    For once, it rains.

It starts gentle, as all spring rains do. Droplets pitter patter on the dry earth and parched red soil drinks greedily of the nourishing blessing. The sky gifts, and gifts, and then keeps on giving until the pleasant drizzle has turned into a torrential downpour. Ground takes, and takes, and takes, until it has bitten off more than it can chew. And then there are rivers on Deckbi, streams pouring down the mountainside. Currents wash away trails that Rangers have made use of for years, obliterating them as the rain rips down the mountain. Pokemon scatter into Deckbi's caves. Fire types nurse damp hides in the safety of the colossus' gut. Dark, chaotic clouds nest stubbornly over the area. It takes hours for them to crawl away.

By the time it begins to leave, the mountain is left a tall swamp.

Babbs and her Pokemon slough through the slush. The aptly-named Mudsdale plows through up the slope toward the squat mountain outpost that perches atop the hill. Combat boots and kimono have been replaced by something else for the first time--instead, the little old lady wears tall brown rain boots and a sunshine-yellow parka. The rain has let up to a drizzle, leaving a soft, remnant breeze tugs at the similarly-colored umbrella that she rests upon her shoulder. Droplets tap almost rhythmically on the plastic.

It's not a great day for a Deckbi run--this kind of weather is better-suited to the Lake, as the storms bring the water Pokemon celebrating to the surface. But if Trainers always waited for perfect weather in the Park, Babbs would be out of a job. Fortunately, the weather helps Babbs; the fire types of Deckbi almost always proved to be the most obnoxious. Weakening them would make her job considerably more easy. Mud was always easier to deal with than first degree burns, in her opinion.

Fabio guides them beneath the tiny, covered porch. The wood slats creak dangerously beneath his weight but hold as he steps into dry shelter. Mudsdale gives an indignant snort. He tosses matted mane to send water flying. Babbs chuckles and shields her eyes as she climbs off.

However the Trainer chose to get here, they'd been instructed to meet her here, at the outpost right before the gate. She's looking for a Grieger--Dirk Grieger, and she figures that the first soul she sees will be him. Nobody else would come out to the mountain after such a hard rain. She swings the gargantuan, taller-than-her hiker's backpack from her shoulders and rummages through it for a wide brush. Humming, she begins to groom the Mudsdale's damp fur while she waits, listening to the soft rain.

Now what were the odds of that? On Mount Deckbi of all places, rain. At first it was a pleasant surprise. A nice shower would surely cool things down on an outing to the active volcano. Though it seemed like the weather had other plans, namely catching up with an entire year’s quota of rainfall in a single day. Right on top of the head of an unsuspecting visitor, who was likely even less prepared than the wild Pokemon that called this place home.

The gentle shushing sound of the rain washing over the baking land gradually grew into dull roar. Steam rose, converting what was once a dry heat into a muggy, ground hugging fog so thick that it felt as though it could be cut with a knife. As uncomfortable as the humidity soon felt, neither that nor being drenched through to his skin was the greatest of obstacles to Dirk’s first outing. The trails would be broken as water thundered down over them as it sought to reach the ground. Where the water had no means of descending the mountain it would pool into basins of mud of untold depths. Did they really let ten year olds do this kind of adventuring for fun?
Regardless, the young man was born with a good head on his shoulders, and he fully intended to keep it right where it was. That meant using it. He would keep the Ranger he had signed up with waiting, but surely they would understand, right? The trick was making sure that when shelter was found that it was free of wild Pokemon. When it came to the task of seeking shelter however, the young man counted his blessings that he wasn’t alone. His Beldum, Proxy, upon picking up on how difficult it was becoming for its trainer to navigate was quick to employ the computing power cooped up in its mechanical brain to find a suitable spot nearby. Floating in front of the first time adventurer to get his attention, the steel type guided the trio into a shallow hole along the trail. Instinctively Dirk glanced over his shoulder to confirm the presence of the third member of their posse; a Milotic by the name of Sashimi. Sure enough she was not far behind, and certainly seemed to be enjoying the free range of movement that her recent evolution afforded her. “C’mon Slowpoke.” He called, teasing the serpentine Pokemon as she slithered along behind him. It wasn’t long until they were all huddled together, out of the rain and mud. He was absolutely soaked. His clothes clung to his body and his hair stuck flat to his head, artificially turned from brown to a jet black by the water that plummeted down from above. His Pokemon were in much better shape: being off of the ground Proxy simply gained a nice shine from the rain, and aside from tracking some dirt Sashimi looked to be having a great time. “Heh. Looks like I’m the fish out of water here.” He chuckled to himself. The immediate danger was averted, but he was still on a schedule. He hoped to the powers that be that the Ranger would understand. “Alright guys. The moment it starts to let up we’ll start climbing again.” He announced to the team. They may have had to rely on only being able to comprehend the gist of what one another were saying, but Dirk would always keep his partners informed.

