This is just an idea I had, and I don't know whether it's sensible or not. I just hope this is the right place to post this, and that I'm not copying anyone...

Anyway, I have an idea for a new kind of competition that the URPG people could organize. Basically, people compete through making up a new move. This move would come with power levels, effects, how different Pokemon can learn it and whatnot. Part of the submission would also be a drawing of that move being used by the Pokemon.

Picking a winning move would be based on the move's coolness, whether it is significantly different from other moves, how well it fits the Pokemon that use it, and how balanced it is (not weak, but not an OP move). After the competition, the winner would get a free HM of the move and the move would then subsequently become available as a TM. I do realize that the addition of these custom moves would probably make the battling system more difficult, but I really do think that overall this would add a unique and exciting flair to URPG that I haven't seen anywhere else. So, what do you think?

Just my 2 cents here, but I personally am reluctant to the idea that we'd be able to teach our Pokémon "unofficial" moves, because then it would feel like we're battling with Hack/Fakemons. I mean, here in URPG you already have access to all the moves your Pokémon is able to learn, and there's always new generations to expand on movepools, so why add custom moves? I mean, having a contest for this is okay I guess, but making the winning move actually usable battle-wise is a bit much.

First of all, welcome to URPG!

To answer your inquiry, I'll post a simple response. Essentially, we as a community and as a staff have tossed around the idea of adding new Pokemon and moves to URPG for quite a while, but we generally decided against it. To be honestly, the staff simply doesn't see it working into URPG's system, and, though it's definitely a cool idea, it's unlikely that it could be implemented.

Player-created moves aren't entirely out of the question - many FFA's have used this tactic to create some incredibly fun games. However, it is unlikely that we would be able to incorporate this move into URPG's competitive metagame. Special events to utilize these fan-made moves are actually viable activities. Regardless, they probably can't be included into the battling scene.

If you wanted to discuss the potential events where a fan-made move could be used, feel free! However, I still think that it is unlikely that a TM would be built into the competitive scene.

I hope that answered your question!

Oh okay, that makes perfect sense! Now that I think again about it, I realize that URPG really doesn't need player-created moves as part of its battling system. I have always thought that what makes a Pokemon game site truly unique and enthralling is how it deviates from the Pokemon universe's rules. Some sites add Fakemon, some sites create new Pokemon colourations, but I have never seen a site which uses new moves. However, now that I have truly reviewed my thinking and this site, I realize that as an RP, URPG is different from all the Pokemon game sites I have joined in the past. Unlike the game sites such as Pokefarm and GPX+, URPG does not need anything like these unique moves because its game allows for the imagining of a whole Pokemon world, instead of mere facets like breeding and battling that other sites encompass. This in itself is more than enough complexity to make URPG a success, as I guess is evidenced by its large number of users and long life.

Basically, the long and short of it is that I would like to say thank you for your very timely and fully helpful reply. It feels very good to know that the staff here are very involved, helpful and kind. I am only very new here, but I can already tell that I'm going to be here for a long time!

Just on this note, you can have whatever colouration for your Pokemon you want. Some people even create their own custom sprites with little features which they add to their stats pages to add a bit of individuality to their Pokemon - I remember I originally had an Ambipom with blue hands!

If you want to try and experiment with Pokemon and their moves, feel free to check out the National Park - you can perform all kinds of cool combinations and reimaginings there :)
