For as long as we can remember, the URPG has acted on a dual-currency system: One to buy contest-related items, and the other to purchase everything else. This has led to those that focus on contests being unable to use their accumulated wealth to get into battling, and the opposite also being true. This means that URPG goers have often had to choose one to focus on, and with battling being much more popular, it has led to the decline of contests.

    No longer!

I propose a merger of the two currency types. That's it. Thoughts?

Contest credit was an attempt to give people a reason to contest. Since battling is the more popular option (with good reason), why bother doing contests to get money if you can just battle?

Well, I don't see how contest credits give people a reason to do contests. I mean, sure, you can buy Pokemon with contest credits that you can't buy with regular currency. But you can't buy moves, and for contests, I'd think having lots of moves would be really useful! You can buy berries, but they have battle uses too, so why can't people who just want to battle buy them? Same with these Pokemon- why is buying them restricted to only people who do contests?

I see the reasoning. I see why you would think that having two currency types would give people more of a reason to do contests. However, from my perspective, I see this as a detrimental thing. Making it so that regular currency can't be used to get into contests makes it a daunting thing for battlers to try out contests. Most people on here battle regularly, and to my knowledge, few people on here do contests regularly. This is probably in part due to them knowing that what you get from contests can't be as easily used to help you battle.

If both currencies became one, contests would become more accessible to battlers. If you want to try and draw people to contests with contests-exclusive Pokemon purchases, keep the ribbon requirements! But let the battlers use their hard-earned money to get some Pokeblocks or berries when they try a contest.

tl;dr: Having contest credits makes it harder for people to get into contests, even with the credits you get as a new Trainer. Battlers could get into contests more if they could use regular currency to purchase contest stuff.

Battlers CAN spend normal money on Pokeblocks and berries. Contest credits only provide exclusive purchases such as the Pokemon you mentioned.

However, Pokeblocks give contest stats which NEVER get used because the formula is broken. Perfect stats = free points. And battlers don't buy contest berries, they buy Lums and the type-resist berries.

OHHHHHH!!! Sorry about that, huge mistake on my part :p

Wait, so you're telling me contest credits are ONLY specifically useful for buying these Pokemon? So we have a whole second currency that only gets used for buying Pokemon that you could just get people to write for you? Well, then I absolutely fail to see the purpose of contest credits at all!

You can still use them to purchase the contest Pokeblocks and berries too, however people usually don't.

I fail to see the purpose of Contests, but that's not really helpful anyway. Contests do need work though, so your thoughts are useful.

Thank you! You really helped me see this issue much more clearly. I only hope that in some way, it ends up helping the URPG community.

To be honest, I'm out of things to say on this issue. If anyone else has an opinion, I'd love to hear it. I'll create a poll, just to see if we can figure out what people think on this issue.