At last the storm began to relent. Just as quickly as it had come, the roar of the water cascading down the mountain quietened. At the rate at which the rain was letting up it would be safe to climb again. No new rivers would spring up to whisk them off the mountain, nor new pools of mud to swallow up the unsuspecting travelers. The clouds made him ever so slightly wary, but the fact that he was late for an appointment made the decision for him. “Proxy, Sashimi, let’s get moving again.” He instructed, to which his partners were happy to oblige. Proxy had been fired up since it was announced that they’d finally be adventuring together and was beginning to grow anxious from simply sitting idle in a cave. Sashimi was of a similar mind, however she much preferred the opportunity to feel the rain on her scales again before the volcano returned to its hot and dry state. At least for the steel type’s sake, they might not be so likely to see any fire types along the way.
With a glance at his watch, Dirk concluded that it was time to get a move on, and they would need to be quick. The storm had gone and put them quite behind schedule. Against his better judgement he sped up to a jogging pace. Eagerly picking up on the increase in energy Proxy began his best bullet impersonation as he sped his way up the trail as well. And now it became a race. Not one out of competition, but a race to keep the headstrong Pokemon from getting out of sight and lost alone on the mountain. With a grumble of annoyance Dirk dug his heels into the softened earth and broke into a full run.
As it turned out, the first soul to greet Babbs would not be the trainer she was looking for, but rather a Pokemon that belonged to him. A small blue bullet appeared on the trail as it wound its way around the mountain into view. On and on it sped toward the elder and her partner. However, even when making a headlong dash up the mountain it was hard to miss the mass of Pokemon that was Mudsdale. The sight brought the Iron Ball Pokemon to a proverbial screeching halt. Now still, the steel type took a look around before gazing up at the ground type with its single eye. It stood still for a moment, blinking as it regarded the Ranger and Pokemon. “Beldum” it greeted in a tin-y voice that had a faint crackle to it not unlike listening to someone through an old radio. Moments later Dirk came stumbling behind the Pokemon. Running after Proxy was one thing, but running up a mountain with poor footing and oppressive humidity for who knows how long was a recipe for what felt like a punctured lung. Sashimi followed close behind the young man, concern in her eyes as she heard the haggard breaths that her trainer was taking. “Oh thank Arceus. Proxy!” He called, prompting his partner to turn back to address him. A moment later the trainer and water type joined the steel type at the outpost. “Er… Sorry we’re late.” He apologized to the woman after taking a few breaths to steady himself again. “I’m Dirk by the way. I assume you’re here to meet me?” He asked. “Sorry again, we were held up. There was the storm and… well, I’m sure you know.” He continued sheepishly, holding his side to nurse the stitch that had developed from his run.

She waits, and she waits, staring like she's engraved in stone out into the soft rain, hands folded over her cane and eyes nearly closed with the way she squints out into the drizzle. Fabio stands stoically beside her like a matching statue. The stallion eventually begins to doze, great head drooping.

Tiny pings of rain on metal stirs Babbs from her gargoyle state at the same moment it does Fabio. Mudsdale gives a snort as he spies a metallic blue figure whizzing up the mountain. Over the plink of the water on tough hide, Babbs and her companion hear a crackling cry from the one-eyed creature as it recognizes living lifeforms among the muck. A small smile touches her lips at the way the sound reminds her of her radio back at home.

Stumbling up the way comes her fated charge, as graceful as a Tauros in a tea shop. Hair darkened to a pitch black by the rain clings to his head in matted locks. Colors of his entire wardrobe prove dark and dreary as the moisture stains them into shadow. While his lack of motor skills proves impressive, he's put utterly to shame by elegant creature that slithers up through the mud beside him, snaking after her Trainer in a way that makes it look easy. Even the gunky, soppy earth has trouble clinging to her scales; despite the thick filth she slides though, lithe body still sports its brilliant blues and pinks as the dirt sheds right off of her.

