When I first joined the URPG, the limits placed on forum battles made perfect sense to me; 3 concurrent battles if you had access to AIM, and 5 if you didn't. The presumption was that people with AIM would get most battles done there, and in the early days this held true.

Now, though, I have serious trouble finding a ref on AIM; I've had to rely much more on the forum battles for my evolution battles. Several times, now, I've tried for hours in a row- usually 2 or 3- waiting for an AIM ref with two or three other interested battlers.

What I propose is that we increase - until there's a greater supply of Refs or they finish finals and become available - is increasing the forum battles allowed to 4 for people with AIM. This allows things to progress a little faster, but doesn't flood the forum overtaxing the refs working there. (Mostly I just see Ataro, but I'm sure others do it as well)

I'm open to suggestions; I understand reffing can be complicated, and it's something I don't have the affinity - nor desire - to do myself, and I appreciate that refs have real lives too, and as such aren't available every waking minute. This is just my suggestion to try and ease the burden on me personally, and others who may be in the same situation as I am.

If there is a forum battle limit of three on players that have access to AIM, it hasn't been enforced, because I know I've been in more than three at a time.

There is some dispute over this, but im pretty sure its 5 if you dont have AIM, and 3 if u do, but some ppl think it is 3-1.

As for the original question, i personally think 3 battles at a time is fine on the forum. occasionally ive had difficulty finding a ref(once when there were like 12 online) but usually if you ask around you'll find one in my opinion.

I found this, so this is probably why people think it is 3-1. Thread is here:

A decent suggestion, and certainly one worth consideration.

You're right that we're experiencing a ref shortage, especially considering the number of people that have joined the URPG in the short period of time. This also translates into a ref shortage for forum battles as well. If it weren't for Ataro and a few other dedicated refs, we would surely be falling behind in that realm as well.

Increasing the forum battle limit puts an increased strain on the refs who are already are working at a pace that has been unheard of in the URPG. I am a little hesitant to put an increased load on them until we solve the initial problem. In other words, we need to hire new refs.

We already have a wonderful program, lead by Scourge, in training new referees and already quite a few have passed the test. I would like to encourage other members to sign up as well and help the URPG if they wish to.

It's true that refs will have more time during the summer months, and many are still in school. While certainly that might alleviate some of the stress on the system, I think the better long term solution is simply training more members and advancing them.

Another interesting, though less related topic, might be that we need to start introducing other methods of participation in the URPG such as our Worlds RP Section. Places where people can have fun outside of battling.

it's 5 at one time for forum battles, there actually is no limit for AIM as it is never enforced, literally.

I always figured it was much like trainer stats; it was based on the honor system, and we'd be responsible to hold ourselves to it.

Besides, if mods had to run around and make sure everyone dotted every I and crossed every T, that'd be even fewer refs and graders.

I like how your "I" and "T" didn't have to be either dotted or crossed in your post, just made me giggle.

i think peoples time zone should also be taken into account. im in GMT and there are hardly any refs or even battlers online throughout the whole day, only at like 11 or 10PM do people start to come online, and that would limit how much people can battle on AIM.

If what your suggesting HKim is that we enable battlers to evolve their Pokemon through Ultra RP, I don't think that it si going to happen anytime soon. Although a workable idea, it would involve the effort and finesse that I don't theink the mods can handle currently.

    Nobody was suggesting that :banghead:

Anyway, I think the best solution for this is something that I have said time and time again... You guys should take the ref quiz/test. Just do it. I remember countless times when you guys will complain about there not being enough active refs or refs that will actually ref some battles. Do something about it. Quite frankly, its disturbing that among the 100+ members that joined (I remember that the first day there were 80+ people just viewing the URPG board) that only 3 of you guys have become refs. One of those 3 isn't even active anymore. Come on, refs are like the blood of URPG... we need some donors. :saiyan:

@[email protected], this thread is old, so thanks, Tyranitex, for reviving it because this issue is a definite problem at the moment.

Now there are plenty of refs, anyone with any problem with that must be out of their mind.
