Beginner RP: Sahma (The Woods)

NBP #1

A gentle breeze whisks through The Woods. The morning is chilly, calm except for the way the wind makes the trees whisper string after string of hushed, indecipherable secrets. Dew glistens freshly on every leaf, reflecting even the tiniest glimmers of sun that break through the rustling canopy. It's morning like these that Babbs finds herself refreshed and chipper, the glowing atmosphere of her beloved forest making it easier to ignore the arthritis that gnaws at her joints.

She lingers on top of the Ranger outpost that sits on this side of The Woods--a little sod hut whose back wall has melded with the grassy boundary behind it. It blends naturally against the earthen fence that races around The Wood's perimeter to keep it contained. The rounded roof slopes gradually down to meet the earth. Her beloved Gogoat roams up the small slope. Herbivorous teeth gnash at the verdant blades, sating her hunger as she meanders up toward where Babbs stands, surveying the nearby area.

Babbs is on the lookout for a "Sahma." Squinting, she gazes down at the familiar scrawling handwriting that offered her a description--"young kid, tan skin, red hair, looks suited for battle." That last part makes her nervous--she hopes that the Gate Ranger means battle in a Pokemon sense. Babbs wouldn't have any trouble-makers in her park.

Nonetheless, she keeps an eye out from her grassy perch. Nana settles to her stomach beside her, leafy tail wagging as she keeps an eye out, also.

Sahma had been seeing the Pokemon in the woods, his trusted sidekick Hanye-Ta and Rakar, (a female Eevee and a male Deino), were going on the journey with him. When he had seen Pokemon outside of N's castle he was glad they were free; however, at the same time he desired to train various Pokemon. As well as training his Pokemon to evolution standards. In the journey he had saw trainers from all stripes and felt The Woods would be the perfect place to start his journey. Hayne-Ta has always had the courage to be by itself while Rakar was a bit shy to go by himself, so the 2 decided to go on a stroll together, and Sahma would relax in the woods and use his encyclopedia given by N to find info about Pokemon. Sahma had always had a sword on his back so he wouldn't be too worried and he believed the power of his Pokemon to get a break from him. This went on for an hour and then he stopped for lunch and called his Pokemon, "Hanye-Ta, Rakar, come out foods ready," they both loved to eat so they ran quickly and reached his area and everyone had a feast. Sahma though was lost, so he had to stay put until a park ranger would find him, (he forgot who he was assigned to).

NBP #2

Time wears slowly on, dragging past the old woman who waits for her charge. Nervous blue eyes continuously pop up to the crawling sun as she gauges the time. Calm smile gradually begins to invert into a sour frown. Babbs isn't the kind to favor late-comers, and more and more she begins to think less that she's found a lazy Trainer and more that something has gone <i>wrong.</i> For a few moments, she paces atop the sod she rests upon. The sudden raise of Nana's head abruptly captures her attention. Brown ears sit snugly forward, at complete attention, the grassy goat's body falling completely still as it listens carefully.

Cloven hooves anxiously tap at the earth. She swivels horned dial to Babbs and bleats with unease. The old Ranger knows better than to doubt her companion's intuition. Aged heaves herself with surprising agility onto the creature's back. Within moments, they're charging into The Woods in a wild flurry of hooves, alarm pulsing through Babbs' body. Something was amiss!

Her steed soars over a fallen log and into a small clearing. Nana digs sharp hooves straight down into the earth and nearly throws Babbs from her back with the abruptness in which she stops. She looks up to see her charge simply sitting and having a little pow-wow with his two little buddies. She stares for a moment with mouth slightly open in shock. Then, she seals her lips and frowns, and hops off her Gogoat with cane raised.

"I've been standing on these old legs for ages waiting for you at the gate, mister!" she scolds as she approaches him, waving the gnarled crook in his direction. It looks like it'd hurt if she hit him with it. "And you've been out here havin' a picnic! I thought somethin' was the matter!" Arms fold across her chest with a grumpy harrumph. She looks him over, sees his age and also his sword. Between him getting past her and that weapon, she's afraid she's got a trouble-maker on her hands, and there's nothing she dreads more than a trouble-maker!

"Never enter an area without a Ranger, ya' hear me?" she says, trying to cool her temper. "And you'd best keep that thing sheathed, we don't want any trouble." Nana bleats nervously at her discontent. Babbs knows she's being a bit harsh. She tries a little harder to reign herself in and musters a long sigh. The woman makes an attempt to blunt her scathing tone.

"It's probably your first time, huh? That's alright, kiddo, just don't go doin' somethin' like that again. And listen when they give ya' the rules at the Gate--they might sound borin', but they're important!" And just like that, she's going back to her usual self. She shuffles about Nana to brush away the twigs that had snagged in her leaves in the frantic run. "We can move on, now. Just try to stick close, okay?" These kids make her hair turn even more white than it already is, she swears!​

Sahma was extremely interested in what the Park Ranger had to say, he was mostly amazed by the site of a Gogoat, it was actually his first time seeing a Pokemon like that, even though he had lived in N's castle and traveled with him on all his journey's. He took out his Pokedex and no information was provided on it, it said, "Gogoat, The Mount Pokemon, no information available". Sahma as well as Hanye-Ta and Rakar were all in shock by the site of a Gogoat.

