I walked out onto the field and released my Ralts from its' Pokeball.

"Now, remember what we talked about," I said. "Edit the strategy, and no matter what happens you will do well."

We waited for the opponent to appear.

If Jathan were paying attention, he would notice a flash of red on the horizon, betraying Dianne's last-minute attempt to inform Aurora of whatever strategy she may have thought up. Between the conference's last minute nature and the speed in which it was finished, Dianne clearly hadn't thought of something very complicated.

"We meet again," she said, smiling as she entered the field. She held her Shellder in her arms, though Dianne didn't put forth special effort to make the ride smooth. If Aurora was uncomfortable, though, she gave no sign-- except possibly letting her tongue hang out.

Dianne set the Shellder on the field, and stepped back with her hands on her hips. "You can go first. Maybe that'll be the advantage you didn't have last time."

Damn, Jathan thought. There goes the advantage of surprise.

But he answered, "Sure." He could always edit the plan as the battle progressed.

"Okay, Ralts, start off with a Psychic!"

[[ Good luck with the ranger thing, by the way. ]]

Dianne's fake courtesy had left a smile on her face; now, she winced inwardly. Psychic was strong enough that it could have been the deciding factor during the last battle, and Dianne didn't want to deal with it now. "Aurora, it's gambling time! Supersonic!"

Almost before she finished her sentence, Dianne clamped her hands over her ears. On the battleground, Aurora began her attack. The voice of a Shellder is seldom heard; it is not smooth, melodic, or pleasing to the ear in any way. This was clearly evident as Aurora screeched with all her might, a grating sound that even Dianne's plugged ears found unpleasant.

If all went well, the sound would cause damage to Ralts' concentration, keeping it from landing future attacks.

"Don't let it go without a hit, Aurora! Hit it with an ice beam!" Dianne ordered. The Shellder obeyed as quickly as she could, though she was slightly disoriented because of the psychic attack.

Dianne stared, dumbfounded, as Aurora fainted before she could finish forming her beam. Though Dianne had realized that luck would be a large factor in this battle, she hadn't thought it would be so thoroughly on Jathan's side.

Recalling her Shellder, she swallowed her pride much more easily than she had expected. Both Jathan and Ralts had grown on her since their last meeting. She hadn't thought about them much after defeating them during the last battle; however, their willingness to challenge Dianne again despite a loss impressed her, and their good nature during both the arrangement and the fight had showcased many of their good qualities. "Good game," Dianne said, finding that she actually meant it.

(OOC: Well, I would like to point out that you've won almost all the turn-order rolls in both battles, so knowing my luck, being Frozen was very possible

And sure, I'll shoot you a VM when my results get in)

I grinned and lifted Ralts high into the air, swinging him around and he chirruped loudly and repeatedly.

But I stopped before too long, so I wouldn't look rude.

"Good game," Dianne said.

"Sure was," I said, grinning. "Ralts and Aurora are pretty close to perfectly matched."

As I said this, Ralts started glowing white. The white glow shifted and morphed, and then emitted a white flash.

When my vision cleared, I saw that Ralts had evolved into a Kirlia.

"Well, they were," I quipped.

(OOC: Yeah, thanks for reffing, Ataro. Do you need to confirm my evolution or something?

And also, I just noticed that I have a real problem with swapping between 1st and 3rd person :X)

 

The white glow from Ralts nearly blinded Dianne as well; she put a hand up to shield her eyes while the evolution took place. It was an oddly flattering feeling, being one of the people to catalzye an evolution.

"Well, they were."

"Right, were," Dianne said, dropping her hand now that the light had faded. "Looks like you have a head start on this one, but I'll definitely catch up to you soon." Without waiting for acknowledgment, Dianne began to walk purposefully away from the field. If she was going to get on the same level as Jathan and Kirlia, she'd have to start working immediately.
