A plain Poké Ball bounced off of the ground, splitting open to unleash the creature inside. There was a flash of light, and Willow the Duskull floated up from inside the two halves of the ball. He drifted wearily for a second, analysing the field and awaiting his opponent.

 

Julian shuffled forwardly, his right hand trembling slightly. He couldn't remember the last time he'd had quite so many Butterfrees swarming around his stomach!
He shook his head vigorously, re-focusing on the task at hand. This may have been Julian's first attempt at a Pokémon battle, but he wasn't going to go down easy!
Hoping the insect-like activity buzzing in his lower gut was some kind of a sign, Julian loosed his sole Pokéball, and waited nervously as his Ledyba, Fez emerged, readying himself for the task at hand...

Fez - Ledyba/Male/Swarm

 

Willow drifted around for a second, analysing the scene. He suddenly dived towards the ground below them, into his own shadow. His shadow extended excessively until it was so long it finished somewhere behind Fez. Then, Willow burst up from behind Ledyba and slapped it in the back of the head.

Willow used Shadow Sneak!

 

Julian's face drained a good couple of shades when the billowly shape of a Duskull revealed itself to be his first opponent. He was a novice, but was fully aware of the dangers of Ghost-type pokemon...not to mention the fact that they were more than a little creepy...

While Julain stood, catatonic, transfixed by the Duskull's ethereal billows, the Pokémon suddenly dived for the floor and extended into a lightning quick shadow.

Julian realised his mistake, "Focus!" he told himself, "I NEED to focus!". He cried out a command to Fez, hoping his laspe in concentration would not cost him too dearly...

"Fez, Reflect!"

 

Ledyba and Duskull sent!

Willow's eye shuddered back and forth between his two eye sockets, before resting in between them and flashing. Then, a chaotic jet of red and black energy shot out and flew towards Fez the Ledyba.

Willow used Night Shade!

 

Fez tumbled forward, a clumsy heap of six limbs, as a result of Duskull's pre-emptive strike. Julian flinched slightly, it was the first time he'd seen his Ledyba face calculated aggression and it wasn't particularly pleasant.

Fez leapt up, and without hesitation created a reflective field. He touched it gently with a fist and appeared to smile as it rebounded with a satisfying tension. With a new-found confidence, he rounded on the Duskull.

Julian picked up on Fez's assured demeanour and prepared the next attack. "Might as well hit with all we've got" he muttered, "Fez, use Bug Buzz!"

 

Ledyba uses Bug Buzz! Sp.Def drop!

Duskull uses Night Shade!

Julian looked solemnly down at his injured Ledyba. Fez looked semi-beaten, a pained look in his beady eyes. Julian knew he was not going to win this fight unless he attempted a different strategy - all out offense was not going to beat this wily spirit.

Julian ordered the attack - "Fez, confuse him with Supersonic!". It was only afterwards that Julian paused. Would a ghost be affected by Fez's high pitched wail? Did they even have ears?

Either way - it was their last hope...

Kekeke, it's trying to confuse me, huh? Well, two can play at that game..., Willow thought to himself. He waved his arms in front of his face, and his eye flashed once. Then a psychadelic beam with a mix of every colour imaginable shot out of Willow's eye and swirled towards Fez.