He speaks, and she's glad that she hasn't had a solemn one for a while, now. A smile spreads across her face that would be warm enough to dry them both if it radiated heat as the joyous old woman greets him. "Hey, there, kiddo!" She churns to life and it's a wonder one doesn't hear her bones creaking as she stiffly shuffles from her stock-still position to introduce herself. "Nice to meet ya', Dirk. I'm Babbs, and this here is my handsome man, Fabio." On cue, the Mudsdale gives a cheeky snort. "Don't worry about being late--it's not like I'm getting any older!"

In the wake of the joke, she looks fondly over to the Beldum. "And you must be Proxy," she recalls, having heard the Trainer call out the creature's name earlier. Gaze wanders to the Milotic that tags along. "And this must be...?" Inquiry fades off as she reaches out from under the outpost's awning to give the Water type a fond little pat behind the trailing pink eyebrows and the naturally gentle entity leans with a lilting cry of content into the attention.

Regardless, she only waits a few moments for a response before moving on. "We'll need to get movin', it'll take longer to navigate in the mud. We'll be headin' for the caves." She begins to shuffle off the porch when she seems to suddenly look at him again, remembering that he's soaked to the bone. "Oh, hun, you'll get sick like that. Here..." She slings the pack off her back. It thuds onto the wooden slats with a startlingly-loud thud, like a bag of bricks has just been dropped onto the surface. She zips open the main pocket and reaches in, rummaging for a moment before tugging out a rain parka that matches hers, this one sporting a lovely, spring green.

"Put this on before the rain kills ya'," she orders gently but sternly. "We'll start a fire to get you dry once we get to the caves, start one here and we'll burn this rickety ole' shack right down." She zips the pack right up, and despite its apparent weight, lugs it easily back onto her shoulders. The woman picks her cane back up from where she'd propped it on the column and steps back down into the mud left by the rain. "Alrighty, let's get goin'! Stay close!"

Call it stereotyping, but in Dirk’s preoccupied mind there were two ways that this first impression could go down. He was soaked to the core, out of breath, in a slight amount of pain and frankly absolutely filthy. His hiking boots would probably never fully return to their natural burlap brown color and it was a miracle that the mud hadn’t gone and spilled into the boots themselves. From his effort, each pace kicked up flecks of mud which now dotted his attire and skin from the waist down, cargo shorts and legs alike. In comparison to his semi-waterproof partners, Dirk was already a mess. ...But seeing how he hadn’t yet been whacked over the head with the cane that the old woman grasped he could all but rule out one of the two personalities he’d been conditioned to expect. The stony faced expression the woman wore and the mountainous steed at her side had led him to expect a strict monastery sort that would readily thump him with the nearest wooden pole for keeping her waiting and showing up in his current condition. The kindly greeting assured the young man however, that there was nothing to fear.

Babbs, was it? Short and unique. This would be an easy name to commit to memory. He acknowledged the ranger with a warm smile and slight nod, as though to say ‘nice to meet you’ without interrupting her. And then there was the matter of Mudsdale. This was a species he’d never seen before, and frankly it was far grander in stature than anything else he’d encountered thus far. The ground type was a sturdy quadruped, and even on all fours it had a good two feet on him. He’d be lying if he said he wasn’t a little intimidated, which showed in how he took a half pace back as the Pokemon let out a snort. Dirk grimaced slightly in an attempt to give a smile, but it didn’t take long for said smile to become genuine. “He’s certainly is imposing.” He commented. “Big fella looks right at home on the mountain.” He added with a bit more conviction. A Pokemon like that could probably walk up the side of the mountain, let alone however much weight it could probably haul along with it. Once more he prepared himself to speak, getting the last of the formalities out of the way. He cut himself off however as Babbs spoke again, seeming to take a playful jab at his time of arrival. She had a sense of humor. Even better, this probably meant they’d get along just fine.
“That’s right.” Dirk confirmed with a smile as he affectionately cupped the sphere that was the steel type’s head in his hand, as though rubbing its chin. “Beldum!” The Pokemon crackled to return her greetings. “Oh, and this is Sashimi.” He introduced with a sweep of his arm as though to present his first partner. Sensing nothing but friendliness from the kindly old woman, Sashimi rumbled with a soft trill and nuzzled her sleek head into her outstretched hand. “And it would appear as though you've already found her favorite spot.” Dirk pointed out with a chuckle as he gauged his partner’s reaction. The serpent’s tail raised ever so slightly into the air and began to methodically wag from side to side. “Milooo.” The Pokemon crooned with delight.

