    Going for: Klink
    Required: Medium (2 x 50 or higher)

Klink seems to have escaped from his poke ball, wonder how much trouble he can get in to?

The gear Pokemon assemble in Chargestone cave.

As I wasn't sure how to give proof being they're 3D models, I'm posting two images showing the parts in Blender with a piece in edit mode.

    Pokemon Center

    Form

First off, I really love this piece. As I was once a modeler, I can totally appreciate how much work and effort has to go into something like this (not to mention render times, which can be stupid ridiculous). The Pokemon themselves are nice and crisp, and their shape and details look pretty spot-on. I like that the Klink is up close and person since it's easy to focus on it that way. I do think its exact position makes the piece just slightly imbalanced, however, since the left side seems a little “heavier” if you split the picture down the center. I think moving the Klink over to the right a little so that the place where the gear joined was on the right half of the picture would even it out a little more.

Other than that, the only other thing I have to comment on the physical mon itself is the texture. I'm not sure which one you used, but the surface looks a little grainy, like it's made out of some sort of stone instead of smooth steel like its type dictates. I think a smoother texture like the one on the bookshelf or even the counter would've been better-suited to the Pokemon's natural form.

    Technique

I think overall this piece is very nice. All the models look the appropriate shape, even the curves, which can be a pain to do. I like the lighting on objects, except for the Pokemon itself. I think that one could've been a little brighter so it stood out a little more. It sort of looks like one of the Center's lights are broken above, but we can see the reflection of many of them on the Pokeballs, so that can't be the case.

As it is right now, my eye is kinda drawn straight to the Pokeballs because they're really shiny. Steel is supposed to be shiny too, and with a little more light (and a different texture), you could've really made Klink stand out. It would've also emphasized the shadow below it, as right now its very light and hard to see.

    Background

For the most part, the background looks great. The colorful scene contrasts nicely with the monotone mon, even though I wish it was a little brighter. You've emulated the setting in a Center very well, even going so far to include the screen behind the counter. Everything looks realistic in the style it's in, and I love the reflections and shadows you added. I do think that the reflection on the bookshelf is a little too vivid, however. The one on the counter by the + sign looks a lot more natural, but the one for the poster doesn't. It could've been toned down a bit, since I don't know if any polishers I own could ever get a surface that shiny XD

Other than that it looks good. I like all of the detail you put into it, since that makes it seem much more real and it absorbs viewers. I would totally play a game that looked like this.

    Score

As far as a signature or anything goes, I think showing your WIP screens is fine. If you wanted to include your name or something in there though, maybe you could stamp it or engrave it like some companies do with their logo? Then it would be a bit conspicuous but it would also blend in at the same time so it wasn't too out there. For example, in this one it could've been stamped on the healing machine or maybe even displayed on the digital screen, since a lot of companies advertise like that. Just an idea if you wanted to get your name in there.

Anyway, I was very pleased with this image. I'm going to score it 60/100 which means this one passes the requirements for medium rank.

    Cave

    Form

Another cool piece. Again, I can't really say much against the shape of either the Klink or the Klinklang. Was there a reason you didn't include Klang too? It is kinda odd to see just one of the evolved mons and a ton of the first evolutions. Although I realize copy and pasting models saves you a lot of time, it sorta would've been nice to see the middle stage as well.

Again, however, you have that bumpy texture on a mon that's supposed to be smooth. I think the light from the crystals could've really shone on those smooth surfaces if you had done them, and that would've looked really neat. A smoother texture would've also contrasted nicely with the rough stone cave as well. Overall I like it, though.

    Technique

Light is very tricky in this piece because you have a naturally murky area with a few different light sources. I think the crystals were just a tad too bright compared to the highlights you have on your other objects. I do like the effect you have on the water right below the main Klink, though. I can immediately tell that that patch is water. I'm a little wondering on some other places, however. There are a couple blurry spots on the walls, as well as a patch between the Klinklang and the bottom-most Klink. Are those places water as well? It's hard to tell.

In addition to that, I think the crystal in the left-most bottom corner could also be shedding a little more light on the water, even if it's not right next to it. There would still be some illumination from that place, and the water looks a bit dark around it. Some of your Pokemon could've used some additional highlights as well, such as the mid-height Klink on the right side. There is a crystal in front of it and above it, and even if the front one is a decent distance away, I think there would still be a little illumination on the mon's face. Light sources in a modeling program can be touchy, so maybe a lot of this is due to the positioning of the mons instead. Still, it may be worth tinkering around with the intensity a little.

    Background

Rocks are always so hard for me to draw/create with vectors, so I really like the texture you have here. Some of it could've been shadowed in more places I think, though, to give it a touch more depth in the areas where a light source isn't that close.

The picture does feel like it's missing something, though, and I think this comes from a little imbalance in the piece. Because the main Klink in the upper left corner is so large, it makes the piece sort of lean that way even with the other Pokemon in the piece. A mon closer to the camera in the right corner could've helped with this, like maybe the Klinklang.

Making some of the mons bigger would also fill up the piece a little, since it sort of seems a bit empty with all the remaining mons but one small. Perhaps you could've put only part of the mon visible in the corner if you didn't want to show the whole thing, or even on the sides. I do like that we at least see the other sides of the Klink, which really adds that three-dimensional feel to it.

    Score

It's not a bad piece. I really like it. Due to some of the empty space and such, I'm giving this one a 50/100 which still means you pass! With both pieces, you have earned a Klink.
