Keep in mind anime stats too--Venonat in the show wasn't that big. There can also be variants, young mons, etc to account for size differences too (although size is indeed important sometimes).

Remember remember some more positives! My challenge to you is to find one big thing to talk the artist up about in every piece--and really elaborate a bit on it. Let them know what they do well so they can capitalize on that and do that more too.