Introductions had now officially came and passed as Babbs announced the transition to start the run. “Right!” The young man agreed, snapping to attention as his hands reached up to clutch the damp black straps of his own backpack. To commemorate the occasion he’d been given a few capsules with which to catch Pokemon and some medicine which he could only hope wasn’t ruined by the rain. He and his partners were ready and raring to go, but it seemed as though there was one more thing that Babbs wanted cleared up before they set out. “Oh?” Dirk asked, cocking his head at a slight angle, inquisitive at the interruption. A sound not unlike cinder blocks cracking over wood served as his explanation, the heavy thud causing Dirk and Sashimi both to flinch. At the kind gesture that followed, Dirk couldn’t help but smile. Reaching out to accept the garment, his eyes met the woman’s with warmth. “Of course. Thank you Babbs.” He replied gratefully. The water type looked just as pleased; her trainer was in good hands. Somewhat hurriedly, Dirk let his own knapsack drop onto the wooden porch as he slipped the parka on over his clothes. It was only when the occasional breeze whipped past that he’d realized that it could be chilly up on this mountain, and with the garment from Babbs he’d be protected from both the wind and the rain. With his head and arms pulled through the parka, Dirk reached for the bag that was now propped up by his Milotic’s strong tail and slid the straps over his shoulders, reaching out with his free hand to pat his assistant on the head. “All set and ready to head out.” He reported with a beaming smile. This was exciting; his first venture out into the world. At Babb’s instruction, Sashimi took up her post at Dirk’s left, and Proxy at his right, ever so slightly in front of the young man. Obediently, Dirk and co followed behind the woman and her Mudsdale as they made for their destination. “So what brings you up here Babbs?” Dirk asked, as though to make a bit of small talk as they journeyed along. “Do you like the location? Or do Rangers tend to take shifts at each outpost?”

Babbs cannot suppress the small chuckle that bubbles warmly from rasping throat as Fabio's snort gives the kid a bit of a jump. Hand raises to pat the broad plane of the stallion's damp neck. Dirk's forced smile quickly melts into something more genuine. It doesn't go unnoticed.

"He was the runt compared to his twin, if you'd believe it," she notes after his comment on Fabio's commanding presence. She reaches on tippy toes to give lowered chin a scratch. He snuffles, pleased. "Boy, did he outgrow them all, though." Babbs finalizes the affection with a firm pat on the neck again. "You're a sturdy old man, now, aren't'cha?"

She sees also the way he cups the Beldum's head. It was always interesting to see how people gave Steel types attention. Like Rock types, it was difficult to love on them--it was never very comfortable to lean on them, and newer Trainers were always unsure how much the harder types could feel through their tough hides. But Babbs had found that they commanded incredible nerve sensation in even the tips of their plates, incredibly in tune with the elements they wore. It's reassuring to see the hardy type treated with such gentle care.

"Sashimi," she repeats dutifully. The happy croon that warbles from the Water type is melodic, lilting in a way that reminds her of the way an opera singer uses vibrato. It was a rare creature, Milotic--she remembers when it was considered a myth, a hallucination of delirious soldiers near lakes and rivers. A combination of an influx of chaotic wars and the introduction of more affordable photography to lower classes finally brought them from myth to reality. She remembers the first time she'd seen one, as a little girl, one night out at a lake. It'd been one of the most enchanting moments of her life at the time.

Cheered, she hums as they finally set out. The rain has, for the most part, swept away the path most had taken, but she knows it by heart, just like she knows the rest of the Park. The old woman picks her way down the slippery slope with an almost eerie ease. Fabio edges carefully down behind her. His greater weight slips on less stable spots, sending waves of mud down when he has to dig his hooves in to stop himself. He seems to stick close to Dirk's side, always tossing glances back, as if to watch in case he fell.

The cave is visible the moment that they start down, immediately in front of them at the bottom of the slope where the ranger outpost is perched. Shadowed maw awaits them quietly down below. Rain pitter-patters softly on their coats and off of Proxy's steel.

"Oh, well, we usually just use the outposts as a place to meet Trainers, so I head up here while they give you the rundown of the rules and such," she informs as they near. "We put Rangers here if something's wrong, though, to keep an eye on things." She pauses outside of the cave. Babbs waits a moment, listening, before she deems it safe to go in for now.

