    Can he?

Wheteher or not, Julio wants a rotom [and possibly a rufflet]. Signature is bottom left hand corner. Julio thinks a psychic type warped the field before the cornered rotom entered the battlefield. Would this count for the october theme. Rotom plain is a ghost.

Julio has a picture of his hand literally covered in graphite. He will upload it if requested.

Also I would like to submit a fakemon concept for money. It is my most popular design, so yea. I have a link to my deviant art page where it is published. Iridion Concept. He is Iridion, a radioactive/dragon pseudo legendary and will feature in the story.

It's middle stage Iridioran. This and its pre-evo are solo Radioactive type. I have DeviantArt pages for each:

I have another drawing. I'd like to catch Litwick. It's a hard capture! When photographing my work, there was a glare on the graphite. Derp. My signature is on the chair cusions JR and Juliorain in cursive on the bottom right hand corner.

This is drawn extremely well. And in pencil! Wow. I love the concept of a warped battlefield; it adds a really unique dimension to the background. This drawing has great dynamic, with both the positioning of these Pokemon and the angling of the background – really nice job.

    Great Things:

Pokemon – Your attention to detail is superb. Especially in Rotom. I love how you captured his translucency as well as made him spherical. His shading is just spot on. Incredible. The detailing in his eyes gives him a great expression, and you’ve shaded consistently with your light source. Braviary is also drawn very well. I love how serious and determined he looks (very fit for battle), and the etching in his feathers gives him a great style.

Background – I really appreciate the thought that went behind this; both with the circular field, and the stadium. You also went as far as to shade the clouds and it really completes your scene. I am extremely impressed by just how circular you made that field appear. Even with a checkered texture and lack of color, it looks exactly like a globe. Really cool.

Shading – Just phenomenal. Consistent, accurate, and three-dimensional. I can tell you are very practiced at your craft and very educated in light sources. I really have no complaints here at all.

    Possible Improvement:

Background – While I realize that lack of detail adds depth, the stadium past the battlefield keeps stealing my attention when it should be diverting it. The dark sketchiness really draws focus and attention away from your characters. Maybe a little lighter of a shade or some circle textures to represent the fans sitting there would have helped?

Color – Black and White is definitely an artistic choice, and can be stylistic as well. However, seeing as how Rotom is in the Demanding category, I am having trouble being satisfied with it here. I feel like this piece would need to be amazingly complex, layered, and detailed for a black and white pencil drawing to succeed alone. While this drawing is certainly exceptional, I think it needs some color to feel complete.

Outcome: Demanding rank is really tough. I love this drawing quite a bit, but I think it needs some color and a little adjustment to the stadium to hit that 75 needed. I definitely value that this was drawn traditionally rather than digitally, so I feel it deserves at least a Complex ranking. I’m going to give this a 65/75 for now. If you add those things, I’d be happy to reevaluate.

Also this fits the Ghost theme for October, so you can claim that $5k.

I’m going to grade all three of these fakemon as one curation, since they are very similar and I won’t be able to talk about enough different things to warrant three separate curations.

    The Good:

Irodan, Iridioran, and Iridion is a very cool-looking evolution line. I love the lightning yellows contrasting the slate greys. It’s neat to see the chunky webbed paws transition into more dragon-like claws, as well as a more pronounced face and jawline. I think it is a very creative design, and I could easily see something similar actually existing in the Pokemon universe. :)

I love the swirling effect of the bright colors, it reminds me of those poisonous frogs. You’ve also given them shading that appears as somewhat of a “wetness” on their skin. Iridion is especially reptilian looking, and I love the chunky detailing.

    The Advice:

Clearly this is a concept design and not a completed image. However, the line sketchiness really adds to this not having a completed look. The line art itself is very rough and jagged, as well as many of the accents – such as the wing vertebrae on Iridion and the faces as well as the appendages on his pre-evolutions.

Something else a little distracting is how dark the shadows are beneath the first two stages. A shadow doesn’t emanate complete blackness, as light can still reach the area; it is simply obstructed. Your final evo has this done much more moderately.

