    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Ivy wiped sweat from her brow and brushed her long, red hair back over her shoulder so it wasn't in the way. She'd been out here at the beaches for hours installing one of their newest features. Underneath her, the small boat shifted in the water.

With three screws in her mouth, she tightened the last one in place with the drill. Now the fishing pole holders were firmly attached the docks. She leaned back to observe her work, although careful not to rock her canoe too much. It was a nice day, but that didn't mean she wanted to take a dip in her Ranger attire.

The Beach was mostly covered with sand and small pockets of water, but lately they had built some extra docks, just like the ones they had in the Lakes area, to stretch out over some of the bigger liquid bodies. The idea was to let Trainers have an area to relax and fish, since many Pokemon strayed close to shore. For the last three days, this had been all she'd done. It had rained the first one, but the last two had been nice.

Ivy sat down so the boat was balanced and stretched her arms high above her head, hearing that satisfying crack in her shoulders. This wasn't hard work, but it took a long time.

She put the extra screws in the jar she'd brought and tightened the cap back on. The drill went back in the case too, and instead, she grabbed one of the fishing poles. She set it into the holder and mentally cheered when they stayed put. The holders were long enough so that the bottom part of the pole stuck out the bottom about a foot, giving it enough leverage to not be too top-heavy and fall into the water.

That would be good for casual fishing—for those who just wanted to leisurely sit around and see what bit. For when not in use, they had a storm strap to fasten them. A bunch of them would probably get broken over time—plus wild Pokemon would probably get curious, too.

“What do you think, Haji?” she said, digging in the bottom of the canoe for her canvas vest.

The purple cat was basking in the sun, curled up like he was sleeping. She knew, however, that the Espeon was always alert, despite his appearance. Through their mental link, she felt his pleased emotion and knew he approved. Then, there was a pause, as if he was interrupted. His words followed into her mind.

“You have a phone call,” he said, mentally.

She unclipped the device and looked it, but the screen was blank. However, within seconds, it lit up with a text message. Someone wanted to go for a run in this area—a Beginner run.

Ivy confirmed that she'd take the run and put her phone away, reaching for the paddle so she could return to shore. While Haji got to sleep on the dock, she had to be in the boat to actually reach what she was doing properly. She pulled the boat onto shore and tied it back up so it wouldn't go anywhere. Haji got up, stretched in an arch like a cat would do, and strolled down the wooden platform to meet her. Then they trekked to the Beach entrance.

It was pretty quiet; being such a nice day meant that most people were either out on runs or taking some time off. She didn't mind really. Her idea of free time was lounging around work really. Sam, the on-site medic, said she worked too much, but Ivy brushed that off. She didn't have much better to do, and it paid the bills.

They found the bench along the wall of the smaller outpost, stationed at the beginning of the Sandy Beach area. Here, they would wait for their Trainer to arrive, and hopefully they would have a good time. Beginner runs were mostly less stressful, as it was a more casual experience for newer people, to see if they liked the place or not. It was the Ranger's job to make sure they didn't run into anything too dangerous.

Who knows, maybe this new Trainer would want to try out the new fishing poles she just installed. Ivy wouldn't mind if it was a relaxing day at all.
