It's been a long time since I've drawn anything, but I suppose now is as good of a time as any. Particularly with such a good community, and I will apologize in advance if any of these drawings are bad. However, practice makes perfect, or so the saying goes. Furthermore, all members of the URPG are welcome to send comments/suggestions to me via PM!

Yay! More traditional art! Is this in crayon?

    Things I like:

-Fortune telling Spoink. He looks just as confused as I am. My impression of this is that it is some kind of roadshow or carnival act, and Spoink is either the assistant or the actual fortune teller? HOW MUCH DOES HE CHARGE? I need to know the rest of the Pokemon coming in Sun and Moon..

Back to business: I really love when drawings have a theme. Creativeness in your mind, always translates to a more immersive image. Taking Spoink's Psychic abilities and conveying them in a more humanistic and literal way is super cute.

-I also like the colors, especially how you coordinated the tablecloth and banner to match Spoink's little head-bead thingy. The grass looks super rich and the sky is bright and vibrant. I think, though, that maybe a more darkish/sunset coloring might have made this setting have a mysterious and more supernatural mood. But that's just me. ;)

-Putting your signature as Greek letters in the crystal ball threw me for a loop, haha. I literally stared at it for five minutes trying to figure out what it meant. CLEVER TACTIC.

    Things To Try Next Time:

-So it can be pretty difficult to add dimension to drawings when coloring with crayons. The main reason for this, is that you can't layer colors like you can with traditional paint or digital art. The only real way of getting a 3D look with this kind of art is either with color choice, or pressure.

In color choice, you can choose lighter shades like yellows and oranges to convey areas you want to be bright. And in contrast, you can color with darker shades like blues and purples for areas you'd like to be in shadow.

With pressure, simply coloring very softly where light touches and then very firmly where it doesn't will give you a similar effect. Doing either of these mentioned methods would really help your art pop!

-Line art. It got a bit lost beneath the coloring. :( This is especially noticeable in Spoink, as he kind of blends right into the background. If you did something like trace back over your lines with a marker or dark pencil/crayon, it would have boosted him into the foreground. Line-less art doesn't have a great appeal with crayon drawings because the colors are not opaque and do not have solid or clean edges.

    Final Score:

I think for your very first art submission, this is just good enough for the little springy pig. I'll give it a 35/35, and Spoink is captured. Practice definitely does make perfect! The more art you make, the better you'll get. :)

Hi Omega! I'm here see if you catch your whismur! From what I gather, you are a beginner art, but you also do have an intuitive ways of designing interesting drawings even if your skill hasn't quite matched up to it yet, and that's fine! We want you to keep working and improving!

    Pokemon likeness:

Nailed it. I can just imagine that little weird cave thing screaming in my face.

    Technique:

Last time I see that you had a bit of trouble by being slightly too ambitious with your scene and due to the limitations of your medium, the lines got blurry. In this drawing I see that you attempted to correct that and while outlines are great, they also flatten whatever you're drawing. Whismur is a little ball with bulbous ears. Last time EmBreon wanted you to experiment with pressure. I've added a pick below to give you a visual aid about what she meant because sometimes pictures are better than words. I've attached the drawing to you.

If you want practice shading, start by going in to a nearby kitchen, get an orange or two, turn off all the lights and turn on a lamp, and draw them. Practice with different hardness. This rule applies to almost to all dry media: pencil, color pencil, or even crayon. Remember everything in shadow has a cast shadow. That is important and is certainly necessary for the higher ranks. For now, I just want to see if you can shade a sphere.

I love the sound waves it is producing...that is a nice touch that illustrates its unpleasantness.

    Composition and Background:

Whismur is dead center because, well, its screaming. I'd like to know where and why and how you place whismur will tell me lots. Your spoink told us a lot about what it did since you took time to tell us it had a crystal ball, but now I'd like just a little more info.

So in conclusion: You took the idea that sharper edges needed to happen a little too literally. This would certainly fly if Whismur were in the rank below, but come back to me when you've done something just a little bit more! I'm challenging you because I know you can do it! (30/35)