"We'll work on a fire," she decides as they step in. The Ranger swings her pack down onto the ground. Its thud echoes almost jarringly through the cave. Echoes fade to silence only after a few seconds, hinting at the enormity of the cave system. Hand still on the strap, she hesitates again. "Shhh..." she cautions, then cups one hand to her ear.

Sound of shifting dirt slowly begins to ripple back toward them. Gaze turns back to Dirk. "Well, somethin's a-waitin', I'd go see what."

As someone who had put forward the considerable effort required to raise a Feebas, Dirk knew quite well the full extent of the transformations that Pokemon were capable of going through. Naturally this experience covered the changes both over the course of their life and over the more short term yet more extreme process of evolution. Yet by no stretch of his imagination could he conjure up the mental image of the ground type that walked along beside him ever once being small. Surely it seemed like an exaggeration, but given Dirk’s experience with Pokemon thus far, this Mudsdale was as big as they come. Aside from the first impression of the creature he felt a comforting vibe from the great beast that was not unlike the one he received from Babbs; Fabio was a gentle giant. “I’ll take your word for it.” The young man replied in a warm fashion, coupled with a good natured chuckle. It just went to show what a generous amount of love, care, attention- and probably good eating- could do as far as growing up big and strong was concerned.

The way that the elder admired his companions did not escape his notice however. If this ranger with the amount of experience she no doubt had under her belt- who could raise a Pokemon like the majestic goliath that strode along the muddy paths without strain- found something that caught her interest in his Pokemon and himself then clearly he must have been doing something right. Today may have gotten off to a rather rocky start- what with the torrential downpour and all- but now he felt reinvigorated. It showed in his behavior as well: for the moment Dirk was carrying himself a bit higher, his expression softening, appearing a bit warmer, more pleasant and inviting. All in spite of the muck he’d gone through and the race he’d endured to get here. If Babbs could find something special in him, then there was surely no harm in feeling proud of himself. The burst of optimism was shared with his partners as well, as evident with how he happily reached out to run a hand along their flanks as they passed one another back and forth over the duration their hike.
On the subject of said hike, it wasn’t long until the adventuring troupe began to cross over into less even terrain. This marked where the flash floods had worn away at the trails no doubt. Proxy and Sashimi drew in closer to their trainer both as a result of the narrowing pathways and in a bid to mitigate the risk of falling. A well founded concern, it would soon turn out, for as they climbed further, Dirk’s steps grew slower, and became less certain. He frequently found himself watching each time he put his foot down. The rainfall had made the ground loose, and all the way up here a fall would be the end of him. With proper reflexes he could call his Pokemon into the safety of a ball before disaster struck. Yet while Fabio spent his time worrying about the young man, Dirk was somewhat worried for Babbs. With one unfortunate footfall however, that particular concern promptly turned right around when the stone Dirk had stepped on turned out not to be as firmly set in place as he’d anticipated. It slid out from underneath him, scraping away a chunk of soil and letting several other stones fall away with, sending a small shower of pebbles skittering down the mountainside. Now with nothing beneath him, the young man nearly slipped only to reach out on reflex alone to grab at Fabio’s side as his only means of avoiding following the example of the pebble before him. With a gasp of surprise and a few breaths to steady himself Dirk was back to safety. “Thanks big guy.” He told the ground type gratefully. From now on he’d be hugging the rock wall as he proceeded. “I see why you guys are the ones to take people on runs out here.” He pointed out with a sheepish laugh. On to the caves then. Not being on the side of a mountain sounded pretty nice right about now.

On a similar note, the more times building a fire was mentioned the more enticing the concept sounded. He’d dried off a little bit- as much as one can manage with the rain still lazily tumbling down- but nothing would do the trick quite like shelter and the heat of the fire could. “A campfire sounds lovely. Leave it to me to forget both an umbrella and a bag of marshmallows.” He agreed, tacking on the last part in jest. It may have been a joke, but perhaps he’d follow up on it if he ever wound up on a run that was scheduled to go overnight. That was, if they offered such a thing. Anyways, if he learned one thing on this run so far it was probably that he should remain focused. Milo-oo!” His serpentine companion warned to match Babbs as the ground before them was disturbed. A wild Pokemon most likely, which meant it was time to get serious. Dirk’s heart began to pound in a combination of excitement and anticipation. He’d sparred with trainers before, but this was the real deal. Reaching into his pocket he palmed one of the Park Balls he’d been provided and held it at the ready. He didn’t know what he would even be fighting yet, but there was no such thing as over prepared. “Alright Proxy, we’ve might have a battle on our hands.” The trainer announced, his stance sinking ever so slightly as though preparing to leap away should an attack come in his direction. Sashimi slithered to his side, raising her tail protectively between Dirk and the disturbance. Knowing the graceful Pokemon this was most likely an attempt to use intimidation instead of heading straight for combat. “Sashimi and I will handle this one, so get those scanners ready. The next one will be all yours.” He explained, assuring the antsy steel type that it would get it’s chance soon enough.

