This was rushed, so not a lot of specific advice. Some general stuff for all of you, though: Be sure to say not just, “I hope you improve this next time,” but give them some idea of what they could do to do better. If you think they can improve their plot, don’t just say, “your plot could have been more complicated.” Ask them questions. Could you have created a conflict between the main characters? Could there have been a hitch in the capture process that lead to growth and discovery? If you want them to have details, don’t just say “describe ___.” Tell them how they could describe that, and what sort of details are important. If it’s a tree, the bark probably doesn’t matter all that much—but the fact that it looms massively over you, casts shadows on the ground, and steals all the light from the plants struggling to survive on the forest floor could be pretty relevant to the story. Et cetera et cetera.