Outcome: I think the lack of backgrounds and the sketchiness keep this from gaining much higher than Simple. ^^; I’m gonna rank the base stage as Easiest ($3k), and the last two as Simple($5k + $5k). So you can claim a total of $13k for these. Nice work and very cool idea.

Thanks @EmBreon! I have updated the Braviary v Rotom Drawing. I'm still going for that little ghost! I've made the protagonists darker, lightened the background, and colored in the main characters.

Wow wow wow. This is legit. My first impression of this image is that it’s kind of got that “haunted mansion feel”- vintage layout and décor, lighting that’s actually alive – this sets a chilling mood instantly. Great work.

    The Bomb:

Dimension, yo – ya nailed it. This is freaking fantastic. Perspective is a tough trick to master. I still have issues drawing those stupid 3-dimensional cubes that you learn in the fourth grade. The fact that you not only created a massive amount of depth within this room by angling the table, chairs, and flooring, but carried it into the paintings as well is outstanding. I love that you managed to distort the images within the image while keeping them looking like wall mounts and not windows. COOL.

Shading – Rockin’. Love the shadows, love that the corners of the room and beneath the table are left realistically in darkness. Love especially that you created illumination around Litwick and Chandelure, they truly look like they’re glowing. Impressive stuff without use of color and completely in pencil.

Accuracy – Everything looks on point. Your pen skills are great. The room’s proportions and the layout of the table look sturdy and realistic. Litwick is cute, and I love the smirk. I think the only inaccuracy here is that Chandelure appears incomplete. He’s missing some components to his design, such as the cone his face sits on and those swirly appendages that protrude from it. Everything else looks good.

    The Boom:

Sketchiness – So this can be a styling choice, and in this drawing there are places where it really works well, and some places where it doesn’t. My main issue is beneath the table, because the chairs’ legs are lost within the floor tiles due to the lack of clean lines. The tops of the chairs as well as the plates, perhaps, blend in a bit more than they should and could use some definition to stand out as a bit more three dimensional. I love the way that the sketchiness has created light and a glowing effect, but I think nearly all of the objects could have used either a tracing or a more intricate shading to stand out from the background. It all blends a bit too much together because of this.

Composition – I’m sure this is a personal choice, but it’s a tad distracting that the perspective is ever so slightly off-center. My brain keeps wanting me to tilt my head to the left to compensate for it. I feel that with a composition like this, it needs to be blatantly center, or dynamically off-center. Otherwise, it kind of just looks like an error or poor construction to me.

    The Bang:

Overall, I love the story of this piece. I like that you created a mood, a rustic atmosphere, and challenged yourself to create something with so much depth.

While there are some quirks I have, I think for a Litwick, and Complex ranking, this is more than enough. The style, detail, and dimension of it are really impressive and you did a great job. I’ll give it a 65, enjoy your candle.

As for this, I'm having a really hard time noticing much difference. Yes, I see the hits of color and circle shapes, but nothing was really done drastically enough to improve your score. Looks really rushed.

Also, I guess I did a bad job explaining what I meant by "circular shapes" to represent faces. It was meant in a way that perhaps adding some more dimensional shading to your stadium, it would make it appear as if there were people actually sitting in those seats, and not just a strip of dark pencil or literal simple circle shapes. It still looks incomplete, if anything, now even more-so.

I also think that those two bits of color take something away from the image, rather than add to it. Especially in Rotom, as now he's lost some of his translucency. Use color as you would graphite. Give it depth and dimension. I'd also love to see this image entirely in color or with more intricate artistic spots of color. Demanding is a really tough rank that holds arguably the strongest pokemon in urpg; I don't feel comfortable passing this yet. Really sorry. :(

    Take your time with it.

Julio, this is fantastic! It looks amazing. Phenomenal pencil work and great highlights and shadows. You cleaned it up; it looks so polished now as well. I've got nothing negative to say - I have no problem giving this a 75 now. Congrats, Rotom is captured!