(( Hi, lovely, thank you for your patience during my finals. Much love, having so much fun and have been wishing I could reply. <3 ))

Fabio gives a nervous whicker, the in-tune creature proving unnerved by the way his hooves can feel the shifting earth. Babbs withdraws him, not wanting him to be an interference, while also trusting her charge to deal with the situation on his own. Kind eyes turn back to watch the boy as he decides that the Milotic will be his handler of choice for this affair. The snake-like creature pulls up before him, beautiful fan spreading as she poises, prepared to defend her Trainer. Calmly, Babbs diverts her focus and rummages through her backpack, seeking the starter logs she knew she had in here somewhere...

Darkness veils the furrow in the earth until nearly the last moment. The line of disrupted dirt streaks directly toward the pair. It moves at a surprising speed, but both are prepared--Dirk jumps out of the way, and his Pokemon slithers gracefully to the side. Their movements come just in time. The ground erupts in a plume of damp mud that explodes upward and outward in all directions, soaking them all further with mud. Babbs notices and ducks her head away just in time to keep mud from smacking straight into her eyes. The gunk soars over her head and splats wetly down on the dry spot she'd been trying to make the fire. Small huff leaves her as she picks up her backpack and shuffles to the side of the cave. They'd need a fire to get Dirk dry--and soon--but with this pesky creature, it'd be impossible.

The small, mole-like creature pops up where she'd sought to begin to pit, as if taunting her. Several small, blonde hairs bob upon its head. Beady black eyes find his quarry once more, putting a visual to the slithering creature it feels sliding all over its earth. Sashimi gives a small cry of "mil-oooo!" before her head jerks forward. Small mouth parts to spew a small stream of water onto the Ground-type's head. The Alolan Diglett gives a squeak as the Water Gun hits it in the face, quickly darting back down below! Its dirt furrow streaks around them in the beginning of a wide circle, trying to get an edge by approaching from the side!

Doing his best to remain alert and attentive for the coming encounter, Dirk’s eyes wandered, flicking to the edge of his vision time and again to regard the agitated Mudsdale. If whatever was burrowing beneath cave floor was enough to startle the mountainous beast, should he be concerned as well? Judging by the size of the bulging beneath the ground as the creature went along, it wasn’t particularly large. For the most part- using what he knew regarding the fauna of the National Park- that suggested little threat, but the reactions from Babbs and her accompanying Pokemon put him on edge again. It’s not a threat. Dirk assured himself, hoping he was correct. She’s just taking care of her own business.

With Sashimi planted firmly between himself and the threat that was the wild Pokemon, Dirk felt no reason to get all worked up. Once the trail of disturbed earth drew within range, the Pokemon and trainer pair braced themselves for an attack. Whatever it was, it didn’t appear to be stopping, so the two separated using their own methods of locomotion; the swift flowing slithering of Sashimi putting her trainer to shame once more as he simply lept to the cave wall. Safely out of range once more, Dirk then scanned his eyes over the ground in hopes of setting his sights on their target again, only for he and his two companions to jump in surprise as the sound of a bang rocks their former shelter, followed by the splattering of mud. A soft groan escapes the young man’s lips as mud splatters on his shirt now to match his shoes and shorts. Turns out hunting for Pokemon was not a clean job in the least. He’d have to ask for a Water Gun from Sashimi later to hose him off. Being wet was better than being dirty in his eyes.
Another soft rumble marks the creature finally emerging from the ground. It definitely didn’t look threatening. In fact the little mole like creature was actually rather cute. It was in the middle of stirring up trouble however, and needed to be driven off. Dirk was prepared to give an order to his companion but it looked like the serpent was already on top of it. The Water Gun served as an aquatic warning shot; Dirk of all people knew full well that she had several more potent options available when it came to fighting, but preferred to save them for emergencies.

