Well, not sure if much people have realised noticed but there seems to be more and more people leaving the URPG lately-- yeah, it's going to happen to everyone eventually but still. There also seems to be less and less newer people joining and sticking with it. This may have always been the case but it really seems to be taking it's toll now, a year after it came to BMGf. A lot of people seem to only have time for their Gym (obviously only applying to Gym Leaders), and possibly some other small projects/stories Nationa Park runs/whatever.

What I've gathered is that people on BMG know about the URPG but that's itreally. Other than when it first came here, nothing has really been done to encourage or inform the thousands of members here. Simple things like blogs, announcements and/or people just chatting on various threads could boost the population.

I don't know if everyone would be game for this though. Perhaps people like the smaller amounts of people?

one thing that is off putting to many members is their reluctancy or inability to download AIM, those who stick to the forums and don't get AIM are the ones that come and go, but of course there's nothing we can do about that, so live and let die.

Although there isn't much publicity for URPG, We could put a link in our sig but most people in the URPG don't post anywhere else on the forums, so that won't do much.

I quite like it when it's a small group of people, makes it more sociable than the rest of the forums. But it wouldn't hurt to have a few more active members. Although we don't want to shove it down their throats

I think Fawkes is right the majority of people, myself included, if active in URPG aren't active elsewhere in the forums thus the information doesn't spread.

I also accept the large activity of URPG on AIM is probably also a contributor to its own downfall. Getting the information out there is one thing but there is nothing to suggest that newer members will stick with it. To be honest there wasn't as big an intake of members at the start of BW as expected and I can't honestly see any particularly big event (outside of URPG) happening to draw in new members.

Its a shame, but I have a feeling the active population will drop further before it rises again. I have a feeling though that a lot of the people that leave will at somepoint return and a small increase in activity will occur.

The URPG's always been like this - I think quite a few BMGers had it in their minds that the amount of members that came with the initial implementation was the usual. Heck, no, it was just the novelty of having a new thing on BMG that brought most of them. As soon as the novelty wore off, only the people genuinely interested stayed. I think any sort of recruitment drive would have the same effect.

The URPG isn't exclusive to AIM, btw. The IRC, MSN, Yahoo!, and any other instant messaging software can be used - so long as a ref is there to ref it, it's alright. I think I remember someone saying they had a battle over X-Box Live once?

Makes me think Pidge was right when he was promoting IRC at the beginning of URPG's stay on BMG... I remember we did some kind of event, maybe it was an auction, on the IRC built into BMG... maybe we should promote the utilization of that more strongly?

There are quite a few events hosted on it from time to time. The thing is, though, you have to type that you want to join the IRC chat for URPG. To get the code thing, where do you have to go? The URPG Forum.

So, it's sort of suckish that we can't really use the IRC to promote URPG. If there were a way to access it without having to type it in, that could help.

I was just commenting on its ease of use for people who don't want to download AIM.

You don't need to download AIM and it requires no effort, really. AIM Express and Ebuddy don't need to be downloaded. Same with Trilian and meebo, I think.