Sahma eventually decided to follow the Park Ranger and actually decided to stay with the group, Sahma then realized that the Park Ranger was starring at the sword, Sahma had, and decided to tell them the story of the sword: "If you are wondering why I have this, I'm an Orphan born in Kanto, I was forced to move from region to region and during those travels, there were lots of thugs everywhere, trying to take advantage of me and my pals, I would always defend them with Hanye-Ta, my Eevee, and then one day I saw Jirachi and he asked me for a wish, because he saw my dedication to all the orphans and abused Pokemon, and I wished that I could receive something to protect abused Pokemon as well Orphans. Jirachi decided to give me that gift through this sword." Sahma looked back to the Park Ranger and gave a message: "If I find out that anyone dares to abuse Pokemon, or humans they will be stopped, I don't care who it is, whether that be a rich man or a poor man, that is what it means to protect Pokemon with your life!" Sahma knew the sword was magically, and made through a Pokemon.

Sahma decided to put Hanye-Ta and Rakar on his shoulders and petted both of them, Hanye-Ta was brave and shouted with enthusiasm, "Eevee!", while Rakar was a bit shy and decided to keep quite, "Dei,,,no".

NBP #3

A Pokedex, eh? She went months without seeing them, and all the sudden they've stared popping up again--first with Serena and now with Sahma. She wonders if it's a retro fad that's popped up again. Watery blue eyes sweep over the gadget with a detached aloofness, not particularly caring too much about it but still somewhat interested. Babbs, for the most part, lives in her bubble in the woods and only sees the way society outside evolves when she's on a run. Pokedexes have evolved since she had her first one as a youth. Small, fond smile touches her lips as he identifies her Gogoat, seeming enraptured with it. She can't help but soften up to someone who finds her lifelong companion so interesting. The Ranger gives her friend a pat on her leaves, but returns to business when Sahma speaks about his sword.

Jirachi? Babbs has only seen the creature once in her time in the Park. The old woman gives him a look-over. He doesn't seem like someone Jirachi would choose, but the old Ranger shakes her head. "That's good, sonny, I'm glad you've got a righteous bone in ya'--" she praises, though yieldingly, "--but there won't be no need for that here in the Park. I promise that I got a lot more things up my sleeve that'll deal with things better than your sword. No abusers here, hun." She doesn't want to patronize the kid, nor does she want to crush his dreams, but the Park was a well-controlled environment, one that strictly nipped abuse and poaching in the bud.

Eyes dart to the enthusiastic Eevee and the... much less enthusiastic Deino. She notes their behavior down for future reference, growing eager to see how they handle the trials ahead. The kid's young, and his Pokemon also seem to be just as youthful, so she guides them to a more tame area of The Woods, leading them to a path that picks its way along the forest's new growth. More fearsome beasts rest within the heart of The Woods--she steers clear of there for now.

As they walk along the slightly-worn path, Babbs hears a rustling up ahead. She puts her hand out in front of her charge to halt him. Eyes flash upward to the source of the sound, and just past the first layer of leaves she spies a furry tan body.... that's not moving. She squints at it to see that it is moving--just very, verrrrry slowly.

"Interested?" she asks quietly, staring up at the Slakoth. It dangles from a thick branch as it slowly crosses the path from above. It moves one limb at a time, gradually making its way across at a pace slower than a snail. It shouldn't be too much of a difficult encounter--or so Babbs hopes. ​

Sahma was ready to battle, he actually preferred to send-out Rakar, but Rakar was extremely shy, "Rakar, come on out, let's face off this Slakoff, I just hope N will forgive me for this." Rakar immediately got out and started moving away, and started going towards a corner, so Sahma knew what he had to do, "Hanye-Ta, I guess it's up to you, let's face Slakoff, Rakar come on my shoulder I'll let you watch your very first pokemon battle" The Eevee immediately was ready for a fight, and Deino had come back on Sahma's shoulder. Sahma patted Eevee on the head, "Hanye-Ta, regardless what happens, I still love you for everything we've gone through, no more of hiding behind N's castle."
The Eevee was happy and shouted, "Eevee".
He also patted his Deino, "Rakar, I know your a bit shy, but watch how big sis, Hanye-Ta does it"
Rakar was truly understanding of Sahma.
Sahma: "Already Park Ranger, let's catch us a Slakoff"

 

NBP #4

Babbs watches the Deino with a mixture of interest and concern. Usually, creatures of its species are far from timid--in her time, they've proven vicious, rending flesh of itself and others. It's almost nice, to see one that isn't constantly lashing out at everything that comes near it, and yet she can't help but want to coddle the little thing. Words from Sahma's lips inform her that it's Rakar's first rodeo, and Babbs gazes up to the pale creature up above. Well, in that case, the old Ranger hopes that it's a good one!

Hanye-Ta stands at the ready, beady eyes aimed upward at her newfound opponent. Fluffy tail lashes with energy, lips pulling back to bare small fangs up at the lazy Slakoth. Low growl begins to ripple from her throat, trying to command the Normal-type's attention... but it doesn't even seem to notice the audience it has lying in wait down below. Features wrinkle with displeasure, and brown gaze turns back to look at her Trainer expectantly.

"She'll need some direction," Babbs quips gently, small smile curling up wrinkly jowls. "Wouldn't wanna give lil Rakar the wrong impression, y'know?" It'd be important to teach Rakar the importance of obedience once he grew into a much larger and... potentially more vicious, destructive beast. Besides, if Sahma had some game plan to get the Slakoth out of the tree, it'd be a shame for Hanye-Ta to get in a hurry and throw it off before the Trainer got to enact the scheme! ​
