My second doodle and my first picture for cash!

    Pokemon: Diglett & Weedle
    Rank: Simple (I guess..)

I drew it with markers and pencils and fixed it a bit in Photoshop!

(My printer didn't scan my signature ._. I'm sorry).

EDIT: I added a signature ("Shen" in the bottom-left corner)

First Look: D’aww, I love this! I did not realize how similar Weedle and Diglett’s faces were until I saw this, haha. You've got some great little details here, such as the tiny pebbles in the dirt beneath Diglett, the bit of definition in the grass, and I especially like that every firework is a different pattern.

Really happy to see some nicely drawn traditional art around here, as the majority of people use digital. Which, is understandable when you consider the hassle of drawing and coloring with a good ‘ole fashioned pencil and paper - and then having to scan and upload on top of it. So, big kudos to you for going through that process. It looks really nice!

    Things That Were Good:

-Shading: This is so much more difficult in traditional drawings like this because you are limited almost entirely to simple pen pressure, as opposed to a wide array of colors and brushes when done digitally. So keeping that in mind, this has truly been done well. The faces of both Diglett and Weedle are noticeably lighter than their bodies, and the shade darkens as it gets further from your light source. They also each have their own shadow that continues that light consistency.

-Light Source: This kind of coincides with shading, but you did an excellent job portraying that light was emanating from those fireworks, and carried it throughout the entire drawing. It was very clever to leave circles around the fireworks uncolored, to give that bright/exploding effect. And I also like that the fireworks themselves were drawn with marker instead of pencil, because it really makes them “pop”.

    Things That Could Have Improved:

-Pencil Strokes: These are pretty visible in the sky especially, and the reason you want to blend your strokes as much as possible is because it can be distracting from your image. You want people to focus on the cute Pokemon you’ve drawn and the bright fireworks, and not be distracted by dark scratches. Things that will help you to blend your strokes are 1)to color with the side of the pencil and not the tip, and 2)to color in diagonals or curves instead of straight lines.

-Lines: This is something that really just comes with practice. I notice that the line art of both the Pokemon and the grass on the horizon is a bit wobbly. Really study your references to get a good feel of how the Pokemon are composed, and when you get to drawing, start sketching very very lightly at first. Once you are happy with how your image is composed, trace back over those sketches with darker lines – this will help smooth it out a bit. It is very easy to darken a light sketch, but it is much more difficult to undo or lighten a dark one.

Overall: This drawing comes together nicely, and it is pretty visible that a good amount of effort went into it. You put lots of thought into the scene and gave it a story, which I love! I think this a great attempt at Simple, and I am going to score it an exact 35, which translates to $5k.

Enjoy your cash, and I’m so sorry for the delay!