Just as quickly as it had surfaced, the ground type was out of sight again. Only this time Dirk and Sashimi had a lock on it, hopefully ready for the next trick up it might have had up its sleeves. Sashimi was clearly in defensive mode, that much was evident with the pristine fan like scales upon her tail were splayed wide and held aloft. The Pokemon slithered in her own arc around her trainer in a bid to cut off the the approach of their opponent. This was a battle between the two of them, and if they were going to fight then she was going to keep others from getting swept up in it as well.

Meanwhile the gears in Dirk’s head were turning. It didn’t make sense to attack as long as the Diglett was below the ground. “Alright Sashimi. When it pops back up, hit it with a Hydro- hm.” He paused, cutting himself off. They had the type advantage here, but there were several factors which would make that particular attack ill-advised. For starters, he knew Sashimi preferred to keep the big guns held back, and secondly throwing water moves about wildly in this cave would risk making it impossible to get another fire going in the future. “Actually… just Coil for now. We’ll be ready when it comes back.” He advised. For now they’d fortify their defenses, being ready with a more precise strike when the Diglett resurfaced.
Already firmly in place between the attacker and her companions, the serpentine Pokemon would likely have no problem with such an order. Her tail drew in more tightly, and wound back into a spring like coil. She’d be a smaller target this way, and be fully ready to lash out with another warning shot when the time came. Once around, twice, and then three times is when Sashimi found it to be satisfactory. The final result was a rather loose, but still defensive stance giving her ample slack to maneuver her head and tail. Through the course of the positioning move, never once did the water type let her tail relax however, and she kept the fan held high like a mother threatening a predator that might seek to harm her children, peircing eyes zeroed in on the trail below the ground. A soft rumble rippled through her serpentine form and into the ground. The water type wasn’t a violent soul, but she certainly was protective. “Great work.” Dirk praised his companion. Next matter of business was thinking of an attack that could capitalize on their type advantage without spraying water all over the place. “While you’re at it, let’s get ready for it with an Aqua Tail!” He added.

The water type glanced behind her for a moment to regard her trainer’s request. With a slight nod she began to focus. Then, with a gentle rattle, water began condense upon the shimmering, prismatic scales of her tail. It built up for a moment, before streams of water separated themselves from the Pokemon, now suspended in the air and wrapped around Sashimi like transparent ribbons.

O.O.C.: If that winds up being too much for a single post, we can call the Coil strategic positioning instead of an actual move. Glad to have you back by the way :)

Digletts are usual fare in Mt. Deckbi--if Babbs had a lottery ticket for every one she'd seen in her time in the Park, she'd have won eight times over by now. However, not matter their size, the woman had learned to never estimate the little moles. The nastiest of surprises always came springing from the tiniest of packages, and in Babbs' experience, the Diglett gave Trainers more problems than two of most larger creatures combined. They were fast, flighty, and stealthy once they'd received a few punishing blows that reminded them to hide their trails. Fortunately, the Pokemon had short-term memories, and she hopes that they dispatch this one before it remembers.

The elegant serpent is a creature to behold. Sashimi flows like water across the cave as she dodges, then prepares herself for the next assault. She trills lightly with agitation as they lock onto the Diglett as it rounds back. Babbs gives a small nod of approval when the Trainer remembers his companion's nature--and their close quarters--and recalls his near-order for a Hydro Pump, replacing it with a defensive Coil. The Miltoic curls obediently into action, minimizing the space her scaly form occupies. Tail swishes as it fans to guard herself, muscles bunching in preparation to strike as she receives her second order.

As her opponent nears, Sashimi pulls back her tail like a batter preparing to swing, preparing to lead her shot in time with how fast the creature was approaching. The duo does everything right, but the Diglett quickly shoes itself as a force not to be underestimated when at the last moment, it speeds up suddenly, and before the Milotic can react through her surprise or move out of the way, the little mole pops up right beneath her coiled body in an unexpected Sucker Punch! Despite being winded by the assault, Sashimi recovers quickly, snaking out of the way just enough to bring water-engulfed tail down on top of the mole before it can go back under!

After a stunned pause beneath the earth, a trail is seen streaking away, then curving back again, faster than the last. However, this time, an even faster line of Earth Powers begin to erupt in punishing plumes out in front of it, speeding forward as if it rolls out an earthy carpet of chaos for the attacking Diglett to follow!
