It was an unexpectedly cool morning on the beach. Clouds hung low in the sky, obscuring the sun, and the wind carried a surprising nip for this point in the summer. Meanwhile, beneath the waves, a Corsola writhed in terror. It had been caught in a tangle of seaweed, and the poor coral knew it would only be a matter of time before a predator took notice. Right on cue, a huge arthropod, practically five feet long, glided through the surf towards the hapless coral, its winglike shell cutting through the water more easily than any speedboat. As it closed in on the innocent Corsola, it reached out with a claw longer than a human's arm...

And deftly snipped away the plants snaring the poor creature before gliding away. The coral bobbed in shock for a moment before immediately making a break from the reef entirely. Meanwhile, the Armaldo resurfaced, stomping its way back up onto the sands to the side of its owner. "Hey, Schopenhauer! You've been working hard, or hardly working?" As he leaned over to brush a few strands of seaweed off his partner, Oliver Haralson reached back to ruffle through his pack.

To his dismay, it seemed that he may have to scuttle his original itinerary, as despite still being early for the Park Run it was already far cloudier- and chillier- than he'd have liked. Good thing I wore the long-sleeved park uniform! he mused as he stowed his hat to air out his short-cropped brown hair. Nonetheless, this was a Beginner Run, so it wasn't like they'd be going out on open water or plumbing the tidal caves to begin with. A Beginner Run! How could I forget! This was to be a new trainer's first time in the park to pad out their team- if they didn't finish up before the rain started, it wouldn't just be unpleasant, it might just have dire consequences for... Well, no. We'll be staying to the safe areas. Hopefully, anyways. At this point, all the Ranger had left to do was wait for the Trainer, and hope.

Thea stepped out of the Ranger Outpost she'd found. After arriving in the National Park and making her way to the beach, she'd found the weather looked less than favourable. She had ducked into the small outpost to change into something more appropriate for today’s weather.

Her skirt and tights and been replaced by a pair of light blue denim capris, while she'd opted to switch her ankle boots for a pair of white sandals. Her normal cami was now paired with a white cardigan.

Her hand reached into her over the shoulder bag as she walked, plucking a pair of Pokeballs from within. Treecko and Misdreavus were released as she went looking for the ranger who was meant to accompany her during her time here, the now empty orbs being placed back in her bag. The green reptile waded through the sand, following behind her, looking a little annoyed that the climate wasn't as he had been hoping, while his ghostly ally simply floated by Thea's side, as the trio continued down the beach.

As the well-dressed trainer arrived at the beach, Oliver caught sight and waved her down. By this point, he'd already recalled his Pokémon, since keeping track of one fighter would be more than enough work for today. "Hey! Over here! Welcome to the Park!" Despite calling out to the trainer, he promptly ran over in her direction, waving all the while. "Thea, right? Good to see you! And how are you guys doing," he continued, squatting down to reach out to her Treecko.

After straightening back up, the Ranger continued with scarcely a pause for breath. "I've got a good route planned for us! Through the dunes, over the bluff, straight out to the tide pools! As long as the weather holds out, it should go great! We can head out whenever you're ready." After a few moments of thought, he jolted upright and extended his hand. "Ah, how could I forget? I'm Oliver, and I'll be your ranger for today. Nice to meet you!"

Thea eventually heard someone calling out, and looked down the beach to see someone dressed in orange and black waving in her direction. She'd started to turn in his direction, but he was running towards her before she could get far. Between his outfit, and the fact he knew her name, she assumed this was the Ranger she'd been told would be guiding her.

"Hi there. Yeah, I'm Thea." she replied, before motioning to her two companions. "And these are Treecko and Misdreavus."

A slight smile corssed her lips as he dropped down to reach out to Treecko. In his standard form, the green reptile remained unmoving, simply staring back at the stranger. As he popped back to his usual height, she listened as he listed off the plan he'd put together for the day.

"That all sounds good to me. Though I was hoping a day at the beach would have better weather than this to be honest. I'm ready to go whenever you are though." As he finally remembered to introduce himself, she light out a light giggle, which was echoed by Misdreavus. She reached out to shake his hand, adding "It's nice to meet you as well Oliver."

"Great! Let's get a move on before the weather gets any worse, then." With that, the group set out across the dunes, in search of sights to see and wildlife to greet. After a few moments, the Ranger turned to look back at his charge and the spirit beside her, only to stumble and nearly fall over. "Er, watch your step! The sand can be a lot more uneven than it, ah, looks." Eager to pave over the misstep, he pressed on with the conversation. "So! How did you get in the training circuit? Are one of these guys your starter? How'd you hear about the Park?" The last of those was required by his job to ask of all coming Trainers, but the rest carried a straightforward earnestness with them.

After a few more minutes, motion on the edge of his peripheral vision caught Oliver's eye. "Looks like we've finally got ourselves a little something," he murmured, more to himself than anything. As the distance lessened, it became clear that the creature was closing in on them nearly as quickly as they were towards it. With dogged determination, a powerful tail launched a proud red body high into the air over and over, a golden crown atop the creature, a fire raging behind its glaring eyes, ready to--

"Oh, it's just a Magikarp." Unfortunately, Oliver was entirely correct; the leaping fish before them was of the species commonly hailed as "the weakest Pokémon of all." Naturally, it was a well-known fact that a properly trained Magikarp would evolve into a force to be reckoned with, but even so, if one was looking for rare Pokémon, this wasn't that impressive a find. Turning to Thea as he halted, the Ranger posed a quick remark. "You know, it seems pretty fired up! Even so, if we pick up the pace a little we might be able to just go around it. Of course, unless you feel like giving one of these guys a little excitement," as he nodded in Misdreavus's direction. "And hey! Who wouldn't want a Gyarados? Just remember that if you capture anything, or if both of your 'Mons are out of commission, we'll have to cut the run short."
