    PE2K Thread: http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3299834

What kind of format would you like to be used in the next tournament?

Bracket - This is the style you are probably most familiar with. Players are randomly paired to play each other. The winners of each pair move on to the next round, in which they are paired again. This continues until a winner is decided. Double elimination is possible.

Ladder - Players can challenge any other player in the tournament. Challenges can't be denied. Winning results in more points than losing. Winning against a player with more points may also giving you more points than compared to someone with less points. The number of times you can challenge a single player in a certain amount of time will be limited. Whoever has the most points in a set amount of time is the winner of the whole tournament.

Combination - The top x amount of players in the end of a Ladder will be seeded into a Bracket.

The finer details of each kind of format can be worked out later.

I think combining both styles is a nice idea. Though the only thing I have against Ladder battles is, it kind of depends of how active you are in the URPG or how much time you have available for battling (for both AIM and forum). That wouldn't be a problem for those who are summer vacation - no school or work to disturb them. Totally different in my case, but you don't care about that. Just my opinion ^^

That's a good point. You also may be at a disadvantage if you are in the wrong time zone.

To add on, I think a disadvantage of Brackets are that they might match up the two best players very early, even though if they had different opponents they would make it to the final round. Double elimination brackets sort of fix this, though.

Yes because we all want to travel to Pegasus' castle for winning.

I prefer the combination idea, tbh.

    I have a similar idea.

    A Similar Idea

Actually, I like the star chip idea. That way better people would attack people who suck until the younger people are out, before battling each other. It's more fair that way, AND it'll be something new, so it'll be fun to try out. :b

Bracket, because imo Ladder favors activity over actual battling experience sometimes (thus defeating the purpose of having a tournament), and the preference towards activity level could also prove to be a problem at this particular time of the year. Some people are out of school, while some people are still studying hard for finals and such. The contrast is noticeable, and will make a definite impact on the results.

More or less, that's a ladder style. Vote for that if you want it that way.

It's kind of a ladder style, but you also have to lose your "star chips" to get out right? In ladder, you just don't get points if you don't battle. In this, you won't lose unless you battle. But that's kind of a downside, because we'd have to have ways to force people to battle at some point or it'd never end.

We would just make it so once X amount of players get X amount of Star Chips the players would advance to the next round or win the tournament. Or whatever.

That still disadvantages less active players since they'd have to be on a lot to challenge people in time to get enough chips, before others do. But that's kinda how it already works anyway.

Experienced people are usually better, which is why they win. Which is... the point of having any kind of competition. :X
