredible smack rings out at the force of the blow, and sends the round Pokemon flying back toward the gardens in a bouncing ball of fur, hopefully to not bother them again!

Babbs is smiling by the time the encounter is over. "You did well," she says kindly. The Trainer had a rough start, but her creativity and clear orders to her Pokemon had pulled her through.

Coral bounces gracefully back onto her board, adrenaline and effects of the Agility fading away. Smoothly, she glides back over, riding invisible waves of electricity as she drifts back to join them. She cuddles affectionately back up to her Trainer's leg with a fond chirrup.

"You, too, Coral," comes Babbs' own praise as she begins to shuffle forward. The verdant green of the gardens was spread out before them, waiting! Cane strikes out into the path before her, prepared to guide her young Trainer into more exciting encounters! However, she doesn't do so quietly--she keeps pace beside Serina to chat with her as they go.

"How long have you been a Trainer?" she asks quietly, conversationally. She seems occupied by the conversation, but in reality, her senses are attuned to the world around her, betrayed by the constant glances she makes to and fro.​

"You did amazing Coral, i'm so proud of that finish!" Serena yells as she runs towards her Raichu. Raichu Starts to rushes towards Serina with arms open and bouncing with joy. Serena jumps into Raichu's arms and spins her around Saying, " You preformed perfectly, I couldnt' ask for a better preformance." Raichu responds with a joyful cry and was just as proud of itself as it trainer was, It then let go of Serina and smiled.

Reaching for her belt Serena pulls the quick ball off and enlarges the ball by pressing the center button. "Ok Raichu take along rest" Serina says softly with a smile on her face and with a flash of read the graceful yellow mouse vanishes into the pokeball. " I apologise Babb's, I wasn't ignoring I was just so proud of how my Raichu preformed in that battle, she gave off a big smile and then started to giggle. "we've been together for a long time me and Raichu, she was the first pokemon i ever caught." Recalling on past memories of the earlier days when she first started out as a trainer, when her family started her on her path to become better. Noticing she drifed off without answering Babb's question again Serena shook her head and then turned to Babb's, " Sorry, I've been a Trainer for well i guess 5 years now. I've havn't yet traveled everywhere yet but i am well on my way." Serina continues to talk about her past, " It started out as a hobby and i never took fights seriously when i first started."

"It was my family who started me out on this journey, they disagreed with me just having it as a hobby and were very dissapointed in me." Serena's expression became blank and a tear began to fall from her eye. " I went out on this journey to prove to my family I can be a great trainer." She then wiped her eye's and suddenly her expression changed again to a smile, "hahaha! I'm sorry Babb's look at me becoming a gloomy guts." Suddenly a bright red light flashes from Serena's belt and in within seconds her Sylveon appears next to her. Sylveon then cuddles up to Serena to cheer her up, " Pixie, what have i told you about letting yourself out silly." Sylveon makes a few squeeks but Serena already knew why she let herself out.

Sylveon was Serena's first pokemonback back then she was an Eevee given to her by her grandmother for her birthday. "I'm sorry Pixie I know you just wanted to cheer me up," Serena began to smile and hug her Sylveon. "Thank you Pixie, shall we continue on our journey?" Pixie squeeks excited to continue and then she glances over to Babb's and smiles.

 

NBP #4

They are a jolly bunch, all smiles and reassurance. Wholesome is the word that just comes to mind. This kind of pure, unadulterated happiness and trust in one's partner was like a mythical textbook version of what coexisting with Pokemon should be about--it was rare these days. It reminds Babbs of herself when she was that age. The old lady only hopes that the world is kinder to Serina than it was to Babbs.

Serina speaks about her past and Babbs listens attentively, though she's still on the lookout for danger. Her starting off with Pokemon as a hobby is a bit of a... strange concept to Babbs. Pokemon have never been a hobby for the woman--they've been a lifestyle, more than just idle pets. It'd be strange to think of them as some pastime that one goes to when they're bored or stressed. But it seems like the girl has had enough dissent on that opinion; she talks then about her family's disapproval, and her journey to prove herself to them. The Ranger can hear the tears in her town, so she spares her the shame by not looking back at her.

"It's quite alright, dear," she soothes, only sparing a glance over her shoulder when she catches a glimpse of the bright red flash of light in her peripherals. Babbs gives a smile and a nod at Serina's question.

"If we wait long enough, the adventure will come to us," she advises with a low chuckle. And at that moment, it does--a bug drifts across their path. It has a small, yellow and white body, with a long brown mouth and small wings. Four dangling legs give a little shake as the creature squeaks and stops, noticing them. The Cutiefly's beady eyes flash to each of them, and then it buzzes fearfully up into the trees above with a tinkling sound.

