during the recent FFA, I had the Idea that maybe we could bet on tourny battles and Gym battles (if people announce a challenge before it happens). Any battles forfeited before they begin, money would be returned. the idea obviously needs some fine tuning but I was wondering what people think of it.

Betting on cockfighting. Felony offense in forty-nine of the fifty United States. I approve.

I don't like it. Being able to guess or pick who will win isn't something that seems rewardable.

Not to mention the ease of rigging such combats.

I've had this idea as well. It could work like wager matches from COD: Black Ops, but as stated above, it would be too easy to rig the matches. As much teaming that goes on in FFAs, it seems like people could fix the battles far too easily. I suppose if there was a way to eliminate cheating, I would be in favor. Sadly, I don't have an idea to contribute as far as fixing the cheating problem. Any suggestions?

If you can't bet on your own matches, there isn't much to gain from losing a match, unless people are going to give you gift station gifts. If we put a maximum amount on how much can be bet, It just wouldn't be worth rigging

If you're dealing with amounts of money that aren't worth rigging, then you're dealing with amounts of money that aren't worth betting in the first place.

Not really, a 3 or 4k bet can make a fair bit of money but is unlikely to pay for a bribe to someone (unless its like 101:1 odds)

You can't pay a bribe anyway, there's no way to just deliberately give someone money.

I think you're overreacting on this whole rigging thing. It should only be for battles like tourney finals or E4, and who is going to throw those battles? Betting on normal battles is just dumb + it should be pretty clear if somebody is throwing the battle. :nono:

I agree with Haze. E4, Champion, Tourney finals/semifinals, that fifth orange gym, should be the only battles that you could wager on. Definitely no on FFAs. That's stupid. =/

Yeah, this would be a load of fun to take part in! And yeah, only special battles should allowed to be betted on.
But how do you make the bets? Do you post in a thread or something? And do you lose money if the battle doesn't go the way you expected?

Still, bets on champion and tourny finals would be good, it'd push the urpg in a new direction

E4 does reset your progress tho if you challenge. And if you're gonna throw an E4 match you should be an e4 member. =/

A thread. You can bet as much as you'd like. If you're right, you'd get the same percentage of how much you bet out of the total. (Ex: you bet 5k or 20k on the winner. Overall 50k was bet, since 5k is 25% of 20k you'd get 25% of 50k which is 12.5k and round it to the nearest .5k) and if you're wrong you get nothing. Idk about odds. Seems too hard to come up with.

no, you need to get more money for betting on the less popular choice. maybe you take lemans formula and multiply by 1.2 if you choice had less votes and by 0.8 if it had more.

Unless leman means 5k of 20k not 5k or 20k in which case his formula is perfect.

I'm sorry to say that this idea has been brought up about once every year since I've been active in the URPG, and each time it got shot down.

    Why?

'Cause it's another way to get money without working for it. And if there's one principle the URPG stands on, it's that you need to work for what you get.

Ofcourse, exceptions can be made for super duper rare stuff, but even then it's questionable if bets will be allowed.