"Interested in what Babbs?" Serena asked with a confused look on her face. It wasn't until she looked in the direction Babbs had pointed at that she saw the little yellow Creature. "Oh, is that a Pokemon?" she questioned. Babb's repled with a nod and said it was called a Cutiefly. Serena Pulled out her Pokedex and quickly searched for this Pokemon she had never heard of before. "Cutiefly you say ... " She spots it in her dex and with a loud squeal she says "Awww it's so adorable, I think I want to catch it Babbs!"

Serena then looks up at the tree which her Ranger was pointing at and tries to spot the small yellow bug. -I can't see a Cutiefly in that tree, she might be having senile moment- she thinks to herself, She then looks a little closer and spots the tiny yellow Cutiefly perched on a branch watching her and Babbs closely. -Uh i see it now, i'm glad she can't read my mind or i'd look pretty stupid-, Serena thought while giggling. "ah there it is," Serina say when she spotted the Cutify. -Who to use, it's pretty high up in that tree- as Serena was thinking about who to send in to this battle she remembered her Sylveon has very strong AoE Abilities. "Ah i know who to use!" she says in a serious tone as she prepares herself for this Pokemon Battle with Cutiefly. Serena kneeled down on one knee and and started to consult with her Sylveon, "Pixie sweety, i'm sending you into this battle if you are up for it?" Sylveon looks at her Trainer and gives her a look of determination with a small hit of a smile. Serena see's the determination in her Sylveon's face so she takes it as Pixie want to fight this battle for her.

"Ok Pixie, I choose you," she commands Sylveon to prepare to fight. "Take a deep breath Pixie, lets start by knocking this thing out te tree with a Hyper Voice." Sylveon looked back at her trainer and nodded in acknowledgment as she began straiting her stance. Sylveon moved her front left leg forward and her back right leg back a bit then began to crouch as if ready to strike. Taking in a deep breath, Sylveon let out an extreamly powerful scream that sent strong shock waves soaring through the Botanic Gardens. As the shock waves screamed through the Gardens Cutiefly was knocked out of the of the tree it was hiding in. After being struck by one of Sylveon's Hyper Voice shock waves, Cutifly was sent flying out of the tree it was in and into distance out of sight of Serena, Babbs and Sylveon.

"Oh damn, I think that might have over done it Pixie," she begins to giggle " you sent it flying very far, now we have to chase it." Serena turns to Babbs " Babbs can we chase that poor Cutiefly?"

Babbs waits patiently as she procures her identifying device. Now that's something she hasn't seen in a while. Most of the new, hip cool kids saw the Pokedex as totally passe and unnecessary in the wake of technology. The Pokedex is one of the few gadgets she approves of--at least it encourages all the young whippersnappers to get out a lil' more, to do things the old-fashioned way!

Ribbons ripple in the breeze as her reliable companion, Pixie, steps up to the plate once more. The cat-like creature gives a small purr as rosy eyes lock onto her target. Her Trainer gives a command and the Pokemon shifts into a crouched, ready stance, like a feline ready to pounce. But there's a glimmer of hesitation in Pixie's eyes as it processes the request being made of her. The creature's gentle nature makes it reluctant to move such a powerful move, especially one boosted by her ability, but her loyalty for her Trainer wins out in the end. Its mouth parts and it gives a massive, shrill cry that ripples fiercely on the wind. Babbs plugs her ears to defend herself from the sound, but eyes remain intent on the Cutiefly.

Pixie's moment of hesitation gives the Cutiefly just enough time to zip further up into the canopy, effectively moving out of range of the attack! Serena gives a giggle, asking if she can chase it. Babbs shakes her head. If there was one thing she'd learned in the Park, it was to never assume that your move always hit how you wanted it to! Nature always had something up its sleeve, and to assume that a move hit never worked well in the Park.

"Don't assume so much, child," she chides gently, minding the Pokemon's gentle nature, that seemed to match the tender heart of her Trainer. Just as she speaks, she sees the Cutiefly pop from the leaves above from behind Serena, out of her view--it buzzes straight for Pixie! "Look out!" comes her abrupt warning, shuffling out of the path of the battle, not seeing any reason to interfere. However, she does clap her ears back over her hand--a lot of time in the gardens tells her exactly what's coming next.

Papery rings rattling against one another suddenly erupt from the Cutiefly as it zooms over the Trainer and her Sylveon, the Bug Buzz causing a grating, painful sound that suddenly gives them both an irritating headache. Rapidly flapping wings also releases shimmering yellow powder as it passes rapidly by. As the Stun Spore clings to Sylveon's fur, she finds her movements becoming increasingly painful and slow, an occasional involuntary twitch shaking its form. It looks like she'll have to be careful about letting her guard down from now on!​
